It is just the initial shock of having to pay for what was once free, just like the shock when gas jumped up signficantly. Now everyone pays $3.00+ not even blinking an eye but when it first went up big time everyone freaked out and didn't know how they would live paying that much. People adjusted, just like people will adjust to this.

We have the chance to SEND A MESSAGE to MLG whether or not we are willing to spend an exorbitant amount of $ for 100% SC2 action. How is it exorbitant for what you can potentially get out of it? A pack of 20 cigarettes in the UK costs about half of the entire weekend ticket, get your head out of your ass and admit you're just tight. User was temp banned for this post.

If they want to charge for future arenas at least they have given fair notice if they do that.I'll give it a shot, but not overly impressed that my Gold MLG membership doesn't seem to get me a discount or anything.

I still think I'm more intelligent despite my smoking habit than people who want a healthy E-sports scenes, with Koreans at every tournament but point blank refuse to pay anything. I'm shelling out because mainstream entertainment is actually so godawful that if my Starcraft watching suffers I may just kill myself, let's hope it doesn't regardless of what side of this issue you are on.

Considering that MLG owns all the content from all their tournaments, its a fair deal. Compare this to my other viewing vice, the UFC. Each PPV for them is $60 and I don't get a weekend's worth of viewing. At the end of the day, all truly professional sports have gate fees (or something equivalent). I bet people don't bat an eyelash at going to the movies, buyin a couple of albums on iTunes, beer, etc. But whoa, ask me to pay to watch content that doesn't belong to me nor the internet... guess I'll just scream and holler and stomp around like a 4 year old. Even though UFC PPV's do cost a ton, they're pirated via streams pretty easily. It's not too hard for a person to look and get a non-HD but still viewable quality stream by the time the PPV starts. Also, some scene groups just do a stream HD PPV rip of the thing and post it up hours later after the event. Here the advantage e-sports has is that it's not necessarily as easy to pirate something like a GSL/GSTL or possible this upcoming MLG Arena event due to having a much smaller fanbase, let alone people willing to risk themselves in the action of pirating such things.

I'm just dumbfounded that MLG insists on offering such a high level of production even when it's clear that they can't support it and that most of the gamer crowd (high school, college age guys) has less disposable income than guys who are paying for boxing. It seems that they can't justify "versioning" their product anymore (like they did with free, silver, gold) because most people are satisfied with the free stream or at most a reasonably-priced HQ stream. The amount of people who fit the "HD 5-stream with real-time 3D chat technology" persona is obviously NOT significant so why don't they just get rid of it instead of forcing everyone to pay up for it? Edit: I don't have a problem with MLG having a PPV event. If people think it's worthwhile, then they should buy it. However, I think that anyone throwing around guilt is retarded. nobody is hurting esports by not paying for something (unless they're stealing it).

I paid $115 for the year of GSL content, that comes out to less than $10 a month. Now I'm supposed to magically be ok with paying twice the MONTHLY cost of GSL for 2 days of content... Like I've already said, people are free to decide where their money goes but to act like you are towards people who actually care about what they spend money on just isn't acceptable.

If you don't want to pay the fee, don't pay, otherwise I don't get the point in revolting, showing them who's boss, or protesting. They are not passing SOPA or anything, just don't pay and move on. I won't be paying as it's too expensive, but will I demand they change there ways? No, they will change it themselves if shit goes bad. Quite whining and trying to make a stupid point kiddies. Good point, except all the whining and complaining are going to work and they are going to announce a change of price. Either that, or they are going to prove they have some mis-management going on over there and maybe there are other reasons why they can't make a profit. ERTS (Electronic Arts) has lost money for the last 3 years, while ATVI has made an increasing profit those years. They are direct competitors and one is highly profitable and other isn't..... sometimes its not the industry.... sometimes its the performance of the management and the salespeople that make or break a company. Besides, its a two way street. If MLG wants credit and praise when they do something great for the SC2 community, they get it.... why should they be exempt from criticism when they do something the community doesn't like. If you DONT like what people wrote... don't read it Kido! :D

You use the word exorbitant when it clearly isn't thus. It compares pretty favourably with other PPV events, and very favorably with tickets to the cinema or whatever. The GSL comparison is pretty fair though, personally I prefer the MLG overall just due to the more crammed format, but the likes of Leenock v Jjakji were worth my GSL subscription for sure. The post a few up was a pretty good one, actually I tend to just watch the streams in SD as I think it's perfectly reasonable and too much importance is being placed on production quality which will increase the overhead costs.

I feel that it's an unethical business practice to announce one all-encompassing payment plan then charge additional fees on top of that at the last minute. What they should have done is announced that there will be additional fees for the Arena(s) when they announced the Arena(s). Instead, they waited a month, in which time many people signed up for Gold membership thinking they would have full access to the Arena(s) only to find out they have zero access.
