Just for sake of clarity, he owes me no money as I agreed to run the entire Australian Qualifier for free. But I would like to see YoonYJ compensated for the travel & accommodation money he would have otherwise been eligible for. Apparently Gus intends to pay this money to Yoon in February.
Hi Dox, did you manage to speak with YoonYJ to confirm Gus' statement that they have "settled"? I am curious about it b'coz it's only he that seems to mention that there was a settlement so to speak between him and YoonYJ.
Haven't also manage to hear from anyone from TeamCube of Cebu and other HoN "participants" who flew over to Manila.

I feel this above all is the very worst thing. Out of everything that has happened. I feel sympathetic for the esports scene where the even was hosted. I can (sort of) understand if you don't like him, but is it a matter of you don't believe him? I mean stealing, bad management, whatever, as long as this guy isn't on the lamb, can't he just simply be held accountable for any missing money? it would have been much, much better if he responded to ALL the claims being made against him, specifically what he's actively doing to fix every single problem. as it is, the post is just a series of insincere apologizes and information that everyone already knows.
i'm going to hazard a guess on the state of the finances.
he's overspent an incredible amount, i reckon. i dont know how much IPL funded this, or how much his sponsors agreed to give/have already given to this event, but it seems quite possible given the state of the tournament that it was based very much more on glory than any real organizational or managerial substance.
to have premium casters/players and computers with insufficient ram? great staff but shitty stream? all that hoohah about bracket fixing? name dropping during organizational period?
everything just screams towards a guy who wanted to go all out to make the tournament look good, without hazarding any care for how the event actually has to work.
i'm not sure if the players have been paid yet, or if any of the finances have been settled. i would think, he might've paid off prize money, and possibly fees for tastosis. A guy like that wouldn't risk offending the premier casters in the sc2 world. allyn and rachel and so and so may have been paid as well, but i dont know. if anyone has an idea of what he has ACTUALLY paid out, that might be enlightening.
but honestly, my guess is he's just massively overspent, and there is no more money. how the philippines deals with such issues, i'm not sure. for his sake i hope he has friends in the police.
for the sake of esports, i hope this guy gets nailed BAD.
sidenote: probably unfair to put this failure on his part on the entire clan, the entire event (IPL), the entire nation, or even the entire region. it's just one really really fucked up kid, too used to getting his way.
I am sorry I don't remember names. The gentleman who is leading up the IPL had that interview in Atlantic City where he said he felt so bad about booking on the same date as a Filipino tournament that he had made arrangements to become a sponsor of said tournament and help it out. Please tell me that wasn't this tournament. This is the same guy that started the IPL by putting his job on the line with the understanding that he'd lose it if IPL didn't work out. So this gentleman now has to go to his bosses and explain why your garbage was on his stream and why the money he gave you all is gone with no return (and possibly a negative return with the uninformed). And the only reason he has to do that is because he felt responsibility to do what's right and trusted you. Words cannot express how pathetic this is.

This all happened right before the Tournament when YJY was inquiring about his Flight to the Tournament. Because Gus wasn't replying... or wasn't booking his flight... saying he didn't have the sponsor money etc... Excuses....
Apologizing usually comes with a course of action or at the very least, promise of action. When a person apologizes, he better outline what he is going to do to make it better. What he's done is "I'm sorry. I'll do a better job next time." He should be saying, "I'll be compensating the staff, I'm on my way to the hotel, I'll be handing over the cash to Cube, etc etc etc".
A course of action should always follow an apology. From the way the apology is written, it sounds like he's going to run the same tournament next time. Even with a detailed apology, he would be lucky to gain the trust of the community. I'm surprised that you actually believe him. He's not only incompetent in running a tournament, but writing an apology.
I guess I understand. I didn't expect anyone to like him, but one way or the other he's going to pay, no?
So I'm guessing he's lying about the whole 'paid people at end of tournament' statement?
This is a cover my ass, insincere apology if I ever saw one. He says there was no money for Yoon? In the facebook messages, Gus clearly said, he'd pay out of his own pocket if the money didn't come. He also refused to contact Yoon during this whole ordeal and ended the facebook messages with "good luck with that" when Yoon said he'd tell this to the community. Gus clearly was arrogant there and never imagined it would blow up like this. I don't buy this apology one bit.

The point is he has been saying stuff like this all along and nothing ever comes from it. He often said things like-- don't worry I will get the plane tickets. Then when people asked about it, never heard from him again.
Also if you follow along all the 'subdramas' coming to light (beyond the missing money), you will see that he not only at the very least mishandled and misran the tournament and the funding he had for it, but also has a very poor track record of how he treats people in general, including his clan.
I think people are very right to doubt this apology (especially when he completely avoids the money issue), until there is concrete evidence of him rectifying the situation of the debt he owes.
