Not sure if this poll was already created but have not seen it thus far. Edit: Dear god i butchered the " would not pay no matter the cost" Damn! Funny thing-- the results of this poll contradict the poll results on the first page. First page poll, 15% say they will pay 20$. This poll, 8% say they will pay up to 20$ (i.e. 92% say they will pay up to an amount less than 20$)

This whole purchase it or you're not supporting "E-sports" argument is just silly. You need to enjoy it for what it is, and that is simply a game. Most these people just enjoy playing the game. Why the hell is it their responsibility to purchase stuff to support E-Sports? Whether or not MLG, IPL, NASL, GSL, etc exist, this game will. Is it enjoyable watching tournaments, top players, etc? Of course. Would I be depressed if MLG and these places quit showing Starcraft 2? Not really.
Here you are calling people cheap for not wanting to shell out money to watch a game. Hypothetically speaking, lets say you're hanging out with a buddy and it's a Saturday night. He's a huge UFC fan(and for the sake of argument, you're not). You flip on the TV and on PPV there's a UFC fight. He says "Oh yarkO, you gotta order this! GSP vs BJ Penn is on tonight!" He stalls calling you a cheap ass cause you don't want to spend $50 on a UFC fight. An average person's reaction would be, "Fuck you buddy, buy it yourself, I don't care enough to pay $50 to watch fights."

You're saying the reason people can't afford it is because they are eating at convenience stores. How did you come up with such a clever and well reasoned argument?
Maybe you should think occasionally before making broad sweeping generalizations.
Also, there is no need for abuse, if you can't keep it civil, maybe don't say anything?

Whatever you think about esports business models etc, this is still a HUGE slap in the face to Gold Members (again, hilarious name) to not even offer them a discount on this. Sundance saying that they get the 4 majors is zero consolation, Gold Members (lol) are supposed to get the best treatment of everyone.

i am greatly displeased by this. i hope this all falls apart and mlg goes back to being free again.

People pay for satellite TV and stuff all the time because there't things on PPV that they want to watch. If you love starcraft and esports enough then PPV should not be a big issue, unless you are incredibly financially challenged. Esports is still a small and niche business, that needs money to grow and attract more fans, therefore those fans who are here now, if we want to see esports flourish as a more mainstream activity, then we need to put the effort in and pay the money for what we love and enjoy, simply tuning in and increasing the view count may not be enough. If you really love esports as a whole and not just your own personal viewing experience, ppv should be a small issue when deciding what tournaments to watch!

I'd rather pay for GSL than MLG, but if the first MLG turns out to be great I might spend for it too.
I wonder what the viewing numbers will be like

This whole tournament would make much more sense if their was a live audience.

This is great. If people are willing to pay for the GSL, why can't they pay for this? Same shit, different players, amirite?

It's astonishing to me that you think it's fine to call people selfish cunts who don't want to spend $20 on a product. Some people just don't have a spare $20, have some empathy for others instead of being so judgmental.
No $20? THEN DON'T WATCH.
Fuck, I don't go stand outside the movie theater with empty pockets, proclaiming my right to see a movie. If you can't afford it then boo hoo get a better job, prioritize your money. Stop thinking that you deserve to have things that cost money; for free.

If the content match the price it can work. I'm doubtful though.

I think it has to do with the fact that there is no free LQ stream and the Gold Members getting shafted. plus...different players is a big factor...not the "same shit" at all.

I like your generalization that people aren't paying because they feel entitled to free things.
When I havent seen anyone so far in the past sixty pages actually make that argument.

I'm just a little skeptical. I have paid MLG several times in the past and they definitely made it worth it in 2011. I was super impressed with their attitude towards the fact that they serve a community as well as the fact that they are selling a product. That said, $20 for 20 hours feels high for me as an individual. Some of the new commentators they've introduced haven't been as spectacular as I'd expect from MLG. This isn't me simply being scared of change either. There have been at least two that I enjoyed, but others have simply been less than optimal. I say this only in regards to MLG. There's no denying that they handle more money than most of their competition, and it's not by accident.
The short version of that is: let amateur casters do smaller tournaments to gain experience. And I don't say "amateur" degradingly. Their skill and knowledge when compared to high profile casters is obviously lower. Compared to mine? Obviously higher. I'm only being picky because MLG is now not offering a free version at all (albeit just a fraction of the whole tournament).
Through some of the the qualifiers, the production value has slipped as well. I can think of at least 3 different cases where obvious things were off. Specifically, caster volume was different. I have to turn my system up twice as much to hear one caster/the game, and the other caster is then insanely loud. Things like health bars or overlays. And then, as I mentioned, caster quality. These are not deal breakers for me. These are only things I would be uncomfortable paying that amount of money for.
My feelings were mostly negative until I read that MLG would be showing their product for free before asking folks to pay for it. That helps the fact that you eventually will not offer it at all for free, but it does not justify it for me.Thank you, MLG, for offering what I feel to be the best in Starcraft 2 tournaments out there. I really do love MLG as an organization. I switched gum, deoderant, razor...because I had options to support the companies who support MLG. I say that only to assure that I am as concerned about the promotion of this stifled industry as I am about a good purchase for myself.

Right, but the 15% is double 8%, and at these numbers it's large enough to be unlikely to be attributable to statistical error.

right. will you pay for this (20$) or what is the most you will pay, 20$ being one of the options. I guess we could postulate that half of the people didn't read the OP and realize it was 20$ when they voted in the first poll, accounting for the difference in results, but I guess I was pointing to the fact that it's interesting that 15% of people will say they will pay 20$ when it is a simple yes/no option, whereas that number is significantly LOWER when people see other less expensive options as possibilities.
