Team EG has announced an exclusive sponsorship with Monster Energy for 2011. This is very big news for StarCraft II and e-sports in general as this is the first time this company has partnered with a professional gaming team. You can read the official press release in the spoiler or visit myEG.net
Also for those wondering whether or not this is the "Big Announcement" I can safely say that it's one of the big announcements coming for EG in 2011.
MONSTER ENERGY® SPONSORS TEAM EVIL GENIUSES FOR 2011
LOS ANGELES, April , 2011 – North America’s premiere professional gaming team and a world leader in eSports - Evil Geniuses (EG) - announced today an official sponsorship with the U.S.’ leading by-volume energy drink sales brand, Monster Energy. This significant relationship marks the first time that Monster Energy has aligned its iconic action sports and hard driving music-associated brand with a professional gaming team.
Monster Energy will join the likes of Intel, SteelSeries, Kingston HyperX, Bigfoot Networks and many other well-known brands in supporting Evil Geniuses in 2011.
“As we continue to advance the growth of professional gaming, it’s essential for us to align with brands that are like-minded and passionate to our vision. We’ve found that in Monster Energy and we’re thrilled for what’s in store for 2011 and beyond,” said Scott Smith, Evil Geniuses’ Chief Executive Officer.
Monster Energy’s Gaming Marketing Manager, Joe Hagofsky, was equally pumped on the groundbreaking sponsorship: "Monster Energy is supportive of and enthusiastic about the growth of professional gaming on a global scale. That's why we've teamed with Evil Geniuses, one of the world's leading professional gaming brands. We're stoked to be a sponsor and help EG continue to stay on top as pro gaming continues its meteoric rise throughout the world."

Congrats to EG! I'm surprised that it took this long for Monster to be more affiliated with gaming since it's one of the popular energy drinks among gamers.
Very cool. Monster has always been my favorite energy drink as far as taste goes (not saying much obviously). Unfortunately it's also completely ineffective at keeping me awake, but I digress.

Wouldn't it be awesome though if EG switched there ID's to Monster-Name.
Lol this is what I was thinking, I absolutely hate monster but since I buy hotpockets, dr. pepper, doritos, and stride, I might as well buy monster rofl :D
Cool announcement though, the whole sponsor thing seems to be taking off of late, doesn't it? Good stuff. Plus the name seems to match to some of their players quite well and the logo could go straight on a hatch so grats all around
Don't know what Monster Energy is (as I'm from SEA) but judging from what you said about this being their first time sponsoring a pro-gaming team, I'm happy to see SC2 really making a difference in the scene.
Monster has always been my fav energy drink. However there are times when I go for the cheaper ones/different tasting ones. Never again. Monster always from now on

Monster Energy sponsors soooooo many extreme sports like skateboarding and so on, and sponsor events, teams, music festivals like Sonisphere
generally they are very active at getting their name out there in sports and other large events and gaining Monster Energy as a sponsor is no small feat by EG.
This is pretty cool for ESPORTS (and EG of course.) Monster is a pretty main steam energy drink. I don't really drink them but I know lots of gamers do, hope they'll choose Monster if all else is equal.

Kidding right?
Monster is breaking into a new market and they are literally a gargantuan lifestyle company exclusively sponsoring a team... it's huge dude o_O

Speaks like a fool. The post means something, lot of companies are looking at eSports. Monster is not just any other company. Well back to the topic, Grats EG and I buy their energy drinks a lot (8 AM classes -.-).

Sry for not knowing my energy drink brands. Dont think we have this one in Norway.

"Kicking it with the bros"... Sorry to get PC here, but being from southern california i can't help but be bothered by that statement. There is nothing envious about being a "bro".
However, i do love seeing some more big names stepping up to sponsor teams. I know the name isn't going to change, but "MonsterGracken" would just reek of awesomeness.
I always love seeing big name sponsors like this. Congrats! Will Monster be considered more of a "main" sponsor? EG already has a crap load on their shirt.
This is just disgusting to hear. There cannot be anything better then big name companies stepping up huge into the world of esports. Can't wait to see more companies follow suit.
Personally I prefer the taste of V, but I have stopped drinking energy drinks regardless. That said, Monster is awesome for sponsoring this. Going to lave some positive feedback right now.
A company like Monster branching out into eSports, that's great! Hopefully they get a great reception from fans. I know I'll be buying Monster whenever I need an energy drink now. Also, a slight name change would allow for more Gracken jokes. Win win?

This is great because Monster has proven to be an incredible sponsor. They are a huge reason motorcross, skating and surfing are able to have full time professional athletes. Great to see them getting into eSports with a great team in EG.
Not the biggest fan of the taste of Monster Energy, but thats really great for EG and pro gaming in general. All the non computer or technical sponsors really help pro gaming! I cant wait for Volkswagen to sponsor Mouz or something ;D
He has been in Korea longer than anyone, and came back because it was too easy He once trolled the entire GSL He made all the abusers out there apologize for playing that race He said zerg was UP before it was cool He is Idra, the most interesting starcraft player in the world: "I don't always drink energy drinks. But when I do, I prefer Monster"
Wow!! Awesome! EG are seriously becoming a good well organised team! Have some TOP class players (Idra Incontrol DeMuslim to name a few) there are definatly becoming a big team, and more announcements due this year? Well i cant wait to hear them!

They should just hook them up with swag for swaggin. Gotta 1 up FXO's team porsche.
No joke, I cracked a monster not 5 seconds before spotting this thread. On the bright side, I now feel like I'm supporting some of my favorite players. On the down side, I'm facing about 20 hours of coding due tomorrow. GO EG!
Cool news :D I don't generally drink energy soft drinks but since Monster supports E-Sports I shall buy a Monster over say V or RedBull or what else have you =)
I cheered for EG when I knew them as one of, if not the best, Canadian CS1.6 team. It's awesome that they have such a great SC team as well. Grats on the sponsor!

I was wondering this, too, never heard of it before. According to wikipedia, it was introduced to Germany last year, but I haven't seen it yet. Not that I would want to drink these toxines, just wondering how wide-spread this is. I can see the large part of the replies are based from NA users; any Europeans recognize this brand?_?

LoL. Germany -> Rewe, Real etc. You can also buy it in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Best energy drink ever btw :p
Edit: Congratz on the sponsorship btw. Great seeing monster jumping into esports.

THIS IS AWESOME! sorry for all caps! great news! I can't wait for Red Bull sponsoring Team Liquid!!! (Red Bull -> bull -> horse, close enough)
this is a very good step forward for e-sports, stride gum, sony ericsson, now monster, more and more companies are getting involved in e-sports, i'm totally buying a monster energy drink tommorow in celebration!
UNLEASH THE BEAST! (iNcontrol and teh gracken) Makes perfect sense haha, monster is a huge sponser I believe. + Show Spoiler +
Hope the monster logo will show up on the EG jersey when they go on sale... was that what you've been waiting on scoots?
Ohya and I do recognize the brand, they have them in the main grocers here. I drink em once a while, I recommend getting the yellow one that says "juice" because it tastes nice and not so chemical as the regular green one. Also it's more of a drink, a bit lighter than most energy drinks but the cans are half a liter so that kinda makes up for it.

wowowow
Never thought I'd read that sentence in an official press release. :lol
Monster is awesome! I have been waiting for them show up in gaming, seems like a good place for them to be seen. Gratz EG, now Idra better control his rage, dont piss of the sponsors now!
Also: The yelllow monster, Ripper, is the best monster drink.
I would buy monster exclusively, but...They put Sucralose in their drinks, ALL of them. Even the ones that have like 12 sodas worth of REAL sugar in them. They are excluding tons of potential customers; personally I'm allergic to artificial sweeteners so I can never buy Monster products. You guys should be careful too, a lot of research is pointing to the idea that Sucralose is very bad for you and can cause all kinds of health problems.I seriously don't understand why they can't have a natural sugar product like Full Throttle or Red Bull.
I like their branding and support of E-sports though, so if they offered a version of Monster that I could actually drink I would buy it.

Here in America the word bro seems to be kind of in vogue right now, so i honestly didn't notice how odd this sentence might seem to non-americans lol. I think monster's branding is focused on seeming sort of indy and hip, like a bunch of buddies who just threw a business together because it seemed fun.
Cool News great for esports and espacially for EG. I was shocked how many different types and flavours(even coffee o_O) Monster Energys got. Here in ma country we only got the normal energy drink and mb a juice variation or so.
Nah, but I love these non-electronic sponsors showing interest in gaming. Shows that e-sports are reaching out to companies that are not directly gaining any income from gaming equipment of software.
Congrats to EG for this awesome sponsor! I don't particularly care for their beverage personally, but there's no denying Monster is a huge company to have as a sponsor
Good Idea actually. Haha this is what I love about the starcraft community. No other community out there woulda contacted a new sponsor and told them they were awesome for helping e-sports ^^

This crap is getting banned in half of Europe and reputation for energy drinks is approaching that of tobacco cigarettes. I remember few years ago when this stuff was everywhere guys started keeling after partying all night on these chemical energy mixes, even children dropped at PE classes, then it just started vanishing from shelves. In countries, where lobbying powers were weak they just instantly banned it, like TL staff does
It's great for EG and it's good for Monster, just make sure you don't drink much of those. Would suck to see my favorite gamers get diabetes, metabolic disorders or cardiac arrest.

do they have fourlokos over there lol alch+caf = now banned
Very impressive. Here's to hoping sponsorship keeps growing along with the growth of SC2 so we can see more teams afford to have some high quality professional teams a la the original Starcraft (Note: not saying teams currently aren't, but they have more growing to do before getting to that level).
Well, looks like I'll be getting Monster whenever I get an energy drink. It's not very often at all, but whatevs! Unless some sort of drink sponsors Lazarus Gaming then Monster it is!
Nothing against EG but Monster energy drinks are not anything I would even consider ingesting. People do realize that someone found a dead rat carcass in their can of Monster energy drink right?
Thinking about it literally makes me want to throw up.

You could fit a small dog in some of the cans monster sells. Who really needs 1.5L of an energy drink?

Yeah great, they found a mouse in a can in a case that has yet to go to court to be substantiated. I read all about that the other day and while it's absolutely disgusting, it still hasn't been proven that it isn't a hoax and the chances of you getting a mouse in your drink are less likely than winning the lottery.
I don't drink them either, but arbitrarily dismissing a product because of a pending court case is pretty goofy.

Every time I see an energy drink sponsoring something I kept going back to the powerthirst video. I'm sure Geoff could run like Kenyans now he got unlimited energy drinks! (insert "no offense" disclaimer here)
Such awesome news. This is great for Esports, and lucky for EG. I hope they get all the monsters they can drink. Every time I'm back in the states I buy a ton of these.

I love Monster energy seriously. I m usually only drinking water and coffee but i love Monster energy and i m totally addicted to it I stopped drinking it now for some time, trying to get super ripped. But the sheer thought of that awesome drink makes me happy!

Even if this isn't fake (almost guaranteed it is), do you know how many bugs you ingest yearly? loooool
It's not fake, but people have started to believe that the world can't have any mistakes, and if anything happens out of the ordinary, it's a HUUUUGGGGEE fucking deal, and all those responsible must be terrible humans not worth their flesh.
Like it or not, animals are found in buildings. This includes rats and mice. And guess what, when your company relies on machines, if a rat falls off a rafter into a vat or can before it's sealed, it's unknown to anyone, but IT HAPPENS. The media has really screwed up this world, and I'm really starting to get sick of it.

While I myself will never drink any energy drink I'm thrilled to see another major corporate sponsor pick up eSports. Maybe with Monster leading the patch a lot of the sponsors of 'extreme sports' like skateboarding etc. will move into eSports.
Yeah i emailed them and they emailed me the same thing almost. Pretty cool and i'm looking forward to drinking endless amounts of monster to stay awake to watch GSL LOL!
First time today drinking Monster Energy and it tastes much better than (local) Bullit and RedBull. At a price of 1,09 euro per 0,5l in the local supermarket I'll always choose Monster over other energy drinks. Gratitude for supporting eSports. I heard in US the brand is huge, in NL not so much. At least I didn't know about it and probably never would if it wasn't for the sponsor deal with EG.
I never knew about the drink before they sponsored EG, then all of sudden I saw a can in a vending machine near my place, I had not seen it before anywhere else, instantly bought it. Now I hope I can find that nice of a deal in some sueprmarket, my 0.5l can was 2€ D=
