the Naniwa/Quantic split already had a really weird feeling about it before Geoff even brought it up. Geoff just confirmed that where there was smoke there was fire.
EG gets ripped to shreds on the acquisition of Puma.
The psychology behind it is this.... some people hate "the best" for being "the best".
Every #1 star in every major sport has a fan base of haters for no other particular reason than they are the best in the game.
Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Sidney Crosby all had a vocal minority of fans that hated them.
Same psychology is going on here with EG's promotion and marketing machine.
EG has an amazing marketing and promotion machine that is the envy of any other foriegn SC2 team.
Some people hate you for being good at what you do... its a symptom of poor self esteem. These people hate EG management for executing cool promotions and creating solid marketing campaigns.
That's why when EG makes a small error there is a bandwagon of "dedicated eSports enthusiasts" who jump all over them "for the good of the industry".

Are you sure that is the reason that EG was ripped to shreds and not that drama bomb coach Lee said that I quoted on the last page? I'm sure in an alternate world that Quantic got Puma and Lee said the same thing there would have been a similar big thread with lots of people shredding Quantic.

i think everything you just said is completely wrong. everyone everywhere has people who dont like them, its nothing to do with being famous or being #1 in the world, they are a minority because the people in question arent hated people, they are good at a sport. you dont refer to people who hate hitler as the vocal majority of haterz. you call them people who have an opinion 1 way or the other.
when eg acquired puma they didnt have anything special in the marketing department. they got 'ripped to shreds' because they, as experienced business men came across, in the exchanges, as if they were taking advantage of people. now this wasnt a fair description in the end, some people said some things that werent entirely true, and overall people moved on. the lingering distrust towards EG was caused by their treatment of milkis on i think lo3? where they argued against him as if he was on the 'korean side', when he was only there as a translator, they then expected him to defend a position he didnt necessarily hold. this made EG come across as a bully and they only apologised later with 25 caveats on why they werent bad people. they then, to this day, continue to reference the incident as if they werent the bad guys. they are right, the werent the bad guys, until they decided to be dicks to a guy who was just trying to translate between people with a language barrier.
the EG of today does like to promote itself as the premier american team, and i dont think anyone can argue with that. they are by far and away the most successful team in the only way that really matters, money. i dont think anyone whose opinion is worth taking seriously hates eg for that. what fans of eg and fans of competition dislike is the aparant lack of fucks given about winning. this isnt specific to being #1 or even esports, its the same in every sport. fans dont care about the business side of things, they see it as a means to an end, and that end is winning things. the perception these days is that EG has this the wrong way round, they see success as a means to an end, and that end is making more money. whether this is just a disconnect they have, and whether its unfounded is something you would have to ask people about but thats the perception (imo) that leads to a lot of 'hate' coming EGs way.
and dont claim someone must have low self esteem just because they hold a different opinion to you, it just makes you look like a jerk.

Yeah EG sucks so hard. They just won WCS Sweden, had the first American to win an event at SBO, has their dota 2 team playing some great dota as they prepare for The International, and got 2nd at Quakecon. All of this is within the last two weeks too. EG SO BAD.

I must have stumbled upon this.
Since when did he PuMa get called the best? Guys like Artosis? Good thing that's like his opinion man. As for the acquisition and the method behind it. Not so white and black as you make it out to be. Korean teams were used to being closed off to the rest of the world and Lee felt blindsided.
It has nothing to do with how good the player is. It has to do with the logistics and what EG is doing isn't hard when you have the funds they do.
They've made a lot of poor decisions early on with their SC2 division and they simply don't live up to the comparisons they make.
Some people have some really weird perspectives.

No this is where you are wrong. Both Nani and Quantic said the same thing on the lines of its a mutual split everything is good we wish each other luck in the future endeavors blah blah blah.
With the EG/Puma signing you had the coach of TSL screaming about how they stole/tricked Puma from them. etc..
So just by reading a summary of both events at hand which one do you think would cause people to dig at? The problem is there really is no transparency. The people who know inside information especially in this scene keep it to themselves and their inner circles.

I actually said specifically why I was talking about it. You not hearing it or choosing to ignore does not make me dumb.. So a player leaves his team before his contract ends. Both parties say it was on friendly terms. They thank each other publicly. Naniwa goes on a talk show and gives us several reasons for leaving the team. And you want the community to react to this, how exactly? I mean the sc2 community is good at drama and all, but there's not much to work with here. Do you wish for the community to just assume everyone's lying and start speculating wildly instead? Sorry but this comes off as extremely petty. "A bad thing happened to me so it's only fair it happens to everyone else." you missed out the key point that naniwa and sase have both said publicly they wont split up and they will stay on the same team for the foreseeable future I don't think that's relevant at all. I can sympathize with what naniwa said, namely that they were stuck together in a non-english speaking country for several months, which makes them fairly isolated in a sense. He says they did everything together while living under the same roof, so I don't see how them eventually getting on each other's nerves is surprising or even that big of a deal.. well the fact you think it isnt relevant is why youre an idiot ?
he explained himself thoroughly and didn't leave that aspect out of his explanation.

When reading through the community response to all this 'drama' I feel the need to quote a famous caster.
"It's fucking embarrassing" - Tasteless
The sheer amount of ignorance and nastiness displayed by people towards EG and incontrol is truly despicable. Mostly from reddit but a little bit from TL aswell. It all stems from jealousy and a low emotional age.

What community drama? hell there was no mod warning on the thread title of the naniwa leaves quantic thread. There is ignorant people hating on everything and anything in this community; but its like that in damn near every community. The perk of anonymity~

so incontrol was in korea with Naniwa and Sase and knew exactly what was going on?

he wasnt in the startale house he cant comment on what its like!
but seriously, its no secret that incontrol is privy to most of the business dealings of EG. scoots posted on reddit that quantic was trying to offload nani to EG and seemed to be claiming he had dignitas on the other line to push up the money EG were offering. this is the 'lie' incontrol seems to be refering to. i didnt see anything in that post that claimed that what nani has said wasnt true. just that the quantic manager is lying that he was fine with nani just leaving.
