You shouldn't be looking at it as going somewhere to drink. Drinking should be secondary to the actual purpose. If drinking is your primary purpose then i feel you're doing it wrong. And i fully understand that people exist who just want to go get smashed. I can't relate to those people anymore. If that's what a Barcraft is to you, well you're missing the point. Focus on the second half of barcraft, not the first. The bar is just a setting. Although i'm sure the bars appreciate the business, so drink up if that's what floats your boat!

It's such a neat phenomenon, and i hope it continues onward. The root of it for me is people like to be around like minded people and have fun. A bar is a perfect setting for this. I mean look at the LR threads. I post in those because those are the closest people to me who i can enjoy live SC2 with. If i could go down to the local pub with a few dozen other nerds and yell and cheer and shit, i'd be on that like white on rice. For too long we've been restricted to sharing our passion electronically. Now we can do it IRL. With beer. I think that's almost liberating. I also appreciate the "for ESPORTS" attitude. I feel it may get carried away at times but the passion is obvious, and the willingness to share it i hope will pay dividends in future. And that's BarCraft. It's not just people sitting behind their computers. It's out in the 'real world' for all to see. If that doesn't open eyes i don't know what will.

We now live at a time where everyone has high speed internet at home and a PC beefy enough to play StarCraft, so PC bangs are not coming back. Without them, the StarCraft community lost a home to congregate around. This is, in my opinion, the reason why BarCraft is spreading like wild-fire. It's not really so much about drinking, but about creating a local social-space and demonstrate a physical presence of our community to the public. That's how we can get recognition, new sponsors and fresh faces, that's how we grow the scene. BarCraft has the potential to create three things:
Unfortunately, money always dirties community intiatives. BarCraft will some soul searching. I'll help myself there this time even if you guys forget me. See youuuuu.
