Sunday 6th of November, the final day of the ASUS ROG Stars Invite event, presents more Starcraft 2 action with Community Choice Showdown Matches with a 1000 $ for the winner of each.
While the eight player ASUS ROG Stars Invite tournament, sponsored by NVIDIA, is played this Friday and Saturday, there's more to see on Sunday as well. 5000 dollars are being handed out in four Community Choice Showdown Matches and a match between elfi and SjoW. That's five more matches featuring the solid bunch of players we're going to see perform during the weekend in Helsinki.
First, we have set a showdown match between the neighboring nations Finland and Sweden. These two countries have been rivals in (e)sports for ages, and now the battle continues with our contestants elfi, representing Finland on his home field, and SjoW, standing for the three crowns of Sweden.
For the rest four matches, we let the community of TeamLiquid.net to decide. There are five opponent pairs to choose from for each match. The match-ups with most votes win with one exception: a player can only appear on two matches max. If three or more matches include the same player, the least voted match-ups for the player will be ignored and the match-ups with the second most votes will be played instead.
All the matches are played in a best-of-three format and casted by TotalBiscuit and Apollo.
Schedule
- Showdown match A, BO3
-
elfi vs SjoW : Sunday, Nov 06 8:30am GMT (GMT+00:00)
- Showdown match B, BO3

Top voted options are all PvZ. TT
|
Inbefore the massive input of Idra vs everyone else votes. I tried to vote for the most diverse matchups. White-Ra vs. Dimaga was a no-brainer though :p
|
Lol HuK vs IDRA no competition son leygo
its great to be a HuK fan
|
IdrA vs HuK showmatch.
But why the hell aren't these Bo7??????????

I second this.

IdrA - HuK HuK - DIMAGA IdrA-Whitera
SELECT - IDRA
GOGO Vote select idra should be a sick match !
|
Sunday the day of PvZ im okay with that we have seen enough of terrans to last us years
|
I voted straight IdrA XD
IdrA/Huk = must be IdrA/Ret = I like idra lawl IdrA/WhiteRa = least/most manner IdrA/Select = I like idra lawl
|
|
IdrA-Ret needs to happen.
|
idra-huk huk-dimaga ret-huk whitera-dimaga
|
Seems like everyone just clicked options containing words: "Idra","Huk" or both.
|
IdrA vs HuK Dimaga vs White-Ra Ret vs SeleCT Dimaga vs HuK
I think these would be great.
|
Everyone who didn't vote for the ZvZs with dimaga in them have no idea whats up, disappointed in not getting to see a very high level zerg against zerg. At least HuK should get to win a bunch of money
|
huk vs whitera.
idra vs dimaga 2 bad it will not happen
|
idra vs ret Huk vs idra Idra Vs Select Idra vs White-ra
|
Hopefully some Idra fans are smart enough to let White-Ra vs Dimaga happen.
|
bo3
|
Sounds awesome, I voted for:
IdrA vs HuK IdrA vs Ret Ret vs HuK IdrA vs SeleCT
|
GSL has enough Terran to sustain SC2 fans forever, so anything outside of that is auto Z's and P's :D
|
Idras winning in all four categories, to bad he can't play in them all XD
|

guess he can't take home $4k from these
|
This is going to be awesome!
|
|
huk-idra.
love em both to death so it makes it that much better
#bestNAplayers
|
It's funny how Idra is winning every show match :D
|
The idea of letting the community vote which showmatches are going to be played is awesome! I really want to see Huk vs. Ret but it seems I'm pretty much alone with that opinion. But actually nearly all the matches seem good, so I'm not going to complain
|
Aww, didn't realize they could only be in 2 matches. But that's probably for the best. White-Ra vs Dimaga and HuK vs Ret would be fun too.
|
Lol, every single match that has an option with idra is absolutely getting dominated by people choosing idra v x :/
|
A lot of pvz for sure. Since the most popular names can't attend all games I suspect it'll suspect it'll be 2x huk, 2x idra, 2x wra, 1x dimaga, 1x select.
huk v idra huk v dimaga idra v wra wra v dimaga
Currently it'd go like that, but I suppose it's everybody's favour if select takes one spot so it won't be pure pvz.
|
Fantastic! Lets see if Idra loses any... as he is not yet.
|
Haha so funny that everyone voted Idra vs HuK, wonder what would happen if we could choose Idra vs MC
Nice job there by organizers ! GL HF Everyone
|
$1000 for a showmatch? Holy crap that's awesome.
This is a great idea BTW. Hoping other tournaments follow.
EDIT: One issue I have with it is that they didn't set a limit to the number of times each player could play. IdrA/Huk are probably going to be the top votes in each one because of their popularity. Needs to be some way around this.
|
lol, looks like it's going to be a busy day for Idra
On November 02 2011 11:03 vx70GTOJudgexv wrote: IdrA-Ret needs to happen.
considered this but even at the highest level watching ZvZ tends to be lackluster for me, maybe they'll put more effort into it on account of it been a show match (like an silent gentlemen’s agreement to go macro rather then seeing who's better at 10 minute Baneling micro).
Also Dimaga V WhiteRa temped me but to be honest isn't that match up is a little over played now? I mean it'll undoubtedly be an amazing show (as always) if it does happen, but maybe something a little more fresh could be a welcome change?
|
cmon guys click idra vs dimaga, i really wanna see whos better (so far dimaga's zvz is craaazy )
|
idra winning all 4 votes lmao
edit: god these are some horrible match times for NA...
|
IdrA vs HuK = no doubt. Then I'd rather see HuK vs White-Ra over IdrA vs Ret... The others though I voted for IdrA...
:/

You obviously don't understand the history between these two dating back to BW, where Ret was THE only player who could really consistently hang tough with IdrA while IdrA was in Korea (before Ret went over to eSTRO house).

Huk vs. Ret would be awesome I think.
|
Community choice show matches = major win.
|
It's a good thing Idra can't win all four of them. Idra can be fun to watch, but he's not that fun to watch guys ^_^
|
Nice addition to make this tournament even more anticipated. Hopefully the votes change a bit though.
|
The main reason IdrA is winning all 4 of them is that he Tweeted about it. I for one really want to see IdrA vs HuK and IdrA vs SeleCT, so I'm hoping someone else like White-Ra tweets about his matches as well.
|
eh, im a tool. I voted all 4 for idra before seeing any tweets

Even if he didn't tweet about it, its obv that Idra vsX will win atleast 3 out of 5 polls huk vs idra is obv Rivalry (MLG) Idra vs White-ra is obv Rivalry ever since beta and Idra vs select (the best from US)
|
We need to see White-ra vs. Dimaga come on how fun would that be, two mega manner friends going at it for fun?
Come on people Ukraine showmatch!
|
It's a nice idea and more games are cool but it shows that you can't let the community vote. Just pick the best games and I am sure everyone would be happy. It's a shame Idra vs Select gets more votes than Dimaga vs WhiteRa.
|
Awesome, love it how they let us vote for the matches like MLG :D
|
On November 02 2011 11:16 setzer wrote: Hopefully some Idra fans are smart enough to let White-Ra vs Dimaga happen.
They won't get a choice as idra is clearly leading match 2 and 4.
Dimaga/white-ra looks like it'll get the bye since idra cannot be in 3 of the matches.
*edit This vote could end up with 4 pvz or 3 pvz and 1 zvz. I'd say terran's aren't getting enough love but with idra, huk and white-ra I think it's just a popularity contest.
+ Show Spoiler +Plus we see enough terrans on gomtvt.

I think its kinda unfair that Idra could likely be in all 4 of the available showmatches. I realize he is popular but it is kinda unfair for the others players. Maybe you could make it a rule that a player can only be featured in one showmatch, so we see all the players.
Elfi vs Sjow would never happen for example if you hadn't announced it beforehand.

God, I hate idra fanboys.

Players can only appear in 2 of these matches.
But what bothers me is that apparently the vote is not locked per user. I just could vote a 2nd time...

tons of people missing the Dimaga buttons!
Just ignore the inflated IdrA votes, Huk vs White-Ra has so much PvPotential...
|
i should have perhaps waited until saturday night to vote. my opinions might get changed by the tournament result

Looks like it will be
HuK vs IdrA HuK vs DIMAGA IdrA vs White-Ra White-Ra vs DIMAGA
Pretty clear who the community love and what MU they love .

Personally I didnt vote for Idra in any of the matches because I knew he was gonna end up winning every poll anyway. :p TL open votes with Idra in them are way too predictable!
|
Elfi 6:1 sjow
|
If voting trends continue...
Match B: IdrA vs HuK (88%) Match C: HuK vs DIMAGA (37%) Match D: IdrA vs White-Ra (71%) Match E: White-Ra vs DIMAGA (29%)*
(essentially a mini tournament between IdrA, HuK, DIMAGA and White-Ra - if they each win one will people will be talking about match fixing?)
*IdrA vs SeleCT @ 51% would be skipped because IdrA has two other matches with higher %
Glad Match A is Elfi vs SjoW as they are probably my two favorite players attending and wouldn't get voted otherwise
|
current standings: Match B - IdrA vs HuK (88% - 3,565 votes)
Match C - HuK vs DIMAGA (37% - 1,499 votes) Match C - IdrA vs Ret (31% - 1,268 votes)
Match D - IdrA vs White-Ra (71% - 2,868 votes)
Match E - IdrA vs SeleCT (51% - 2,059 votes) Match E - White-Ra vs DIMAGA (29% - 1,195 votes)

Not that i mind, i can watch Idra all day but, if he is in all the show matches its like giving him the money already xD
Would love to see Idra vs Dimaga even though ZvZ is a pile of crap match, it would be nice to see the two best foreigner zergs playing eachother (Well maybe 1st vs 3rd as ret is probably 2nd best imo but ret vs idra happens alot @ MLG)
|
Love the idea of letting fans vote to what matches they wanna see. More of this!!!
|
sounds like a lot of fun, gonna be lots of pvz s as it looks like.
|
poor ret. The only player without a showmatch
|
so sad that idra wins very poll...
|
Looks like we'll be seeing IdrA-HuK, HuK-DIMAGA, IdrA-WhiteRa and then WhiteRa-DIMAGA. Should give some fun matches. Would have preferred IdrA-Dimaga instead of one of the other matches though.

nice!! voted for: IdrA - HuK White Ra - HuK IdrA - White Ra IdrA - SeleCT
|
Love it! More money to compete for for the players, and more interesting matches for the fans :D
Idra-Huk Sjow-WhiteRa Idra-WhiteRa WhiteRa-Dimaga
|
Don't want this match to win so I hope nobody else votes (Just to keep it awesome) IdrA vs Ret (30% - 1,337 votes)
So good matches on those votes, IdrA all the way except ZvZ
|
Tbh, just make Ret-Select one showmatch so they get one each too and let the last 3 matches be the most popular matchups from the dimaga/whitera/idra/huk combintion.
|
I kind of hope they eliminate any of the games that occure in the tournament... IE if we see HuK vs IdrA finals they would pick a different community match - even if that happens to the Fin vs. Swe match of elfi vs sjow...

Should Finland compete with Sweden in esports? pff :D
I'd like to see a match between IdrA and HuK!
|
My votes go to ret! Doesn't seem to help unfortunately
|
FYI, a FIN vs SWE match was organized at DigiExpo last year too. It was Naama vs MaDFroG and MadFroG won 3-1. The tradition exists in Counter-Strike too.
|
I want goody vs Sarens in a bo17 ! No this was a joke i got you... haha im so funny. In fact i want Idra vs Dimaga because It's ZvZ and it's even worst than TvT but Idra may lost and Dimaga may jump everywhere screaming like a lion so i would be happy

sucks for ret & select

Free for all between Idra, ret, dimaga and stephano.... yeahhhh.
|
Idra wins 3 out of 4 votes? :D
|
I've seen a few Idra vs Ra games (back in BW as well) and I'd conclude that Idra has enough respect for Ra to at least gg out when he gets his arse stuffed with fat Ukranian cock. Omg have to vote for that.

I think it's kinda boring to have to watch the same player 3/5.
I would prefer to see more diversity, but it is just my personnal opinion.

Yeah me too, especially since Idra is basically guaranteed to play in atleast 1 of them anyway.
|
That's some serious money being thrown around. Too bad it's Bo3 due to time constraints.
|
Awesome news, can't wait for this. Looks like Idra will have a lot of chances to bring some more cash lol.
|
|
I don't like that the options are grouped together like that. You should have made just one list with all of them and then give people 4 choices. Then you could have just chosen the top ones with some additional requirement that one played can't have more than 2 or 3 matches or something. With the current system somebody might not be able to choose his 2 favourite matches because they are in the same group, even if they would not include the same players.
|
As much as I love the whole Community vote thing, they should've limited the matches a bit more. Idra has been fun to watch lately but, seeing him possibly in 4 straight showmatches is a little much.(Yes I'm aware he's losing in one vote(Surprise ZvZ!), but it's only a matter of time before he wins that one as well.) Just feels a little silly.
Edit: Silly me, saw the 2 match max rule. Should be interesting!

I feel sad for Select, for not getting to play any show matches. He is a good player that constantly does well, using cheese very rarely. He is korean, but yet he speaks english better than many europeans, example white-ra who gets to play 2 showmatches. Select tries hes best, but still the community does not have many fans of him.

But we dislike them whey they study in the western world and play for a western team.

I would say it's more that Select doesn't really have a particularly unique style(White-Ra), a fan inducing personality (Destiny,Idra, etc), or any crazy good tournament results (HuK,Stephano). So he just doesn't have the fanbase that some of these other players have.

Why are do the showmatches have half the prize pool of the main tournament? I'd much rather a $14,000 prize pool and just $200 each show match.

You are not playing the tournament and I'm pretty sure the players would prefer a more even distribution and more chances at money. The prizepool and its distribution should not matter to spectators.

this voting is stupid. its like asking your 5-year-old what he wants to eat, and his answer is everyday:"candy". later he will get mad at you because he lost all his teeth.
edit: damn, i miss hasuobs in this field.

That's a fairly terrible analogy. What they will get is good games from popular players.

true, but not very deep. think for the future. if popularity decides about the income chances for players, you should better give them a chance to get popular instead of abusing this popularity -.-

Irrelevant point, it is an invitational. Popularity already determined the income chances for the players by inviting them to begin with. Players have plenty of opportunities to get popular since the vast majority of tournaments are qualification-based/open-bracket, not invitational format.

You must hate all-star games. I know many have complained about the quality of the all-star games in the nhl but I don't see many question the voting process.

That's ridiculous. All aspects, including prize pool distribution, effect how successful a tournament is. By your logic we shouldn't care about player treatment or stipends or whether tournaments pay out on time or a year late. We want successful tournaments, we want successful esports, therefore it all matters.

lol he did by the time I wrote that. He donated 20 probes and basically gave dimaga the game. You did watch the game right?
EDIT: There you go TB just confirmed Huk didn't know that third base of Dimaga and donated half his probes.

Does not matter? Hell no.
Theres a reason Valve hosted a 1M Dota tourny, not a 5k. I can agree that logically it shouldnt matter, but humans arent very logical. Usually its better to accept the way humans work and adapt to that rather than trying to please them the way you think they should work.
(That was in regards to distribution not mattering, not regarding 14k prize pool would be better. Im not saying it would be better with 14k rather than 10k, but its a valid opinion though)

Yeah, but I think it was balanced before that.. Huk made some mistakes early on, then started playing better for a while and then threw the game away.

You think wrong. He was on the lead by the time he donated his probes. It was three bases vs three bases and dimaga was massively behind on upgrades and had no tech whatsoever asides the spire.

Production value matters, of course, but a $100,000 has more on the line than, say, a $1000 tournament and to me, the common spectator who I guess you guys are trying to appeal to, the higher the prize pool the higher the stakes, and the higher the excitement form e.
If players prefer a more even distribution why don't you just give them $2000 each and let them play some games then be on their way? I know you want some exciting show matches but that's just how I feel.

better players = better competition = more excitement. If there are nice games most of people won't care about prize pool. Take a look at MLG, they give 5k$ to the winner and they still have great tournaments

I am trying to figure out how anyone could think that saying what you just said is reasonable.
"Why don't you just give everyone $2000 each", oh I dunno, maybe because money is a pretty fucking good motivation for competitive gaming?

Also, if you look at how the tournament + showmatch ended.. $7k for Idra $3k for SeleCT $2k for White-Ra $1k for Dimaga, Elfi and SjoW. Only Huk and Ret went home without prize money. When it comes to prize distribution in tournaments... that's pretty good!

I REALLY enjoyed the show matches, the banted in the Idra vs Huk and even at the end with dAppollo was pretty sweet. Hope more tournaments do this kind of setup. Excellent showing.
