I don't get it really how come the foreign community cant just be happy that we got a few new and up coming players no matter where they from.
why would we be jealous we have plenty of high level zergs who have actually proven they can compete on lan and not just ladder.. wats with all the americn hatred on this site nowadays.. Haters : Ok guys, here is how we are going to try to discredite Stephano, we will say in every post were his name is quoted that he needs to play Lan, because, like everyone knows beating koreans and being nearly undefeated online is worthless and means nothing !
Very clean games this week end for stephano in Fxo KOTH and Scan dignitas invitational ( he won both btw ) LAN is the only thing that matters. There is a long standing phrase in ESports, "If it wasn't on LAN it didn't happen". That sums up the relevance of Stephano beating MMA on 400ms at 7am when MMA had stayed up all night, having played the all star game at GSL during the day in a game where both players had already qualified for the tournament in question.
Yes right, online tournaments don't mean shit...... oh wait. Are you seriously saying that online tournaments have no value? Because then Nerchio is a bad player.

It's getting annoying.
IF stephano would beat the likes he beat in the IPL3 qualifier at an MLG or something similar the following would happen:
"The Koreans were Jetlagged". "The Koreans were hungry/the food wasn't ok for the Koreans" "The Koreans had to play so many games!" "The Koreans weren't used to the WTFDOIKNOW." "The Koreans were all ill..."
And even if yous ay only Lan matters... Afaik he has done good in french lans (don't know exactly).
Btw: These Koreans he beat still were good enough to beat basically every other foreigner...

What Naruto said.
How do you think these players got in the LAN tournaments in the first place?
Sure, some tournaments have an open pool, but most of the time they perform well, get noticed in the community and then they get invited to the big tournaments and/or a team.

Also don't forget Homestory Cup. He won against White-Ra, HuK and Jinro there on lan before getting knocked out by ThorZain and MC.

too bad we won't ever see him at an MLG or anywhere near Korea to see just how well he really can do

inb4 Tunisians on this forum (i've seen a few) being fans of his because his parents are from there or something. That random aside aside, well, it's an impressive streak, but until Stephano starts showing he's really got balls of steel, I think it's too early to say he's going to be the next GSL Code S champ (I'm not saying you said that as you did not, but the way some people in this thread are making out this accomplishment, it's like he's "top 3 player in the world"). 2-0 Puzzle, 2-1 MMA is not enough?-_- and 2-1 MKP, also won yesterday scan invite tournament with only 1 loss.

With the major risk of cheating in online play, I must say that a good player only can truly become a champion via LAN. A player that only puts up online results will be able to prove himself at lan.
Sure online results can be impressive, but we can never know how true they are.

He wins everything he plays, basically. But there isn't many french LANs right now, not as big as other countries' anyway.

Oh maybe he should join a team that will pay for his travel to all the big LANs?

while i definitely think he is one of the top 5 foreigners, i just can't see him replicating that success he has had online at a lan quite yet. He needs more big time lan experience. IPL will be huge for him and i hope he does well but i don't see how beating MMA again

Nerchio needs to prove himself on LAN too.
The value of online tournaments, ESPECIALLY online tournaments which are not major like TSL or IPL is massively lower than LAN events for several reasons:
1. Players do not show their best strats and build for $100 tournaments. 2. Some players (often not always Koreans) are playing with a lot of lag. 3. Players are often either waking up in the middle of the night to play, or playing through the night. When Stephano beat MMA he was playing at 7am Korean time having played all night and having played in GSL that same day, while Stephano was playing at about 12pm French time, which is pretty standard/nice times for a gamer. Do you see how perhaps this is not a valuable means by which to ascertain an accurate measure of player skill?

He was destroyed by MC by the way. Completely outclassed, it was a trainwreck of a game for him. MC being the only Code S player other than Huk he has ever played on LAN.

No one says this because Koreans basically always win on LAN. Do you not think it's maybe a little coincidently that a foreigner is far more likely to beat Korean online than at a LAN?

Looks like people still haven't caught on to Blasphemi's spiel hating on pretty much all the non-Korean players while putting the Koreans on a godlike pedestal.
Ignore him and move on, it's better for the thread.

Stephano is a sick awesome player, anyone who has seen him play and looked at the players he beat (both online and offline; repeatedly) should acknowledge his skill. Downplaying him makes you look stupid now, and will make you look even worse in the future when he continues to perform on this level.
Easily one of the best Zerg players in NA or Europe.
|
Ok i get that he has no super major awsome results and I dont advocate the level of fanboyism displayed in this thread, but why is everyone acting like Stephano has never done shit on LAN??? He's been to a ton if you just did some looking around.
These might not be the biggest but:
2nd at Maxlan 1st at French Masters Series Lan 3rd at Assembly Summer (remember sen, huk, nada, morrow, kas, sjow +more couldnt match this) +a few more less notable results from earlier in career.
And he didnt exactly bomb out of IEM even if he didnt do himself justice. He managed to go even in maps in a group with Puma, Mana and Sase

I don't hate non Korean players. I like the players that play the Starcraft I like with a general preference for Zerg because I mostly play Zerg and a bit of Protoss.
My favourite players are Nestea, July, MVP, Sen, Ganzi, Polt, Ryung, MC, Idra.
I just don't love foreigners because they're foreign, I like good players.

This is just sick, seriously, it is more than amazing :o

Well they have some value obviously, but a player who have only performed online will never get the same recognition as someone who performs at LANs, that's just the way it has always been in esports.

Stephano is the next top 1 foreigner.
