You can find the full list of the SC2 competitors for this major LAN tournament in the spoiler tag below (Geoff likes horses). The top 16 players are also included in this list but can be found below by their groups and also a list of notable players.

The stream will kick off Friday, Apr 01 10:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) over at http://www.majorleaguegaming.com and the Low Quality version will NOT be using Octoshape but the high-quality will and myself, djWHEAT and Day[9] will be commentating.

I can't wait to see MLG's physical setup for SC2 as far as more seating and relative placement goes. Sure, anything is an improvement from last year, but with all the hype about "changes" and higher investment in SC2, this season is sounding awesome

My understanding is that in order to play in the $50k national championship at the end of the year they have to qualify on point from the first 5 events. Thus, these players are investing!

The 50k end of the year tournament is also open i believe, but being a top 16 seed for it makes it much much easier to have a shot at winning it. The first 5 events determine seeding ,but the National championship should also have an open bracket

Nope. From Liquipedia, "The MLG Pro Circuit is a series of live events running throughout 2011. By participating in these events, players score points depending on their results. The players with the most points will be invited to a final Pro Circuit event for a chance at even more prize money." Source: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit
This means NO open bracket for the Nation Championship. Obviously, MLG wants the players to compete in all their events so that they can build hype and keep the best players from sniping the last event.

Anyways, I hope everyone in the SC2 community comes out to compete this season. To clarify a post earlier, NATIONALS IS NOT CLOSED TO TOP 8. Rank points will be used from the season to give extreme bracket benefits to those with the most points, but anyone will be able to compete at the end of the season.
The liquipedia is wrong unless they have completely 180 on what they announced in February.

Okay, I think I have a definitive answer now from MLG directly:
I guess I will have to update the Liquipedia article :p Sorry, for the misinformation! It will be interesting to see what they mean when they say "extreme" advantage, since the regular season Top 16 already have pretty big leg-up. Maybe triple-elimination? LOL!

Cons are many people simply can't get it to work and are forced to catch restreams or just simply skip it.
Pros it allows them to stream directly out of the venue, easy set up for them.

Con: It can be a real pain to get it running your PC at home (might have even more problems on MACs, dunno), some people can't get it running at all.
Pro: Some MLG official (can't remember wether it was Lee or Sundance) said that it is the easiest thing to use on their end when hosting live tournaments and providing several streams at the same time and stuff... Not a pro at stuff like that, but that's how I remember it.

Another "Pro" is that it generates a kinda p2p connection for people watching, making the quality of the stream skyrocket.

Another pro, It doesn't buffer like other streams and the quality of the stream adapts depending on your connection.

Because MLG doesn't think they're notable.
Or it could be that 3 of the 4 were already listed above in the groups comprising the top 16, with Haypro rounding things out in the "notable players" list (which you'll note doesn't include anyone from the top 16).
Anyone know of any other streams using this "new octoshape" I would like to test it out before getting the HQ stream due to issues from previous use of octoshape

I can tell you that I tested it this week and it seems to be working really well for me. A nice feature I wanted to let everyone know, the standard stream will NOT require the octoshape plug-in. HQ stream, however, will require the Octoshape plug-in.
So much work this weekend, but this has me fully excited!! Grubby, NaNiWa, and all the usual suspects fighting! This looks like one hell of a tournament.
I'm not sure whether or not to take Athene's entrance as legit or not. He's such a troll, but he could actually be really good. He was legit a great WoW arena player (in the era(s) when Arena skill was at least measureable and relevant) so perhaps he has invested time into becoming a good SC2 player?
Who knows? I sure as hell don't. But if he's actually good, then omg, callmeexcited.
Really looking forward to MLG this season, especially seeing the top16 brackets and how they will play out as well as the new Venue for spectators. Thanks for posting this JP.
I hope Destiny preforms well, if only to get some respect in the pro scene. I really think anyone who writes him off as an easy win will be surprised by how much he has improved in the past few months. I would also love to see iNcontroL place high! Even though he hasn't done his best to "justify" his NASL spot, I really think he deserves it. Hopefully he can show us how well he can play when hes at his best.

Go Slush and Kiwi!! Also, I thought Minigun said he wasn't going... hmm. Anyway, it will be interesting to see all the new players as well... though I wonder how many might get cheesed out. Hopefully it goes smoothly, and the players who deserve to get further do in fact get through.

Idk how good he may be at dota but he's not that good at LoL. Most likely he'll get a youtube partnership and make troll videos for random game tournaments. His name does draw a lot of attention tho, viewers are viewers from an organizer's standpoint.
Obviously Athenes won't show up, the only thing he's able to do in SC2 is beat insane AI. We all know KiWiKaKi was playing on his "AtheneWins" account.

What do these "pools" ABCD for the top16 mean? Can someone explain me the tournament system or post a link. I can;t really find it on the MLG website! Thx
I can't wait for athene to get his face smashed, he spews nonsense like being rank #1 in Europe. The "evidence" he uses is a page displaying him rank #1 in his div; that does not =/= rank #1 in Europe.
I really think a tournament environment will show his true colors.

Athene?? What is going on? Im 100% sure it was not him actually playing in the ladder and in recent video he said he "moves on" and drops sc2 for LoL/HoN. Either this is someone else who stole his nick or some kind of followup trolling.. trolling nonetheless.

Surely they can't give his seeded spot back at this point? That would be cruel to gretorp and it would also mess up all the groups
No idea how they'll handle it. Worst case, Huk buys a player pass at the door and does the open bracket thing. I gotta imagine there are some conversations happening behind the scenes about how to handle this.
HuK will be given the #1 seed in the open bracket because he did not confirm his participation earlier. And it would be wrong of MLG to kick Gretorp from the group and put him in the open bracket plus, seeding have to be completely redone and groups would be different, since everyone would shift one seed down.

Hahaha, I love how this just serves to confuse even more. Good luck though! Really looking forward to HuK just destroying a bunch of open players before taking on the top players.

OMG this, I wonder if he'll call CrunCher a "walkover" again lol But I'M totally his Fan though and I am Seriously hoping he wins! If not the MLG, than at least against him!
And the list looks great, the tournament should be great. Putting Huk in the open maybe provide some fun replays. I agree with some of the posters though, more europeans would have been great.
i had not heard of vibe until the other night when he played on top200 koth. he had like a 6 or 7 win streak against a lot of good players and made some of them look like complete noobs ... vibe's play was sick ^^
It's not April Fools day anywhere unless there's some secret country that nobody knows about that's two full days ahead of the rest of the planet. So...possibly Lichtenstein.
Glad Huk's coming, and yeah- as if the Open Bracket wasn't already interesting enough
Have the MLG staff commented on what they are going to do to prevent crowd/cast noise being heard by the players? Sorry if its been posted before, I just figured I'd have heard about it if so.

It really isn't as bad as you think, plus with the #1 seed in the open bracket will help him out as well.

I dare to say it is much worse than you think. Especially as there are surprisingly many good players in the open bracket. It might be even more stacked than the top 16.
Going through this open bracket all the way to the final rounds will be a pure test of stamina, especially with the excellent MLG map pool that provides long games. Getting knocked down in the loser bracket early would be a pure nightmare.
edit: Btw arent there some of the top players in the open bracket unseeded as they didnt play the qualifier?

Sure, he will be facing some great players in the open bracket.. isn't that why most people go to compete anyway? HuK will be facing low seeded players throughout the first 2 rounds excluding the by 1st round. Whereas the Top 16 players are playing in groups to determine where they'll be placing in the bracket. With that being said, yes you are somewhat correct.. it will be a bit tougher for him in the Open Bracket than being in the Top 16 groups, but the gap isn't as wide as you're making it seem.
In the past few MLG's we didn't get brackets even when the tournament started. They had their referees announcing matchups and people would play but when spectators went on smartphones and stuff, there were never brackets online until like a round or two in, I hope they can release the brackets as the tournament starts if not a little earlier this year.

also checksixboo an old halo player? and is KingSpades VTspades did he leave vt?
TimeliestBrute is yes. CheckSixBoo isn't no. Spades is still in VT, they register the list the players names by their forum name signed up at MLGpro.com. "KingSpades" is just his forum name.

HuK entered after the post was made, idra just doesn't have EGIdrA as username on the MLG page.

Ah ok, I was worried for a moment. Here's to hoping we'll get a Cruncher v Idra game at some point!
Hmm I'm confused, I remember reading that the pool play consists of 4 groups of 4 but there will also be 4 more players coming from the open bracket to the pool play to make the groups because 4 groups of 5. Did I read wrong?
Actually that's exactly what Raelcun said about Sheth when he heard that he wanted to come to a LAN party, and apparently Sheth did attend the LAN party, so I have high hopes of him entering and participating in MLG this time round :D

No, that's correct. The 4 players who remain in the winner's side of the open bracket after 6 rounds will join the groups on Saturday.

Who knows? I sure as hell don't. But if he's actually good, then omg, callmeexcited.
Oh baby!!!, i really love this set up a bunch. I hope Catz is able to pull through out of the Open bracket, and the IdrA will at least get out of his group. It is going to be tough for everyone, but as long as there are some amazing matches, it will all be good!!
Beeing a rank1 gladiator at WoW does require you to have the same gaming sense/reflexes/etc as you need to be a high masters in sc2, I'm currently both. (But obviously sc2 is way more micro/macro intense, you cant compare these games) It´s the same with every game out there, if you are going to be better than a few million players you do need alot of things, regardless if this game is generally easier to handle than some other game.
Anyway, anyone who played wow at a serious level like myself knows that athene is only in it for the show, he never played his account in World of Warcraft, he had other extremely high ranked players play his account to rank1 and maintain it there (I knew the player that played for him, i was also on Cyclone)
..And already have i heard rumors of the same thing about his sc2 account, which makes me ponder about him going to an online tourny, but for all we know he might have been playing sc>sc2 undercover, either way its going to be interesting.
but all in all, he was just in it for the show when it came to WoW, he never played his chars.
Can anyone tell me how the MLG spectating arrangements work? Is there enough seats or should I bring chairs or is it standing only? Last time I went to MLG it was pretty lame, but that was back in the Halo 2 days. It was just in a hotel meeting room not a convention center so obviously it is much bigger now. I can't wait for tomorrow!

EG.IdrA is seeded, therefore not on the list.
Idra1 is some random guy calling himself, well, idra, but obviously a fake.

You are wrong. Idra1 is actually Idra as you can see that all the players that are seeded are also re-listed in the full list. He also played with that ID that last 2 MLGs

False. IdrA1 is the name he used to sign-up on the mlgpro forums, therefore when he registered for the Tournament, it shows up as "IdrA1" and not just his nickname "IdrA".
I thought Destiny and Minigun weren't coming..but are listed there? I could have swore all weak on stream minigun has been like...no 18 hour drive not going. Is he?

On last night on GSL, when Tasteless was pimping MLG Dallas with a splash page, he mentioned that Liquid'HuK was going to attend.
It sounded like it was a last minute decision because he got knocked out of the World Championship in the first round and he played on the first day of that round.
HuK should be seeded #1 due to points. But does this mean that he gives up his seeded spot? Does he now have to participate in the large pool like everyone else? (Is it true that he's even going to be at Dallas?)
Thanks.
edit: Eh... Maybe I should read this thread first. Looks like someone already asked.

I'm looking forward to see if Athene can perform under pressure. From what I know of him, everything he's done in the gaming scene so far gives him a lot of trial n' error time or grinding time (yes, the rank 1-run too, he's allowed to lose and come back unlike in a tournament). If he gets through this he'll insta-prove that he's a force to be reckoned with I'd say.
if it wasn't for the twitter ticker I'd be sleeping right now... I mean I know it's a free stream and all, but srsly... the preparation for such an event -_-... if they want me to install this octoshape crap then they oughta try a little bit harder >_< GG
