During the Swedish E-sport Talkshow "Rakt på med Rakaka" Rakaka together with Logitech presented that we will host Rakaka Logitech Starcraft 2 Tournament. The winner of the tournament will get a payed trip to South Korea and live in the GSL House and compete in the GSL for one month (with possibilities to extend the stay). The trip back and forth to South Korea plus money for subsistence with a total value of 15 000 SEK is what's up for grabs provided by Logitech. There will also be product prizes from Logitech Gaming Gear for top three placers.
This is a Sweden only tournament and the purpose is to create the "next Jinro" to represent Swedish E-sports in the number one Starcraft country South Korea in the best and most competitive Starcraft 2 league in the world, GSL.The winner will be able to decide when during the summer when he wants to attend, so it will not be strict into specific dates. The player will represent himself and his organization, Rakaka and Logitech is only hosting the tournament.
Ten players will be invited and two open qualifiers will be organized. The main tournament will be divided into two groups with six players of round robin, BO3. More information about rules, maps and the invited players will be announced later.
Aslo worth mentioning is that the whole Tournament by Rakaka and Logitech will be promoted nationally in Sweden in electronic stories like Webhallen.
The tournament will be casted in Swedish by Rakaka Live that has casted mainly Counter-strike 1.6 prior to this event on all kinds of different event such as IEM CeBIT World Championship, Dreamhack Winter and Summer together with partners as MSI and Asus. The commentators will be the host Slop3, tournament organizer Hellspawn and expert commentators Naniwa and LaLush. (replays will be publicized for English casters after each day.)

I feel like Naniwa might deserve it though,. he's been great in the Gosu Coaching League lately!
As per usual foreigners in Korea are considered Korean unless they're facing Koreans in which case they are foreigners.
*This post is a copy of my post in another, obviously not official, thread*
So great! Although some players might favor NASL/EU tourneys over this. Just the experience of having been to Korea and played will help a lot, even though the winner might not make it in to code S.
I can add, that during the live show "Rakt på med Rakaka"(Straight on with Rakaka) where the tournament was announced, they also mentioned that the winner will get the opportunity to live in a 'real' Korean progaming house for a couple of days or so, like oGs, ST etc. and that depending on how GOM deciedes to do regarding invites, the player might get a direct invitation to code A, like they gave Huk, haypro etc.
They seem to be very serious and have an official agreement with GOM, making all this very legit.
Some players to consider for the invites:
Lalush Naniwa (prolly invited due to their casting assignments)

Thats pretty huge. If you think about it its an all expenses paid holiday to korea for 1 month. Housing is provided by gom and logitech gives you spending money. Pretty sweet deal even if you dont get far in code A.
SjoW vs MorroW Those two have practicly been dominating the domestic scene. Also interested in seeing ThorZaIN NevaKee Seiplo Bischu Edit Jimpo MaDFroG. He rode his wc3 fame for a while, he's average at most. Don't expect anything from him.
Just wanted to note, since people in the other thread have been talking about "doing in Code A", the winner gets his trip paid to try qualifying for Code A. Whether he manages it is another story. Or, who knows, maybe he'll even get one of the four foreign seeds, surely they can't seed the same teamliquid guys twice in a row (without showing any good results in other tournaments)?
I almost will be surprised if Morrow doesn't take this - he has a tendency to step up for big opportunities like this. That is, if he wants to go to korea...

Lalush is one of my favorite zergs and he's been playing very well lately. Can't wait to hear him casting - hopefully in a very biased way. Artosis doesn't seem to be zerg biased anymore and I'm missing it

What's it with the Madfrog hate? The guy is grinding his ass off on bnet, came up with some very impressive and unconvetional stuff and was in korea for wc3 where he ripped heads off.

I'm sorry if it comes of like hate, It really wasn't my intention. Madfrog was a great wc3 player, but that is off-topic. When he switched to sc2 alot of people just generaly assumed that he would be good at it. I watched vods / replays and realised he really wasn't anything, an opinon shared by those of my friends which i discussed his games with. After a while I started getting a bit annoyed with blizzard fanboying him and "the name fans" + Show Spoiler +
people who doesn't actually have a clue about players skill but they hear their names and goes "oh yeah that guy is pro, I know this because I heard his name a couple of times"
fueled by blizzards propaganda kept his name spinning.
I mentioned this now because I know some of those "name fans" will read this thread and post his name amongst the list of contenders. What I wanted was to spread light to the fact that contrary to blizzard beliefs... He really isnt anything. I don't hate, I am neutral.

Madfrog has been inactive for several weeks already. My guess is that he doesn't like the current state of the game and he's not motivated to practice. All zergs on Europe have a hard time and no one showed consistent results in a long time. I've been watching all Madfrog replays when he was active and he had a unique style indeed - maybe not the most effective strategies but it was different from other zergs; of course it was small things mostly, since it's hard to have much variety as a zerg player. I wish he would come back but he needs tons of practice in order to win this tournament.
Sweden is such a beastly RTS country. I just don't understand how you guys are so awesome -- I thought you were awesome before and now you turn into SC2 gods? No fair, Sweden, no fair.
Love this tournament idea. GSL berth tournaments seem like they'll become pretty major and regular events because of the "top international performers get in" thing that GSL set up. I'm really liking how that has started to impact the scene. The tournaments are all separate but interconnected in some ways at the same time.
This is gonna be awesome. Also it makes me notice which players are from sweden too besides jinro and morrow. I know nothing XD
Sometimes I wish stuff like that happened were I could participate. Then I remember I´m lazy as fuck and wouldn´t win anyway^^
I think Morrow played better when he was T. I know he said he has more fun playing as Z, but I think it´s more because he played T for business and Z for hobby. Hobby>Business always. Whatever. I´m also interested in how far the swedish guys make it, who got into TSL. Thorzain and the other guy. If he wins I´ll probably remember his name^^
Fascinating and interesting news to say the least. My prediction for who's gonna take it will just have to be MorroW. I feel like he really deserves a shot in Korea.
GL to all my fellow Swedes. Listening to the stream will be hella fun :>
I actually think Sjow would have better chances in Korea, compared to MorroW. Sjow just has a playstyle, that if practiced in the proper environment, could be perfect for GSL.
MorroW is absolutely solid, and there's no doubt that he would become amazing in Korea too, but I just get a better feeling from Sjow.

not including nani in any "list-of-swedish-players" is beyond ridiculous
I really hope Sjow takes it, goes to Korea, gets to see first hand what kind of commitment it takes to be really good and gets his shit straight. He could be so amazingly good at SC2 if he had the Korean style practice regime.
Best of luck to all of the players who will be participating, I hope that the marketing through webhallen and mediamarkt will pull alot of people and make this a very big event.
This is a big announcement. Really great idea of Rakaka.se. Would love to see something like this for germany or the russian region (probably poland, ukraine etc). We need more foreigners in the GSL!
would really love to see Morrow @ GSL!
Edit: Eventhough it's a little bit disappointing for me that the whole event isnt casted in english. This one-day-delay for english casters makes it less interesting for me, because it's impossible to avoid spoilers
I hope Morrow gets it, not because im even a fanboy, but because his work ethic is outrageous and out of all the players in europe I think he would be somoene that would impress me on a regular basis in GSL with solid play.
I hope Sjow, Morrow, or Naniwa takes this as I feel they're the best players currently living in Sweden (and conveniently the each play a different race). If one of them wins and really dedicates themselves to improving as much as possible the second they get to Korea, I think they'd have a good shot at doing pretty well.
So nani isn't playing? Sweden doesn't have any other good protoss' except possibly bischu, so I would be very very surprised in morrow didn't take this. If he wants to go, that is.

Sase is quickly becoming a massive beast, been nr1 world for last like month, hes a massive dark horse for this
Does anyone know if nani is competiting?, his style really suits korea imo
Even tho i don't like Morrow that much, i'd like to see his performance in the GSL/korean ladder. But Sjow should get this opportunity. By far one of the best players in Eu/swe. After Jinro of course

Thats because Artosis swithced to protoss did he not?
I'm pretty sure MorroW doesn't graduate from high school until june, so I doubt he'll even want to go to Korea, but who knows. It's kind of disappointing that two of the better players are casting, as it would've been nice to see them in the tournament Is it possible to watch this live (live as in IRL, not on a live stream) somewhere, or is it an online tournament? Great sponsors as well. Webhallen is such an awesome store for everything gaming related. This is so awesome for the Swedish scene as well, as I feel it's one of the very best in Europe. I'm so pumped for this!
edit: Oh I didn't read the dates properly. Go go morrow to korea!

LaLush and NaNiwa will have possibilities to attend the tournament, they aren't restricted to only cast games. Who knows maybe they even are invited.

Since he's born 92 he should end high school at the end of may/beginning of june, but I guess you noticed that already. :p
Also, it's Logitech that brought up the idea to do this tournament, it's really nice when there's people within big companies that tries to make something like this.

Yeah I assumed the tournament was gonna take place like next week or something, and that the tickets are set to a specific date. I guess I'm just tired ^^. I wonder if it's a good investment to go to Korea though. I mean you won't live in a team house where everyone more or less is working together, but in a scattered house where everyone is fighting against eachother for different teams. Especially considering all the huge tournaments popping up in the west now as well, it seems like staying might be a better option.

No point because they will probably cast it in "swenglish" and it's gonna sound fucking terrible if you're a native swedish speaker. I guess it's the same for like germans when casters cast in german.

Nah, I think we (the Swedish) are the only people embarrassed to hear our own native tongue used for things like this. Everyone else is like "Ohh this makes it so much easier to understand."
Morrow, Sjow and Naniwa are the best players in Sweden imo, rooting for Morrow cuz I think his style would fit quite nice in Korea and he would get good results.

Ok for your information we have easily one of the 4 best hockey teams in the world, we're usually around the quarter finals in the European championships in football, in the 2010 olympics we earned 8 medals and about 25% of the population actively engaged in a sport. We pretty easily have the highest ratio of pro players / capita in the world outside of south korea..

Hanging out in front of their PCs 24/7? Not a real sports-country? Not true at all.
Also, Sweden is not only good in RTS, but also probably one of the best (if not the best) fps country. Anyone following the biggest fps esport out there (counter strike) will second this.

Sweden has always done decently in many sports. For instance Ping-pong, soccer, and pretty much all winter sport. Do I sense a tad bit of jealousy or are you just ignorant?

Yeah well 10% of the country plays football actively, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the best players in the world. Barcelona bought him for 69 million euroes. That's a pretty good player, and basically what keeps the team up. I can start namedropping players playing for various clubs in Europe, but frankly it's not even relevant. Don't bash on a country unless you know what you're talking about. It's considered rude.
Edit. Lolz sorry about that. I'm kinda slow today I guess. Sorry for feeding the troll.

What? Sweden is not a real sports-country? A quote from Wikipedia "Sport is considered a national pastime in Sweden, and about half of the population actively takes part in sports activities." Besides sports and computer gaming is not mutually exclusive you know.
But yes, Sweden is the one of the most connected countries. 92% of people have access to internet. Which might be the most in the world still. Why Sweden has more and better players in computer games probably has to do with more and better IT infrastructure for much longer than most other countries, spurred on by in part by the government earlier than in other countries. (not just broadband access but also home computers which were subsidized between mid 90ies up until 2005ish)

Thats what i meant. Why you guys thought "hanging in front of their PC 24/7" was a provocation?I mean why France or the UK arent such big esports-country like germany or sweden? Or why the USA doesnt rule SC2?Have you ever been at the Gamescom in Cologne Germany? I guess there were more Gamers than ive every seen in my life before.(or the DH as well) and the Brits are too busy with their soccer and consoles. and i talked to some americans as well and now i understand it even more. I just wanted to explain it but some weird proud swedes wanted to defend their country.it was not necessary at all. Its not about a special "Skill-DNS" its more the infrastructure and the amount of interessted PC-Gamers.Thats what you said correctly. But dont take it as a provocation but sweden is not the strongest sports-nation in general but thats another (not that relevant )point but better lets get back to the topic here
I expect they arranged this with GOM in order to secure accommodation (and a code A qualification bye?). Assuming so, it is quite cool to see GOM cooperate with organizations outside of Korea to encourage foreign participation.
I am surprised no one else picked up on the prize amount. 15,000 SEK is less than 2,500 USD. I am surprised that amount can cover round trip airfare AND sustenance for a player.

Im assuming the cost of living in Korea is lower? I dont know for sure so dont quote me on that ^^

I wish they would cast these games in English. I dont know any Swedish gamers that cant speak English so casting it in Swedish isn't beneficial for the majority of people who wish to view this event.

Its because everyone got internet there and many hanging in front of their PCs 24/7 and Sweden its not a real sports-country so they keep playing games. and thats why sweden is the second biggest esports-country in europe and not france and the uk. pretty easy.

I am surprised no one else picked up on the prize amount. 15,000 SEK is less than 2,500 USD. I am surprised that amount can cover round trip airfare AND sustenance for a player.
Im assuming the cost of living in Korea is lower? I dont know for sure so dont quote me on that ^^
For the guys fanatically defending Sweden's honor against ttomelle the belgian guy, you should chill out. Its okay to correct someone but then to use it as some kind of bragging tool too seems kinda lame to me. You guys need some humble pie!
I wish they would cast these games in English. I dont know any Swedish gamers that cant speak English so casting it in Swedish isn't beneficial for the majority of people who wish to view this event.
I agree on that point, it's gonna sound lame if they cast in swedish. Since english is our second languge and almost all gamers uses it on a regular basis I don't see the point of a swedish cast. Also there is some gap in translation I think so it's probably will be a mix of english and swedish.
However this event will be cool to follow. I hope we'll se some epic games from our swedish players.
Off topic: Who cares about zlatan, he's not the pride of sweden in any way.
The reason why there's a lot of good e-sports players from Sweden is probably cuz we have a long dark winter and there's really not so much to do outside then. Also we was ahead in the IT development.
I would consider Sweden a powerhouse in european sports, the best esport country in europe and top5 country in the world to live! Much better then the US for instance, like all of scandinavia!
Who would have said those damn vikings would become the modern, civilized societys we see today??

But yes, Sweden is the one of the most connected countries. 92% of people have access to internet. Which might be the most in the world still. Why Sweden has more and better players in computer games probably has to do with more and better IT infrastructure for much longer than most other countries, spurred on by in part by the government earlier than in other countries. The provocation is that you're saying Sweden isn't a strong sport country, which we are. Both in results internationally and in how many people actively do sports here. I really don't understand where you're getting your facts from and how you blatantly are ignoring the facts presented to you. 20% of swedes are active members of sports clubs, 50% of swedes practice sports regularly without membership in a club. Sweden is ranked number 2 in the world in Summer Olympic medals per capita. To say we're not a sport oriented country is a statement not based in reality.
About the concerns why rakaka is making a Swedish stream for a Swedish competition for only Swedish players that's beyond me. Unless it's a live event and then I would kind of understand it. But if it's online they could have any and all I would think and an English stream. So it would be interesting to hear their reasoning for the format.

Why we are so good at esports: Our weather sucks big time and you can't do anything for like 8-9 months in a year so you want to kill yourself but instead you sit in front of your computer and get pro at some game,
I hate how Rakaka is always bringing up everything SWEDISH.
Every other site out there tries to bridge the gaps in e-sports, tries to get the best players in their tournaments. Rakaka is doing the exact opposite, they focus their reporting on Swedish players and have streams in Swedish (wft?).
I'm all for fostering the local scene but to me it just seems silly. For example, when they announced the TSL bracket, all the Swedish names were highlighted. Why? It's a nice fact that Jinro is Swedish but the only thing I care about in e-sports in which continent people comes from, not which country.
I do approve of this tournament however, I think Sweden is a large enough area for this type of "find the best player and send him to X" competition". Commenting in Swedish is just bad though, it sounds so bad. Especially when you try to "Swedenify" the words.
EDIT: That came of a bit angry, this is actually a great initiative from Rakaka, just want them to drop the "Sweden is great hurrrrr" act and start rooting for what is important (Europe).

I know, and I'm trying not to sound too negative here, What I mean is just that Rakaka does almost all their reporting from a Swedish perspective, something that feels very weird for me as a SC player since that has never been the case in our community.

Haha yeah. Everyone who saw the broadcasts from SVT (Swedish Television) during Dreamhack knows how embarrassing it sounds when you cast games in swedish and try to translate all the english terms into swedish. It's just... wrong.

Why so much hate? Why wouldn't they be patriotic? It's a swedish site who writes about esports in a simple way. Just like goodgame.ru who write on russian and all the russians is on that site and if their superstar BratOK or Kas is playing you'll se all the russians go crazy in every live thread here, nothing wrong with that. Just like Germans cheer for TLO, Socke and Hasu etc.
How can you even be mad at people for cheering on their countrymen? It's like you're mad just because Belgium sucks in general at esports and sports and you don't have anyone to root for from your country in big tournaments. tt

The reply you don't deserve: While there are some pubertal boys who likes to spam "SWE????" all over the internet, when it comes to talking about national pride overall you will find far more of that from people in the USA. Land of the free burger flippers. love you guys tbh though <3
Maybe you should add to the OP that Naniwa will participate.. it's a little worrysome that he's listed as a commentator
Oh and for the fine folks who keep raging about the stream being in Swedish. Learn to read the op, please. "replays will be publicized for English casters after each day." Literacy is a useful skill toi have.
Rakaka <3 Well done, this is gonna be so sick. Seems like Im the only one who would like Swedish commentators for an exchange. Tired of hearing commentators that just love their own voice and never shut up.
Edit: Hope that international players also will be eligible to compete in case of a rerun, but I can understand that the very targeted demographic from a sponsors viewpoint. English live cast is a must though, as it will generate that much more views and sponsor goodwill.
I would give NaNiwa, MorroW, SjoW and ThorZaIN about equal chances. ThorZaIN is lesser known as he has participates in less tournaments than the others (he's doing school full-time until the end of this spring). He has posted similar results in the events he did participate in.
SaSe is definitely the dark horse, he started playing SC2 in late october/early november but has been very active on Bnet since then. He's recently started to win some online cups as well. To me, other players has either shown constant lower skill-level or very inconsistent overall play.
How the hell did I not see this until now? Anyway, I feel the Swedish scene has come a long way (especially after the unfortunate results at Dreamhack) and there are plenty of Swedish players in the absolute top of the scene. Many names on the list above that could do well in GSL. Comparatively well for being foreigners of course. Maybe one day we'll have foreigners on the same level as the serious Korean players and be able to watch "Elitserien" in SC2, hosted by Peter Jihde. Or maybe not.

Actually; the most swedish thing of all is what you do at the moment; to be a hater of all swedish. Thats just in our culture and its called the Jante Law and is the foundation of any socialistic society; you should never think you are anything special, whether on an individual lvl or national. You are always subordinate to the collective and its tabu and immoral to stand out in anyway, and if you do you will be "hated" on until you get back in line again.
The young generation of swedes are not schooled in this way of thinking though, as the old rural provincial sweden have changed into a more modern worldview; and while the old Jante Law still rules the public space and the media, they are far removed from the thinking of normal people. Just like you seem to be, sir.
Sweden is good country to live in, and have many things to be proud of, and there is aboslutley nothing wrong about beeing a bit patriotic or proud when your countrymen accomplishes something great, as long as you dont get arrogant. Im sure ppl from most other countries thinks the same way about theirs. And thats quite OK.
So dont be a hater and a traditionalist. Just embrace the good things in life and be a lover.
Edit: About rakaka; their expressed goal is to encourage and promote swedish e-sports; so I assume that is why they do a swedes-only tournament.
But its plain stupid they wont cast in english, no real reason at all. I hope they change their minds.

You are surprised that a Swedish E-sports site has a special interest for Swedish players? It's very common for people to have a special interest in your country's success, and that goes for everything, not just E-Sports. Being mad about Rakaka highlighting Swedish players is like being mad about local news-papers highlighting local events.
We already have great international sites like TL and Gosugamers, we don't need Rakaka to do the same thing.

Ya, you're right. I just listed people likely to get an invite if they ask for it. Besides MaDFroG, ZpuX studies in the US and is also more or less inactive (can't understand why GosuGamers choses to sponsor a guy who barely practices). Furthermore, Merz is pretty unlikely as he wont be able to stay in Korea because of studies holding him up in Sweden.

Dont be so egoistic, we have a very similar thing in Germany. But thank god that is somewhat reduced when it comes to sports.
Btw, does anyone have a link to the brackets? Could not find it anywhere.
Man, I have better macro than BSW. He had like 4k minerals the entire game. Too bad Naniwa won't play today, I think he is going to win the tournament.
Edit: Wait a minute, what am I saying? ThorZaiN is the best swedish player imo. MorroW could beat him, but if they played 500 games I think ThorZaiN would win the most.
