Players that are under contract or players that are free agents?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a tradition that came from KeSPA management. Aside from what Nightfall 589 has said, I also would like to say that informing the coaches first does not necessarily mean they are going to deal with just the coaches and not the player. Informing the coaches first can just mean that they would like to notify the coaches that they have interest in Puma and would like to talk to him about a deal.

Interesting to finally hear EG's side. I think all of this could have been avoided in the first place if EG had directly gone to TSL Lee before even mentioning anything to PuMa. Of course this would likely have meant that they wouldn't have been able to secure him but I'm speaking from a purely etiquette point-of-view. In the end I would have to say I'm still as much a fan of the EG organisation as I was before but I'm becoming more wary of the way they can manipulate public perception through the use of OneMoreGame.tv. Thankfully, I'm not an idiot so this whole debacle will have absolutely no effect on how I view their players or continue to support those players in the future.

This would mean a lot more coming from PuMa rather than the EG spokeshole. Thanks for your half of the story and the tldr version.

EG may not be 100% clean in how they did this, but so what?
People are trying to make parallels with pro sports like NHL, MLB , NFL etc.
In the NHL tampering with contracted players in constant. 10 minutes after the free agent signing process is legally allowed to begin NHL "free agents" sign 5 year contracts worth $50 million dollars that include 400 pages of legal-eeze. How can they get all that done in 10 minutes? They cant.
The NHL team works through intermediaries to contact the player while he is still under contract with another team. How do you think Ryan Smith got magically traded back to the only team he really wants to play for ? Easy.. Edmonton and Smith broke tampering rules.
THe core of TSL's anger is they do not have the resources to compete with EG. Tonnes of competitor's can "tamper" with EGs players. They ain't going any where because teams can't afford to outbid EG.
Welcome to the real world.

i'd advise against this approach because then TSL could quickly jam together a contract for Puma and then demand buy out money from EG. EG's approach minimizes their up front cost.
As long as EG has lot's of cash they can spend their way out of any "ill will" they create with their bad manners.
Lee's biggest source of anger comes from the fact he does not have the resources EG has.

been a fan of EG since counterstrike days and I still am. grats on your new player <3

TBH guys stop the hate, and especially Americans should be happy that one of your top team got player like PuMa. GJ EG and good luck.

Sniping players. Isn't EG the reason for Phoenix's fallout with Reign too?

No apoligy to Milkies what so ever.
Also talk to the team before you talk to the player, contract or not.
|
great post overall glad to hear both sides of the story overall however shouldn't there be a way puma can support TSL and EG?
|
The way I see it is, he was on the practice squad and not under contract. So, he was free to go anywhere. If you didn't want PuMa to leave or any player, sign them to a contract and then we wouldn't be having this mess.
What they should do, is sign players to a development contract so that they are under contract. Which allows them to be able to talk to other teams, but they have to go through the coach, to buy out that contract for said development player. Good idea?

Yeah because no one ever speaks with the players directly instead in football ? :O
|
Sorry but aproaching players before contacting his manager is just wrong in my book
Also things like "Both EG and PuMa agreed that the best approach (communication-wise) was for PuMa to speak with Mr. Lee as a *first step*, and then afterwards EG could become involved with Mr. Lee directly." is pure BS. You clearly decided first step is talking to player nad making your offer... it just sucks man

Because they only have one zerg with talent.

I love EG but I cant help but feel like they knew what they were doing when they decided to talk directly to Puma and not to the TSL coach. They wanted puma and did what they had to do to get him. I cant help but feel like because of EG's actions tight contracts are going to become the norm in E-sports. Other teams see this and will do what they have to do to prevent having more players sniped. Still love EG, they have one heck of a team, but they pulled a fast one on TSL.

Im fucking excited for EG for picking up such a good player. I really don't understand all this hate at all. EG was just trying to recruit a good player and this is the way to do it. Stop the hate.

Pretty mutch what I got from the WoC episode, except the timetable of events. It seems as EG wasn't really incontrol (pun intended) of the situation in Korea and some of this was due to things "lost in translation" and reaction from a coach with a team in trouble (according to the later interview with Coach Lee).
Good luck TSL, EG and Puma, we will see how things work out in the future!

Source, or pure speculation on your part?

I love EG! I will always be a fan!

Agreed, but lets see if Mr. Lee blames Milkis for the translation the EG statement first though..... (!)
