This is pretty bad. I really hope this gets resolved and that Gus makes some sort of statement.

Q: Why does Blizzard Entertainment require a license to run a tournament?
A: There are several reasons why we require a license. The licensing system allows us to help monitor and promote ongoing events, and to encourage more players to participate in community tournaments. Additionally, the licensing system allows Blizzard to verify that our games are used properly and protects our intellectual property.

Q: Are there any fees associated with acquiring a StarCraft II tournament license?
A: Tournament licenses are generally free. To protect our players, we may require that organizers adhere to additional rules and regulations if the organizer charges entry fees and/or intends to pay out large cash prizes.

Q: How do I get a StarCraft II tournament license?
A: Fill out the tournament form located here. ( http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/community/esports/ ) Most general tournament requests will be approved instantly. Additional review time may be required before the approval of a license request, depending on the scope of the tournament and the number of incoming requests. We appreciate your patience!

Blizzard Entertainment has gone on the record stating that their licensing of their tournament scene was "[t]o protect our players" and "may require that organizers adhere to additional rules and regulations if the organizer charges entry fees and/or intends to pay out large cash prizes". Blizzard Entertainment put this onus on themselves and it's up to Blizzard Entertainment to prevent it from happening. The way they've designed their game, no other company or organization will ever have the control or influence necessary to prevent this from happening.

Blizzard is never going to step in as long as their revenue isn't affected. If Gus paid Blizzard, then Blizzard doesn't give an eff how he screws everyone else. Money is all that matters. Well, that and they want to keep these clauses around for when they actually decide they need them. They're an insurance policy, not a mission statement.

You do realise you are on a site that promotes Starcraft and tournaments >.> When thousands of dollars goes missing it doesn't really matter whether if it's related to starcraft or not, it's theft and fraud anyway. (Talking about HoN money).

The whole thing seems like a bit of a nightmare for people involved.

You can't imagine how we, the SEA scene, are disappointed at what happened. People were doing there best to build bridges from SEA to the rest of the world and this basically means we're back at square 1. I think we should wait for Team AZK's official response though before we start suggesting who's going to be responsible. Although it's looking a bleak for them, I'll hold my judgement until they've officially released a statement.

Or maybe just *simple statement of fact* will do. Creating another thread to rehash something that has already been discussed? Acting this outraged about some esports topic that isn't really important? It's becoming as common on TL as "ruining esports."

how is this not important?

This guy (and probably most of the higher ups of Team AZK) has screwed IPL out of money and screwed over a TON of players along the way

the IGN thread lacks details and most people in the thread are discussing IGN's involvement

I made this thread because he puts a face to who caused this huge mess

Rigging entire qualifiers, stealing sponsorship money, cheating people out of hard earned qualifier spots, advertising tournaments that never happen, lying to anyone and everyone, damaging an entire scenes reputation.... What would be important to you?

If you watched the stream for more than 20 minutes, or even spent 10 minutes reading all the relevant information, then I think you'd care a just-a-little bit. Or you don't care anyway, which is fine.

The only possible point of this thread is to serve as a verbal lynch mob of the organizer. There's no reason this topic can't simply be brought up in a post in the other thread. Are you guys going to start a fund to help IPL hire a lawyer in the Phillipines? Also "damaging an entire scenes reputation" is the type of exaggeration that is typical of threads like this and only creates problems when it gets repeated enough. Not to mention the fact that we haven't even heard both sides of the story. Can you think of any other threads in recent memory where people were lambasting one party as guilty before hearing the other side, and then after hearing the other side switching opinions entirely? EG/TSL, Major/Sixjax perhaps?

Perhaps, but the tournament is still on-going. I'd give them a day or two after the tourney to explain themselves. I don't think what their going to say would have an impact after this debacle though, but it's only fair to hear both sides of the story.

Such a shame, since one of the most intense PvZ's occurred. Casted by the prestigious Tastosis, here is the mighty encounter between Sen and Naniwa

http://www.twitch.tv/ignproleague/b/299396020

Sen is AZKfarmboy and Naniwa is Col.Naniwa

Enjoy people.

You ever heard of bad publicity? There is a reason IPL answered so fast and pulled support from the tournament. That is part of the reason for threads like this. Also to let everyone know to never support Gus or Team AZK ever again. There was no exaggeration, if you read any of the SEA community members posting you might have known.

No reason to speculate on the prize pool not being what it was stated. This guy may have done some shady thing involving player flights, but the prize pool is stated on liquipedia to be 3500, with 2000 for first. Unless IGN paid them for a 9000$ prize pool, then there is no reason to lay this accusation and tarnish the guys image where it is not due.
