It's group A vs group D and group B vs group C right? We might see father vs son...

I'd agree with this, but if he only had his points from Columbus, he'd be in the open bracket (cause he didnt compete in Dallas).
Also there was probably not a guaruntee he was coming back anyways, so giving him points might have been pointless.

You are wrong here, actually. Think about HuK, at least.

HuK competed in Dallas, and he placed 10th. He didn't go to Columbus. He still can come to Anaheim, ranked 21st in points.

MMA did not compete in Dallas, but he placed first in Columbus. Unless the MLG point system is completely messed up (it's not), MMA would be ahead of HuK. He would easily get a seed.

Anyways, MMA was the 3rd highest seed, behind Naniwa and Idra.

Also Liquipedia has the same rankings here:http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Rankings

According to this post by Xerix, MMA is #3 seed, which would change the groups thus:

Group A:
Naniwa
EGiNcontrol
Liquid'Haypro
Sheth

Group B:
Idra1
Liquid'Ret
Liquid'TLO
Drewbie

Group C:
MMA
SeleCt
SjoW
Machine

Group D:
Slush450
Kiwikaki
Socke
FXOmoonan

Even though MMA would still be in the same group, it would shift the brackets a bit. Most noticeably Liquid team-kill and bumping HuK out of Group play, he'd have to crawl through the open bracket

As far as the other Korean-dedicated slot, they could seed another Korean into Group A, instead of forcing them to qualify through the opens.

This is based off of Xeris' information being spot-on, which there was no official word from MLG what the exact seed points are going into MLG Anaheim.

Edit: Added Liquipedia link, thanks to Bladgrim for finding that one!

I'm not sure about that. I lean towards disagreeing with you, but that's just based on instinct. They could invite him, yet still give him a seed. I don't see any reason that would not be an option.

MMA is not considered the #3 seed b/c he is attending as a GSL invite. If he took the #3 seed, then he would have to pay for his flight/hotel. MLG only pays for invites (invites are considered the last 4 seeds in pool play). If MMA didn't get an invite, he might not even show up to the tournament (like MC and Losira declined, even though they could have been in the pool). MLG gave MMA the invite b/c the winner deserves to defend his title.

Also note that the pools are permanent. If for some reason MC, Losira, Thorzain, etc... change their minds and attend MLG Anaheim, they will not be given their spot in the pool. They would have to play in the open bracket.

Poor BoxeR.

Poor Boxer is gonna take first in his group, which is one of the easier ones. Only player I see taking multiple games off him is Idra but even then, no one cheeses like Boxer and no one tilts harder than Idra. Boxer also took down Idra 2-0 at the end of the NASL, one game of cheese and one game of standard play.

Boxer as 1, Idra as 2 in Pool B.

I agree.

Also noteworthy, is that in the NASL, Boxer defeated Idra while playing from Korea. I'd be surprised to see Idra take a game off Boxer without a latency advantage.

I don't see DRG just rolling over Huk and Naniwa in group A.

THE DONG coming to the States! Watch out Group A!

Like others, I foresee another Korean top 3. If HuK or NaNiwa goes on a tear, they might be able to pull it off, but I doubt it.

Regardless, I'm excited as hell for DRG to come play.

Totally agree with this. Complete waste of points, such a pity... -.-
If he had used his points, Alicia or Ganzi could be in the pool play

Yeah, I know--I was just wondering why it was they didn't give him the #3 seed.

Other people think it's because MLG wouldn't have sponsored his trip otherwise... I'll ask in other threads, as well. Cheers

Not really, two Slayers player get their trip paid from their sponsors.
MMA could be one of them, and then either Alicia or Ganzi could be seeded.

Pool A is so stacked. You wouldn't believe Naniwa was the number 1 seed by looking at it. I went for the Sheth in his group and the Koreans in the others. But I sort of regret choosing Sheth because Boxer will probably proxy rax him and win.

Group A is deffo the group of death but to be quite honest others don't trail behind by much.
A good balance of powers i would say.
