As IGN Pro League Origins at Caesars Atlantic City (or IPL 3) comes EVEN CLOSER, we thought it would be nice to let you know the time restraints on booking your hotels at our extremely discounted rate with Bally's, the last chance to buy a player pass for 18-20 year olds, and the last chance to participate as a player at all. We have also got our pool play, qualifier, and stream schedules worked out and are ready to share them with you! Read on!
Last Chance for Players Age 18 - 20
Since we have to specially register every participant under 21 with Caesars, we have to submit their paperwork some time before the event to ensure that they will not be denied access during the event. If you are 18, 19, or 20, you must purchase your player pass before midnight on Saturday, October 1st.
Keep in mind that no spectator pass or badge holders under 21 will be allowed into the venue. If you are under 21 and show up to the event without an already-registered player pass, you will not be allowed in. Purchasing a player pass ahead of time and letting us register you is the only way you will be allowed to participate. Again, this is so we can get everyone approved by the New Jersey Gaming Commission and is not one of our own requirements.
All Other Players
For players 21 and older, you will only be able to purchase a player pass until midnight on Wednesday, October 5th. No walk-ups on Thursday morning will be permitted to purchase a player pass. Brackets will be prepared and ready to go by 10 a.m. Thursday, when players arrive.
Last Chance for Discounted Hotel Rooms
Our hotel partner for the event, Bally's, will only have the special rate for IPL 3 attendees until midnight on Friday, September 30th. For your last chance to book our heavily discounted room rates, you will need to click right here and follow the instructions. Click through and see the rates for each night, or book your entire stay at once. These are the lowest rates you will find in Atlantic City during our event!
Two of our amazing sponsors, Playhem and IGN Prime have set aside a limited number of spectator passes and upgrades available to anyone that is 21 years or older! Click here to read about Playhem's ticket giveaways and upgrades, or subscribe to IGN Prime ($6.95 / month) and click here to claim your free spectator passes! Please keep in mind that subscribers to IGN Prime are also receiving access to 4 additional streams:
Player Vision - Main Stage - This stream will be a split screen feed showing the first-person view of each player in the current main stage game. You can see each player demonstrating their monster APM with the regular commentary still on!
Player Vision - Qualifier Stage - This stream will be a split screen feed showing the first-person view of each player in the current qualifier stage game!
LiveU Roaming Backpack Camera at Caesars - This camera will be wandering around the main stage area interviewing players, behind the scenes in the player lounge, and throughout the crowd.
LiveU Roaming Backpack Camera at Bally's - This camera will be out and about in the Bally's area, streaming the open bracket competitor area, interviewing players, behind the scenes footage, and talking with spectators.
These extra streams will be viewable with IGN eSports' own proprietary streaming application, IPL TV: For an example of how IPL TV works, check out http://esports.ign.com/ipl/tv/

Note 2: The open qualifier will only be played out until our top 4 have been determined. The top four open qualifiers will be seeded in the championship bracket against the bottom four pool play performers. 5th-8th open qualifiers will be seeded against the third place performer from each pool. 9th-12th open qualifiers will be seeded against the second place performer from each pool. 13th-16th open qualifiers will be seeded against the top pool play performers. Championship Bracket Schedule All times are in Eastern Daylight Time / EDT
Note: All Round 1 games that are not streamed (8 series total) will be played Saturday at noon. All players will be required to arrive one hour before their games begin. Forfeits will be recorded 10 minutes after the designated start time.
Note: Again, all players will be required to arrive one hour before their games are played. Forfeits will be recorded 10 minutes after the designated start time.
Match Setup The terminology used herein is game = 1 individual game of StarCraft 2 and match = a set of games played in a Best of 3, 5 or 7 format. Every match will be played on the North American Server. Each match will be a Best of 3 unless otherwise designated. No maps may be repeated. No observers are allowed into any games besides the players and IPL authorized casters or staff except during practice time. No streaming is allowed by either player. Once a player has played a full game with a race, they must stay as that race for the rest of the match.
After 10 minutes, if a player has not arrived at his station, he automatically forfeits his match. Disconnects: If the player who is winning disconnects, it is a re-game. If the games outcome was not in question, then the winning player will be awarded the win. If it is too close to call, it is a regame. It will have to be very clear who was winning and who was losing as staff will err on the side of caution and have a regame done. Any decisions as to who was winning and who was losing are made solely by IPL staff.
Map Pool:
IPL3 Antiga Shipyard IPL3 Daybreak IPL3 Metalopolis IPL3 Tal’Darim Altar LE IPL3 Xel’Naga Fortress IPL3 Shakuras Plateau IPL3 Shattered Temple IPL3 Crevasse IPL3 Terminus SE
Qualifiers
The qualifiers will be a double elimination bracket, with the upper bracket called Winner’s Bracket and the lower bracket called Loser’s Bracket. Every qualifier round will start on a pre-designated map. Each player will veto a map that will last for the entire match, followed by the loser picking the next map. Once a player has reached the Top 16 finishers from the qualifiers, they will need to play out matches until the final four (4) players are remaining. Qualifier players may be selected to appear on stage. Players should be in the qualifier area at LEAST fifteen (15) minutes before their round begins.
Pool Play
Every pool play match will start on a pre-designated map, followed by each player vetoing a map, which will last for the entire match, followed by the loser picking the next map. Players must show up to the designated player holding area at Caesars forty-five (45) minutes before their first match of the day begins. For all subsequent rounds, they have to show up to the holding area thirty (30) minutes before their match begins.

I would kinda prefer group play to be a bo1, considering that the group play is just for seeding purposes only. Although it does allow us to watch many interesting match ups but knowing that each match is kinda meaningless (besides seedings) makes all the group matches feel unimportant. You can lose all your matches in your group and you'll still start out fresh in the finals bracket. You may have to face a tougher opponent but there are already so many good players.

It's super important because if you finish well in your groups, you will likely be playing foreigners, not koreans. In a single elim bracket higher seed is always very important regardless.
I find it confusing that there is no obvious difference made between online and onsite spectators. Watching online, what allows me to view all streams?

Even now, when the tournament is in the US, people still call themselves foreigners.
Also, are the regular streams offered in HD and do they cost the $6.95?

If you're watching online, you'll be able to watch every pool play game, all qualifier games between 1 and 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday (as noted), every championship bracket game that is listed, and every League of Legends match except for the very first (as noted). Does that clear it up? We have two full-time free streams, and IGN Prime subscribers will get access to the other four streams listed as well.

I'll be there folks! I live 20 mi. from AC, so I can show you all around the city if you wish. Where to shop, where go for good drinks, and where to find whores and drugs. Hit me up for info.
i personally think its the most retarded thing ever to host a game event at a place having an age limit.
thats like premiering an adult movie with majority teenagers invited . It just makes no sense. But anyway, I suspect the event will not have many live spectators but ALOTTTT of stream views since it looks pretty awesome with this lineup. i'll be tuning in for sure.
I am looking forward to group one. I'll admit that I have been skeptical of Stephano, but I would love to see him do well so I can put my doubts to rest.

but they chose a venue that had an age restriction. It's a terrible decision by IGN to choose that venue. They are cutting out a portion of their potential audience. Many people will still show and the tournament will still be awesome but the choice of venue is still dumb.

I think his point is, it was their choice to use that venue in the first place.
Can someone tell me what the deal with parking is? If I get a player's pass, how much will it cost to park overnight at Caesar's or is there alternative cheaper parking?
Keep in mind this is our first deal with Harrah's, who owns a lot of other venues, and we definitely plan on doing more events at other places. This is just the restriction of this one state, this is not something we expect to have at future events.
Will there be free VoDs for this, when the event is done? How fast can we expect them? Entirely spoiler free? I'm going abroad Oct. 7th -> 13th, so won't be able to catch this live.

soooo excited for this :D Congrats on the big name sponsors too. Im thinking the production value and overall quality of IPL3 is gonna be amazing, dont let me down!!
Thanks IGN, this is too awesome. Sadly I'll not be able to watch the streams saturday, and maybe sunday, but I hope everything works out well (I'm sure it will).
Again, this is so awesome, I prefer your stream by a wide margin above the rest. The quality of the production and of the casts are amazing. Thanks.

Ye, I totally agree, until i see there's the difference is meeting Bomber or Pokebunny (no offense dude) I too much rather watch the qualifier where games matter.. If they were atleast seeded deeper into the bracket like in MLG Providence.. this is just, well, i guess its to please the viewers or something, but I dont find it so
Everything else, great work and looking forward loads to the event!

LOL Samsung sponsors. Neat. Don't they sponsor the ailing WCG? Was? Korean company sponsors a SC2 event outside of Korea (that's 90% Korean).
I can't believe you guys are going to attempt 1 series per hour. If you guys run this efficiently without stupid 1 hour delays you will be the only live event without colossal wait times. I think I'm going to risk taking time off work to see all this.
Pretty sure I will watch the Open Qualifier on thursday and friday instead of pool play. These games are much more meaningful and therefore exciting to me.
This is going to be an absolutely AMAZING event! So many awesome players and a great venue as well. I will be going to the live event, so I hope to meet a bunch of you! :D

How does that justify making it Bo1? Bo1 is just a bad system that doesn't represent players skill. Also, it makes whatever map the games are played on so important and any sort of map problems can be exploited. It just doesn't show the players skill as accurately.

not a big deal IMO. they have stated that they are working on establishing a long-lasting relationship with harrah's, and this appears to by a one time hiccup due to a state law. furthermore, any under 21 year olds that are super intent on attending can simply buy a player pass, get the opportunity to get owned by a pro(or just dont show up to their match) and watch the rest of the tourney as a spectator. lastly, i'm not sure what percentage of sc2 live crowds are under 21, but i assume that the loss of those potential spectators is likely outweighed by the awesome fact the the tourney is at a fuckin CASINO.

I think he's underestimating the amount of SC2 fans that are over 21. I mean... hello, Barcraft?
I don't understand why people think that pool plays and their seeding is unimportant. Just look at the open bracket finishes from the most recent MLG :

hey guys, sorry it could be cause i'm tired or partially retarded (i know the event is in the east) but are the times of matches (esp championship sunday) all eastern time, so we can expect grand finals at 7pacific time?

Any word on how mma/ryung will get there in time? They both play gsl round of 16, oct 5th. Ryung needs to play ipl oct 6th, mma oct 7th. Is gom going to move their games up to oct 4th? Ign going to move ryung's games to oct 7th?
Well since group play is just for seeding, I can see ryung/mma forfeiting their group games because they can get in by saturday.
So very, very excited for IPL 3! Pool play makes a difference in seeding and I think people are overlooking the fact that you have a much better chance of advancing further in the tournament as a higher seed. I'd much rather take my chances against a very good foreign pro than a great Korean pro if it means advancing further in the championship bracket.
Also so excited to see the new sponsors added to all the already great sponsors. So excited!
One last time I'll say it. Huge thanks to IGN, IPL, and all their sponsors for not only hosting a huge tournament, but for giving some fans an opportunity to get a hands on experience working there.

Ok, I've read rules and such twice now and there is still something that confuses me: there will be the 16 Pros from the pools and 16 players from the open bracket. How can the pools be for seeding purposes, when we have a Round of 32 first? Where will the missing 12 players come from? Or is seeding from the pools different from here from the MLG System?
Wow, Square Enix, and even Samsung, sponsor the IPL!? I thought Samsung hates SC2 very much that they once threatened to pull back their sponsor from WCG 2011 but I guess time has changed already.

Wow! This is making me seriously consider paying for IGN Prime. That is a fking brilliant idea!
EDIT: Also happy to see that xel'naga caverns is not in the map pool!

16 + 16 = 32. I don't know where you see 12 players missing.

Oh its making me pay for it. First time I'll actually pay a fee or whatever you want to call it for a starcraft 2 event. Only way I won't is if I work all weekend and can't watch due to it but that shouldn't happen so can't wait
Could this mean maybe they're looking to make an esports style game? Would be super super psyched for that, it could be the thing that redeems them from the money pit that is FF XIV. Unlikely...but a boy can dream.
Some pretty damn good games are going to be played. Will there be a rebroadcast like at MLG during the event(or VODs) if you can´t watch all the games?
I'm really excited, think it's gonna be an amazing event. Can't wait!
But what I really wanted to say is that I'm very happy you used the word: forfeit instead of disqualified. MLG uses disqualified but it's mis-use, unless you explicitely state the disqualification is only valid for a certain map or series, it implies barred from continuing the tournament as a whole. This has caused a lot of confusion in the past because as word travels that critical part gets left out and many people assume it's an actual disqualification and not a forfeit/walkover. I've gotten very frustrated about this in the past because as we all know, interaction in the form of chatting is great added value for a spectator watching from home. I want to be able to answer people's questions but because of that confusion it becomes an endless stream and you just can't constantly answer the same question..
I just wanted to say that Best of luck, hope everything goes according to plan and will become a succesful event.
•Player Vision - Main Stage - This stream will be a split screen feed showing the first-person view of each player in the current main stage game. You can see each player demonstrating their monster APM with the regular commentary still on!
•Player Vision - Qualifier Stage - This stream will be a split screen feed showing the first-person view of each player in the current qualifier stage game!
Wow! This is making me seriously consider paying for IGN Prime. That is a fking brilliant idea!

Did you guys sign up for the promotional spectator passes? Has anyone received theirs yet? The website said there were a limited number, so I'm just wondering if they've run out already.
I signed up for Prime and requested mine but no response yet.
I personally love what u guys have been doing with IPL and the groups management / game planing and so on. I really look forward to seeing how this event will unfold but i know i won't be disappointed!
GLHFGG to all the players in the groups and to u guys at IPL..how everything will go with as little problems as possible
As one of the lucky people in the background that gets to work this amazing event... I keep asking myself as I sit here at my normal job sneaking in a peak at TL.net... Is it time to leave for Atlantic City yet? X_X My level of anticipation for this event is through the frigin roof with every bit of detail that gets revealed! IGN/IPL ftw!
Amazing groups, a bunch of high profile sponsors, and Cesar's Palace. Shit just got real. Can't wait to see how the open bracket plays out and how the setup looks and everything. Could be the biggest bestest SC2 "LAN" tourney to-date.

Check out our brand new IP L3 online store! http://www.ign.com/ipl/store T-shirts and shot glasses are available now. =P
If you buy one now, you will be able to have it shipped in time for the live event!
Are there any other burning questions about IPL 3? We are unable to release a player list for the open qualifier right this moment, but I can tell you that there are many familiar faces from North America, Europe, and Korea attending!

DISCLAIMER WARNING: it's 9AM and i didn't drink coffee yet thus resulting in stupidly long phrases.
Nice move. Swag rlz!
One request tho, i see u guys have the big sized solo IPL logo and the other t-shirts have a smaller sized logo (right near the heart....oooough..youuu) and the p/t/z logos on the back i guess.
My request would be to release a "solo IPL logo t-shirt" with the small sized version. Something like cut p/t/z logos on the back of the second model.
wow greta event and so close to my house, wish it wasn't 21 plus but i understand the casino is making the rules there, well next year ill be old enough in the mean time barcraft boston here i come!

If you're 18-20 you could have always bought a player pass before the cutoff, as even if you lose, you're allowed in the rest of the weekend.
Yeah why the secret about open bracket players? Don't you want to hype up your own event? Counterproductive to hold back the names. MLG releases their open bracket player names.
That's one of my complaints about IPL. They don't really hype up their events well and to the level it deserves. They need to hire incontrol to hype up their stuff!
Added to the original post, concerning ground transportation from Philadelphia airport to the venue:
New Note October 3rd: Rapid Rover, one of the services used to get people from the Philadelphia airport to Caesars Atlantic City, has given us their rates if you'd like to take a group shuttle: + Show Spoiler [Rapid Rover Rates] +
6-7 passengers -- $200.00/van (or $29.60 per person) - add $1.00/person fuel surcharge -not including tip 8-10 passengers -- $250.00/van (or $26.00 per person) -add $1.00/person fuel surcharge -not including tip Less than 6 passengers -- $40.00 per person - add $1.00/person fuel surcharge -not including tip 1-3 passengers -- $120.00 minimum/car - add $1.00/person fuel surcharge -not including tip *NOTE: Rapid Rover will try to group arrivals as much as possible. Please be patient and wait at Ground Transportation as necessary in order to best provide the lowest shuttle rates. Stragglers are responsible for covering the minimum fare if it's just 1, 2, or 3 passengers.
And one think to suggest. Many other events mix up the games from group 1&2, so players don't have to play 2 matches directly after another. (Huk is the lucky guy who doesnt have to)

There's a countdown timer in the top right corner of TL. Serves pretty much the same function. (though I do agree it should be where everybody is used to looking as well).

Seriously guys... Who got the higher seed, group play players or open bracket players?
Dunno how their brackets are going to be set up, whether it is one large one, or multiple small ones.
Basically the top 4 from group play will play the rank 13-16 players from the open bracket. If they do multiple smaller ones (say 4), then it would be the four players who were in 4th.
Group Play vs Open Bracket 1-4 plays 13-16 5-8 plays 9-12 9-12 plays 5-8 13-16 plays 1-4
Depending no who the bottom 4-8 are from open bracket, assuming most of the "pros" get first and second, the top 8 should easily win against the bottom eight. This is the theoretical advantage of taking pools seriously.
How do you determine seeds 1-4 from the group winners when they all play in diff groups with diff opponents? Do you just randomize the group winners to give them a 1-4 rank?

not sure where i read it, but they said that open bracket will only played to top 4 (semi) and they will be seeded randomized against bottom 4 of group stages... and so on
Yep, randomized. =) Open bracket will be played out until top 4 as Derity says, except that it's a double-elimination open bracket, so it's not quite the semi-finals. It'll be easier to see who is in that top 16 as we progress. =)
Question: I'm still planning on subscribing to IGN Prime (if i get my administration in order in time), because i want to see the panels... but it's unlikely i can watch it live, because i'm a Euro, have a job and have to sleep as well. Will there be VODs available for the Prime content? Will i have lifelong acces to VODs that are released during the time that i'm subscribed to IGN Prime or only have acces during that period?
Would be cool, but less important to me: Will there be an easy way to synchronize first person view VODs with the casted VOD of a game?
Are the matches starting in 11 mins? Or is that something else? Edit: oh well now I'm less confused. Thought this was the LR thread but I looked up the wrong forum! teeeerible.

its a match from IPL 2?
Where is your actual IPL 3 content? Is it delayed and coming on soon?
Seriously, you need to stop rebroadcasting stuff so much; especially when we are trying to tune into your big new event!
look in the LR thread buddy. its delayed
Sry for the stupid questions but... What does LR stand for? And where is that thread? XD Sry but Im sooo confused right now and I have no idea where IPL 3 runs now - or when.

Cool its live! The atmosphere is a little bit weird but nonetheless this could become one of the best tournaments ever!! Huk vs Boxer...so hard to decide who to cheer for ;p
Don't know whether this question has been already answered in LR thread, but does anyone know what are the graphic settings the observer here is using?
Gotta love the player cam. I think it'd be better if you could choose which player to watch, though, instead of having a split-screen, which makes the viewing field that much smaller.
In an effort to promote E-SPorts, if you're not watching IPL3 using IGN prime account (for the premium streams) then you're really missing out. Seriously, the premium streams with interviews and First Person Cameras is really, really, professional, and entertaining. just saying, you're not a fan until you experience SC2 like this. I have 3 Streams open 1. Main Spectator 2. First person cameras. 3. Backstage camera. http://www.ign.com/ipl/prime
The best stream interface I've seen thus far. With the built in split screen and ability to easily switch between the streams and access the vods (though they arent uploaded) as well as high quality, it really takes it to the next level for esports.
IPL3 has been awesome for the short amount of time that i'm watching. But i just want to note that the VIP Ceasars stream is extremely laggy and close to unwatchable at the moment (even at 360p). Might be because they are moving around the hotel/casino right now (if that's the case i would rather watch pre-recorded videos/interviews from the tournement floor).
Everything else is amazing and i really hope the theater will be packed this weekend, because got a bit sad when i saw all the empty seats.
How has the event schedule been affected by the delays? Will the finals still take place on Sunday? Will the an abbreviated format be adopted to try to fit the remaining games in the time available?
I have a bit of constructive criticism that I hope you guys will read and hopefully work on, because I really like the IPL.
1. The person(s) observing the game should watch the minimap literally every 2 seconds, as they currently miss a lot of stuff while having the view at unimportant points on the map. It is annoying to me to see a drop on the minimap while the observer seems to be AFK, often having the camera centered somewhere there aren't even any units. Obviously the players will be watching other stuff, but the observer isn't playing the game; he is observing it, and we are forced to watch the game from his point of view.
2. The person(s) observing the game jitter way too much, as if they think they are playing the game themselves. You do not need high APM to observe the game. For instance, in game 3 of White-Ra versus MMA, the observer selected an archon, a zealot, a colossus and then the entire army whilst simultaneously zooming in and out. This entire process took place in about one or two seconds, and the only useful information I got out of it was the unit count. If you select an archon for say, 5 seconds, people will be able to see its upgrades without having to really concentrate so they don't miss it when the archon is selected for .2 seconds. In general, there should be less clicking. You have much to learn from Korean SCBW observers. Watch a few games and see how they calmly select units and buildings, and don't jitter around with the camera.
3. SC 2 has a units/workers killed tab. It annoyed me a great deal that this tab wasn't used even once in the last game between theStC and White-Ra, where theStC killed what I believe was a ridiculous amount of probes, without being able to verify it. Using the units/workers killed tab is good, because it tells the audience a great deal about the flow of the game.
4. From time to time I hear voices that appear to be people talking into the microphone backstage or something like that. I'd appreciate it if you turned off microphones you are not using to communicate with the audience. I might be wrong about this; maybe it's just people from the audience, but this is something that shouldn't happen in any case.
5. You've had some technical issues, but I believe those issues started a long time ago (maybe even up to 12 hours or more), and nowhere can I find any official information about this. The schedule's been thrown off as far as I can tell, but no effort has been made to release a new schedule of today's (Friday) matches.
---
Other than that, keep up the good work. You guys are doing a great job. I know the above five points are pointing out negative aspects of your efforts, but I hope that you will at least reflect upon it before disregarding it.
I'd write about the things you are doing right, but I don't feel like spending the next 12 hours writing a paper about the IPL.

Yes, there are - or rather there should be - however for some reason they are now access code protected. Does anyone know why this is/how to get to them? (Sorry for bumping old thread.)
