What's the rationale? I though it was just part of the game (bluffing etc.) that you can always talk about your hand. That's the reason everyone is complaining. It's always been a part of the game and is an important strategy for heads up poker. The rationale is essentially that the WSOP tournament admins don't like that aspect of the game and want it out. The mindgames of heads up poker is one of the most exciting parts, it's a shame they cut it out. What don't they like? They don't like that you can talk your opponent into making certain moves. Don't understand the rule, it's dumb. I don't think that was always the rule. I believe it was because of Jamie gold and his " I told you I had top top" line. It really looked like they were colluding. So they changed the rule
New rule is disappointing. I loved that year Jamie won. It was entertaining.

he hit the flush on the river

They will be playing 4 or 5 blind levels, based on the tourney admin's descresion. Each blind level is 2 hours, dinner break is 2 hours, and they started at 3 pm EST, so they will be playing until 1 am or 3 am EST.

KQo vs Q4s on 10JKA board
Q4 wins by hitting flush on the river.

The US considers it "gambling", yet someone has won this championship two times, so obviously SKILL is the contributing factor here. But isn't luck of the draw a small part of it as well, similar to Starcraft where you might scout properly yet skill miss something important due to bad luck?
Would you say it's 95% skill 5% luck, or is luck more important? I'll repeat Day9's joke about this: "You don't go in for the final attack against your opponent to see they suddenly have a dozen broodlords and all you can say is 'That's Starcraft!' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
Not even a good analogy.
It's like finding out your opponent had a hidden expansion the whole time and they crush your attack
Or you attack and you don't see them dropping your min lines while flanking your main army and get demolished.

Would you say it's 95% skill 5% luck, or is luck more important? I couldn't begin to give you a percentage but I think Poker is a game of probabilities and percentages more so than luck. Phil Helmuth has 11 bracelets with 45 final tables appearances. That's not luck.
This is an accurate description. Poker is a game based around your ability to keep track and calculate probabilities, and use that knowledge to make the appropriate decision. There is no small amount of luck involved, but someone who knows what he is doing with regards to the statistics will have a huge edge.

Who is the clueless commentator? :D What is a 3-bet or float? lol.

The commentator isn't clueless, he's just feeding questions for the noobs at home who like to watch poker

I'm not sure if he's doing it on purpose or not but I think its awesome for people like me who don't take poker seriously. I had no idea what float meant. Very helpful to have him have Esfandiari clarify some of these more obscure terms.

In starcraft, the luck aspect comes from the fact that anyone can beat anyone on a good day/ bad day. There is a lot of volatility... But nearly all the time, in a Bo3, the better player wins. In starcraft, you can choose to flip coins and win a few of them. In poker, you only flip coins but the coins are rigged based on how skilled you are, meaning with mroe skill equals greater chance of success, just not guaranteed success.

Not really, b/c until you get rivered in poker, you are actually that far ahead. If they have a hidden base or something, you're not really ahead at all. Poker takes skill, but luck has a far larger role in it than in starcraft. For example, I could never beat MC, but even against Doyle Brunson I could knock him out on a 2 outer.

This is kinda boring without the cards shown. I guess it would be cool if I knew enough to guess hands but... I don't.

910JK board, not 10JKA, which is why the guy had to hesitate a little before calling (he would be behind against AQ)

Most likely not. He has 200k under average. He doubled up once already.

im curious why kiwi plays sc2 , it costs 10 000 just to enter this poker event while mlg has its top prize as 5000...............
if i was in his position i'd be playing poker full time, if he plays sc2 purely for passion thats amazing.

Short term poker is gambling with a lot of luck, so are these Main Events, you will never play enough of MEs to even out the variance.
