The DreamHack Sapphire AMD Championship: Summer 2011 is just around the corner and now its time to present the very last players. Sadly some have been forced to cancel their participation but we have great players to replace them. We are also presenting the groups!
Here we go: Welcome to DreamHack July, Bomber, NightEnD, Elfi, Jimpo, merz, Tarson, GoOdy, ClouD, MoMan, HayprO, DieStar, Naugrim.
InCa, MarineKing, anypro, Stephano, TLO wont participate due to various reasons, we hope to see them compete in future DreamHack events.
If you want to know more about what players that were invited before or just Dreamhacks general plans for Starcraft 2 during the summer-event, please visit and discuss in this thread then.
These groups seem quite balanced. Usually it's quite easy for me to pick out the infamous "group of death," but in this case, all these players are so good that there is no singular group of death to be found.
Outstanding lineup. Going to be a great tournament. The quality of players down the entire list is absolutely amazing. I would have liked to see Nerchio here though! He's pretty much at the top of the european zerg pile ATM. Oh well, this will be epic regardless.
One of the few times seeing IdrA in a comparatively easier group as well.
I have to say I like that there is no bullshit in how these groups were made. DH didn't go and separate Koreans and players from the same team from each other. Really like that.
I looked down the list and the first thing I thought was, "Oh, these look pretty nice and balanced ..."
And then I saw Group H and ate my words. Still, though, it's not as terrible as some other groups of death we've seen thus far, and I'll be excited to see Bomber, FD, and Happy play each other. Should be pretty sick, and hopefully we'll see some of that acclaimed Happy marine micro.
Ok predictions: Group A: Probably weakest group together with group C. Should be a fight between nani/ret/strelok. Im gonna go with Nani/Ret.
Group B: Wow, most well rounded group. No one stands out neither as better nor worse than the rest. I honestly feel anyone could go through. Wild guesses: Morrow + Socke.
Group C: Could be the weakest group. Idra + Kas seems like the obvious prediction.
Group D: Good group, MC + Sen stands out though so gonna have to go with those.
Group E: Huk + Moon, no question.
Group F: Hard group. Hasu + Sjow + Thorzain + July could all make it out of other groups, but im gonna have to go with Thorzain + July.
Group G: With Jinro not seeming in shape recently.... Nade + White-ra.
Group H: Will be very interesting to see Happy. But without having seen him prove himself at other lans, im gonna have to go with the koreans: Bomber + Fruitdealer. Happy or Mana could make an upset though.

Group A 1. Ret 2. Naniwa
Group B 1. DIMAGA 2. Morrow
Group C 1. Idra 2. SaSe
Group D 1. MC 2. Sen
Group E 1. Moon (to beat HuK who said he sucks... lol) 2. DeMuslim
Group F 1. July 2. Thorzain
Group G 1. Nada 2. Jinro
Group H 1. Bomber 2. Happy
Yeah I kind of agree with everything except with group G and H which are really hard to predict. Grack's group looks promising for him and the only opposition there is sase.
oh wow, i looked at the first group and was like, sheesh that group is so stacked... then i looked at the rest of the groups... and they all are =o. this is going to be a sick lan
Pretty solid groups I was like these groups ain't too bad some solid people in them and not so solid people got to F and was like thats a bit harder then saw group H and like -.-'. Group H is my group of Death imo.
AND NO MKP WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I was looking forward to that so much :'(.
i guess MKP cried his eyes out after missing the finals, still glad that july and bomber are going to be there, really makes up for the lack of mkp. i mean inca and anypro arnt that interesting anyways. :<

I guess MKP was confident that he would play the GSL finals when Dreamhack took place. They probably needed him to make up his mind before the ro4 games were played to be able to make the groups and other preparations for the tournament.
Concerning Nerchio: It's his own fault not getting invited. Everyone invited needed to show their interest befor even being considered. Nerchio recently told that he didn't think he was ready for LAN events yet and most likely didn't apply for interest.
Poor Adelscott. MC, ClouD, Sen AND TT1 to compete with But group H seems to be the death group for sure. I see Happy and Bomber will be the top of that, followed by our zergians. July also has a pretty good group. Group E is going to be easy for HuK, IdrA gets a fairly easy bracket, he just has to watchout for SaSe and maybe Naama & Kas. Group B seems pretty stacked. Morrow, Dimaga, Socke and Nightend all in one group? :| and A is going to be the massive upset group, Naniwa, Strelok and Ret are my favorites for that.
FD's ZvT is pretty damn good, and his ZvZ is nothing to scoff at either. It's his ZvP that's a problem, but if he's been working at it (and he showed some great games vs. Ace), he should be pretty solid. I think most people think he sucks now because he hasn't been showing great results, but honestly, it's not like he's been losing to shitty players all over the place.
A: Strelok, Ret (Don't have much faith in Naniwa, Strelok and Ret have both been on a tear) B: Morrow, Dimaga (or flipped if Morrow can't race pick against Z) C: Sase, Kas (Idra gonna get rolled by 2rax over and over) D: MC, Sen (Both are just leagues above anyone else in this group. Yes, I'm aware Cloud beat Sen in NASL) E: Moon, Demuslim (Really want Moon to destroy Huk after what Huk said. Demuslim gets lucky with only 2 Zergs in his group) F: July, Thorzain (Lots of upset potential here though) G: White Ra, Nada (Jinro is bad lately, Goody has always been bad and I don't know who elfi is) H: Bomber, Happy (Fruitdealer isn't a top player anymore, though Mana could pull something out of his hat. Lol Haypro)
Simply incredible lineup. And with 5 streams, I imagine we'll have wide coverage. I might actually get to watch decent amount of matches of players I'm rooting for (unlike MLG Columbus, where some players were rarely streamed (i.e. Tyler and Thorzain)).

On the all Protoss SotG, Naniwa said he was worried about Moon at NASL (then ironically only lost to Slush) because he was Korean. Huk straight up said "Don't worry about Moon, Moon is terrible."

On a SOTG episode not long ago (the one before MLG Cbus), the one with four P players and JP, HuK said to Naniwa that he didn't have to worry about Moon because the latter wasn't that good.
I really hope a european wins this, excellant groups and player line up. Will be sad if Nada doesn't go but there are loads of great players out there to take his spot.
Jeez, this is just as stacked as MLG Columbus, if not more. There's a lot of "dormant' players that havn't been quite as active tournament-wise. The groups are impossible to predict, which makes this tournament pretty interesting how it'll play out.
Sadly, this right before my exams week =( Noooooooo.
really really good groups, none of them stand out as very tough, a few of them are a bit soft, but only because they lack top-of-the-line players. Definitely looking forward to this event!
Fruitdealer might drop a series to Mana but I don't see him losing to any terran or zerg in his group. Fruitdealer is the weakest amongst all GSL champions atm, but he's still one of the strongest Zergs in the world.
Luckily visitors from South Korea are'nt required a visa to travel into Sweden(if I read it right) and as such bomber shouldnt runt into any problems and will make it to DH
i read the title of the thread, opened it, didn't see JulyZerg at first glance, then thought "oh they meant it was IN July", got annoyed, re-read it, saw JulyZerg, got super pumped. I LOVE JulyZerg so much. i will definitely find a way to watch this.
MarineKing probably has that other Special League to prepare for, and the finals of the GSL are also on the start of the Dreamhack tournament, so I fully expect him to be in the front rows to cheer on and help Polt against MMA.
Whitera, Jinro and Nada in a single group is sex itself. Sadly, I can't imagine a Korean not winning this, despite the level of competition. Where are Nestea and MVP ffs?!

Fruitdealer hasn't done anything well in months. People should stop being delusional about him.
That's totally a BS way for DreamHack to screw Fnatic. How could they put TT1 and Sen in the same division? That should be a crime.
This is looking horrible for Sen. He had to face that many Protoss, and the only Terran in that division is Cloud, which actually beat Sen once in NASL.

Dude, I'll always be delusional about him, and it's certainly not hurting you that he has fans. I thought his series with Ace was pretty fantastic, personally. If you really want a rundown:
S2: Lost to MKP, who took 2nd. S3: Lost to HongUn 3-2 in a ZvP, his shit match-up. January: Lost BO1s to Mvp (no shame in that) and Zenio (who is pretty darn good). March: Lost to anypro. ZvP. Again, his shit match-up. May: Made it past Check (lol) and Lyn and fell to NesTea the God Zerg in ro16. Super Tourney: 2-1'd by Ace in a pretty darn good series, showing quite a bit of improvement in his atrocious ZvP. I mean, sure, he lost, but he lost pretty damn well, IMHO.
Besides that, I will laugh if all the Terrans in IdrA's group 2-rax him into the ground.
I assume TLO is sitting this one out due to his carpal tunnel? Shame.

Thats awesome. Naugrim was the missing Swede in my book. He might not have won much yet and he only recently started playing the game but he has impressed me a lot and seems very determined. I everyone gets to see some nice games out of him.

Well I actually would be surprised if Bomber and Mc will not make the top 3. So I think it is definatly a possiblity. I don't see many europeans who are able to beat them. At MLG the best Europeans( Thorzain, Morrow and Naniwa) were there.
People saying IdrA didn't get group of death... Best/second best Protoss in Europe Best/second best Terran in Europe Dark horse that has a habit of winning things
It's no cakewalk for sure. Every group looks tough, can't wait.

To be fair if you lose in Code S, you probably lost to someone good. It's not like there's many bad players in Code S. You good probably do the same thing for Rainbow, Ensnare and other not so great Code S guys.
The overall spread of players in these groups is quite amazing. No group of death and no walkover groups to account for really. Might be the first time in awhile Idra wont be facing up against the best of the best in group play

man MLG upped their game, so now DreamHack is upping theirs! It's like esports gets better and better, new standards being set every tourney! 5 streams?! IdrA, Bomber, July, Happy, Kas, Thorzain, Ret, Huk?! You can bet that MLG will have more than 2 streams next!!!!!!!
Nice there's no group of death...but man, Huk got a super easy group. I bet he's puking rainbows right now.
Huk got a pretty tough group in my opinion. Huk, Demuslim, Lalush and Moon might all be in top 2, also Tarson is contender in a slighter change.
EG IdrA – Zerg MYM SaSe – Protoss
IdrA and Kas seems like a high possiblity
Group H seems easy thou, Bomber will rock that, just a hope that Happy will at least give him some challenging matches.
I wonder whats the story with select, there are way lesser players than him who got the invite, also pretty funny IdrA actually fought for his own spot....

His group's not the easiest, and to be fair he had the Group of Death at MLG (and came out of #1, though choked against MC lol). SaSe is probably the most underrated foreigner right now, he's blowing through everyone and has a good shot at Idra. Kas is great as well (3rd in TSL3). Grubby's been crapping it up in NASL but showed pretty good results elsewhere.

Still I think Idra gonan have a very rough time to get pass the group stage and his recent form l8tly. there players know Idra can easy tilt and im sure a player like Naama will take that into account considering he is a very "cheesy" player
So single elimination, BO3s two go out of the groups? Already groups where half of them could all win the tournament gonna be one of the best tournaments yet.

Maybe top 2 per group into champion bracket, 3 and 4 go into lower bracket and bottom 2 are out
Please not... Never...
Invites/Qualifiers --> Group Stage --> Tournament Bracket is probably one of the "fairest" and at the same time most exciting systems you can have...
After the Group Stage having all the 3d placed people go into another Group and fight it out there for another 2 leftover "places" would be the most i would like... A tournament shouldn't be overly complicatet and it for sure shouldn't "make" some people play like 20++ games and others far under 10 (like MLG). I also don't like double elimination, while nice for the players, it just takes out TONS of excitement from the winner bracket.
The only small gripe i have with Dreamhack is, that the amount of Invites compared to the "qualifiers" seems ridiculous.
I really like how the groups have been done with good game race split.
So hyped, and want to see Moon crush Huk after being called bad by him.
I Feel happy for Bomber who must have been devastated not being able to make his first trip to MLG and the BYOC winners are going to win themselves some amazing games.
Also wasnt it Bischu that proxy gated Demuslim last time? Revenge time Ben <3
1. Is Nada really going to participate? Huk twetted to SirScoots yesterday that Nada is not going. 2. Why is Nercio not on the list? (not trolling - he has been playing great recently) Has DH invited him and he declined?
This line-up is so stacked, it's hard to believe. Looked at group A and thought to myself "that's a bit of a group of death", but any other group looks exactly the same. Batshit insane.
Not your fault Dreamhack, but I must say, I'm happy I didn't buy ant tickets because of no Marineking. Sucks. But still looks to be an awesome tournament.

This has been posted so many times on TL. First of all, all players need to apply in order to recieve an invite (exceptions might have been made for the koreans). Second, Nerchio doesn't yet feel ready for LANs, or so the rumors say.

Honestly what do you excpect? It's an "offline" tournament in Sweden, obviously it's going to be easier to invite swedish players because they are almost 100% guaranteed to be able to participate. Perhaps they want to prioritize swedes because the crowd will be mainly swedish? If there was a huge tournament in Germany like this, based on invites (there probably is lol just havent heard bout it), wouldn't you expect alot of germans to participate?
Besides, alot of the swedish players are talented, and who knows, maybe nerchio didn't send an application, or he wasn't that well knows, when the invitees where decided.
Ofc there will be alot of swedish invites since its a tournament on swedish soil and Dreamhack want to give as much exposure to the swedish players as possible.
And considering how good some of the swedish players are im not sure what the fuzz is about

Stephano was invited but had too pull out because he has exams on monday, nerchio doesn't go to LANs because he's under eighteen and his parents are against it or something. Dunno about darkforce/delphi. Jimpo has been steadily inmproving so he's a reasonable invite and he's finnish btw not swedish I think. Bischu has been showing pretty goood stuff lately too and has been training in the swedish pro-house so I wouldn't doubt him pulling off an upset if he's on a good day. Naugrim and merz aren't the highest caliber but asdrdreggor said, it's a swedish lan, of course they favor swedes a bit, same for NASL/MLG in the US and for the record naugrim placed better than haypro at the WCG qualifiers a month ago and haypro hasn't done anything decent for ever so I wonder why he is invited anywhere tbh. In the end they probably won't make it out of group stage and I don't think many others could in their place so it doesn't change mutch.

isnt it ridiculous that players like merz, jimpo, naugrim or bischu are invited over darkforce stephano nerchio or Delphi

Darkforce said on a german podcast that he was invited, but wasnt sure if he was going back then. Guess he chose not to.
Sad that we don't see Nerchio and Stephano this time (yeah I know it's not Dreamhack's fault). Btw, regarding Nerchio rumors, I think he stated quite clearly in an interview some days ago that he doesn't attend LANs -yet- cause he doesn't feel skilled enough (even tho I would disagree ).
I would also have loved to see Sheth and Kiwikaki instead of Machine and Tyler for NA but you can't have everything...
Group E looks like the easiest group and group B is the group of death (poor Socke -_-).
I don't understand why people think group H is the group of death. Afaik Fruitdealer isn't good anymore, Haypro isn't impressive either and Mana's vZ is probably the worst at the whole event. If the BYOC winner is a decent player this will be an average group imo.
Overall groups are very balanced tho, good job!
Will definitely be even more interesting than MLG since there are more top foreigners this time, apart from the obvious Korean superheroes Bomber, July and MC I don't see a clear favorite.
This looks like it can become a truly great event! Hope everyone can bring their best games! There are Swedes in all groups and perhaps not all of them are top EU players but this is what to expect from a LAN, there should be local representation. As a Swede I am still very proud that there are so many Swedish contenders that are top names in SC2 and it will be great seeing them playing at Dreamhack!! But it is a truly strong line up from all over the world! Looking forward to this!
The Korean lineup is rather disappointing. Bomber and July are awesome but was hoping for more MMA / MC action, or perhaps MKP. But oh well, can't have everything.

I agree that MMA and MKP would have been nice but I think that these fellows will keep the foreigners busy..
oGs MC oGs NaDa TSL FruitDealer WeMade Fox Moon Startale July Startale Bomber
Wow quite impressed with the final list, groups seem pretty even although it's quite sad to see that MKP won't be making an appearance. GL to group H =/
I hope Naama does well in his group play ^^ And also I wish that grubby has improved a lot and destroys players like he did in wc3 ( maybe it's just too optimistic, but you never know ^^ : ) )

I believe but i am not sure is that TLO is having trouble with is wrist / hand. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome if i recall hearing but i am not 100% sure as i dont follow TLO that closely.
Wow, Groups A, F & G are all beastly. I'd bet on Strelok and Naniwa coming out of A. I feel bad for Tyler Idra probably got the "easiest" group, imo. Awesome to see Fuitdealer & Nada will be there!
Sad about no MKP, but these groups looks really good. Very evenly distributed IMO, I don't think there is a "group of death", although Group F is pretty tough.
My predictions:
A: Naniwa + Ret B: MorroW + Dimaga C: IdrA + SaSe in the upset D: MC + Sen E: HuK + Moon F: Impossible to predict imo, too many good players. I'll say Hasu + Sjow G: NaDa + WhiteRa H: Bomber + Happy
6 protoss, 6 zerg, 4 terran...but I think there are a lot of other zergs that can do really well, like July, LaLush, and FruitDealer, so I'm gonna say we'll have a lot of zergs in the Ro16.
though i think the better system for deamhack(than MLG) could be worse for the koreans because mlg has proven that jetlag indeed effects the players, hopefully they come 1 day earlier, but i think we can expect some upsets.

edit: BTW NADA FIGHTING@
Don't worry. This time he is flying to Sweden and not US. And we don't think all foreigners are potential terrorists so there wont be any visa problems! :>
I really want to see a new Idra at Dreamhack. Calm and composed instead of whiny with a defeatist attitude!
This tournament pretty much has the sickest line-up of any tournament so far. And thinking about how well the previous Dreamhack was run it's not that surprising that so many big names are participating.
I'm expecting this to be THE tournament that all other tournaments a going to be looking up to.
All groups are so sick that it's impossible to say which is the toughest. But gogo WhiteRa and Tyler!!

Haha what? Happy was a pro WC3 player, probably the best undead in the world (I didn't follow that heavily though). He's going to feel right at home. ^^
Gonna be cool to see Happy. He already placed 2nd at some russian/ukrainian lan afaik losing to Dimaga in the finals, I havea feeling hes gonna turn some heads at DH ^_^! Easily the most promising EU player atm together wiith Nerchio, too bad Nerchio don't go to lans.
Too bad I'm missing sunday to go see Avenged Sevefold etc live in concert, and then the quarters and semis because of work.
The question is, should I purposely miss the finals as well and so I can watch the vods and miss nothing? That's not really the question, the question is how fast will Vods be uploaded?
I was looking at the groups trying to decide which is the group of death but... they all have players where anyone could take it. It's an awesome line-up. Except for group C, I would pick IdrA and Kas though now I think about it SaSe has been in form lately too. I don't know anymore. It's all good. :D
I'm actually surprised that Dreamhack has taken this long to announce replacements for NaDa and MarineKing. The tournament is on the 18th, so players need to be flying out soon.

What? NaaMa isn't putting uo any good results lately, but he is a good player, and Kas and SaSe are BEASTING lately.I don't know what you're talking about.

It's still arguably the easiest group (maybe group E, without Sen). That's how stacked this tournament is.

Yeah, from IdrA's perspective, it's a relatively easy group.
I'd rather have to play naama/kas/sase than naniwa/ret/strelok. Is that dumb? I don't watch other players enough to be confident in my assessment.

Im not sure really tough call, But Naama and Sase are really good I think they are very underestimated and then ofc Kas he is a beast. But I woulnt want to play nani ret and strelok either hehe.

To be honest, I dont think anyone can disagree with you. Thats a freaking scary tournament.
