cool stuff!
happy to see this happen

So this means GOM is no longer offering the SD stream themselves?
That sucks, twitch.tv doesn't work in China.

Gom is still broadcasting SD. This is just awesome for anyone that doesn't live in Asia. Even with p2p gomplayer it sometimes randomly disconnects or lags when it loses connectivity for a short time.
Also, twitch tv's resolution is slightly higher than gom's broadcast.

The SD stream is still available via GOM player. I think that GOMTV should restream via justin.tv all the time, because I may not always have GOM Player if I'm not at home and want to watch GSL. Can't download GOM Player in school for example.
I like. Just compared the qualities, and twitch.tv's is slightly better than with GOM player.
That's very cool, the quality is watchable as well(the gom client is always terrible for me).. Let's hope it gives them more viewers too :-).
Sweet!!! Now I can finally watch while I'm in school <3 <3
If you choose 360+, it's SO much better. Goodbye Gomplayer.
sick quality, they will probably reduce it.
Wow, this is cool. Gom player works most the times perfect for me but sometimes I have disconnects all the time (while inet works well). I´ll try switch today, the quality seems really a bit better.
And it´s nice to see some viewer numbers, I´m always curious how many tuned in a stream.
Awesome! I'm really glad that twitch gets to do this, as I think this will reach a lot of people that were either put off by the bad quality of the free stream or didn't want to download the gomplayer and log in.
This is great, because I am unable to put the GOMPlayer on this computer, as it is not mine.
Thumbs up from me ^^

This is sooooo goood. GOM Player was having regular spikes due to my poor bandwidth to Korea.. Thanks GOMTV & Justin!
Great now I can finally watch the stream on my phone.
This is sweet. I was trying to get my korean proxy to work so I wouldn't have to watch SQ, then someone linked me this ^_^.

Volume is a bit low but everything else is just great.

Wow twitch>gomplayer for sure in terms of free quality.
go watch now, the quality is not the best, but the love of god, DO NOT MISS THIS! =D
This looks the same as gom player, but thanks I guess
i want to hope they will leave this quality but the reasoning tell me this won't happen, too good to be true.
so they only need to change the format so that twitch.tv does everything and maybe we will have good system aka a possibility to watch gsl in linux without that crappy proprietary gom player
This is great, I'm using the service now. Better quality and less spiking/lag. Thank you!

Have my babies Mr Gunrun!

No way, I watch GomTv low qualitiy since over a year and this is defenitly better on 360p+.
You can even see the the supply count.

Awesome news, Awesome!!
SQ on gom seems worst than the SQ im watching on Twitch, its awesome! I pay for every GSL Code A/S but sometimes i don't pay for the other side tournaments and just don't watch because SQ stream is laggy and sometimes doesn't work.
This means ill be able to watch it all :D and for alot of other people aswell. AND we get to see viewing figure numbers :D
really nice, gomplayer constantly gives me grief!!

pretty gud quality stream, thank you!

is LQ looking partiqularly awful tonight? I've used HQ forever but I'm not prepared to spend $100 right now. I dont understand why premium subscription 'isn't availiable yet'

I hope this won't be only for the Blizzard Cup.

About time, so happy for this, started up GomPlayer on Mac because my VLC workaround wasn't working, and was thinking how much it sucked having to watch a choppy stream because I'm on Mac when I noticed that Gom had a Twitch stream up! SO much better, SO much easier than trying to get Gom to work well for Mac. Wish they had done this sooner, but still happy <3
So sick. Twitch TV's service is slick and seemless whereas the GOM player is kind of shitty. Plus putting it on twitch means it will be super EZ to port it to every device known to man.
I'd support this for all tournies... really enjoying having a twitch stream :D Higher quality than the free stream :D
I think the quality of the twitch stream is better than the free gom player one.. it's awesome!

Thats cause theyre using the HQ feed, then restream it on Twitch as 360p reso.
Thanks Twitch, great news!
BUT I don't like that the quality is almost as good as the premium stream with the GOM player. It's almost a waste of money. I wish they would higher the quality of the premium stream instead.

i agree. not that im complaining, but it does seem like the twitch tv quality might be a bit too high. it's nice, but with this, why would you buy the GOM premium.
GOM HQ is still higher quality and you get VODs with the ticket
On December 12 2011 18:11 Glimred wrote: So this means GOM is no longer offering the SD stream themselves?
That sucks, twitch.tv doesn't work in China. You have to go through a proxy to contact twitch.tv and get the video feed but the stream itself can go directly to your computer uncensored. You can use Foxyproxy and set a filter for twitch.tv only to achieve this.
In this topic: People complaining about the stream quality being too good...
Lets just assume they know what they are doing. If they notice a big decline in subscriptions they'll take action. And until then just enjoy the quality. For me it's the first time I'm actually able to see more than just a mash and I love it.
I hope they do this for all the Gom events this is really good.
YEAH!!!! Finally 1 less click to watch the greatest sc2 tournament EVER!!!! XD
I feel like I wasted money buying the HQ pass if they are going to host a stream with this quality for free.
360+ on Twitch is identical to HQ. Please tone the quality down.

this is definitely good news for those guys who don't want to use the gom player.

The MAJORITY of GSL's subscriptions come from people who aren't able to watch it live(school/work/sleeping) and because of that want access to VOD's. The fact that you are complaining that now the free stream is at a quality that you can actually read the supply count throughout the game is quite astounding. Which is just mostly due to twitch's video encoding being better than GOM's.
Quality is great! I can actually read the supply numbers(sort of). I'm actually going to stay up to watch the games because of this. Hope it becomes a standard thing for GOM.
Ahh finally a way for a lag free stream on iiNet in Australia!
Awesome! This is watchable. If I don't have a HQ Ticket, I download the HQ VODs later. If this is standard, I can start watch Live if I don't buy (10$ 3day tourneys/GSTL)
I think a free twitch stream is good for GOM. For instance they can finnaly get some additional money from it. Twitch has a region dependant ads. Also it looks like GOM player encoding is rather bad since both streams should use the same main feed.
awesome cuz the gom player doesnt work for me on ubuntu
The quality is just as good as the HQ ticket I bought, congrats to the people who held out

You are paying more for the vods. Also it would be better to improve the hq first.

This is the best thing ever. Better quality than the gomplayer one, and I can watch it at work!
I LOVE YOU GUYS
Such a good idea!!! Some nights I wouldn't watch because the gom player had problems with my mac. Am loving the Blizzard cup as well!!!
COOL
This was seriously needed. I really hope they plan to use twitchTV in the future also for the free-stream. It's a pain to use gom player just to get low quality. The payed version could use gom np..but free twitch is enough.
I encourage both gom and twitch to do this in the future also! for any korean event like GSL and GSTL or whatever...low quality put it on twitchtv....payed highquality put int on gomplayer. + they get WAY more viewers both on PC's and on mobile devices this way..compared to a "login...+ download a random software...+ watch"...to much work for free stuff.

Quality is better than the regular SQ stream from Gom as well. All is good in the world.

It's no longer coL.Naniwa
Great news, the stream is working amazingly, not like the stutters you get on the gom player and the dcs at times.
This looks just as good than their "HQ" stream, to be honest; also, the video does not lag behind as it happens with GOMPlayer for Mac.
It's nice to get viewer counts as well. 20k on free stream alone is not too shabby.
Thanks so much TheGunrun. I was ecstatic when I read this announcement, then I re-read it again but imaging you reading the post out loud in your svelte, smooth voice and I loved it even more.

YES! Gomplayer dosen't work at my school and thats when the matches are played :D
This was awesome, as the quality of the twitch.tv 360 stream is MUCH higher than the GOM free stream.
What a move. Also this is really good way to measure how many people watch GSL live. Wow, over 20K viewers! This will definetly drag some sponsership to GOM.
Will the vods be up on that channel? I missed the event today due to an exam.
oh cool, this might bring me back to watching GSL

GOM have already said they are going to reduce the quality of the Twitch stream next time so today was a one time deal. It'll probably be 240p or something next time.

This. I hope that the coorperation will continue onto the next year of GSL seasons (and GSTL of course)! I also hope that they up the stream quality and this comes from somebody who rarely (once a month or so) watches the stream and buys all the tickets to watch the vods (and is gladly to do so because it is the highest level of game). Lately I've been kind of irritated on how GOM treats the non-Korean community compared to the Korean community and I hope that they will be more considerate to their fans outside of Korea.
edit: typo

Very smart move by Gom.
I think this will be the standard for future Gom events.
GSL on TwitchTV? Yes, please.
I found the quality was on par with other leagues who also have premium services which is not the case with the normal free SQ from gomtv.net. It's a shame if they're gonna lower it tomorrow.
THANK YOU! I can finally watch some GomTV content, the player never seems to work on my computer. I hope they try do the same with HD (for the same price as on GomTV of course)
Cool, now I can watch the GSL from my phone!
In terms of quality for people wondering btw:
Gom HQ > Twitch "360+" >>> Gom SQ
I really hope this continues for the rest of GSL. I can never watch GSL because the gom player doesnt work on my mac for whatever reason. It's the biggest deterrent of why I never watch the GSL despite the fact that I watch most of the other big tournaments.

too bad I still can't watch the vods so none of this really mattered to me |:

The fact that Koreans get free 1080p and "foreigners" get a free stream that has the supply counts barely readable throughout the game. The bare minimum should be readable supply counts throughout the game. Anything above that and if they feel like they need to charge so be it. You should be able to read all the information on screen easily (without deciphering pixel blocks).
You don't bring in new people and get new subscribers if your introductory product just makes people immediately turn it off because of the crappy quality. People already invested in SC2 will put up with crappy quality to see their favorite players, the same cannot be said about someone without any prior exposure.
Can you make a Re-Broadcast for this poor side of the world?...the occidental part I mean..
If twitch.tv can do the same for GSL/GSTL, I would have your babies. It will be awesome to finally watch GSL live with my ipad.

Koreans "pay" for their 1080p stream with Ads. Quite a few ads actually. One of the ways twitch might profit from the Gomtv cooperation (and Gom as well) is easier access to western sponsors who want to buy Ad space. If they cut a Twitchtv ad between the games (please not between the sets) while the screen is "paused" (the "coming up next XY" screen) they could make enough money to make a 480 stream worth it from the ads alone.
Nice!! Finally watchable on Android
Meh, good stuff, but still can't watch because of time difference and don't want to pay $10 for one small tourney...so thx ,but idc

Just wondering, if this were to be the case with a regular GSL season, how would tickets work? Would they still have to buy the ticket to watch via twitch? I'm assuming so, or else they wouldn't be flirting with this idea.

Twitch has a built-in ticketing system that a broadcaster can use to unlock access to higher quality streams and VODs. It's exactly what NASL uses for their broadcasts. And I assume that GOM and Twitch could work out a custom-made solution if GOM decides to move more of their broadcasting over to Twitch. They'd become one of the largest users of Twitch overnight.

MVP vs. MMA or NesTea finals?
Or will someone else (DRG? Leenock? Naniwa?) upset the expected progression?

Thank God Twitch is doing this. Makes it so much easier considering I've forgotten my password several times already.
GOM definitely has to make themselves more accessible. -.-

but anyways this is awesome news!! i've always found the streaming via gom player extremely cumbersome and low quality compared to justintv. plus it lags a tonne. hopefully GSL starts doing this more often!

If so, that would be amazing. Lately I've been kind of irritated on how GOM treats the non-Korean community compared to the Korean community and I hope that they will be more considerate to their fans outside of Korea. edit: typo How have they been inconsiderate? Did i miss something? The fact that Koreans get free 1080p and "foreigners" get a free stream that has the supply counts barely readable throughout the game. The bare minimum should be readable supply counts throughout the game. Anything above that and if they feel like they need to charge so be it. You should be able to read all the information on screen easily (without deciphering pixel blocks). You don't bring in new people and get new subscribers if your introductory product just makes people immediately turn it off because of the crappy quality. People already invested in SC2 will put up with crappy quality to see their favorite players, the same cannot be said about someone without any prior exposure. What about vods? I thought Koreans also have access to vods for free. If that is not the case, then please forget whatever I said. I was just misinformed (or ignorant, I admit not putting in much research for making that post). Yeah they get vods, but also those lots of "ads" they get is where we just look at the studio while they are running ads. Wish they would run tons of adds during that time to get the service for free

it says i need a pw to continue. Does anyone know?
^^ yea im getting a password too. weird. anyone know?
Probably because it doesn't start for 45minutes and they are running stream/preparing so it will run smoothly when it starts.
So excited to get to watch this on twitch. I never can get the GOM player to work.
And soon it's time to take notes! :D
it's passworded when it's not broadcasting.
I wish they would do this for all gomtv events, the stream on gom lags like hell for me, even on the low quality free stream. Twitch is nice and smooth.
This will definitely make it easier when I try to get my friends to watch rather than making them set up an account and download the GOM Player.
is it me or todays twitch stream is seriously droping frames?
Nice. I haven't encountered a problem using GOMTV yet, but this is great for anyone that has problems with GOM's player.
This is awesome. Now I can watch GSL wherever I am and not just at home \o/ Thanks GOM <3<3
lower quality low broadcast ftw
so good that the gomtv official stream doesn't work for me..
Twitchy working fine right now
Popout asking for an access code ?
Edit: Nevermind, fine now.
Fantastic initiative, watching right now!
Awesome and lag free. I can't watch GSL on gom player for some stupid reason so it's nice to watch gsl for a change. Now if only Tastosis was casting.
#1 reason to watch GOM streams on Twitch.tv: You can barely make out the supplies! Upgrade!
this is no SD... Its freaking HD to me @_@
I'm curious how a partnership like this benefits Gom. Do they presume people who tune in via Twitch will really buy a ticket just for Vods or slightly better quality?
Why isn't this stream featured anymore on TL?

the quality is too good obviously :p
Is it just me or is the quality lower today than the previous days?
hmmmm, the quality is much worse today. Looks exactly like standard gom player SD quality now
Apparently being able to see the supply was just too much
SMH how do GOM justify having the lowest quality free stream of any major tournament.
I only watched the stream on monday but compared to the quality I'm seeing now, it was so much better. Such a shame.
Wow why did the stream quality drop so horribly? It was good the first 2 days and now it's almost unwatchable.
They apparently just re-increased the quality?
Hm are they not doing the finals tonight? Looks like the channel is offline.
This is good so you can watch GSL while in bed or something with your Android smartphone, as the GOM player didnt work for any phones.. so in that sense its good.
Still dont like GOM for the massive messups they have did lately, so using something other than the GOM player even when watching on a computer is a good idea. Can finally uninstall that junk.

I believe they launched their m.gomtv.net for the purpose of catering to mobile phones. Also, I believe this partnership is only for the Blizzard Cup, so don't go uninstall if you want to follow GSL next year.

Unfortunately I'm stuck on mobile, and its not showing up in either the Twitch app or the Justin app. I've watched previous broadcasts like this so dunno whats the problem...
Glad to hear the browser version is working though

Wow, the Twitch.tv GOM stream looks pretty good. Better than the SD GOM player, almost as good as the HD GOM player.
For those watching it free, watch it on twitch.
