I've been listening to this show since episode 40 or so. I've always enjoyed it. The hosts are likeable and cool people and good at what they do. I still think this.

However my want to listen to the show has decreased a lot lately. Some of their guest choices have been subpar and questionable (btw, this is my personal opinion, so if you disagree, then our opinions differ. no big deal). There are a lot of upcoming and good players out there, some on smaller teams that could probably really use the attention I believe. Instead we throw the attention at silver league models with big boobs who probably do just fine streaming because of said attributes. Don't get me wrong, she's probably a nice person, but I could think of a thousand people more deserving and relevant. And the girls of starcraft are cool people, you've had em on quite a few times now and I like the flair they bring to the show, but god damn, you've had em on how many times now? 3-4? lol we know there are girls playing starcraft already! There are other people out there. Last complaint regarding guests. The show almost seems affiliated with EG, since every proffesional player you've had on has either been on or is on EG. They have been excellent interviews, but again like I stated earlier there are other players out there and teams. I'm sure if they were contacted they'd be happy to come on, especially the teams that get less attention than EG. I don't know if it's because the show has had segment people that are now writing for EG and you've reached out through them. I just feel like it's a bit skewed. All though the scoots interview was by far the best interview I've heard in a long time, definite props for that.

Again, I don't want this seeming like a hate post. I've loved the show for so long and I hope it continues going in it's current upward trend. I also just appreciate the fact that they are doing interviews now. So props for that.

Jacob, if you think for one minute that we haven't reached out to other players than you are mistaken. We have invitations out to countless potential-guests at all times. I can't stress enough how hard it is to get guests as an independent show, I can't just call up pro players and have them come on. Tara was on for a multitude of reasons, the most relevant being our mutual friend Matt (who runs the Seattle Barcraft) recommended her and we thought a discussion of how modeling and StarCraft work together would be interesting radio. We don't have people come to us very often (actually this was a first), so we welcomed the idea of a new guest.

Guest invites tend to snowball LzGaMeR was our first player-guest so naturally he recommended other EG players. We haven't had luck with scheduling as far as other teams are concerned. "Busting our asses" would be putting it lightly on the subject of how much time and effort we put into finding guests. So if you didn't enjoy the interview with Tara then you're right, that is you're opinion and I disagree with it entirely. I had a really fun time in our interview and thought she was a lot more than a "silver league model with big boobs" as you put it. If the "thousand more deserving people" had expressed interest in coming on StarCast then we would more than likely have them on.

Doing a consistent weekly show has challenges that come with it. The bottom line is I do this show out of my own love for the game and the people surrounding it. I also have a full time job to deal with because for all the time I do put into StarCast it makes me ZERO money (actually costs me money). So please understand that we do try, VERY hard, to get new guests on the show. For example we could not find a guest for tonight, so Kyle and I are flying solo. But sometimes it's nice to kick back and do a more casual cast with friends of the show (i.e. LivinPink and Brightside).

I really do appreciate feedback but I can't help but feel you don't fully grasp an independent cast's reach.

First of, thanks for the respons Garett. I'd like to state that didn't mean to in any way insinuate that you don't work hard or have a lot on your plate. I can't comment on that nor can I imagine what it's like to run a show like yours (which again, I like and have listened to for a long time). I can only say what I think of the guest you've had on as of late. Again my opinion, some might agree, some might definitely not. I only thought that there is a lot of different people worthy of attention. Like let's pick an example, QuanticIllusion? He's a young up and coming player, doing great and his former team Vile got absorbed by Quantic. Almost it's entire rooster, so a lot of interesting things going on there. Again, I'm aware it's defintely not as easy as that, getting a player to come on.. You don't just snap your finger. But given all the social medias (twitter, facebook ect) and community sites that we have today, it should be possible to at least get in contact (you'd think). At least it's not as difficult as it would have been 10 years ago. Wether they have time or not is an entirely different aspect, one I'm not qualified to comment on at all. I am personally just hoping that in the future, there will be a lot of different teams and players visiting the podcast.

Btw, I am sorry I didn't know that you considered LivinPink and Brightside friends of the show and not guests. I find both them and Matt awesome.

Anyway keep up the good work! I didn't mean to imply that you weren't doing good work. As a whole the podcast has been an amazing thing to watch grow and has been in my top5 "time pasing tool bag" while at work. And the community you guys have built up around starcast is fucking awesome.

I hope you view what I've said as just random feedback, cause it is merely that. What you choose to do with it is your busisness. But as the show grows, so will the number of opinions. And their variety.

another thing to consider jacob is shows that have people on it that aren't "as famous" don't tend to get any attention. It's a nice story to tell that you try and focus on the unknowns and up and comers but those people tend to draw a smaller crowd. If you are a show that is considered smaller but trying to grow you can't take risks like that.

All in all it's unfair to criticize THIS show for not going after the unknown people when you probably should be in threads for bigger shows like a SOTG, LO3 ITG etc.. and tell them they owe it to the community to try and give back to those less fortunate so to speak.

Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps. Didn't really consider this. I can only speak for myself and what I find relevant. And yes it saddens me sometimes how little your hear to some players. There are quite a few players who's voice I've never heard and who's face I've probably never seen if haden't looked em up on liquidpedia. But for me it's not about fame or exposure, as much as it's about relevance. I didn't mean to target this show, other than I disagreed with who they "slotted" in (even though from Garett's passive agressive rant at me, I clearly might underestimate how easy it is to get guests on). I still think there are a lot of other relevant people who would want to come on, so they can plug their streams and social media. That in itself should be worth it. (again, I might be jumping to conclusions, but I'm only going by my own logic) there might not be a thousand live viewers, but I bet there is quite a bit of people that download the podcasts and if a random semi known player can plug his stream to 400 people, why would that not be worth it to him?

And I can't really target STOG. They just had Darkforce and Socke on just as of late and you guys can only fit so many people in, before it becomes a cluster fuck of personalities. But to sum it up, I'm not trying to stand up for the unknown as I am to what is relevant to the community as content. I might clearly have misjudged what the community want, but I know what I want and thats where my feedback comes from. I'd much rather want a show centered around Infinity Seven than I dunno, Mia Rose? Or some shit. If that makes me picky, then maybe I am. and maybe this is now the wrong show for me? Which sucks, cause I like these guys and I like what they do. If I didn't like what they do, I'd just stop listening and not give any feedback to begin with.

It's a bit crazy to think that some people are more deserving to be on an independent show that others. You could say some may be more relevant or able to give more insights but just saying he deserves it is weird. EG guys being on the show probably has to do with them being the most out there when it comes to marketing their players. Other teams don't do it half as well and that is a bit tiring because while loving Incontrol's voice I'd want to hear from the lesser known players. Keeping a show focused on popular / top players will mean all opinions and thoughts are just from those view across a bunch of shows which can lead to repetitiveness if you listen to multiple shows in a week since they will cover similar events.

Also you are saying you know what is relevant to the community but you seem to forget Garrett and Kyle are too and maybe they might have an idea what is relevant to it. They started the show because they loved SC2 and had/still have? zero high level game knowledge. They come at topics from a scrub level player perspective and that is what makes the show different to say SOTG where you have 4? high level players joking around and being questioned by the host. This variety is a good thing because not everyone wants to listen to the same 2-5 people across 4+ different podcasts in a week and the forum thread doesn't devolve into a massive ball of hate on balance because of something Kyle may say about Terran.

btw you use "I" way to much in your writing and sound pretty narcissistic because of it.

lol quite the opposite. I use "I" to siginify that it's my opinion rather than me thinking it's some universal fact. Instead of stating the guest IS not relevant. I like to say that "I" think the guest is not relevant. I could be wrong, thats why it's an opinion. And I don't claim to know what the community wants, I claim to know what I want and what I gave was simply feedback based on what "I" find important and people may or may not agree with that. What could be more reasonable than that? Btw, that was 10 "I". I know that a lot of people don't agree, but no need to change opinion based on that. People should feel free come with their contradicting feedback if they don't agree.

It's ridiculous to advertise a "Day9 interview" as if that's the point of the show when it CLEARLY isn't. It's "StarCast, with a Day9 segment eventually". Why not label it correctly instead of blatantly false advertising? Oh yeah, because almost no one watches or listens to this podcast, so why NOT pull a stunt to get some viewership for once. I guess you have nothing to lose, except the respect of potential repeat viewers who notice your shady tactics of course.

I have listened to most of your shows while walking to work, and have enjoyed the majority of the content, aside from the interviews. I really like the scoots interview, but most of your other interviews are pretty bad. The scoots one was good because he talked about a lot of things I hadn't heard before, but even then he did it without much prompting so you guys kind of got lucky. All the other interviews are filled with softball questions, most of which we have heard the answer to a zillion times. I don't know if you guys are intimidated by your guests or what, the day9 "interview" was an especially bad example of this. Hearing day9 monologue about things he has repeated on other shows including his own, ad nauseam, is not entertaining. If your going to bother to have guests on, grow some balls with the questions.

I had a very short amount of time to talk with Day[9] and I wanted to be respectful of that. He had to get back to casting. So trying to sit down and really drill deep into his brain is kind of hard to do in what was supposed to be a 10 minute interview. Plus the guy does a show damn near every day. So there is a high chance of overlap in topics he will probably discuss.

Every other interview we have taken questions from our forums and here on TL because our whole mantra from the beginning of StarCast was "involve the community." Currently we try and mix topical/current event questions with more personal ones as well. What ballsy questions would you prefer to hear asked? Feedback is awesome, just try and give constructive suggestions. I can't do much with "grow some balls."

You spent a substantial amount of time talking about the lastshadow controversy in a previous show, but when given the chance to talk to day9, the subject wasn't even broached. Guests are usually never asked about anything remotely controversial on your show, which is kind of silly since you bring up most SC2 drama/controversy in the other portions of the show, its not like you are avoiding it entirely . JP gets some flak for softballs on SotG, but even he usually at least brings up the topic, even if the guests do decided to brush over it.

It is probably not a good idea to get questions from your chat, since many of the questions they ask have been asked before. Assuming you guys listen to SotG, ITG, and Lo3, you should avoid repeating the same questions they asked when you have a guest on that was present on one or more of their shows. By "grow some balls" I dont mean just ask about controversial things (even though that would be a start), but come up with your own questions (that are interesting, not what is your favorite panini, I could really care less about that) that havent been asked on other platforms instead of relying on chat or asking open ended fluffy questions that have been asked to that same person on other shows (e.g. "What was your experience like at the last MLG?"). Hope that helps.

Also, I do enjoy the show, the back and forth conversations you guys have outside of the interviews are very entertaining.
