Here are 4 methods to modify your creep graphic. All 4 methods gives difference results, some of those methods gives same result, but with different ways to do it.
================================================= SC1 "bricks" spread animation + static creep + simply lighting in game
Just open your variables.txt and edit next parameters:
preBlendedCreep=0 change to 1 hdr=1 change to 0 creepnormalmap=1 change to 0
Without changing "hdr" parameter creep will be little... weird and very brightness with light on it. So if you will turn "hdr" off, light on creep will be not that annoying. ALso, with that game will be little darker, there are no more "bloom" and "shiny" effect, with that, default background in game menu (with flying Battlecruiser) will be lighter.
Now we have more static creep with not strong light reflections on it, and game now is slighty darker and more clear. This creep is very similar to SC1 creep and WC3 undead "creep" in animation terms.
================================================= SC2 smooth spread animation + animated creep + sharper creep at the endNot work with static creep modification!![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/StR4zl.jpg)
I think, it makes creep more realistic. Now it's less smooth at the ending of creep territory. To make creep, like this, simply edit ONE parameter.
creeptrans=1 change to 0

================================================= Ultra graphic settings + Static creep + SC1 "bricks" animation![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/WOShGl.jpg)
1) Download this file and put to next folder: \ StarCraft II \ Mods \ LibertyMulti.SC2Mod \ ..here..
2) Open variables.txt and edit next parameters: creepnormalmap=1 change to 0 preBlendedCreep=0 change to 1
Explanation of this method: - you're downloading file with simply fix for creep normal map. I reduce the brightness of the glare from the light, so on static creep it looks less annoying and a bit darker - "creepnormalmap" is a parameter, that creates a mountainous effect on static creep. Turning it off makes creep more clear
================================================= Ultra graphic settings + Static creep + SC2 smooth animation![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/aAJtAl.jpg)
Easiest method to get static creep with smooth SC2 creep-spread animation. You must edit ONE parameter in variables.txt:
creepnormalmap=1 change to 0
This method also compatible with sharper creep (description above). If you want to make creep ending more sharper and less smooth, change next parameter:
creeptrans=1 to 0

that is pretty awesome!

i like the current method but variety is also pretty awesome!

Since you are just editing variables.txt it is not against the TOS right?

Nope, they even told us to when SC2 was frying all our cards!!

What does Terry mean? Cool looking though.

i think he means teary, like it is tearing.

I whish creep colour was more beige. I think it would look more disgusting that way and for me, thats what creep should be.

i think it's supposed to be terry as in the texture of terrycloth

i've been using this ever since i found out about variables.txt just to spot observers and other cloaked units, very useful

i think it's supposed to be terry as in the texture of terrycloth this. But I've deleted this word, because "shaggy" is enought to explain new creep style
|
Interesting but I like it the way it is right now more tbh
|
Hmm i think i just got too used to the new creep, its good as is

Someone should figure out how to change zerg's creep to green
|
Honestly, the default high quality creep is the main reason I play on high graphic settings in the first place. My beautiful, beautiful creep. My precious.
|
Definitely a lot cooler O:
|
Neat little trick, does look cooler
|
Wow this is sick haha, does the hdr parameter change anything else?
I wonder what other goodies can be changed in variables to make stuff cooler :D.
|
looks like the ends of beef jerky
|
TOS?
Anyway it doesn't matter because I play toss. This does look cool though. Good job

Someone should figure out how to change zerg's creep to green It's possible with adding new created MPQ with specific name and some files, that will overrite original files, but not replace them. It's all about "changing game files without editing MPQ". You can find it on this forum.

I can't see the difference

Pretty cool.
Although it says in Blizz TOS that it is illegal to change MPQ files, I don't know if it mentions anything else
I'm not going to do it because I'm a careful person, but seems pretty cool :D

This is not against the TOS.
This is just changing graphical settings.

Well, someone cant understand something. I'll explain again.
1) Adding MPQ with new files, that contains green (or pink, or red, or dark, or purple, etc) color, theoretically is against TOS. Because you did some change of official game client.
But you're not editing any original MPQ. You're just adding new, that you created by your hands and your files.
Is there are any word about adding files to SC2 folder? Is there any advatange for you in achievements/ladder/customs/campaign/challenges? Is there modified original MPQ-files? One answer - no.
2) Editing Variables.txt isn't against TOS. I'll say more. Blizzard recommended edit this file, when some peoples had problems with videocards. And this file is in your Documents, not in SC2 folder.

the hdr part is nothing new for us playing at low settings I do how ever like the visual style of the nonbleded creep, very interesting, will play around with that for sure.
|
Actually now when looking at it, there is nothing new to this at all, this is just what creep looks like on low shaders. that's all....
|
Yea I already had these settings in the variables.txt so its just low graphics settings.

2) Try to find SC1-creep in SC2 with normal graphic, without annoying reflections on creep and plus without any animation, but with all maxed out graphic (instead lowering it to LOW).
This is a hybrid of Low and Ultra settings. 80% is Ultra, other part is for SC1-styled creep.
Also, different creep ending isnt allowed in any option, because it's a part of options group: Terrain. Turn terrain LOW - there will be cheaper special effects for other things. But I've changed only creep and nothing more (also HDR too for less reflections on creep)
this is just what creep looks like on low shaders You're wrong. Turn all options to LOW. Now you got cheap graphic, worse trees, ugly shadows, etc. And creep without any slighty reflections on it.
|
sadly I am playing with the lowest graphics for the ultra smoothness... I honestly think we will get more graphic options to tweak around when HotS comes out
like editing the colour, adding some symbols on creep like "LOLOLOLOL"
that would be so awesome

But why would you wanna have bad looking creep when you run ultra for the nice graphics? You state you dont want the annoying animation and reflections on creep. Yes thats why we others run everything on low :D

This is what made me ponder the question. In low, the creep spreads different over one square, visually anyway. So a better judgement is made as to when you can spread, and where. Which is the variable that would change that particular animation, and make it similar to low?
|
on a related note, do edit your variables.txt, there are guidelines on tl.net and on google.
i set my game video setting to ultra with 3d model turned off to have halo(lined) pylon field instead of filled up(blue field) pylon energy field.
i edited variables.txt with recommended tweaks for improved performance while not lowering too much detail.
my fps doubled with hardly any visual difference.

Yes thats why we others run everything on low :D They run game on low only because they possibly don't know about editing specific parameters.
it's like "I want 2D portrait, but to get that, I must change all settings to low to get 2D portrait", when you can get 3D or 2D portrait with changing only ONE parameter. Same here. What if I like bloom and special effects on zerg buildings, xel'naga towers, etc, but I want different creep and at same time all doodads like trees, world decorations, etc in good quality?

cool stuff, gotten used to how it looks "naturally" though

Well, static creep gives advatange to Zerg players over protoss, because without those creep animations it's a lot easier to find Observer.

The creep still creeps me out :D

The creep still creeps me out :D I very like creep animation in SC2. It looks really, like a life form, that supports zergs.

3rd method of having "Ultra graphic settings + Static creep + SC1 "bricks" animation" not works now.
You need install it directly into game archive, like enGB.sc2assets, located in Liberty.SC2Assets folder.
