We previously announced that Thorzain and Naniwa would be heading to Korea to compete in Code A as part of the MLG/GSL League Exchange Program. Today, we are very happy to announce that they will be joined by Fnatic.Fenix, our third qualifying player. Fenix will be competing in GSL Code A August and will also be participating in the August GSTL as a part of Korean pro team WeMadeFox, alongside Naniwa and Thorzain. It's an incredible lineup, and we can't wait to see how they do.
Thanks once again to GOMtv and to the GSL for helping make the League Exchange possible. We'd like to wish the best of luck to Fenix, Naniwa and Thorzain; tune in to the GSL and GSTL in August to cheer them on!

Will he be playing on the F.United Roster?
IE should we add him to Fantasy GSTL?

I am confuse :D what was the sheth thing about then?
|
Yup we got got trolled by John and Torch, it was Fenix not Sheth....
|
So where did Fenix place in MLG? Just wondering how many people turned it down.
Otherwise very cool!
|
Nice!
4 Code A spots! Sweet!
|
I think sheth qualified straight up?

he placed pretty high coming from open bracket, which is an incredible run.
|
offtopic: did fenix say anything about his NASL playoff walkover?
|
Sheth is still in though, it says Fenix will be in GSL Code A August...Sheth is in July (at least that's what I'm reading from this).
And no, Sheth didn't get in through qualifiers.
|
good luck in Korea

nope. he didnt get to korea until after code a qualifiers. im guessing because there was no code s spot then they just had 4 code a spots.

sweet love Fenix so happy for him

August Code A finna be crazy.
|
Who said that thorzain, naniwa would stay to August in korea... or is this a wrong typo?
|
I guess sase not playing in GSL this month opened up a spot. Nice to see more non-Korean players competing in the GSL and I hope they all do well.
|
I was so hyped for this GSTL and now I can't wait for the August GSTL! Foreigners invading Korea ftw~
|
He is going to get completely smashed most likely.

looking forward to august code A! gonna be baller,

July Code A is crazy enough already. This is going to be ludicrous

Sheth got a code A spot for the GSL July actually. These code A spots are for August.
|
Sweet, I was hoping it was Fenix, he is an excellent player, I hope he does well.
|
Can someone please explain how Thorzain, Naniwa, Sheth and Fenix have all qualified for Code A? And why has Sheth qualified for a different month's Code A?
|
On June 23 2011 02:57 Lutto wrote: Who said that thorzain, naniwa would stay to August in korea... or is this a wrong typo? The exchange program has always been for these three to play in GSL Code A August.
Best of luck to fenix and hopefully you can find consistency in your play to dominate!!!

Fenix is a late edition to the Fantasy GSTL his point should be 1 instead of 3... its so hard to fit him into my team roster T_T

MLG exchange program 3 qualified players will go to GSL August code A as well as participate for GSTL.
Sheth no idea...
|
Sweet Sheth gets a spot as well as Fenix? Nice. I hope Fenix plays well over there, he can be a scary player. Good luck Fenix!
|
So what is the official word on Sheth if Fenix accepted a August Code A? This seems very disorganized how the information is coming out. This means that 4 people from MLG Columbus will be in the GSL in some way.
Great for the foreigner scene, but I'm a bit confused here..
edit: ah ok MLGLee's tweet clarified it. So exactly how did Sheth go about getting this invite to Code A where as the rest of FXO had to try to qualify?
|
Great news for Fenix! Good luck
|
4 foreigners + Jinro in Code A is going to be amazing!
|
|
Wow congrats to Fenix, he is an awesome player :D

Looking from brackets, Fenix beat Sheth there and then got beaten by Slush so Fenix placed higher than Sheth, right? 11. Fenix 14. Sheth from liquipedia
|
Go Fenix !!! I'm rooting for my favourite foreign terran Fenix is an amazing player, his strongest opponent is clearly himself. Keep strong and solid ! I believe
|
Congrats to Fenix. He's been under performing imo, hopefully he can do some damage in the league.
GL!
|
wow gonna be very exciting code A season! Can't wait .
Congrats to Fenix!
|
Did Sheth qualify through MLG?
EDIT: re-read the thread and it appears he just inexplicably was invited by GSL. Does anyone know how this works?
|
Nothing against foreigners getting code A spots, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. But it is kinda effed up that DRG is still stuck in code B after losing to Hero who's probably good enough to win MLG while foreigners keep getting Code A slots. Koreans with code A/S skill who get bad draws need love too -_-
|
Fenix, ThorZaIN, NaNiwa and SaSe all in the GSL August Code A qualifiers! So looking forward to that!! Just imagine some of the best SC2 players (DRG, theStC, Puzzle/MMA, etc) vying for only 12 spots. That would be intense.
|
What's happening with SaSe, is he still going to Korea and if so, when?
|
so sheth got a code-a invite for...nothing? confused :s
|
Would love to know how Sheth got into Code A, if GOM are still doing their 'free spots for foreigners' thing then how come the rest of FXO had to take part in qualifiers?
|
Hmm if I had to guess I'd imagine that GSL told FXO they could seed their best player in Code A since they were coming as a team for GSTL, since there's no other given explanation.
Edit: Oh and congratulations to Fenix!
|
Can't beleive so many foreignrs will be in Code A! With even more coming after Anaheim I guess GSL really has a become a "Global League".
|
Ok...looking closer he's going to be in August Coda A / GSTL...not July.
So I don't think he should be in Fantasy GSTL since he isn't playing this season...

They have always invited foreginers to code A, and since Sheth is 1000 time better then everybody else on FXO, and he is incredibly popular... I guess that is why

Code A spots giveaway from the MLG ranking are great. But to give them like that to random foreigners does sound very unfair to those who have to go through the qualifiers, Imho.
|
Fenix hwaiting!!!
Awesome aggressive style, I hope he practices his heart out on the Korean Ladder!
|
Grats Fenix.
The next few GSL's are going to be an excellent watch.
|
Really nice! He really deserves it!
Fenix has been a beast lately, I can't wait to see how he'll perform in GSL / GSTL!
Foreigners HWAITING!!!
|
Won't Koreans be annoyed that Sheth got an invite to Code A regardless of the exchange program? Isn't qualifying really hard? And isn't injecting invites into a qualification tourney a bit odd?
On the other hand - foreigners in GSL squeeeeee
|
So many foreigners in Korea over the next few months, im not expecting them to win anything or do much but its going to be sick watching them try. My interest in the Korean scene has been raised.

Yes he is. This GSTL overlaps with both GSL July and GSL August. Hence Naniwa and Thorzain is in GSL August

Peru Represent! Best of Luck Fenix. I think your aggresive play is going to fare well in Korea!
|
Exactly, if you look at the schedule it has all of FXO's games in the first half of GSTL and all of F. United's games in the second half of GSTL. I suppose this is so that if they don't make the playoffs then they do not have to stay in Korea a whole 3 months if they do not want to. I like it myself. Should be great seeing all these foreigners in the upcoming months... starting with the FXO/Startale match tonight, no?

I'm afraid to see Fenix in code A. His style is very aggressive and i think his style will be punished pretty hard in Korea. He makes for some exciting games so I hope he makes it at least top ro16.

They've did it in GSL March with Haypro, Huk, Ret, and Moonglade. However, I do find it kind of odd to continue this since we already have MLG/GSL exchange programs.
|

To the many people questioning Sheth's free invite: Have you forgotten the second(?) Code A tournament where they did the same thing for Huk, Ret, Haypro and Moonglade? This is the same thing but for fewer people. Realistically, the GSL just wants foreigners playing, and several factors made this the obvious choice.
Namely, the exchange program with MLG won't be seeding in MLG invites until the next tournament, Sheth is one of the best foreigners currently playing in Korea easily, is likely to be the FXO ace in the coming GSTL(making him a point of interest), and couldn't participate in qualifiers due to scheduling conflicts. It just kinda all worked out in such a way that inviting Sheth is the best way for the GSL to bring in another foreigner, in a season that's a little light on them.
In other news, GL Fenix! Definitely a very capable player, has a decent shot at actually performing well in the GSL.
|
so FOXMOONS gonna win this GSTL!
|
gom has said before that code a seeds will be given to people placing good in foreign tourneys, thats why sheth got invited.
|
Cool news. I'm a Fenix fan.

Cool, I love Fenix. He's seemed a bit out of shape lately though. Hopefully this will get him right back into it.
|
Quite sad that an under-deserving player like Sheth gets a free ride into Code A. Oh well, best of luck to him.
|
Wait, why isn't SaSe going to Korea? imo he is in much better form than Fenix right now. Fenix is a good player but lacks consistency. Good luck to Sheth too I guess? I do feel bad for DongRaeGu though, but I have seen some of the other koreans that have qualified for Code A this season play and they are not too crash hot so it's not like we can blame the foreigners for taking legit qualifier spots when I feel that they can outperform at least a few of the koreans that qualified.

Really excited that F. United got a 6th member... it'd probably suck a lot for them if the larger Korean teams were able to prepare a specific sniper for every player.

Let me map it out for you: 3rd spot went to Fenix at rank 11. Sheth at rank 14, just misses it, he will also be in korea. Only other FXO in top 32 I believe was Moonan (#25). GSL thinks Sheth deserves a spot. GSL invites sheth, its their tournament. They dont need to first make sure its okay with random nerds. Also it makes sense.

1. Haypro definitely got an invite directly into Code A once. Didn't go so well. Can't remember if Ret got one... (also HuK got one)
2. Sheth is going to be in Korea at the right time. Couldn't make Code A Qualifiers. Has a huge foreigner following and it's probably a bit of a token gift to FXO for sending their whole team to Korea.

Well, Idra, ret and haypro came back from Korea not long ago, so the only surprise there is Slush.
Good luck Fenix! It's great to finally have someone representing LA.

Awesome more foreigners in Code A can't wait for August!
|
Yeah, considering Sheth might be FXO's best player, it's nice he's in Code A representing.
|
ya wasn't sheth supposed to be the 3rd?
|
I still don't understand why only August I wanted to see them in June ((((
|
wow Fénix Gratz Perú HWAITING xD. Tell Artosis to take you on a tour to korean pro-houses.
|
SaSe not going to Korea then?

I sat there for around 15 seconds before the enormity of this decision dawned on me, and i couldnt be happier. Fenix is an outstanding player and like naniwa and thorzain im delighted he is playing in korea.

Yeah 1 Code S and 4 Code A's is what they announced,
Not sure if MMA got Code S from it, but Thorzain, Sheth, Naniwa and Fenix are the A's

I think it's 4 Code A spots from MLG Columbus, and 1 Code S, 4 Code A spots for the future MLGs.

Sheth's spot wasn't from MLG.

Awesome news. Go go Fenix!
|
whaa, didn't see this one coming, more great news !

So many question yet so many easy answer.
Lets break it down for you guys,
SASE - Going to korea trought (win road to korea tournament over Naniwa)
Naniwa - Thorzain - Fenix (MLG Columbus top 3 Foreigner that ACCEPTED the invite, we can say that Idra, Haypro, Ret and Slush declined wich make sense since they already said they would do so beside Slush who did not say a word about that subject)
Sheth - Will be in Korea to participate in the GSTL for FXO, I dont know the exact deal that was made but looking at GSL effort to bring non korean into the tournament, and looking at FXO effort to get their team to participate in the GSTL, a deal could have been made.
Their you go
|
Fenix will be the first latino to compete in a top SC2 tournament (by top I mean major Korean).
Go fenix!
|
We know Sheth couldn't attend the qualifiers on the 19th, so maybe because of that?

Also, then how did Sheth get in? Through the BYOC in dreamhack or something?
Edit:
I say F stands for Fuck, because it's just such a versatile word xD 1. Haypro definitely got an invite directly into Code A once. Didn't go so well. Can't remember if Ret got one... (also HuK got one) 2. Sheth is going to be in Korea at the right time. Couldn't make Code A Qualifiers. Has a huge foreigner following and it's probably a bit of a token gift to FXO for sending their whole team to Korea. Ret, Huk, Haypro, and Moonglade all got Code A invites into the GSL March Code A tournament. Haypro lost to Ganzi, and Ret lost to MMA. Considering how Ganzi and MMA are pretty good nowadays, it's unfortunate that Haypro and Ret left Korea before showing better results.
Anyways, it's interesting to see GSL still having direct foreigner invites, especially in this Sheth case. It is unfortunate that he must play against San during the first round.
Anyways, I hope Sheth survives Code A so that we can get at least 4 foreigners in GSL August.
|
So Naniwa ,Thorzain , Fenix and Sase in code a August? This is SICK!
|
Sheth is in GSL July's Code A
Fenix, Sase, Naniwa, Thorzain are in Code A for August
Naniwa/Thorzain/Fenix are the 3 from MLG, Sase is from Rode to Korea, sheth probably just because they wanted a foreigner in july as well?
|
Wow!! Fenix!! This is awesome!! More non-koreans finally!! This GSL -> MLG and MLG -> GSL exchange program is just awesome!!
|
AWESOME! Huge congrats to Fenix!
|
Wow, those status are nice to see all right there... Will make my fantasy picks tonight easier to work with :D
|
DRG,StC and so many top koreans who haven't gotten code a spots will be jealous. :o

Awesome for Fenix! GSL and GSTL is going to be so awesome to watch, hope both Sheth and Jinro at least stay in Code a so we can have more then just 1-2 in the same season!

Thanks
mpupu answered what i was looking for though, didn't know that Haypro and Ret came back from Korea. So I guess Slush turned it down?
@eviltomahawk
Oh, i forgot they were invited instead of qualified. Yeah, that sucks that Ret and Haypro got MMA and Ganzi, rofl. Since MMA and Ganzi were pretty unknown at the time, it probably discouraged them a lot more than otherwise.

Impressive player who seems to be taking big steps forward in his play. Good luck!
|
how do you think these guys do? i only really see naniwa winning a round in code a. or is that just my korean bias?
|
That's a nice 3rd player to pick up for the MLG/GSL exchange - best of luck to Fenix!
|
wow great news seeing more americans getting exposure in GSL. would be amazing if tt1 and gretorp could join him

On June 23 2011 06:32 wideye wrote: how do you think these guys do? i only really see naniwa winning a round in code a. or is that just my korean bias?
I guess it depends when they arrive in Korea, the sooner they'll be there the greatest their chances will be. Thorzain and Naniwa at 100% can definitely take down a low code A player in a bo3, Fenix is inconsistent so it would depend of his shape imo, idk for Sase, i'm almost sure he could win a PvP against almost everyone, for both others MU it's probably dependant of its training aswell.
Otherwise, does SaSe got a spot into code A ? The others have invite ok, np, but SaSe may have to go through the quali (couldn't really follow the Road to Korea sry).

Huh ? Fenix is peruvian or ?
Ok nvm for the second part, Peruvians are actually Americans i know.

How does this actually work, I mean do they just throw out some random Korean that is in code A to replace him with a foreigner?

Good luck in Korea, should be an awesome line-up.

Fenix had an amazing MLG run, all the way through the open bracket to like the top 16, definetely deserves this

Sheth got seeded because he couldn't attend the qualifiers, he placed very high and his whole team went to GOM foreigner house for GSTL and Code A qualifiers, so they cut a deal. My theory.
Anyway, gogo Fenix!
|
Wait whaaat? What happened to Sheth????
|
From the looks of it GSL is doing everything they can to bring in the foreigner market - thats why they invited Sheth. They are already paying for him to live there, it makes lots of sense.
As for Fenix - I haven't been a huge fan of his play style but I really have to respect anyone who is willing to drop everything to move to Korea just for a shot to improve his game. He had a nice showing at MLG so I hope he continues the good results.

sheth is in JULY gsl... he qualified via the normal way...
Fenix, Naniwa and Thorzain will be on AUGUST gsl....

All depends who they play and how they handle the pressure on the booth. There's some very scary players lurking around Code A/B, if Dreamhack and MLG taught us anything it's never bet on a foreigner to beat a Korean.

No offense to Fenix, but this is a bit ridiculous that they would just go through the ranking and give Code A spots to anyone that accepts third. Fenix ranked 11th at MLG Columbus afaik... most of the Koreans in the code A qualifier can probably rank higher than that. How is this fair to people like Donraegu, Ganzi, Line, TheSTC, etc etc, whom all are deserving of at least a Code A spot, but because of the brutal qualifier, didn't get through?

EDIT--- not saying a player like Fenix or Huk don't deserve it, because as we see, Huk made it to code S, but this isn't the first time GOM has seeded foreign players who probably wouldn't have made it through the qualifiers. Moonglade, ret, and haypro never won a code A match and didn't have to qualify. In a perfect world where GSL and GOM had infinite money and didn't have to worry about an audience they could have the best players always with epic finals and such, but this is real life :/ On a lighter note, GL to Fenix, Sheth, Nani, and Thorzain in the upcoming GSLs :D!

Congrats to Fenix really.. he doesn't get the hype he deserves, even after having an amazing run in the last MLG -- only Thorzain did a bit better. Being only 18y.o. and living and playing SC2 along Thorzain, Naniwa and others will only make him a better player.

It's just a bit ironic that so many people complain about Koreans getting seeded in MLG when lets be honest, guys like Huk, Thorzain, Naniwa, Sase and the rest might never have made Code A if they weren't seeded a bye through probably the most brutally difficult tournament in Sc2.

Thorzain placed 9th in MLG Columbus, are you gonna include him too in your rant? Or how about this? July managed to get 'only' 13th in the same tournament.. I guess he placed 13th because he's obviously not an actual top player uh? -- your own words.
You don't realize how hard it is to come from the open bracket and place in the top 16 in any MLG as of late pal.. if July barely managed, how do you figure it's a piece of cake for most other lower-rated korean players?

Is has nothing really to do with the open bracket. If July had continued to play run of the mill NA/EU players he'd have continued winning easilly and placed higher, but he met Moon (a good player) and lost. July could have baneling busted random Chobo's all day long just as he did in the open bracket, this is a guy who's practiced Starcraft 10 hours a day for almost a decade and you think he gets burnout?
It's the same for Thorzain, he lost because he played a better player than him in MC, not because he was tired from rolling players a lot worse than him.

And yes, if based on just the MLG results, Thorzain is undeserving either. But he proved himself at TSL3 to be able to at least compete in Code A. What has Fenix proved?
Let me ask you guys this. Would you guys still say that Fenix/Slush deserve the spots if they were ordinary Korean players? Would you guys even watch their games if this was the case? I can definitely say I would not. But for Thorzain's case, I can be sure to at least check out his games because of his previous showings.
They just need a rule in place when giving out free invites. Something like no lower than rank 6th or something.
What would you say if everyone refused the invite and they went all the way down to Gretorp?

So you think players don't get tired after playing 16 hrs for three days in a row? are you talking from experience here or it's just your hunch?
I also think Moon is a good player but I would never bet against July if both players were matched under similar circumstances... that was an upset.. July was expected to go through to top 4 -- after beating Idra and losing to MC.
As for Thorzain, he himself said that he was tired due to the tournament format and would never play again in another MLG -- same as Morrow.

It's always nice to see 'foreigners' going to play with the koreans, i hope fenix does well; improves and prospers in the environment. Exciting as the games can be with the koreans playing i find it more difficult to make a connection with an MC than an Incontrol
|
great to see, will be good for fenix's development and exposure to the korean scene.
go fnatic!
|
rofl he will get crushed. im a huge fan of fnatic and fenix but he's nowhere near the level of thorzain and naniwa let alone Code A...

If you knew the players you'd never consider July losing to Moon in ZvZ an upset, July is terrible in ZvZ. I'm a huge July fan but everytime he plays a ZvZ my hand is in my mouth because chances are he's going home.
July certainly didn't play for 16 hours either, seen as he won all his open bracket games in under two hours.
Perhaps some players get tired, but the players in the main bracket are still at the venue sitting around, I don't see how winning a few rounds against players you can beat in your sleep is that taxing, it's was essentially a warm up for all of them before the championship pool, with Morrow/Fenix unfortunately having to share a spot.

Well, Fenix beat oGsTop and placed third at DH. He's not as popular as Thorzain or Naniwa.. nor Destiny or Tyler heh.. but he is a good player and being only 18, he's far away from peaking, this opportunity for him in Korea is probably what he needed. He deserves the invite as per the rules.. period.
Seriously, I can't count the number of Huk haterz who were saying the same shit about him as you are doing now with other players, only to be proved very wrong last weekend. I guess we'll wait and see.
BTW Gretorp -- who didn't place even top 32 in MLG -- is also a good player and if he'd put enough practice he could probably give good games in code A too.

The fact that you had to bring up an achievement that is from an irrelevant time proves more that Fenix hasn't really done anything worthy of mention.
2) Age is pretty irrelevant. There are a lot of young players that never improves or gets worst over time, and there are a lot of older players that still improved drastically (Nestea). Also, there are quite a lot of the Korean players that are 18 or younger.
3) It doesn't matter what they can theoretically or potentially do in the future. Our point is there are more deserving players right NOW. If Fenix can train hardcore, improve, and get a top 3 non-Korean placing at a future MLG, then sure enough, I'll be the first to congratulate him and be a proud foreigner fan to have him over competing. Just just as Huk wasn't deserving to be in it back then, Fenix definitely doesn't deserve his spot over players like Dongraegu, Ganzi, Line, STC, etc.
4) And @ your Gretorp argument, I guess you can use your argument for any average GM NA players. But point is, you said "if". Same for Fenix; "if" he practices more and improves, then he will be deserving to be sent over, but now is not the time.

I think it is great more non-koreans are moving over into GSL/GSTL. i would prefer to see someone like Select go over, but Naniwa and ThorZain will be great additions. Hopefully Fenix will be a good competitor.
|
More foreigners participating in GSTL, this is most pleasing :D
|
Many people feel sorry for good korean players' code b such as DongRaeGu and Moon. Fenix might get preferential chance. Some think that's not fair.
But my opinion is that koreans have more good enviornments in many respects. though they have to compete in more harsh conditions.
I believe inviting Fenix is a good trying.
If he is not qualified, he should lost Code A and be defeated in GSTL, and then we would criticize the decision.

Sheth won a spot on july Code A, he wasn't invited. He BEAT enough koreans to get that spot. That's SOMETHING; as a Zerg player, no less (I think only 4 zergs qualified into Code A this time).

Sheth wasn't in Korea during the qualifiers.
Which raises the question why did GSL invite him independent of the MLG/GSL LXG

GOM actually brought back their policy of handing out code A seeds to notable foreigners (at their discretion). The current policy is to give code A seeds to 'players who have won notable tournaments' but I'm guessing since they're so happy FXO is participating in the GSTL that GOM felt it would be wise to give FXO a code A spot to its best player (Sheth). Unlike the exchange program through which Naniwa, Thorzain and Fenix are coming, GOM doesn't provide for flight costs or living arrangements so all of Sheth's expenses are taken care of by FXO.

I seriously wonder how the Koreans feel about all these free spots being given away. With all the extremely skilled Korean talent being left behind in Code B I don't see how anything like this is justified, apart from some kind of publicity stunt.
Oh well, GL all the foreigners in GSL: Non-Korean!

gratz to Fenix and all the guys who are going to Korea. May the starcraft Gods smile upon you.

Fenix is definetly not a top tier player if you consider what hes won and from what ive watched he hasnt impressed me. Dont quite think hes ready for korea but good luck to him anyway. Foreigners gogo

You kind of just answered your own question - publicity!
Its good for the GSL to have more foreigners because it increases the viewership. Just the same as MLG / Dreamhack inviting Koreans makes them more interesting to watch.
They gave away a few spots sure, but its a good decision.

gl my hijo ^^! <3 You will do great and I know it. FENIX FIGHTINGGGG!!!!

GL Fenix! I'm sure the all of the foreigners who will compete in Korea will only help them to be a better player.

Yay!
Best of luck to Fenix, I've liked this guy a lot since he rose up near the end of Brood War.

Awesome. I pledge to become an automatic fan of any foreigner that comes to Korea to live the dream.
|
it seems pretty obvious that the deal struck by GSL/FXO involved a free slot into Code A for one of their players. not sure why people seem amazed by this.
|
I got nerd chills just now thinking about the upcoming GSL. (edit, i mean GSL in the future in general).
FXO Naniwa Thorzain Fenix Huk Jinro
Hold me.
And don't fucking get me wrong. If i had to pick a top 5 players, i'm sure 3 or more of them would be Korean and the #1 definitely would be. So don't think i'm all "I LOVE FOREIGNERS LOL". This just adds a whole addtional level of interest, depth, intrigue, manliness. Oh my.

Otherwise, does SaSe got a spot into code A ? The others have invite ok, np, but SaSe may have to go through the quali (couldn't really follow the Road to Korea sry). ThorZaIN took games out of MC in both the TSL and MLG and if it weren't for the extended series bullshit at MLG he could have won against MC, again. MC isn't exactly your average run of the mill Code A/S player.
Now, given proper preparations, I think ThorZaIN can beat 90% of the Code A players. But given the uncertainty of things for Code A august, he might aswell face Polt in his first match -.-;;
Anyway, it'll be fun watching Fenix playing a hugely agressive game versus the Koreans, Bomber had some success with that, no?
GL Fenix.

To get through Code A though you need to be consistant, it's no good beating MC if you can't follow it up with other wins. Code A is pure knockout, single elimination, which certainly isn't too favoured to Thorzain's who has been pretty inconsistant both before and after the TSL.
I think as well that Thorzain's best match by far is versus Protoss, and there's not anywhere near as many Protoss in GSL as in EU. His versus Zerg is a bit of a weakness as well.

Good Luck Fenix, be interested to see how Sase, Fenix, Thorzain, Nani and FXO all do in Code a and the code a qualifiers!!! Hopefully Jinro and HuK will be Code S by then so we dont see foreigners knocking each other out!!!

Nice to see more foreigners in GSL. Good luck guys!!!

Just depends on matchups really....ThorZaiN could get really unlucky and face someone like DongRaeGu in the first round, and his zvt is as strong as any in the world, yet thorzain's TvZ is his worst matchup, even though it's still probably the best TvZ in Europe. Or face some absolute terran Beast like MMA, Ryung or TheStc. SaSe could probably beat a number of Koreans PvP, a matchup he's extremely good at, but as we saw when he played vs Sen, if he gets a zerg he may well struggle unless he finds a solution. So really you have to hope you get a favourable draw, like HuK certainly got They'll need some luck for sure!

I think he can beat almost anyone, if he has time to prepare for the match up. He seems like a very technical player who can win if he prepares. If it is a short notice match, then his chances of winning go way down I think.
Also, I really don't see Fenix doing well at all...

I follow the EU scene very closely actually, and I doubt those 3 have better tvz than him. You don't have to have loads of achievements (not that cloud or happy have any) to notice a player who plays the game at another level to others. But this thread is about Fenix. gogo Fenix!!

Don't forget KawaiiRice too, his TvT is good and his TvP is mediocre, but his TvZ is just amazing. (EDIT: I realize it said EU, not Foreign. My bad lol)
I mean, Ret and July both beat Thorzain, they were great series, to say TZ has the best foreign TvZ is a bit of a stretch right now. Certainly it isn't a serious liability though.

No offense to Fenix, but was there no one better to send over?
Hes a great player, but I don't think hes exactly on level with Naniwa and Thorzain.

Sheth said on SOTG that he didn't want to compete in Code A. He was given a spot anyway since FXO is going for the GSTL but he said specifically it isn't worth it to compete in Code A.

Well, then you are the one who doesn't understand. The MLG program is based on merit, not "who's better". Fenix placed high at MLG. He earned the spot. GSL can't "find better players" because they didn't place high at MLG.
Lol... why is a straightforward rule so difficult for some people.

Maybe because Fenix is not hyped enough? he doesn't talk smack in his interviews. I am pretty sure people wouldn't be talking so much shit if the invitee was Major for example. Nevertheless when I watch Major play against Fenix in the stream Major gets the worst of it 4 out of 5 times...

The guy went through the whole Open Bracket, beat Sheth then lost to SLush in a pretty close series. But nah, he's trash, why do they even bother sending him?

He never struck me as a particularly stand out player, but I guess he was just one of the quiet ones at MLG to me.

I'm not sure whether I like this or not. Fenix was at some point inspiration for my game style, but he didn't show any good results afaik in the past 3 months, I dunno how he will do in Korea :o

When have we seen him in "his best shape" in SC2? It seems like every tournament I've watched him play in he gets decent, but not great, results.

See what I mean? perceptions are often divorced from reality.. Tyler is a decent player he's never won anything, heck he's never been top 4 in any tourney worth a damn...but yeah he's a fantastic player, whereas Fenix is just well.. inconsistent.. lol.

Oh, I love the nature of forums!
Congratulations to Fenix and best of luck! He never struck me as a particularly stand out player, but I guess he was just one of the quiet ones at MLG to me. Let me guess... you think Tyler is a better player than Fenix... Of course! Tyler is Tyler! After all what we think is as irrelevant as it gets so why would one care? tyler WAS i great player, this is in the past tense. Hes certainly not in as good form as he was before, there really isnt any debating this considering his last tournaments..

fenix is a lil quiet beast. Don't think he has won much but hes like always around. Kinda like polt was?

Sheth is in Code A for July
|
Wohoo! South America fighting!
|
Congrats to fenix. and btw, when i'm in my best shape im the Top foreigner.
|
Fenix hasn't been top3 of any single tournament this year.
I don't see how he would suddenly turn out to be code A level. Even people like Thorzain and Naniwa will probably have to work hard to be decent code A players and maybe get promoted to code S.

IE should we add him to Fantasy GSTL?
edit: yes he will ok adding now
Can't wait to win this with my all foreign line up. Once it gets going, this is exciting. ^_^

lol @ the few that are Fenix bashing. honestly, you got nothing more productive to do ?
Fenix has already proven he beats the top players. That alone is enough encouragement to goto Korea to improve further. If anyone was in Fenix shoes they would go.
GLHF to Fenix, I think he will do well.

So did GSL decide to "invite" Sheth to participate in Code A July because they had so many people from MLG Columbus turn them down? I am assuming FXO paid for his flight since he was already planning on participating in GSTL.

Of these four players, only SLush had not been in Code S or A previously.
And of those who were in A or S, only Idra has made it past the first round of A or S (and more than once)
