Hmm... I thought the last Dreamhack had around 2000 seats and now it has less? Maybe I have my numbers wrong... but if not, that is a strange decision. In any event they have the stream obviously... so I'm looking forward to this event. The booths look cool and the players so far are great!

What you're thinking of is probably the Dream Arena they have for tournaments they run on the side of the normal LANs party they have. (see wiki for how large the lanpartys are). This is their first time trying to do anything like this as far as I know, in central Stockholm on sort of short notice no less.

450 seats for an event of this magnitude does seem somewhat low, no wonder they sold out 3 weeks in advance...but hey, I managed to grab a ticket early on so no complaints from me!

As far as I can tell they won't break even on renting the locale from the cost of tickets (maybe they got a good deal and break even). Then you have the price money and so on and it is a big net loss.

Well, that's part of my point...since the demand seems to be exceeding supply, it would've been more profitable to host the event in a larger venue, where the cost per seat for the organizers would be lower.

Imo the two most obvious invites are WhiteRa, Morrow and hopefully Ret due to Assembly win but it might seem a little favored for Liquid if they have 3 out of 8 players so maybe not. If Ret is invited I doubt its Nestea and more likely Mvp, Boxer or Ace(due to IEM win).

However I don't think any race will have more then 3 representatives so with Huk, MC and probably Whitera that's all the P's they can have in my mind.

So all things considered here is my shot in the dark for the last 4.

5. Whitera
6. Morrow
7. Mvp (will accept invite if only to try to stop MC from winning).
8. Ret, Boxer or Nestea (hard to pick last spot and Boxer kind of means any popular Korean Terran player).

So wish I could go, its only 3 hours by train from where I live but no way I can go

It feels like DH is experimenting with how the sc scene evolves and reacts to these sort of events this year. Starting out with a invitational to see the demand to then scale up later. It makes sense to start safe and not go all in only to crash and burn.

You have to remember DH is venturing onto complete unknown territory, this is their first tournament+spectator only event (on this scale at least, correct me if I'm wrong). They always had their lanpartys as their main event before.

Good point, it's not easy to make a good estimate of the turnout when it's the first such event for the organizers and Sweden. Given how quickly it sold out I think we can expect more in the future though.

With this being MCs first apperence outside Korea it's a shame that the event was not able to meet the demand for seats. Just think if this would be held on a saturday, with people being able to travel from outside the Stockholm area.

I guess that the stream will be under great pressure from viewers, hoping on a star commentator a la day[9], tastless, artosis for this + the HD stream from DHW10. Stock up on bandwith Dreamhack, this night will break the internet!

The demand must be a real indicator for Dreamhack, and AMD, that Starcraft 2 really is getting big and draws a big crowd. AMD has made a smart move to get behind this, worth every spent dollar!

At DHW11 they must use that hockey arena they talked about during DHW10, they need at least 5-6 thousand seats if the line up is going to be this good. And there is nothing to indicate a worse line up at the big tournament.

Edit:

For those attending the event

Updated with the three more players. Welcome to Stockholm TLO, MorroW and White-Ra. Now there is only one more player to be presented. I wonder who it can be =D

I must say this event is very carefully prepared. The invites is optimal for crowd gathering purposes, the venue was small enough to more or less guarantee a sold out event. In retrospect, the DreamHack crew probably wishes it would have booked a larger venue, but with a first time event like this you'd rather play it safe.

So sick. Really want to take the trip from Oslo.

Several events should take notice of DreamHack. Everything seems freaking stellar.

I hope they don't invite Boxer, they should go with Nestea instead.

Last one has to be huge with the order they've announced this in. I'm guessing Boxer.
