I've been filming a lot of stuff from my weekend in Dallas. I'll be uploading most of it after I get home, but here's a little bit that I recorded earlier today, talking about the players coming into Day 3:
I also want to use this thread as a sort of platform for anyone who has questions about the event.
I think the biggest issue coming out of Dallas is the need for LAN support. I don't know how clear its been made on stream, but lag has been a huge issue all weekend long.
Keep an eye on this thread for more videos, and please feel free to post questions and stuffs. I'll be keeping a close eye on it.
Edit:
So Kani wanted me to post these pics of her mack'n on QXC and Day[9]... What a little traitor.

lol, she seems to have developed a bit of a fan following after Edward's interview. I'll be sure to get her on camera to comment on how much she loves the Starcraft community.

We all forgive her for all the coughing on the stream now super hot bro, Best guy in the sc2 Community like you deserves it <3 from all the Zergs
And MrBitter is still adding content... How do you help SC2 Community ? You become MrBitter -D
Well done , awesome 12week show (surely did help me alot ...bronze to plat just with 12 week show and some Day9 Dailys ) And now some awesome interviews. Looking foward to see more from you on upcoming MLGs and other LAN tournys.

Awesome, I love how we kinda get to see the backstage, get a more 3d experience of the MLG than just following the official show. I think this has alot of potential, I hope you evolve this concept even more for the other tournaments you will visit.
And also that girl is smoking hot. Had to be said. Well played sir.
Big ups for all the work you put into all this mr bitter ! 12 weeks with the pros + mlg stuff.. very rich contribution to the sc2 community ! thanks !!!! <3
Thanks for the footage, nice to see some of those guys. However, I can't help but point out how different you sound in these videos compared to your stream. The stream voice is (to me, at least) smoother and calmer and has a slightly different tone to it. Still, you have a great voice and you provide excellent content on the stream. Greatly appreciate your work!
Amazing coverage! Great interview questions too. HuK and Tyler, hilarious pair. Nazgul looks like he was once a scientist. Sees through the glasses of maturity.

Mr. Bitter, did you get any of Vile? =)
I didn't get a chance to talk to anyone from Vile, SixJax, or Dignitas.
I'll definitely be out and about tonight, though, so who knows, maybe I'll come back with a few more interviews from the after party.
Now, y'see, this is why you don't fuck with Fayth's probability skills. The guy made a perfect 3/3 LB on the top 3 for MLG. Holy damn that's impressive.
On April 04 2011 10:53 Hurlbag wrote: Great interviews Bitter, loved watching em. Is this the first tournament you've played in btw? how were you feeling up on stage if it was?
This was my first offline Starcraft tournament.
I felt great. No nerves at all for my first couple games, but eventually (as in like 3rd round, lol) I ran into players that I knew, and who I had never beaten before, and that's when the nerves kicked in.
Funny how that works....
I didn't play on stage. Maybe for Columbus my play will be strong enough for that kind of thing.
Thanks for the videos, loved the pre-registration talk was curious about the predictions of the top 3, but I guess should have expected most teams will obviously say their players will win (I'd do the same ofc). Somme did correctlly predict Naniwa and Kiwikaki in top 3, or Naniwa and Select in top 3.
It's always so strange to match the faces with the voices I hear on streams. I had never imagined Edward, Sundevil, or Fayth looked like that.
i figure everyone including myself pictures fayth as a girl because of that damn medivac portrait
on a side note it's surprising how many people picked Naniwa.. I feel like I follow sc2 enough at least for the NA tournaments and I thought nani played T because I confused his name with Naama's... just haven't heard almost anything about him but the pros knew he had a good shot of winning
Could you beat the dead horse of LAN some more please?
SC2 will be fine without it because of people like you making videos. If you want LAN for SC2, go learn how to program and do it yourself or crusade for everyone to stop playing it. Because that is the only way it is going to happen. You know why? Because SC2 has been pretty damn successful so far, it's practically a case study on why a game doesn't need LAN to succeed as a competitive game.

why are you harping on him for talking about lan? yeah he wants lan, let him speak his mind. and did you seriously watch what happened on MLG day 2? you really think that lan would not have helped the shit that happened?

You are the type of gamer that is allowing companies like EA and Activision to shit all over customers
Whether or not the game needs lan, players want it. Tournament hosts want it. Pro gamers want it. Stream viewers want it.

LAN is something that anyone interested in E-Sports should be fighting for because LAN is the fairest way to play a tournament that is supposed to decide who is the best player. When a better player accidentally their entire army because of a lag spike, that's unfair, and I would go so far as to call it unacceptable for a game that the designers CLAIM to have designed from the ground up with E-Sports in mind.
SC2's success is not a case study on why a game doesn't need LAN, it's a case study of how the sequel to the game that put E-Sports on the map can ride that momentum so long as the game itself is well-designed. It's a case study on how passionate gamers can dedicate themselves to something even if it's flawed. It's a case study on how the growth of E-Sports in general is making the competition an acceptable form of entertainment in mainstream society. But, the lack of LAN support also has the potential to be a scene killer. If things don't get better, and players get fed up and stop playing, the E-Sports scene dies. Mind you, the door is open for another company to make a great RTS WITH LAN and give Blizzard a well-deserved kick in the nuts as well.

no thanks it's putting lan in starcraft was figured our over a decade ago

Does anyone know what happened on day 2? The main stage computers were consistently lagging while the rest seemed quite fine. It is doubtful that LAN would help in a situation like that. SC2 could really use LAN but it's also become an excuse for any sort of poorly managed/setup tournament computers.
From a troubleshooting standpoint it is really hard to imagine a situation where MLG wasn't at fault for day 2. Somehow only those two computers had connection problems and it was outside of their hands? Unlikely. If the computers themselves were at fault, switch them out. If the connection was getting bogged down with so many games running, cut out the no stage computers before the main stage. If there was a problem with the cable to those computers, re-run it. If they were using wireless, wtf. Very, very unlikely LAN would of helped but I'd like to hear if someone has inside information on what happened, I doubt MLG even wants it to be known.
Really like the interviews and I would say these interviews are some of the best ones I've seen so far for esports/sc2. The background interviews with the players are very good. It's nice to put a face to players I watch and root for. Keep up the good work and looking forward to your videos for MLG Columbus :D.

Wh...what?
"Learn how to program, and do it yourself" ?
Is that seriously your argument? Did you not see what happened this weekend? It doesn't need LAN to succeed, but not having LAN is undeniably hurting this game. Apparently we don't have the right to ask for things that have been the norm in PC gaming for over a decade.
Also great job spitting in the face of the content provider, then complimenting him afterwards. You certainly could've voiced your discontent in a more amicable, less petulant fashion if you really appreciate the coverage he gives.
Great interviews Mr. Bitter! I loved all the interviews.
The only I could ask for would be more in depth with individuals on their games a little more but I compeltely understand asking everyone similar questions.
Hope to see more and will probably see you in Columbus actually!
I find it funny how everyone serious about a top 3 got Naniwa in there, even if they knew he had to go through the open. And Fayth actually got his predictions right I think :D
more sick content out of the guy who has brought insane amounts of help to zergs in trouble. Keep it up, we really neeed it (its not like we play protoss )
Just in case you don't know who the first guy you lost to is he's actually ridiculously good (I know he used to be top 200 but I'm not sure if he still is or not). Don't worry, I didn't tell him about the infestors (but when I asked him after the match he said you went infestors both games lol).
I won round 1 2-1, lost round 2 1-2, and lost in losers bracket 0-2 but I'm giving you most of the credit for me actually winning a round. Kinda sucks that I either had to play ZvZ or I got 4 gated but... I probably could have won all of those games if I was like 3% better so instead I just get to be bitter.\
On my drone scout every ZvZ I could hear Dimaga in my head like... "he goes gas then pool, so he lose" and I would laugh every time.

I've actually practiced with Binskski (or however you spell it) in the past, and have never taken a game off of him...
That sorta' rattled me a bit when I sat down. Literally, the last time I played against him, he forgot to research siege mode, and still just a-moved into me to win.
Between the nerves, and that psychological edge he sorta had on me, I just didn't play for shit, man. Missed overlords, made bad decisions... Poor games in general, imo.
Mr. Bitter are you going to other MLGs ? Im sure you will do better if you go, just because I think a first timer at an event like that with expectations (mostly your own) you probably can't really put into perspective will always have a bigger effect on you than you think.
Hell even a lot of the good players first time in GSL was a huge nervous mess.

Love your work, keep it up!
I will (hopefully) be at every MLG event this year. Anaheim is currently the only one that I'm not certain about.
You'll be doing something in the future for terran/protoss players too? I really like the '12 weeks with the pro's ', but since I'm not a zerg player I didn't learn anything new for my race ;-)

The next season of the show will cover all 3 races.
During the first 6 weeks we will have at LEAST one episode per week for Terran, and at LEAST one episode per week for Protoss.
After 6 weeks, we'll add at LEAST one Zerg episode as well.
It's going to be sick sick sick sick sick. Can't wait!

Thats awesome but how can you fit yourself as a zerg player in it?
I mean to you want to play off race (with mixed results i could imagine hehe...) or do you rather act as some kind of host?

Awesome stuff MrBitter! I can't believe I didn't this thread till now. I'll have to watch everything when I get home from work. This sort of content is awesome, I love getting a look into the events, like what's actually going on away from the main stage. When Artosis uploads videos from GSL prelims, or people put up vids/pics from events they attend, it's really fun to see. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to an MLG event!
