I did see the topic QXC departs FXO? but I am making this thread so that everyone can see without going into the thread that qxc has gone from FXO to Complexity.
ESFI World has confirmed that Kevin "qxc" Riley, the North American Terran StarCraft 2 player, has been transferred from FXOpen E-Sports to Complexity Gaming. FXO's general manager Joshua "BoSs" Dentrinos verified the news.
"Our Korean team's success is based on a model I believe in," Dentrinos said. "It is very difficult for foreigners to comply with that model because of cultural, personal and mental differences. At the same time he was attending school, etc., and the investment was a bit daunting. Complexity wished to have him, and the transfer was best for QXC so we had no choice but to do what is best for him."
Riley was announced as one of five new players added to FXO's international StarCraft 2 squad back in March of this year. During his time with the Australian-based organization, qxc trained and competed in South Korea in the GSL Team League (highlighted by his infamous all-kill against Incredible Miracle), as well as making a run at the GSL Code A qualifiers in the July edition. Prior to his joining FXO, Riley was teamed with ROOT Gaming. Now going to Complexity, he will be rejoining past teammates CatZ and Drewbie.
Seeing as qxc will be joining many of his former ROOT teammates, I think this will be a very good fit for him and I hope he does very well at any tournament he is able to attend.
EDIT:
Complexities report:
Today compLexity Gaming is thrilled to announce that we have added another star player to the compLexity Starcraft II roster.
After completing a player transfer from FXO, we are pleased to announce that Kevin "QXC" Riley will be rejoining his former ROOT teammates.
I am excited to bring Kevin to our team. QXC is a name that everyone knows and with his reinvigorated dedication to the game, I am confident that he will continue to be a top talent in the game. -Jason Bass, COO of Complexity Gaming
Unfortunately we came to a situation where QXC required a different type of condition to other players. And without wanting to hold him back he has managed to find something to suit his requirements and we are thankful that he was able to. FXO supports Kevin in all his endevours and will continue to cheer for him as a player and friend. We thank him for everything he has brought to FXOpen e-Sports.
-FXOBoSs
I am extremely grateful for the support and opportunities FXOpen has provided me. I will never forget how lucky I was to go to Korea and compete in the GSTL. I had a lot of fun with my teammates and boss. Unfortunately, due to a difference in vision and focus, the time has come for us to part ways. I'm extremely excited and proud to be a part compLexity where I will be rejoining some of my old teammates from ROOT Gaming as well as other players that I have become good friends with over the past few months. -The man himself, QXC

well he's still in college, so that wouldn't help much, he probably isn't fulfilling enough things to stay on FXO compared to the Koreans, or may be he's just busy with college and needs a lighter load etc.

Well, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he is still in school, so he cannot live at the house in Korea.
Ah, so it sounds like FXO gained some compensation for the transfer.
Yeah, they were always very focused on getting a team house and I guess it didn't work out for the foreigners. Along comes fOu and you've got yourself a team which kinda fits your model. Just gotta find a way to make them Koreans more relatable with the foreign fans.

From what I have seen he generally does awesome things during the summer, then going into hiding aka school during the school year, so hopefully we will get to some good stuff from him this summer as well (another all kill would be badass, but that will be hard seeing as complexity isn't in the GSTL
I was kinda of disappointed at first actually. Maybe because I really love FXO. But then, I realized I was being stupid. qxc introduced me to pro starcraft. qxc made me love a team (RIP root tt). qxc made be be his fan, and thus, I will always be 100% qxc fan.
Can't say this was unexpected especially after seeing the qxc left fxo thread.. Good luck to qxc in complexity! Hope he gets the chance to go korea again soon!
Kinda sad to see him drop out of FXO but at the same time good luck to him in the future in Complexity. Hope he can get done with school soon and show what he's made of once again.
Korean training regiment is indeed unforgiving and it's for ppl who can dedicate 101% to the game resulting in extremely good performances. I hope the best for QXC!
are they making cuts soon or? I mean don't get me wrong. Its a great pickup qxc is a great player and is making the most out of Korea, congratulations. but everytime I see a coL pick up im like "How?"

They have made cuts...they dropped a ton of their B-teamers (FireZerg, Stalife, AntiMage etc) and when they send DongRaeGu places he beats everyone. And qxc hasn't been in Korea for months and months and won't be playing full time for a long time.
I know Starcraft wants to be legit and journalism like that article highlights how far they still have to go. It is a worrying trend how often words are misused and then continue to be misused such as with infamous (which doesn't mean famous). I've seen this used to mean epic or even just famous numerous times now.
However(!), I am very glad he has left FXO, I didn't really like them and I think complexity is a much better fit.
I kind of stopped caring about who is on which team. I just want to see my favorite players compete. QXC is a player I like following in tournaments. He's one of those players, like TLO, who inspire me to play Terran.
Good for QXC and coL, makes them look stronger than ever. They have a pretty impressive roster now, covering many different areas. Top performers like qxc and Nani, community favorites/characters like CatZ, Minigun and drewbie and up-and-comings with goswser and Trimaster.
I wouldn't be surprised, however, if the leftovers from the early coL.SC2 days (they picked up team NOVA to be their SC2 squad) would be dropped soon (ryan, ryze, rsvp) since they really don't contribute much to the team's success anymore.
Another effect of the transfer is that (at least for me) FXO becomes surprisingly uninteresting. I used to be a big fan of their promises and ambitions, but the Malaysia thing never happened and all FXO news are about players leaving and Wolf left them too. Well I guess FXOLeenock won Providence, but tbh Leenock ist still LeenockfOu to me. So yeah, not an FXO fan anymore I guess. Good luck to coL and qxc though! And cheers for ROOT gaming haha :D
On December 01 2011 21:25 ZOMGitsTHEEND wrote: This is great for qxc but it doesnt seem like there is anyone left on FXO other than the formerly f0u
I Don't think they have any interest in keeping their non-korean players. It seems they prefer to purchase talent rather then grow it themselves, which is alright for some I guess. Atleast to the credit of other large teams like EG and Complexity they have shown interest in growing the e-sports scene globally.
A little math equation:
FXO-X+U=FOU
-10 FXO +10 Complexity picking a community favorite like QXC was a great choice.
OMG that is the best thing ever :D my favorite player joing guys from my former favorite team. Good luck QXC I hope we will see you in more tournaments now.
And stream more please, there is never enough of you
sigh. Doesn't anyone have the ambition to train like the best player in the world... to be the best player in the world? Makes me sad seeing so many people take the easier way out.
Now this is awesome! I have always enjoyed qxc's play and when he finishes his school I really hope him and coL can reach an agreement to send him to the mvp house in korea. Guy has so much talent, best of luck to him and coL!
I think this is a bad move from FXO. I mean everyone loves the guy he is probably the coolest terran there is and even studying he still gave a lot of visibility to FXO on the foreigner scene, also i think everyone can agree he was the player with the most potencial on fxo foreigner's team i remember back in gstl where it was basically all hopes on qxc+oz. I might be wrong but i don't see what a company like FXO would take from starcraft other than visibility and i think qxc delivered that .
Disappointing news. QXC has so much potential, but I don't feel like he's going to live up to it outside of Korea. I was hoping he'd go back to the training house once he graduated.
qxc is one of the players who has put real thought behind his play, good pick up by coL... they have a really smart Terran practice partner to say the least.

How I wish I had my report button -__- qxc has one of the greatest potentials around and is a avid hardworker, how many player around do you see with those caracteristics? HuK and Naniwa are the only ones who comes to my mind right away.
Kinda wondering what response this will get from the SC2 faithful, but good for qxc to choose a more friendly environment to be able to finish his schooling rather than make it backseat to going to Korea and improving his skill. While us fans would love to see him do well (he was always amazing to watch back at the peak of his popularity), I'm glad he's also thinking of his future BEYOND just SC2. Not gonna last forever, and there are a ton of very intelligent progamers putting careers on hold to play SC2. For example, CatZ said last night on his stream that he'd invested nearly 200k in his education in media arts (I think that was the major) and even though he makes money from tourneys and streaming, still owes money. Just my 2 cents, but definitely gl to qxc in coL!

Doesn't the col.mvp deal just consist of col paying for MVP players to travel, basically?
Yeah, why would you need the foreigners anymore to gain exposure in the foreign scene when their korean big guns are coming to the events anyway and placing high? Is there even any non-korean left on this team?

Great news imo. FXO has basically become a Korean team, and i liek complexity getting some more good players. ^^ Also nice to see QXC, CatZ, drewbie, and minigun back together :D

Because he goes to school in Spain. Any time off from then he'll surely go back home rather than to Korea.living in Korea full time ala yuk and Kinross is a big commitment.
This is great for him and best of luck, but I am becoming concerned with FXO. Their non Korean team seems to be lack luster. I really don't want to see the scene just go and buy Korean players, not giving a chance to amazing foreigner pros.

Why the all kill is labeled as infamous? As far as I know 'infamous' is a negative word, it makes it sounds like qxc killed himself 4 times in a row. I wish him all the best. One evening I was watching his stream, he had prepared a list of build orders in a .txt file and executed them one by one. The funny part was, that it didnt matter what his oponnent was doing - qxc simply followed his plans, pwning koreans one after another.
But Honestly, so many of the western players do not have the drive and ambition to become the best.
Everyone at FXO was given the opportunity to go train and live in korea but almost all declined and have since then left.
I know there are some cases when they just couldnt but most just didnt want too.
And I know that there are also players out there that if FXO had offered them the opportunity to go live and train fulltime in a Korean Training House. That they would be on the next flight there.
It is just disappointing that they do not want to take a great opportunity to become better players.

Not wanting to drop out of school or not wanting to pick up and move across the globe, leaving behind every person you know, your culture, and your language doesn't mean players don't have drive and ambition. It seems a little unfair to expect every person to be able to do what HuK or Jinro did. Moving to Korea has its perks, but it also has drawbacks that foreign players have to consider.

Yeah, well I'm disappointed that you, HitMonkie, haven't taken the great opportunity to become a better player by moving to Korea on your own dime.
Going to college and practicing as a pro player is A TON of work. I was wondering why I haven't heard much from qxc in terms of tournament results but now I can see that a lot of it can be attributed to the fact that he's still dedicated to school.
Without starting a fire. I dont understand why the FXO hate. Our players have choices and they make them. QXC is better off at coL because it suits his lifestyle and life. I told him to take the opportunity because it helps him as a person.
This was not a matter of "waa getting rid of foreign players".. Or "QXC doesnt have the drive".. He most certainly has the drive and want to be the best. But at the moment he needs the financial backing and relaxed environment which we cannot provide. So its best for him to go to coL.
I am still a huge qxc fan. And will always take the time to meet him at any events I am at and shake his hand. Because he is a great person.
I understand die hard fans and their attitudes, but no one deserves any shit for this transaction as your favourite player benefits 100% from it. Be happy he can continue to provide the entertainment that you crave. Rather than go around bashing people.

On topic, good luck to qxc at his new home!
Quoted for the fucking truth.
Sorry to say, but not being willing to leave behind your life and put your education on hold in order to move halfway across the world and train your ass off for the possibility that you might become a success in a scene where careers are short and only the top players make any decent amount of money is not lack of ambition or drive. It's being sensible and taking the long view.
So good luck to qxc, and I do hope to see him become active in the scene once again at some point.
Well, so much for an international team now, there are hardly any foreigners left on FXO. It's kind of sad, actually, with FXO first going to Korea as the great foreign hope, and generally getting stomped in the GSTL and GSL, before buying out foU and slowly replacing its foreign players with Koreans.

Good Luck yo. If not for his schooling thing, he would have been one of the famous foreigners in SC2. True potential right there. But hey once schooling is done, our man would be back. Go Go Bandana Terran ^^ . Nice pickup by Complexity, and hey its sort of a ROOT reunion. QXC, Catz, Drewbie, Minigun nice nice.. And they have Naniwa.....and not to forgot the entire MVP barrage.

Too bad for FXO. They used to have so much personality andamong the best in foreigner talent but now they're basically just a Korean team. At least with Complexity qxc can go back to Korea in the future when he's done studying.

Because this is the Internet, and anonymity lets people revel in their inner caveman, where everything is either the best thing ever, or the worst thing ever.
Really high quality pickup for complexity, during the last bit of time qxc dedicated fully to sc2 he proved that he had both the skill and the drive to be the best. I can't imagine what having DRG, genius, keen, and the whole of MVP for practice partners will do for his matchups when he comes back to fulltime play.
That's...fucking awesome. I mean complexity already has some amazing players and it's great to see him go to a team where maybe he can get more internal practice and gear up to go to more LAN events.
Good luck QxC, I'm sure you won't regret your decision to go to complexity
Good Luck dood. I really respect that Qxc is putting school first and thinking long term, shows hes an intelligent guy.... and therefore I'm confident he'll roll some ace once he gets some free time!!
This can't be good for his career in Starcraft. FXO has been birthing top contenders in the GSL, and QXC improved dramatically during his time in Korea. He's giving up access to some of the best practice partners in the world for (no offense) catz and drewbie? (EDIT: That was a stupid remark. I realize complexity has many outstanding players, those were simply the two highlighted in the OP.)
I love QXC, and if this is the best for him personally that's how it has to be. It's a shame to see him leave FXO though...
Complexity doing work ... just imagine if they had good STEPHANO O_o;
Good Luck to QXC and congratulations to coL. Nice to see him join up with some former ROOT teammates.
Hopefully FXO can find some more foreigners who can fit there model since most of the foreigners they had when they went to korea are no longer apart of the organization.
Best of luck to QXC, I've always really enjoyed his personality, so I hope he retains that at coL.
I'm not very surprised, as FXO seems to be focusing more and more on their Korean side of things, which I think is VERY good, considering how small the scene is in Korea.

Ummm coL does have a korean house, the MVP house. I expect to see qxc in the MVP house after school is done because he always said Korea is the goal. Complexity can support that so good for qxc. They are getting a pretty good roster with the additions of naniwa and qxc. Also ROOT reuniting!
So FXO doesn't even have a foreign division now it seems. Its all focused on korea.
I am always curious about how the contract deals work for these sort of transfers. I wonder if it's anything like players moving between sports teams (with much less money, of course) or if e-sports hasn't reached that point yet.
As a Complexity fan, I am not sure how good of a move this is for the team. qxc hasn't posted good results for a long time, and while I understand he is a student, I don't think teams or fans should have to make excuses for professional players if and or when they pick them up.
Picking up the ROOT players has been largely uneventful for Complexity. It seems like Jason Lake was banking on those guys developing into higher tier players and taking tournament spots, but that hasn't happened... at least not yet. If he is hoping for the same sort of long-term development with qxc,it seems more like a shot in the dark than anything else.

He put up good games in NASL, just barely missed the finals. He qualified for iem ny, but couldn't go because of school. He was gonna qualify for iem kiev but had to forefit due to class. There is a difference in making excuses for poor play and saying he hasn't been at tournaments because of school. He hasn't had a chance to post results. Watch his stream, the skill is still there. Hell he demolished desrow (I know, its desrow) just last week with his limited practice.
I really don't understand why teams are paying for players who aren't even playing much anymore and dropping out of tournaments because they are going to school just because they are known instead of looking for the multitude of eager, talented, hard working up and coming players out there who would probably produce a lot more if given a chance. I mean you can't catch up or compete with koreans and other top dedicated pros who play 8+ hours a day with kids who are going to university and probably practicing a hour or two a day, if at all. But hey it's their money so whatever, good luck.

I don't know if I would say he is the most talented American player, although I guess it's hard to judge that kind of thing. In terms of raw talent, someone might say that goswser was a better pickup. I'm just skeptical because qxc has been on a general decline as a player for some time now, while the best players in the game only seem to be getting better. Let's be honest: in the unforgiving world of sc2 you don't bring in the attention and cash unless you're either winning or placing high in tournaments. (Or if you have an absurd stream )
I really hope that this helps QXC just because, he is still in school. Anything that helps him better both goals professional starcraft and passing school is a good idea in my opinion.

I'd hate to clog up the thread, but I love debating this sort of thing haha...
Looking at the most reason NASL season, Qxc did alright, although his group top to bottom wasn't that hard if you want to be honest. He beat the players he should have beaten (I can't remember the last time guys like Tyler, TLO, or Moman put up good results. Has Tyler won anything big since that Brood War TSL?) and got 2-0'ed by the guys in his group who are actually playing well right now.
Granted, i'm not giving up on qxc by any means, but I do think he has an uphill battle to right

He hasn't had a chance to post results. Watch his stream, the skill is still there. Hell he demolished desrow (I know, its desrow) just last week with his limited practice.
Granted, i'm not giving up on qxc by any means, but I do think he has an uphill battle to right
Qxc probably played less while he was in spain last year, then he goes to korea shortly after and all kills IM. Before that People were questioning his play because of poor performances in NASL and IEM. Qxc is a very talented player. He will be fine.

Fou was also the saving grace of FXO, as their non koreans have done diddly squat since gstl. Fair deal I'd say.

If he's really your favorite player you would know that he hates his name being posted in all caps.

Gooood choice As mentioned, he'll be back with his former ROOT team mates (good team synergy) and he'll be able to continue a career in Korea if he chooses
Col. seems to be very lenient with players who have other obligations, so I guess it's a good fit. Still, FXO will miss him. I'm still always a qxc fan!

wow, only moonan, optikzero, and slog remain from the original FXO before their korea trip. I guess they are much more focused on the korean team, so its understandable i guess.
Woooo! Haven't seen much of qxc lately, hopefully his new team mates + practice partners will bring out the qxc I know and love! Best of luck to FXO, coL, and qxc!!
I sincerely wish QXC the best, it's no wander that he left though, being in school still while being on a Korean SC2 team focusing on a team house approach is a pretty daunting task. Complexity has been having some pretty good results as of late.
Complexity continues to add awesome players to their roster, good for them! QXC is one of my favorite terran players, I hope he does well on his new team.
I am excited to bring Kevin to our team. QXC is a name that everyone knows and with his reinvigorated dedication to the game, I am confident that he will continue to be a top talent in the game. -Jason Bass, COO of Complexity Gaming
Huh, I've probably heard of him.
I'm really curious how he's going to balance Starcraft with college; hopefully we'll see him play at least a few tournaments.

Depends on how committed he is, probably. NaDa's able to balance progaming, school, and starting a business, but then again he is the tornado terran.
haha, this is like rejoining root. Could be a good change, perhaps coL is more accomodating to his school schedule? or maybe he wants his old clan mates. GL qxc

EDIT: sorry I forgot Gatored, that kid is seriously gosu!
(Or if you have an absurd stream )
qxc is only declining because he isn't practicing.
qxc was one of the best foreign players, then around NASL Season 1 he stopped practicing because he was doing school stuff in Spain and he got his ass kicked.
Then he went to Korea and started practicing again. He got an all-kill and was owning up.
Now he's not practicing, so he's not attending tournaments or doing as well now.

Super ultra mega +1. Fans of all 3 should be okay with this. FXO supports a valued player's decision to better his current situation, qxc is getting what he wants as a player, and coL is getting a great player. FXO fighting! coL fighting! qxc fighting! Fans rejoice! A professional pro-gamer transfer just occurred!

Huge fan of complexity now since QXC is moving on, FXO just feels like a Korean team but I will still root for them because of their extremely ambition run into korea. QXC still needs to scan the island!

Sad that FXO is losing so many of their foreigners though

I lived with QXC, and he's nowhere near a douche. You seem like a douche, for this douchey message.
I met QXC @ the Day[9] release party, and he was actually very unassuming and conversational. Ever since then I've been following this guy and rooting for him.
Probably the only dude out there who has streamed in the old standard 4:3 lol
I love QXC but I am worried by this. It seems like the coach of FXO was implying that QXC didn't train enough. I want QXC to be a god so I hope this isn't true.

QXC is concentrating on school right now so isn't really training at the moment.

He's actually a pretty nice guy, I don't know anyone who doesn't like him down here in college.
GL to qxc, but I really am a little bit surprised. After he did so well with FXOpen, I wonder why he changed. I guess he is focusing on his studies for now... but with FXO he had an awesome foothold in Korea already, now he has to meet new people and such... I wonder
