Best games of MLG Providence?

I missed a large chunk of this weekend's MLG games, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend which games were the absolute best of the bunch at MLG Providence?

Unfortunately, the tournament thread isn't too much help for this. There is a listing of all the games along with the "Recommend Games" poll for each one, but it's really not very functional at all.

It requires several dozen clicks to look through the poll results for every game. Additionally, very few people seem to bother to vote (unlike the GSL games which get hundreds of votes, the MLG games seem to get 5 to 25 voters). And then the great majority of the games have a 90% "recommended" rating anyway, so the results aren't that meaningful.

Searching through 850+ pages of discussion for the most hyped games isn't an option either.

So if there were certain games that were really exciting or showed particularly skillful play, or certain entire matchups where the flow of the whole set of 3 games is a must-see, I'd really appreciate it if anyone could post about it in here. There were also a couple of people on IRC asking this question (what are the must-see games?) so I'm hoping a thread like this will be useful to some people.

All of the Naniwa games. However, the finals was depressing as we all watched nothing but all-ins.

If there was ever a nailbiter zvz to watch, Leenock v. DRG may have been it. It was exciting for me, maybe because I was rooting so hard for Leenock.

I actually enjoyed Leenock-Naniwa on Dual Sight. Leenock obv. had a big lead for the entire game, but nani put up a great fight and Leenock's play was just amazing overall.

I'm partial to Machine vs. Destiny in the open bracket, but that's just because I got to watch it from three feet away.

HerO's games were all spectacular; the ZvZ between IdrA and Nestea was great (huge clash of American/Korean ZvZ styles, both players pretty much abandoning muta play), TLO Spanishiwa was interesting, but that's all I really saw that struck me. I'm sure there are a ton more great games.

All naniwa games pretty much sums it up. It's just sad it had to end like this... It's like TSL3 all over. 1 game away from becomming the champion. Then losing 4 in a row. And that Leenock had to cheese every single fucking game made the finals extremely boring to me. Play to win ofcourse. Was smart, just really boring to watch. I reckon this will invalidify the 16nexus/forge expand soon... Speedling expand, no way to check up on if he cancelled or not...

I only watched a few games, but I loved Leenock's 7pool in the 3rd game of the Grand Finals. It wasn't the "best game of MLG", but it was entertaining and unexpected.

MVP vs Losira on tal'darim - oh my god mvp why are you such a god
MVP vs Leenock on dual sight - oh my god leenock why are you such a god
Hero vs Puzzle game 3 on xelnaga - UNBELIEVABLE play by hero, the whole series is some of the best pvp in sc2 so far.
Hero vs Sheth - the whole series is awesome, the metalopolis game in particular is just ridiculous
Hero vs Ret - YO MAMASHIP SO FAT SHE COULDN'T FIT IN THE EXPANSION (aww yeah)

awesome games this mlg, also i finally get to see MVP go mech and get a replay of it YES

MVP really had some sick sick games throughout the tournament, for those who missed the games:

MVP vs Losira (MVP with one of the best comebacks I've ever seen)
MVP vs Haypro (Haypro should've won if he played game 2 smarter)
MVP vs Leenock (never seen MVP get destroyed like that after taking a huge huge lead, the look on his face was utter shock)

all were epic series

Leenock vs Donraegu series had some amazing zerg micro throughout
Naniwa vs Nestea/MVP were also great in the MLG Global Invitational Final
Idra vs Nestea was good

So many other great games as well grats to Leenock he's a future legend taking out: MMA, MVP, Boxer, Idra, Huk, Dongraegu and Naniwa from the open bracket, the greatest overall performance in sc2 to date I think.

hero vs ret was great if you are toss. the drg leenock series was also the most entertaining zvz i've seen especially the game 7 they had. Haypro/mvp series was cool too just because haypro was such a underdog and nearly beat mvp. missed a bunch of games also but those were the memorable one's that i caught.

Yeah, I was hinting at that but you said it more clearly.

As for games. I missed many of them but:

puma vs idra G2
leenock vs DRG losers finals
sheth vs hero was good
idra vs nestea was good
Leenock vs HuK
huk vs hero (i dont know why but watching HuK hold the proxy and the four gate impressed me)
losira vs MvP
leenock vs MvP ( mostly the last game.)

There are more but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Goddamn leenock really impressed me during this tournament.

Man, there were so many series that were just out of this world. Why does MLG produce such insane matches? In any case, for pure entertainment, my vote goes for just about anything Hero played in and of course, Leenock's games, especially against MVP and DRG. Can't go wrong there.

honestly MLG site is horrible to navigate. I'm not sure if you can get access to the games... without being a member. Infact I find MLG site so new user unfriendly that I've never thought of buying a pass for it as I could never find anything to begin with....

I hope this tournament helps dispel the idea that ZvZ is a bad matchup. I feel it still lacks the degree of sophistication of the other matchups (maybe because there just weren't as many Zergs doing well originally), and you still see big mistakes very often, but in essence it is such a well varied and dynamic matchup. To me it's the best mirror by far.

HerO v. PuMa, HerO v. Ret, HerO v. Puzzle, MC v. IdrA, MVP v. X, Leenock v. DRG.
I think the first three really explain the trend of who I watched this weekend.

I really really dislike this point of view. Those were very good build choices based on what Naniwa had been doing. Leenock found a way to exploit Naniwa and Naniwa didn't adjust. Blame Naniwa for those not Leenock.

But on topic, Watch the finals. And whether or not you like ZvZ watch the Losers Finals with Leenock vs DRG the most awesome series of the tourney hands down. I've never yelled at my comp screen so much in my life.

I agree, it was depressing as hell to see such a glaring hole in naniwa's play.

The annoying thing for me was watching Naniwa do the same thing over and over again and lose to the same thing over and over again.

I agree. I know people are complaining about leenock doing a whole bunch of all-ins (though a few werent), but in EVERY single game naniwa played, weather against nestea, leenock, or whatever, he just did two base play. amazing micro and decision making so definitely worthwhile just for some of the cheese stoppers he did, but the build got old super quick. But heck, like people say, play to win, and he did win with it for awhile there.
The multiplying villanies of man do swarm upon him.

I second hero vs sheth, super entertaining series from those guys

DRG vs Leenock was really entertaining too for a zvz. Wish every zvz was like that.

I second everything about this post as well.

One of the best ZvZ series i've ever seen, and i didn't even think i liked the match up that much. Also, the MVP/Leenock series was great, especially the game on Dual Sight. Do yourself a favor and watch that game.

That's quite an overstatement o.o they might have been all-ins but they were definitely well calculated (esp if u mean leenock's roach rushes) so it's not like random cheese at least

HerO vs Ret/Sheth/Puma. The end of game 2 vs Ret was one of the most epic endings I've seen in a while! Hero's control and creative playstyle just give me the chills. SO GOOD!

Also MVP vs MC was awesome, just because it's MVP and MC... although I only saw the first series where MC went 2-1, didn't catch when MVP later took 3 games off him in a row.

And then MVP vs Leenock. I am still baffled as to how Leenock won that first game...

I dont understand the ppl who said the finals weren't exciting. I was sitting on the edge of my seat!! I mean the control and decision making of leenock was just amazing! If that stuff doesnt get u excited, u might be burnt out On the other hand, nani's perfection and build orders, and his micro was second to none as well. That made for a exciting finals, regardless of the BO. LEenock didnt all in (maybe it wasnt apparent). Only 1 game did he all in, in the others he used the 6 pool as a strat and expanded afterwards. Even witht he roach rushes, he expanded afterwards and transitioned in to a macro game, abusing naniwa's greed with nexus first.. Fantastic! Leenock changed the meta game!!

Haypro versus MVP series was my favourite

+ Show Spoiler +
One of the saddest that I've ever seen though, at several points I thought Haypro had lost, and then subsequently he turned it round to have the advantage. MVP lost an entire mech army in both games that he ended up winning, and I swear that if Haypro had attacked sooner on Shattered then he would have won

For me it was Haypro vs MVP. I'm a big MVP fan, but holy shit i never wanted someone to win as much as i hoped Haypro would win. The game itself was amazing too, but the excitement is what gave it the extra touch!

There were a couple of people that mentioned it already, but Sheth v Illusion g3 was amazing. A lot of people wouldn't have seen it since it was on one of the beta streams, but I'd say it would be a contender for the 'undiscovered' game of the tournament.

Think the most interesting players to follow durring this MLG were Hero, MVP, Haypro and Leenock. Most games from these players were pretty good.

Some of the most interesting games that comes to mind:

Boxer vs Leenock game 1
Haypro vs MVP
Leenock vs MVP
Leenock vs DRG

Yep, these players were the one to follow. I would maybe add MKP, but he has not been shown much on Red or Blue, despite having a monstrous run through the losers bracket.

I know right? I feel so sad for Haypro, he would of beat any other terran with play like that. MVP makes terran look so imbalanced its ridiculous.

I play Zerg and have a hard time with Mech, so I watch MVP play as he has the best mech v zerg. Literally nobody beats him when he goes mech (Besides Leenock, but that game was more of a MVP mistake than anything else). The closest I've seen was haypro...not nestea.

What an amazing series.

What kind of champion dies to 4 cheeses IN A ROW, you would think they would adapt by the 4th game.

i forgot to mention the mvp vs haypro series

that was definitely the series that i was most glued to my seat, i was so into it it was insane. when mvp won game 3 i hadn't been that excited from an sc2 game in absolutely forever.

fantastic play by both mvp and haypro

Most of the stage matches were amazing but i was there in person so i saw some of the unbroadcasted games.

vileillusion v.s liquidSheth (amazing drops by illusion)
IMMVP v.s LiquidHaypro (didnt see game 1 but game 2 and 3 were extremely close games. Haypro had a lead in G2 but got too eager to finish)
MKP v.s sC (2nd time they meet, MKP plays some amazing TvT to win the extended series from behind)
DarkCell v.s MKP (somehow MKP ends up with mass BCs in a TvZ to win.....)

IdrA vs Nestea from the MLG Invitational. Some of the best high level ZvZ I've seen in a while. Also, the IdrA vs Puma series was decently good, but only the second game on Metalopolis was really really good. The rest were meh.

idra v leenock games were great!! seeing idea quit on himself at a national championship was poetic.

Edit: but seriously, I think MVP/Haypro & Naniwa/Nestea were two of the best series that I saw.

Cant stand to see zvz just boring was HELL.

For me: MVP vs MC
Naniwa vs mvp
Naniwa vs nestea both series.

Huk vs Hero - Hero almost cry after that series.

Everything HerO... what bias.
HerO v. Sheth G2 was soooo sick. "We cannot hold"

Shattered Temple wasn't an all-in.

XNC wasn't an allin as well. He scouted with overlord the FFE.
Buildings would have died unless Naniwa placed like 3 more cannons + pylons. Which was:
(1) very unlikely
(2) if he did it roaches would have been cost efficient. As the probably still would have done damage.

I give another vote to the Haypro vs MVP games. All 3.
Amazing game on Meta.
Even the lost game was pretty epic. Should have targeted to CC instead of going up ramp. 2 tanks killing 20 banelings is also pretty awesome.
I had a good night of sleep.

I think all of the games from day 3 are a must see, and anything with Leenock or MVP or Naniwa in it.

Idra Nestea from the global invitation as pretty awesome. Thought MC MVP and Haypro MVP were also really cool, and Haypro MVP....... others also really cool, can't remember atm, so many good games

First game of Idra v Nestea was AMAZING. It was one of the most refined games I've seen in SC2, Idra's timings were so crisp, his scouting was so good, his mechanics were spot on. That game FORCED nestea to not go Muta's in game 2-3 because he know Idra had it solved.

Illusion vs Sheth was really amazing (especially if you want to see some really sweet bunker micro in g2)

Haypro vs MVP was the best experience at the event for me both for the games and the atmosphere around the station.

A strange one, but I really enjoyed Game 1 of Slush vs Nestea. Sure, it was yet another ZvZ with Nestea in it, but those Slush funky timings, the peculiar Muta vs Muta scenario and that one choice of upgrades (armour vs weapons) that decided the game...

Definitely worth watching.

In that same window where it's being streamed. click on the VODs button on the bottom right. Select Day 1, then Select Starcraft 2, then click the appropriate vod.

Game 3 of Sheth vs Illusion was one of the most exciting games in the whole tourney. I remember thinking it was the best while it was live. It's a shame so few people saw it.

Game 2 was very interesting also. Illusion's bunker/marine micro made terran look completely broken, but it was super impressive. I've never seen anyone do that before.

You should have just said "The whole invitational."

Those games, and in fact the whole weekend, were amazing!

I'd also say HuK vs. HerO game 2, simply due to the micro.

The HayprO vs. MvP series was clearly my favourite.

But there were tons of great games aswell for instance the games between naniwa and nestea or the gigantic comeback of leenock agains MvP. Was a great tournament over all.

Out of the ones I saw, here is a list of must see series -

MVP vs Haypro (all 3 games are incredible, also when u see how awesome Haypro played u'll see he was good enough to beat Nestea in the tournament)
Idra vs Puma (all 3 games are awesome)
MVP vs Losira
Idra vs Nestea
Hero vs Huk
Hero vs Ret
MVP vs Hero

MVP looked incredibly good on Sunday and took out a lot of in form power houses in the Losers bracket. Quite a few people were expecting him to take the whole thing (esp. after the Haypro and MC series) but then he made some crucial mistakes against Leenock and lost the series.

I was there too! IMO that was the best series of the tournament in terns of just game quality.
