Still cool to see though Lol what? You think only 3 percent of the unique viewers watched SC2? I'd be shocked if that was the case.
Well most SC2 tournaments turn up around 50 - 70K viewers overall, and dreamhack had constant count of around that for most of the time, it's hard to believe that it would have any more than twice that amount in unique views. I'm just saying, if more than 150K people actually watched more than a full series/couple games at dreamhack for sc2, I would be surprised.

3 million viewers is where business with a global market gets REALLY interested in screentime as player/team sponsors.. Pretty strong numbers coming out of Dreamhack now :o
E-sports fighting!

the global esports-community is extremely huge...im not really surprised!

SO many people. I really hope that these numbers will soon be outdated and we can keep getting this higher and higher. Go Starcraft!!

So you think MLG had more unique SC2 viewers than Dreamhack? Because they had something like 450k unique viewers over all three games, and I would be shocked if SC2 didn't bring in more than 1/3rd of that number.

time for g4 tech to broadcast tournaments

The official stats will come next week what I've heard but I can without a doubt say that your analysis is pretty much wrong. SC2 at DreamHack when you combine the streams peaked at over 100 000 Unique Viewers. + The final was broadcasted on SVT Play online.
It has already been confirmed that LoL had about 1.6-1.7 Million UV during the tournament and the rest of the games had what I've heard pretty much the same amount total. It's not a wild guess that SC2 has a huge portion of that viewership.
And also - what I and everyone else talk about is Unique Viewers and that does not take amount of time into consideration.
What I've heard the stats will be released next week - so if you don't believe me you can always wait for the official stats :D.

Wow that's sick :D Yay for e-sports.

Nice!! We can only hope for it to continue for many a years to come :D

Have SVT published any streaming stats?

How do you measure Unique Viewers? because if it is by the ip (I have a dinamic one), then I have been counted as a "unique" 20 times.

To get the number of unique viewers they count IP addresses. It's not perfect as you mentioned since some people might have dynamic addresses but this is kind of negated by people watching the stream together.
Other things that might have bigger effect on the number is how they add the numbers from the different streams.
a) Do they count the unique viewers of all streams together? I would have been counted as 1 viewer
b) Do they count the unique viewers from each stream separately and then add them up? I would have been counted as ~10 viewers since I checked out most of the streams for a little while.
c) Do they count the unique viewers from OWN3D and Justin.tv separately and then add them up? I would have been counted as 2 viewers since I opened up the LoL stream for 30 seconds to watch what all the fuss was about.

Really really good overview. i think sponsors really like those numbers and attention

I can't quite load this up, is it supposed to be a download?

Wow, after reading that PDF.... SC2 Prize totals TRUMPED all the other games. That's awesome!
|
What amazes me is the amount of data that was streamed when there were nearly 50k viewers or so. Just the capability to stream how many gigabytes of video per second?
What sort of hardware / connection is needed for that? How much does it cost, who provides it. etc
|
Damn, that pdf confirms the 1.7 unique viewers for League of Legends alone. No wonder, with those numbers maybe MLG's viewership wont look as little next to Dreamhack.
