Here is the full player list for MLG Columbus StarCraft 2. The field of talent—from North America, from Europe, and from Korea—is vast, and the competition should be fierce. The Event is fully sold out, although you may have a chance at getting a competitor pass by joining the waiting list. Competitor passes will also be sold at the door during check-in for $80, if cancelations create open spots in the Event.
In addition to the names below, there will be one confirmed late addition; the winner of the CSN tournament will be attending and will play through the Open Bracket.
The four invited Korean players have been seeded 17th-20th, as explained in the Official Competition Format.
Please note: seeds are not official until the close of player check-in on Friday, June 3 at 5pm, and this list is subject to change at any time.
Notable players making their first ever MLG appearance in Columbus include:
Never heard of Skew Or lefNaij I know Kitty/Terran Changed his name to Major did they change their names too from somthing?
Demuslim lol I wonder how he has recovered from his injury. Great to see the best euros and Koreans playing in the same event gona really love the event this year.

IefNaij is Jian Fei backwards, who won the first TSL. As for Skew, there used to be a BW player named Skew who played with Artosis and Nony back in the day - I think they mentioned on one of the SOTG that he "famously lost a Bo3 to Yellow in about 10 minutes total," but I don't know if it's the same guy.
Despite promising I'll never give MLG any money I'm getting a HD pass. I'm a victim of marketing and fantastic SC2 games, damn. Can't wait to see Demuslim, make him cast some as well please?

It's in alphabetical order. Thorzain is on there. Demuslim is probably on there with a clan tag in front of his name or something (I didn't look for him).

Iefnaij won the first TSL and was a really good Canadian BW player.
Skew was always ridiculously good when it came to practice but kinda bottled it whenever it came to a tournament.
Hope he does well at MLG. He really deserved better results than what he had in BW.
THE RETURN OF JIANFEI!!!! YAYAYAY NOW THAT IT IS SUMMER! my friend saw him at WCG canada last year and jianfei looked to be in great form when he took that tournament!
Skew: I'm really curious to see his level of play. If Artosis recruited him because they're friends or if he actually has some skill to back it up. If he plays like he did in BW he should be fun to watch. JF: I have no idea how good he is but I have high expectations. So sad SC2 doesn't have Reavers. Thorzain: Let's see how good he is without one week of preparation for one single opponent. I just hope he doesn't disappoint, I really like his play style.
Top 4 Open Bracket Predictions: CSN Korean, Morrow, Thorzain, Major. So much depends on brackets though, could easily have big names knock eachother out in the first or second rounds.
Really stoked for JF because I have no idea who that is apart from the stories of the legendary TSL 1. And all the hype he's getting. I guess it's a similar story to mondragon? Really cool. Also thanks for the guy pointing out that it was the name spelled backwards. I saw everyone posting JF and I was like what? I don't see him on the list. Sick line up and getting closer everyday
No one should be doubting JF's skill. This kid knows how to win. It takes him next to no time to get back into shape after inactivity, and he has such a natural skill for the game. Expect big things from him in columbus o_O!
I'm not sure if thorzain will make it through. We've seen hes spectacular at preparing for an opponent, but what about just going in match after match?

Maybe a month or so ago on stream/state of the game/something else? i can't remember exactly IdrA called skew the best macro terran in NA
MLG Dallas 2011 drew 232. 271 for MLG Columbus 2011.
MLG Dallas 2010 drew 124 players.
If you are trying to compare the growth/rise of MLG numbers for a popularity purpose, the Dallas 2010 numbers shouldn't be listed as that was the max # of participants MLG allowed for the event. I know for most of the 2010 events they sold out and a lot of people who wanted to play couldn't.
As for the list, should be fun, that open bracket is going to be mean to some people

This shit is going to be so Damn sexy! I swore is never watch mlg again. But I'm already so excited Bout mlg for weeks. If stream and stuff go as planned this will be one of best events ever. On par with gal and dreamhack imo.
I was hoping more EU players would go, but i guess the reward just doesnt justify the cost for them. Its a shame, atleast the four koreans, Demu and Thorzain up the standard from the last one though. Still nowhere near DH.
I will be interested in Majors run after all the drama regarding him and ROOT and wanting to get paid for travel+everything before actually having any tournament results. Kind of hope he fails because i love RooT.
I guess if he performs well though it will shut down/prove wrong that brief speculation of him hacking

IMLOSIRA FIGHTING!!! Take it down, Losira!!!
And on top of that, they've dropped Octoshape. Source
Wow those are some very interesting names... but it makes the open bracket seem even worse. I feel like they should somehow have it so that many people from the open bracket get to compete with many people in the championship bracket (or whatever you call the first day groups of 5). In other words, maybe instead of 1 extra person joining the groups, perhaps 2 could... but then that is a lot of games to play so... that probably wouldn't be the best solution.
My point is, it sucks that some of these players who really do have a shot at winning the whole thing or placing very high might not even make it out of the open bracket.

Damn, is mOOnGLaDe not coming? I could have sworn he said he was coming to MLG or something. Really wanted to see how the best and most sexy SEA player would do against NA/EU players. Oh well, strong player pool regardless, looking forward to the event!

IaefNaij = JF, he was one of the biggest badass protoss' we had outside of Korea! He was pretty huge back in the BW days, kinda like Mondragon.. Skew is famous for losing to Reach (the korean) at WCG within three minutes IIRC.. He was also pretty badass back in the days
Glad to see JF back in the fight, I've been excited ever since I heard that he was going active again. Excited to see T-Zain and Major, Major just because I'm curious as to how good he really is.
MorroW has been playing really well lately. I think he will go far in this MLG if he doesn't have to face one of the Koreans early or gets unlucky somehow.
There are so many good players in this tournament. It's going to be a great indication how good the foreigners compare to the koreans. 4/5(csn winner) of them are code S quality players. And most of the best foreigners are in this.
Oh god, I wish it was more than 12 advancing from the open bracket. It'd be great to start seeing more people from teams like vVv, VT, and ONE competing in the championship brackets.

It's a shame that the MLG format really benefits certain big american e-sports personalities over far greater skilled european and korean players who have to battle for only 4 spots in the open bracket. Here is to hoping that the bad players in the groups get kicked out before the national championships, because out of the current 20 in the group stages, only about 10-12 of them would be in the top 20 players going to this MLG.

Actually 12 players advance from the open bracket. (It used to be 16 before the format change to accommodate the Koreans into pool play.) Its just that the top 4 of those 12 go into the groups, while the next 8 go straight into the loser's bracket.
Overall though, I do agree with the sentiment that it is too hard to lose a spot in the top 16.
I think Bomber has to be a favourite going into this. If he does lose, I think it's most likely gonna be to some unconventional Protoss style which catches him offguard, so perhaps Kiwi or Naniwa stand the best chance. I really don't see him losing to any Terrans or Zergs though...
Good god Columbus is gonna be sick. Demuslim coming back is gonna be awesome, and honestly, there is no good way to predict who's gonna win this tournament, cannot wait!

It doesn't favour "certain big american e-sports personalities", it favours people with previous results at MLG events.

It favours them to much and for to long
This format doesn't work for Starcraft. When a guy goes 4-3 and finishes 4th, whereas another guy goes 11-2 and finishes 8th, you have to suspect something is wrong with the system. At the very least, you can't really say anything about the placings at MLGs. The winner probably deserves to win but beyond that it is hard to really suggest that any of the other placings will mean anything. This of course will change as MLG progresses throughout the year, but rankings at this point mean pretty much nothing. Therefore, as always I shall root for a win from the open bracket, like Naniwa did, which would be a truly deserved 1st place.

Jian Fei is one of the strongest Canadian SCBW tosses, and Skew yes its the same Skew who played with Nony,Assem,Tasteless and Assem in team Media he was probably the best out of all of them alongside Assem.
first I was like: cool losira, bomber, mma....then saw....DEMUSLIM! watsup! man I'm so hyped for MLG with everything announced and now the return of demuslim. it's gonna be awesome!
Oh my.... this MLG looks so interesting with the koreans as well, I can't wait. I hope they'll provide a stable stream this time, so all of us can enjoy all this awesomeness!
Demuslim is not on the full player list and on his facebook he mentioned being in contact with his management at EG to find out why he appears not to have been registered...
Maybe I am just blind, dunno. Pretty stupid though that their list is just a pic so you cant search for names per ctrl+f.
edit: Ok someone else found the same thing. Wow I really hope Demuslim is not out of this. He was so looking forward to it, talking about MLG all the time on his show.
If this is not worked out, I see some serious drama incoming.
I mean, Slasher (MLG employee, and OP of this thread), EG, and DeMusliM all say he's going to be there, so I'm guessing he'll be playing one way or another. He may have registered under an alias, or EG registered under an alias, or some other arrangement.
fantastic lineup, glad to see Europeans slowly, but surely creeping over.
Great lineup! I am excited to see ThorZain test his skill against new opponents in a LAN setting. Plus, we get to see Terran (SJ.Major) put his skills to the test! I wonder how gosu he will be ^__^ I wonder if there will be a "bm-storm" when he is there hehe :D
Also, I hope the best for DeMuslim, but I think he might get completely dismantled! He needs more time to recover before spending his team's money to come to MLG. None the less, I hope he does well.

As a DeMusliM fan and a supporter of pros from my home country, if he's not there because of some cock-ups from the management either at EG or at MLG, then I'm gonna be pretty pissed about that.

the MLG system needs to be reworked a bit, the real top 16 is totally different from the MLG point based one.
You're never going to get a tournament with a points system that accurately reflects the top 16 attending the tournament. Even with an entirely open bracket, the top 16 finishers won't be the best 16 players that we're at the tournament, due to unfortunate/fortunate matchups (inca vs mc is a prime example of this). Just the way it is.
That said, the MLG system is way too conservative, in the way that if you start in the pool phase, you end in the top 24 even if you loose every game over the course of three days. It'd be nice to see some kind of middle ground between the two, that's for sure. It's currently too hard for players to make it into a MLG spot from a solid performance (excluding someone pulling off a naniwa, winning the tourney from the open bracket).
Then again, it's hard to predict how the korean invites will work out. Imagine the koreans finishing 1-2-3-4 (don't see it happening with Moon in the mix, but still). That will shake up the seeding/invites like nothing else.

Not sure why you singled Moon out there since the last foreigner lan he attended he finished 2nd in the IEM world champoinship. I hope they get better competition this time, but suspect there will be a korean final again.
The MLG Columbus StarCraft 2 Pool D Preview image is ancient! Command centers, missile turrets, and refineries all look different now. I think it was one of the initial screenshots released when the game was announced.
Goddamn, the open bracket is filled to the brim with sick players. Columbus is going to be a treat for spectators.
Expect good stuff from the Sixjax camp. Skew sent me a .PDF with all his secret plays, and I can assure you that he's got some Little Giants shit up his sleeve.
Stoked that DeMusliM is attending. I hope he performs really well, he really deserves a high up placement in a tournament considering his talents. He just needs his time to shine
Quick question. Weren't the winners of the Clash of the Houses also invited? I didn't completely follow that tournament but I thought that was the plan?

Ret - Liquid has underperformed for months, and Ret hasn't made much of a splash since he returned from Korea. Show us some heavy macro play and infest the whole map with creep.
ThorZaIN - I became a fan of his in TSL3 when he crushed the hardest bracket imaginable with straight-up, solid, entertaining games. I'm interested to see how Thorzain performs in improvised games without preparation against a specific opponent.
LosirA - The guy is pretty damn good, the second best zerg in the world in my opinion. It's about time he wins something. This kind of tournament could fit him well, as his on-the-fly decision making is what has has impressed me most about him in the past. I hope his ZvT won't stand in his way.

Not to mention just in general beasting in NASL. He is looking in great form. I think the Liquid 'slump' is largely over. It is just individual players who are slumping now, Jinro and Tyler mostly. HuK and Ret look great right now, I don't have much information on Haypro, and TLO is always a little variable but can beat anyone on the right day.

Lol, I thought the same thing. I wonder what happened with this guy? School or something? Seems like he left a lot of money on the table. He would have easily been a huge name in SC2 if he had been out there from the get-go. Either way, glad to see him competing again. I hope he does well.
I like how all of them basically said, politely, "Yeah I don't really expect trouble from anyone who isn't in this room with me right now. Naniwa maaaaaaaaybe."

MMA and Losira as ex-BW pros are conditioned to disregard any NA/EU players. :p
Then again, MMA did mention Kiwikaki and Losira did mention TLO who eliminated him in the GSL 1 Ro64, so we can't be too harsh.
Still, here's hoping Columbus can be a sort of wake-up call for these guys and we'll see some great games and upsets that show the Koreans that NA/EU does have players worthy of competing. In any case, getting out there and traveling to another continent is always a good experience for these young guys, no matter the outcome.

They didn't mention Naniwa Or I'm deaf :O
I heard the Koreans say Naniwa but the translator didn't translate it. (Either that or I misheard them saying it )
