Why are you guys scared/dissapointed about EU/RU merging? Believe me, there are plenty of dickheads in every region, as well as a huge portion of really nice people.
As for the lag issues, I play on both european and russian servers and I notice zero latency changes. Most of the russian ISPs work perfectly well with european segment so please don't worry about this lag stereotype.

Im not fussed at all with the EU/RU merge. Yes there were some lag issues sometimes but Russians were quite good mannered in iccup so thats fine.

Aren't EU and RU servers hosted in the same data-center anyway?

Why didn't they just leave LA and RU where they were? Both of those regions are notorious for lag issues and cheating. All of the good players who were good to have on NA/EU had already bought accounts there.

edit: Gonna assume that this is intended to cut costs of server maintenence. There is probably a lot of overhead with keeping a server running, regardless of how many people are using it, and EU/NA/KR probably had the capacity to continue running just fine despite the increased population.

I'm also hoping that they are making some level of upgrades to their server software/hardware to give them the confidence.

This is just pure ignorance and racism, LA is no where near to have more lag than NA nor they have that reputation, just so you know, LA and NA share the same servers, and your assumption is wrong, LA has been begging for the linking from the very first month of SC2.

I've played LA players in many different games and there has always been a problem with lag. A lot of LA players also bm but I have met a handful that are cool. I personally am not excited about having LA players on the NA server.

And don't just say someone is racist whenever you read something you don't like from someone you assume is white. He didn't say anything racist, he just pointed out problems that we've had in other games from LA and RU players.

I'm a little confused at the vast amount of assumptions that seem to be thrown around in this thread. Some are saying lack of regional players are leading to the merger, and while that may be the case in some situations, I don't think there's a smaller amount of players playing Starcraft now than when started. SC2ranks has over 3,000,000 people ranked in Season 2, which if I recall is actually a larger number than Season 1. I could be wrong, though. Are there figures to back up these statements?

According to SC2 ranks, these are the number of ranked players per region, something I think is rather interesting. There's a lot more players in most regions than I think a lot of people in this thread are aware of, especially RU.

CN: 252,064
RU: 104,144
TW: 146,464
SEA: 134,515
EU: 865,572
KR: 519,378
NA: 1,102,948
LA: 56,862
Total: 3,181,947

It seems to me that Blizzard's FAQ answer to why the linking is taking place is legit, just to create more match making opportunities, and not to compensate for a dwindling amount of players, as some of the posters have eluded to.

Would've preferred being able to hop around from region to region, not region merging. :\

If there is no additional lag, and there is the ability to merge servers like this with no repercussions, they should make regions based on language, then have 1 main server for everyone to play on with a top level competitive attitude.
English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Russian servers (merge TW and CN for Chinese), then 1 global server for everyone. Awesomeness!

It's worth noting that another possible reason for the "region link" is that the player league distribution on the smaller servers was pretty messed up. When they adjusted MMR boundaries for each region in order to compensate for the low retention and activity rate of Bronze, they did NA first and over time we saw the size of Bronze on SC2Ranks drop from 40% down to now 27%. They used a similar per-region compensation method for the other servers and it was successful on most of them, but not for RU, TW, and LA. The activity level on those very small servers may not be enough for adjustments to have any impact.

There were some other problems, too. A major complaint from the LA community when GM league was announced was that GM league was going to end up being larger than Master league, which ended up being true. This led to some Diamond players being undeservedly promoted to Master and then to Grandmaster which completely threw off the integrity of the GM rankings because players weren't able to keep their MMR in the expected Grandmaster zone. The effect of this was players couldn't spend their bonus pool and new GM players were rotated in every so often, but those new players had the same problems and GM league became a revolving door for weeks before Blizzard hacked in a solution and changed the GM offset.

I just got word from Blizzard that they will refund anyone who has both NA and LA on there LA account (maybe NA depends on which you ask for but I did it for LA), which is to say you aren't losing anything by the process of converting both servers into one. This was a huge relief for me since I figured I was screwed although I did ask originally for it to just be swapped to SEA but they would only give me a full refund which can take up to a week for approval and transfer of funds. So I'm not upset about all this anymore! ^^

When someone bms me in english, I bm him in spanish fur die lulz. I do not understand the complaints of some players.

The fact is that NA/LA servers are now located in the same datacenter, and if they are merged properly by Blizz IT guys, there should not be any lag issues. If you don't like playing with non-english speakers, well go fuck yourselves and welcome to the XXIst century.
People is diying.

If that is true, I hope that it is optional. I want BOTH my accounts; one of them was a Blizzard gift anyways(hail Twitter promotions :D), so I don't want any refund, I want my Terran-only account D:
