Really good for her. Tough break getting Losira but it's great to see a female up on stage playing some games of StarCraft 2.

Honestly, the more your average gaming fanatic gets exposed to normal, approachable, decent people who happen to be girls, the less likely he is to be his usual threatened, hostile self. It's all about exposure - people are dumb about what they don't get and, in fairness, a rather vocal subset of our community doesn't get women. Ideally, one day it'll be common place to see a girl competing on the mainstage and people won't give it a second thought. Then we can all just get on with living our lives.

Why is asking about how she chooses mod or controls chat such an important question, it came really out of the blue and the interviewer asked twice...what? Along with that the interviewer is trying to rush the next question so bad, almost cutting her off or not even taking in the very end of the last response from her

Oh, that's right, they don't exist because nobody cares about them or remembers their name. And half the comments in this thread are about how pretty or cute she is, to the great pride of TL's male userbase.

Props to her for having the courage to actually do this, though. I can imagine that not only the negative attention, but also the enlightened TL posters who will claim to be a fan of you just because you have breasts, will eventually be bothersome if not intimidating enough to get a girl to never participate in a tournament.


I imagine that if a male diamond player played against Losira on the main stage of the national championship tournament, he would also be interviewed, and a thread would have been made. Her games vs Losira on the main stage are the main reason she caught anyone's attention. Yes, she is a female so she ended up receiving more of it than a male would, but these interviews wouldn't be here if she hadn't been thrust into that situation.

All the points against her because she is a girl worry me slightly. Just because girls get more coverage in gaming does not make it a sexist standard. It's not because she's a girl that she is getting attention, it is because girls are less common than guys by far in the gaming world. Novelty attracts attention; if she had been black, or a pro-athlete, or someone famous, or only had one hand, she probably would have gotten the same amount of attention.

That being said, let's not kid ourselves; she's getting attention as a diamond (she is a diamond yes?) because she is fairly attractive. There are definitely girls in the masters league and I bet there are girls who were playing at MLG Prov against some pretty famous names whose level of play far surpassed this girl, but got skipped over because they were typical girl gamers.

This is the truth. It also worries me that a lot of people don't get that Julia getting this much attention is actually GOOD for esports. Remember, there is no such thing as bad press.

The interview was pretty good, and Julia is a cool person. I like her calm and collected approach to all this drama.

I have nothing against this girl, I think she's attractive and all and props to her for going out to an MLG, but I think all this attention she's getting is unwarranted. A couple posters earlier have alluded to it, but it seems like most girls are more interested in the social aspect of starcraft and not the competitive nature of it, which is why we even watch it. I've watched her stream a few times, and have never seen her ladder 1v1 or play a custom 1v1 or anything. Someone linked her profile and she only has 15 wins...do you think any serious pro gamer would only have 15 wins on the ladder before a big MLG event?

Yet we don't care about any of this and just give her tons of attention and exposure for being a girl gamer. Where are the interviews for vileIllusion, who tore through the open bracket out of nowhere? Or the interviews for the hundreds of other Starcraft 2 players out there who are working very hard to make a name for themselves. I just don't see how this is fair and not sexist in any way.

I honestly think they were trying to be supportive to the female community.

As a whole the sc2 community could learn from that.

She's had the courage to play against a korean on stage (well knowing that she'll catch a lot of attention/hate) for it. And that is totally fine, because she seems to be able to handle the trolls (that can't be said for a lot of females in our community).

However, I can't understand how anyone could give her crap for it. Try to think about it...you'll never be able to share Esports as an interest with your girlfriend when every female coming into the community needs to have a thicker skin than Idra.
