Stephano obviously needed these 1.5-2 hours of sleep for his well being. God knows what would happen to his health otherwise.
And how can some people say that he should respect the hosts of the two tournaments that he chose to participate in despite them being held on the same day. If only there was a way for a player to restrain himself and enter just one tournament a day.
My dick has shrunk to the point where it looks like I have 3 balls.

Why the hell did he sign up for the tournament than if he knew it might run that late?

Maybe not THAT late, most of the time, late mean 1am....

Wow what a crap excuse. What about the tournament workers and casters who stayed up all night long to put on the tournament? What about the other players? Kas was up even later than Stephano btw

ahahahh nice logic.

You had a decent point up until the " whiny little kids " part. Which honestly makes no sense whatsoever.

This is a non-issue. Topic should've died after the first page.

The hell? If MVP's CTS started acting up and he forfeited would you complain? Really? I guess he should know better than to enter tournaments when he knows he has CTS.

You honestly can't differentiate between an illness and being tired?

Wow.

????????? They both have problems physically that make them unable to play and that could have been forseen. If a person feels that they're unfit to play then they don't have to play.

One of the by effects of players becoming products and not just players is that they aren't allowed to forfeit anymore. The more money that goes into esports, the less tolerable this behavior is going to become.

I can run 30 km. Why can't you? That's basically the logic you're using here. If stephano felt he was unfit he was unfit. I honestly have no idea what's so hard to understand from stephano's perspective. You think he purposely wanted to abuse his power and get easy money without playing the finals BY GIVING UP A CHANCE AT 700 MORE DOLLARS FOR ONE SERIES?

What kind of dumb comparison is that? I didn't sign up to run 30 km, Stephano did.

I think he made an agreement, broke it, and deserves to get punished for it.

There are so many tournaments out there, organizers do their best to try and not overlap, but its going to happen. Players know their schedules, they are responsible for ensuring they sign up to the events they can play.

The players are receiving money for taking part/winning these events, not being forced to do so.

The fans and the tournament lose out when a player over-commits and then forfeits their games.

I just hope that players will start taking more care about getting into situations like this, we dont want to scare sponsors or investors of e-sport away, because they can't be 100% sure they are going to get all the games/players they paid for.

Anyway I think the tournament did the right thing, penalised the player who forfeited and then still put on the final and 3rd place games on for the fans (even if they were really a 2nd/3rd playoff, then a final).

Yeah, it sort of is, when he signed up for the tournament knowing it would run that late and that he had another tournament that day...

So....what about Tyler forfeitting? Why is that not mentioned?

I agree what Stephano did is lame, and pushing him back to 4th place seems reasonable. Stephano seems to have accepted this punishment, so where's the drama?

Why do you care about Tyler? He didn't get anything from the tournament, there was no action required, he placed last in a group and that was it. Liquid should discuss it internally and Tyler fans are probably disappointed in him, because forfeiting is not ok without a good reason. But it's not the same as forfeiting a final, leaving the organizers with 20000 people waiting for a game that won't be and ruining the event for them.

I don't get why this is such a big deal. If he's tired, he's tired. Are you going to force him to play? Would you rather have him 6 pool 4 times and then go to sleep or just forfeit and sleep?

The world doesn't revolve around one person. Selfish decision by Stephano. How late it was/how tired he was is irrelevant. He let down everyone watching this tournament, everyone who put on the tournament, everyone. I'm positive people have played through and triumphed in worse conditions than his, he needs to show a stronger character. This.. was weak.

I think it's mainly Stephanos fault as he knew about the hours when he accepted the invite and I'm fine with how ONOG handled the thing, but they should do several things in order to prevent something like this in the future.

As ONOG is promoting barcraft and finances the price pool with those barcraft events the schedule is kind of fixed. No one wants to go to a barcraft event early in the morning. This leaves us with a bad schedule for all EU players, so one possibility would be to only invite NA players. I don't think that this is a very good solution as the majority of the top foreigner currently come from the EU, therefore the quality of the lineup would suffer a big blow.
Another option is to play the game beforehand and cast with replays. Yes live casting is more exciting for most viewers, but it has it's downsides as we saw yesterday.
If they decide against replay casts, ONOG should atleast force the players that want to compete in their cup to not play another tournament on the same day. If you want to be taken serious as a tournament, you first of all have to make sure that the players take you serious and act professional.

MVP's CTS does act up and he still doesn't forfeit.

If it was bad enough he would. Have you ever tried to do anything that requires full concentration when you're sleep deprived and exhausted? Why the hell are you gonna force someone into that?

I think this needs to be addressed by tournament organizers in the future. Major tournaments should make it clear that forfeit matches will incur predetermined penalties. Then everyone is completely aware of the pros and cons.

Penalties for forfeiting ? Sound silly to me.

If a player forfeit because he is too tired he deserve to be punish ?
And if a player forfeit because of his carpal tunnel syndrome and it's too painful to play ? does he deserve a penalties too ?

So who gonna decide which reason deserve a penalties and which doesn't ?

Being tired isn't a good reason enough ?
Stephano should have 6 pool or drone rush 4 games in a raw ? (and i was holding with naniwa when is drama occured)

Any player should be able to forfeit any match : a player who forfeit is already punish since he give up the opportunities to going further in the tournament.

And since Team Liquid seems to like drama these (what's the point of this community news if it is'nt for feeding the drama ?) let's add some more.

Why ONOG is upset about a forfeit ? Because the poor fan could miss a game or because less stephano means less viewers, and time of casting then less money from the ads ?

But since I'm french, I'm obviously Stephano biased and I'll cowardly retreat because it's the only thing we do well -_-.

(Sorry for my bad english)

Irrelevant. If you're in the GSL any other tournament is probably lesser in Korea, and that said other tournament would be the one MVP would most likely forfeit.

Doesn't matter, the point is that the tournament builds up to the final and people damn well want to see it after seeing players work to get there. It's a slap in the face to the organizers and the fans to play to the final and then just give up. People who are saying he should get second place regardless are even dumber, should the tournament just end without a finals?

No one can force you to play a game (though, if you're a professional, you shouldn't need to be forced), but you should obviously not expect to get any prize money when you shit all over the event.

It does matter, your premise itself was a contradiction. Thus your conclusion is invalid. Yes the tournament should end without a finals. That's how it works when you forfeit the match.

Lol, where do you find that contradiction? Your reply to my post was barely relevant since you mention some lesser tournament which had nothing to do with what I was talking about. Point is that pretty much no one would accept a BS forfeit in a GSL final, yet people are really quick to think it's cool in this case just because it wasn't a huge tournament.

I would agree with this if it were the first negative news about stephano but it isnt. Don't we all remember the double contract incident? Stephano is still just an immature kid and not planning/owning up to commitments is what kids do.

I have nothing against him but he has to realize that as a professional it is on him to manage his career. If he keeps doing stuff like this he wont become nearly as huge as he deserves to be.

So if you sign up for a marathon you should finish it no matter what and if you get tired people have the right to bitch at you. Okay. ROFL. And he did get punished. He lost 600 dollars. The fuck?

Players forfeit all the time. Why do certain incidents seem to be highlighted more than others? It's not like Stephano and Naniwa are the only two players to ever forfeit matches. This most recent incident is just another opportunity for the Sc2 community to engage in what they're best at: whining.
