Criticism is allowed. Undue flaming is not. Take a second to think your post through before you submit.

Bans will be handed out.

Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either.

I doubt my parents would pay $20, especially due to currency exchange rates, just so I can watch a 'game' according to them. So Assembly for me too.

Perhaps if I lived in the US i would have been concidering paying 10$ for this (not 20). But since I'm living in Sweden and need to sleep a bit during night hours I decide not to at any cost. So far the free LQ streams has satisfied my needs on the protour events but since it's not available now I'll guess I'll watch something else instead.

This argument can be said about anything. Paying $50 wouldn't kill me either but it still not worth it.

As a comparison i can stream five HD quality movies for those $20, that's about 8-10 hours of higher quality entertainment. I can also buy a months subscription to live streams for all Premier League matches, Champions league, NHL, and the top movie channels. All higher quality than this 3 day MLG qualifier.

3 days of inferior SC2 (compared to GSL) or a months worth of all top sports, top movies, and all the latest TV series/shows. Really shows how off they are in their pricing.

Having a full PPV event is a bad idea and it is not helping esport. But 20$ is worst than anything...

If i want to watch football I turn my TV on and it is free. If I want to watch some underground sport I have to get a subscription which is not even 20$/month...

<3 Assembly.

FREE* You pay in time through commercials. Maybe in 20 years if and when E-Sports attracts enough sponsorship to get on TV, then you can do the same. Until then, though.....

but I didnt pay for nasl pass so IM definitely not going to pay for one weekend 20$ thats too much for a college student, Im a regular gsl ticket buyer although I cant watch all the matches anymore since university started and I gladly bought silver/gold membership last year, but 20$ for one weekend just seems too much. Though their reasoning with "one trip to the movie theater" sounds about right, I still dont like how they didnt announce it with the announcement of the arena itself.

Do you really spend less than $20 dollars per weekend on entertainment as a college student? I've been at college and poor, but I can say I spent at least that much entertaining myself every weekend.

well actually I have a decent amount of spare cash but tbh. I dont want to use if it if not necessary. So apart from rent let's say I have 50$ a week income for food+anything else. I wouldnt mind paying 20$ but humas tend to compare I guess, and I didnt even pay 20$ for my whole gsl season ticket.

Most importantly: I dont support PPV.

This. It's not that $20 is some life changing amount of money, it's that what they are offering is not worth it compared to other offerings out there, both SC2 related and not. ESPECIALLY when the event has no crowd, not having that hype makes the value even less.

Plus God knows who is casting it.

I could easily afford to pay for this, but I'm choosing not to because I think it's a really bad payment model, and I don't want to support it. They're being pretty sneaky about how they're getting people to pay for it too. playing the "loyal fans" and "growing esports" cards. I love competitive SC2, but I don't love being ripped off. No sane business would try to charge people about £15 to watch 2 days worth of games. The MLG gold members should be able to see it free too. There's so much wrong with it.

Most people don't realize how much money MLG is saving on this though.

I would say that rather than hoping to earn a shitload, they are trying to save a shitload of money by not having to get the bandwith necessary otherwise.

I'm just a young viewer and I doubt my parents would let me pay $20 for MLG. I do believe that PPV is not that bad of a system but there are a significant (I'm really not sure how many under 16s watch SC2 or people who do not have a job/part-time) amount of viewers that cannot pay for this. I personally would be watching Assembly as it is more accessible for my demographic but I do not condemn MLG for their decision or anything.

I understand MLG and I don't feel like I'm entitled to get everything for free but it is still my choice if I WANT to pay for it and the answer is simply: no.
I'm not angry at MLG or anything, just sad I won't be able to watch it. I'm just not in the economic situation to pay just for watching SC2 events and I don't think this will change soon so I just won't watch anything that I have to pay for (except GSL which has Tastosis and the best players out there).

For MLG I hope that it will be success because they earned it, I've always been a big fan of MLG events. For selfish reasons I hope it won't be too big of a success because if one day all the major MLG, Dreamhack, IEM etc events will be PPVs I just won't watch any of them because I can't afford it/don't want to spend so much money just to watch SC. Might be the future of eSports though

Have u seen the prizemoney? 20 bucks per viewer for this prize money? rofl. even the players themselves seem to get treated like slaves by MLG.

This is seeding for the main events which has 76,000$ in prizepool...also flying players around the world and paying for there hotels is slave treatment? What world do you live in?

So were paying 20 dollar to watch a qualifier for the main event? rofl.
Tell me with how much income the average player leaves this event? Not much? who cares about travelling and hotel, when you earn less than the min. income.

The event gives you a better chance at winning 26k for the main event. The players will gladly grab any advantage they can get.

Please stop talking about the main event. We are paying 20 dollars (if we wanna watch it) for this arena. dont come with prizemoney from other tourneys.

MLG says they wanna make profit. and they charge us 20 dollars for this event. If i pay 20 dollars i want a huge chunk of it to go to the main characters which are the players (NO, not the casters, ffs..).
And watching the prize money, its just ridiculous, ans they surely wont get my 20 dollars if they want profit for themselves, but dont give ANY of it to the players.

So true. 20$ is not rightly priced. We can get the same quality watching Assembly.

This is just like those LoL skins that cost 5$ or more while you can play the game with the same experience. I would buy 20 skins for 1$, but I am never fucking ever buying 1 skin for 10$.
If LoL priced all their skins for 1$ I might have bought 20-50 already. But because they price it at 5,10,15$ for a skin I will never buy one.

I feel like MLG is doing the same. Ask for 5$ and maybe 10 people will buy it. Ask for 20$ and they can be lucky if 1 of those 10 does it.

And I am still mad about my gold membership being worth nothing.
I had a good night of sleep.

I bought yesterday 2 tickets to see S.L. Benfica my football team play in champions league against the russians Zenit and against our biggest rival F.C. Porto. I bought the cheapest tickest and i spend +/- 37€ for 4x 45minutes of game time.

So yeah maybe $20 is not that much but people shouldn't forget, we the fans, allready have GSL+GSTL tickets, NASL or even MLG gold. It's not just about $20 but about the ammount of money people are willing to spend on SC2. I would like to travel to a MLG or SK to see GSL but thats way more that i'm willing to spend on SC2, thankfully not everybody feels like I do.

I've spent more money on SC2 then I do with music or movies since i download everything :D. My point is the community can and will support events and players but you can't ask us to buy everything or to not make choices.

If I have bought GSL+GSTL, plus i'm from europe why would i spend 15€ when i can just watch assembly that is in my timezone and also has great players.

There is to much content this days, for instance if i miss a GSL game I probably won't see it unless there is something amazing or a scandal that eventually I will hear about it and i go watch it. There is to much stuff to see and not enought time.

I think it's a bad move by MLG. I would pay $10 or $5 but i won't pay $20 because it's to much

Best post of the thread to be honest.

SC2 no gaurentee success and GSL offer lower price more content better player. This is reason not buy.
They want esports wider but they narrow viewers by forcing pay and hoping ppv get more popular.

I am a bit disappointed in MLG for this system. Especially the price-tag. While it's not terribly hefty if you can use it for all its worth (20 hours of quality SC2), it most certainly is too much if you can't watch it in its entirety. Being from Europe, the best bits are often at ungodly hours and while paying for it is a good incentive to stay up, sometimes it's just impossible. I'll think about it once more information is revealed and maybe try and catch the free bits to see if it's any good, but otherwise, Assembly will definitely be streaming in my computer. MLG, maybe.

Boy, if you think MLG will have a hard time getting SC2 viewers to go for PPV, how do you think that would go over in LoL?
