Hey folks. I know a lot of people liked Xeph's stream, and out of respect for him I didn't share this until now. Here is a quick and short guide to watching Korean progamer or high level players streams.
What Xeph has been saying for the most part is false (nor was it a favour to tl,). Most progamers won't stream unless they want to, regardless of wether somebody asks them to or not. and if they wanted to stream on tl, it would be easy for them to do so. All we were doing is just taking numbers of their streams.
Daum player is watchable from outside Korea. There is though a few (i've only encountered maybe 6 or 7 sc2 streams) that are restricted to people who have a Daum account, which requires a Korean ID. You will tell this by either a happy face or a lock on the top left of the stream image. If you have a Korean ID, you can watch those.
But otherwise most streams don't require this and are watchable (in HD) from anywhere.
so lets get this show on the road. Here are the quick and simple steps to getting daum player on and working.
1, go here http://tvpot.daum.net/live/ and click the clearly labeled player download on the right side of the screen.
2, once downloaded install the program. THe only issue i've had is the fact that it installs a "Daum cleaner" which is a cheap disk cleanup thing. You can uninstall that after the installition is complete.
3. some media files will be associated with Daum player. Which can be charged by right clicking your media files and using the open with command and then changing the program used to open with to your preference. Though Daum is a Decent media player overall and if your not picky you can skip this step.
4. Click on the daum player Icon and get it to load up.
5. There will be a list of streams on the right side of the program. There are little arrows near the bottom of the side bar. use this to natvigate pages.
6, if you are looking for sc2 streams only. Just type in 스타2 for sc2 streams.
7, You're done. Now whenever your feeling in the mood, you can load up daum player and watch a stream. Though I can't say there will be streams on all the time. most evenings Korean time have a few streams going on. Just lat week I watched oGsTop stream for about an hour.
Sorry if this guide seems lacking a bit. I wanted it to be rather simple and consice without making the entire thing look over complicated. Nor do I know Korean, so I can't tell you exactly what options are there. Just look around the setting yourself and eventually you'll figure them out.
Also for all you fans of COH and BW. there are channels that appear for both games. with BW being the most.
I also see large amounts of Anime streams. So you Anime fans, This is the player for you.
EDIT: Guide to getting an account on Daum. Now you can get all stream. Thanks Kiante and Boblhead for the guides.

edit: nvm, i uninstal and got it, extreme laggy but quality is at least 720p o.O...

This is amazing it actually works. If only I could read Korean so I can figure out who I'm actually watching it would be even better lol.. maybe someone will post translations so we know who's who?

So most players who are competing at that level will have english names. Otherwise they might be high level amatuers (and they will have Koren names)

The program comes with online stream thing as dealfault. So check all start menu shortcuts.
The guides there are for the most part outdated, so thats why I didn't link to them, but they are for sure useful. The translations do not work with the current build, trying them might crash Daum

Well it is the guide I used so I thought I would put it out there. No worries though.

Anyone know who he is? His mechanics are probably the best I've ever seen.

Try it. I'm in canada and it works. So I would assume ti works in most places. If you find out it does not work in certain places. Let me know and I'll edit the OP
|
it works but its free and legal?
|
Have to remember it is not all progamers, a lot are in silver through to diamond. It is just a streaming service for them like jtv or ustream.
|
when i try starting a stream/video, it just freezes on me :/
|
Thanks for this! Now i can play even less and watch more!

On May 26 2011 15:19 HappyZerg wrote: it works but its free and legal?
Why would it break the law. Daum is very well known in Korea. Even sponsoring a OSL or MSL at one point.
On May 26 2011 15:23 nitdkim wrote: when i try starting a stream/video, it just freezes on me :/ Might be buffering the stream. Or it could be an internet issue on your end.

Wow, nice! Downloading now! I really should have taken korean but hten again... I'm a silverleague player, there's absolutely no hope for me to reach the level they are.
YOu have... okay, you probably do, but it was so extremely strange just going on a leap of faith that this wasn't an, "explode my computer and fill it with horse porn" thingy.
Super laggy though... can' watch it at all :" (

The amount of screen clutter on that stream...

I got it working, but my internet seriously needs some chronoboost to stop the buffering.
|
nice thank you so much. seems like the koreans dont know that u have to play in Windowed[fullscreen] when u stream. if u dont the screen flickers for the viewers
|
I seriously think we need like a LR thread of Korean streams to keep everyone updated when they see a good game about to go down. Kinda like how the MvC3 thread gets a bump to remind people of WNF or a good match that happened.

why does the screen blinks everytime?any way i can fix that?

Thats on their end. They usually stream Fullscreen, which means the stream flickers. Not our issue. just them not streaming properly. Better than nothing though

This is awesome, thanks for sharing!! Also is it me or mostly Zergs stream

My player crashed. I reopened it then the right side is now blank so I can't search for streams. I can't read Korean so I don't know how to get back. Help me please?

Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately this is really laggy for me. I have an ~16mbit connection but it doesn't seem to help.

The quality is actually _sick_.
Btw, is the player darkblueish? Just to know that i have the right one.. i found 3 streams when i searched Sc2.

There is a little tiny arrow in the right side of the daum player when you hover over the right side. Slick on it. they will reappear.

I have a 3mb connectiong and downloading a torrent as well as watching stream, it works for me. So I guess thats an issue with your location.

Does no one in Korea watch streams? I'm seeing only one stream with over 20 viewers and it looks like an MVP vs zenex clan war thing.

I deselected everything on the installation and I think it came out pretty clean and I can watch streams normally, I just can't see to find much streams going on.. Dunno if I messed up but here is my feedback (:

Sweeet more streams to watch! But ya it is a little laggy , its in HD by default has any1 figured out how to change the quality?

I'm watching a guy but i don't think hes a pro, i would suggest you keep the thread updated with progamers that stream, so people would know when to watch otherwise your better off just watching jtv or somthing.

HUH?
You just dropped this like a fucking bomb!
Is it only me that reacts to two things:
1. Xeph was lying (you don't need to be in Korea nor was it a favor for TL)
2. And you not telling this because "out of respect for Xeph"
Thanks for sharing though but I found the whole Xeph is lying to TL a bit awkward.

You can make accounts on daum without a korean id, because i have one...cant remember exactly how i did it, i remember selecting the third option down in the selection screen tho....if that helps...i just felt my way through it

Well I knew about the streams for a while, but I knew Xeph was restreaming and possibly making money from justin.tv ads. So I didn't want to ruin that for him. thats why I did it tonight cause I have not seen his stream on in so long.
Also on the topic on not many streams. Its only like 4pm there. evening time and late night there are more (korean time of course)

Sounds pretty cool if a ton of people get it going for themselves and everything works without any virus or weird stuff I'll jump in line and follow suit. Love me some streams!

It works just fine, there's just no streams right now except 2 people ladders and a protoss from Mvp tearing through randoms while a guy commentates.

Well the daum player has been used for years for bw players, so it works fine. its new to sc2 community though.

Of course it was in favor of TL. I can't watch it properly, it buffers all the time. Although he had contact with the programes so that they do stream. Do you think they stream in the public so that everyone can watch them play, even their next opponents? You can watch people stream, but i guess 99% of them are mediocre players, or at least not in a famous team.

Many players from Zenex use daum. I've seen players from MVP. Slayers, oGs. and many others use Daum. Daum is pulbic, its not that issue for sure. anyone can go on daum and watch them, Korean players usually don't if they have a big match in the next few days.
And on the buffering. thats sometimes is an issue on a stream by stream basis. I have no problems some days, and a lot another day.
I know Xeph knew people only since he was Korean and could talk to them. I talk to the players from TSL. Does that make me in the know? not at all. I have connections with a lot of really good players, but that does not mean anything.

just pause the stream for like 30-40 seconds, and check your email, by the time your done checking it you shouldnt have to buffer anymore, and ya you have to keep refreshing the stream list.

Its 6pm Korean time. I've seen like 7 or 8 max around 10pm Korean time.
though for BW its always double to triple that number

Ok further investigating if you just type in 스타 it will bring up many streams, but alot of them are password protected or require you to sign it, Smiley face icon in the thumbnail will require you to sign in, there are some BW/ sc2 streams that don't require a login.

If it helps, find a quick hangul to english alphabet then translate each of the names, some won't make sense as they're smurfs, some definitely will. MKP traslated was baskin robins 31. Alot of the clan names are also korean-english compatible so you can just convert the korean to english, and also learn a new alphabet too

Wow feels like many people (including me) have been a little tricked by Xeph telling he is the only one that can stream? o.O
Anyway this is great, much apprecieted man.

So is there no way to decrease quality? I am thinking of how jtv has settings on most streams to decrease from 720 to 240.

Sorry if the way i'm saying it's rude, but don't talk shit about xeph. The Pros he streamed always knew they were streaming for TL and often chatted with us on JTV, saying xeph was just restreaming this is silly, very silly.

You are absolutly not informed enough. More, it was not realy possible for Koreans to make a stream on teamliquid since they were going to stream only some hours/month. That's why Xeph made this stream and when the pro gamer stopped streaming he tryed to find another one. The only pro which was not especially streaming for Teamliquid was Rainbow...
Now I hope that you will edit your OP post and warn enthusiast european users that they won't be able to watch Daum in most country because of the huge delay and lags issues or will watch it in very bad condition.

I'm not saying at all that xeph did not ask to restream, I would only assume it would be the polite thing to do. I do not believe he requested players to stream, He may have suggested, but I doubt they stream only because he asked.
Heck if I knew Korean, I could go and ask the Koreans to stream myself, and it would end up the same result. Anyone can do that.
But in response to what my op states. He says that Daum in unwatchable outside Korea. this is completely wrong. He says they stream only for tl, this is another wrong.
But now here is the good thing. We don't need to Xeph to stream. We can watch it ourselves now. unless you're in europe i guess.
My only problem with xeph was the fact he was making money off streaming. If a player wants to stream only for a month, they can do it for free and earn some cash while they are at it.
I might decicde to restream myself since Xeph is not around. Though the money would all go directly to the progamers who would be streamed, since I don't need the money.

Xeph was not making any money, he was not using the commercials so again, you are not well-informed enough.
If you can restream some Daum streams from famous progamer I am sure a lot of people in TL community who can't use Daum would appreciate a lot and I would be first.

Nice nice nice! Huge thanks for posting this ^_^

No dude, buffering is when your internet gets supply blocked.

Anyone from eastern europe can share opinion? Laggy or not?
Edit:Nvm,I tried it myself, works fine, but you have to let it buffer,if you stream live its too slow just like youku.

To anybody having the problem were all 3 tabs do not come up and no streams are showing. I was having the same problem until I looked on my desktop. There was one icon which just said dom player, and another one which said Daum but had live written across it. CLICK ON THIS ONE, the other one works more like gom player.

Thanks for this but why the need to knock someone else?
|
Thanks for the guide, but I can't stop thinking about Xeph's little scheme. He sounded really pleasant on the stream, I'm sure he's a nice guy, but alot of what he said was utter bull crap. making it sound like he contacted the players and arranged the streams. I have respect for you masterbreti my good sir, I know I would have spilled the beans if I knew what was really going on. :D
EDIT: It appears that Xeph was innocently mirroring korean pro steams with their consent as is said is this DongRaeGu interview . perhaps an edit is in order?

Only buffering for me here in Sweden. =(

You are absolutly not informed enough. I myself discussed with oGsTheStC and it was xeph who asked him to stream on Daum so he could easily share this stream to the TL community since Daum DOES NOT WORK FOR EUROPEANS BECAUSE OF THE DELAY ! Xeph did it with other pro gamers like DongRaeGu who ONLY streamed because they knew TeamLiquid was watching them. Part from DongRaeGu's interview: Q. How much do you know about Teamliquid.net and the foreigner scene? I know that Xeph mirror'ed my stream from Daum Pot and it was posted on TL.net. I tried to find posts in Teamliquid about my stream but I couldn't find any. Xeph said you can't watch it outside of Korea because they limit the bandwidth and it will lag like crazy. If you guys have used Daum player before you would know how laggy it is.
We do need Xeph because he asks the players to stream and they do it as a favor for us. They were streaming for Xeph and teamliquid. Xeph was not just mirroring them and he wasn't using commercials.
The Koreans would come into the chat room and talk with us and ask about teamliquid. Clide was really nice and kept telling Xeph how cool it was that people were watching his stream.
So stop talking out of your ass and making shit up.

Like I metion in a later post (sorry, op wasn't edited) that he probalay did ask for permission to restream. I'm was just saying that it was not all just him streaming the player, they would have been streaming anyways.
EDIT: op was edited.
My only thing is I hope that progamers start to stream on justin.tv or similar. Since that would be far better than Daum or any other stream, as they can use commercials to support themselves. Xeph restreaming was not doing that. now i'm not sure, but I think daum does pay larger streamers. hence why we see people like mecca and such streaming a crapton. so giving them numbers is what really matters

No, they wouldn't be streaming anyways. Xeph asked them to do it for TL. They only streamed for Xeph and TL. While they streamed them came into the chat room and talked to us and answered questions.
Sure you can find some pros streaming, but the top tier players that streamed for us only did it because Xeph asked.
Xeph also mentioned reason why they don't stream such as other Koreans will watch their streams and study them for GSL.

I have not seen them on their mains anyways. If they have streamed. I have not noticed it. I did see a match against MVP though the other day.

Make sure you're opening the live player, not the default media player.

First letter can't be a capital, said another poster on one of the previous pages.

some streams require you to create an account. just go ahead and create one using the guides at the bottom of the op

Is there a way to lower the quality since I'm getting buffering all the time with:

OP should add in bold at the top of the topic. "YOU CANNOT LOWER THE QUALITY OF THE STERAMS." its just a reiterated question.

there are a lot of streams so I cannot suggest one in particular.

The op seems pretty misleading and negative toward Xeph who did all of us a favor.. Should just remove all the things about Xeph instead of being so ambiguous.

It's okay, its quite obvious this thread is kind of a slap in the face to xeph and also that the op is an attention whore. Xeph was very dedicated and did sick work for us. I remember him streaming guineapig when he changed race and also MC if I recall correctly.

Btw, how do I restream stuff from potplayer (using xsplit or ustream producer, for example)? It doesnt capture live stream or any video whatsoever, black screen instead of game picture (the mouse cursor is fine however) and all player GUI is shown too. Have anybody solved this issue?\
edit: ok fixed this by turning overlays off in video renderer
