We (as a community) need to be careful that we don't start moving too quickly. It is great that this will bring more viewers and help promote the growth of esports, but it should also be noted that we don't have anything to fall back on should the response be negative.

I don't really see this as moving too fast, esports have been around for quite a while now. To me it just looks like a huge, but logical, step forward.

For example, the thread recently made by Cloud about the payment of pro players is something that shouldn't be an issue if we are to move forward as a legitimate "activity", for lack of a better word. This is the kind of stuff that will give us less respect in the eyes of the masses should it become well known through the rapid exposure that we are receiving.

That would be ironic seeing as Youtube works a lot with the music industry;)

Poorly phrased maybe and I'm sure I could explain better, but I do feel apprehensive about this quick jump to the mainstream. However, I'm still PUMPED about getting an esports YouTube channel :D

I agree with what you say but I still have doubts. Huge steps and risks are necessary, but I hope that we have the permanent infrastructure in place before we take too big of a step (as per the payment issue). That way we always have something to fall back on should this not live up to expectations and fail.

Still excited :D

The esports scene doesn't depend on Youtube so i don't really see any problem there, it's doing quite well right now. The worst that could happen would be finding out that we reached our peak in viewers etc. That would hurt but it will happen at some point anyway.

Very true. I do also believe this is a much better step than the initial ESPN idea as it allows us to reach every corner of the globe instead of just us North Americans. This will allow us to extend to the maximum amount of viewers instead of just a segment of the globe. This will at least be a test of exactly how popular something like SC can be with the general public, or at least the part that frequents YouTube.

A reality show? Seriously? Please don't do that. Happy about the partenership though.

Awesome!!! Youtube is an exemplar of modern media platforms, and IPL's slick production will be a great introduction to ESPORTS for the masses.

I hope in the future we can see more collaboration between the big players in the NA ESPORTS arena alongside major media outlets to push SC2 further into the mainstream.
It puts the GG in the basket. It does this whenever it's told or else it gets the Mutalisks again.

I never thought IGN would do as much for ESPORTS as they have actually done. Fuck me, this is so huge.

This is cool. I dig those guys at IPL. I love these events and things just put together by people who love the game. I hope that not all of their shows are going to be lame though like most television stations. =)

I hope they figure out some clever way to improve discussion quality.

The idea of twitch.tv chatrooms merging with YouTube comments is downright horrific.

Fantastic news, way better than getting on ESPN.

Youtube does support streaming, doesn't it? So maybe, they won't be using twitch.tv.

As long as there aren't stupid restrictions based on country then this'll be awesome. Although wouldn't surprise me at all if there was.

Well I suppose it is about time to remove that adblock for all of youtube and not just certain channels.
