i have a lot of friends who are interested, play sometimes and watch casts.
however, i do not know anyone that i can practice with. IRL i've only met 3 people that was better or on par with me on bw or sc2, 2 koreans and 1 white guy.

Well, I can assume the situation is completely different in South Korea compared to Canada/America

I must be pretty lucky then... I have 3 friends who are at about my level (masters), and a few others who are much lower. Then again, we are all Asian, so that might play a part in it.

Lol I guess I'm really lucky...I know about 3 dozen people IRL who play on a regular basis (I play the least among them). And out of those 36-40...around 12 of them watch BW proleague/osl/msl too :D

I've only got one friend in SC2. Got him interested around launch. Unfortunately he hasn't improved since purchase and won't take any advice (it's like he doesn't want to improve) so I haven't had anyone talk strat or practice 1v1 with.

I have a friend who used to watch me play BW, however, when he tried a game on ICCUP, as you would imagine, it was "pretty" one sided.

Look at day9, most of the people he talks about he met initially online (i think). Just try to message people after games and and stuff. Like if you play with a good random 2v2 team-mate, party up for a while, see if the guy's cool. Eventually you will come across people interested in the same things and maybe make some new friends sc2 friends. They don't necessarily have to be irl/local friends, especially with things like skype and vent.
It's not like I just one day DECIDED to play Terran. I was born that way, and there isn't one thing I or anybody else can do about it.

i tried with a few rl friends but they all blew it off as too hard/daunting and "didnt want to have to play all day to be decent"

edit: ive gotten several people to love tastosis though even though they dont give a shit about the game itself ^^

It does help quite a bit if you have 3-5 friends that play. Not even have a passion for it, but just enjoy it. It gives you different dynamic and relaxation to your own improvements, training, or leisure.

i have about 5 friends that play sc2 and played sc1 with me, but we only played ums games in sc1 and i was the only one who got into the actual game in sc2, therefor im play and they are all bronze and only wanna play team games, so im kinda out friends too since i dont care for team games and they dont care for 1v1

Last night was a prime example really. Played a few 4v4's with a rl friend. We lost 2 games in a row and he got fed up and quit instead of checking the replay and finding out what he\we did wrong or sucking it up and having another game. I just dont think most gamers deal with losing very well so they stick to easy games like COD or an EA sports title.

I have to say that the among of people where I live that's acturly into games other then shooters and WoW is countable on one hand, and to be completely honest, it cuts heavily into how much you play the game, if you just sit alone in your room you tend to just do other stuff as just playing for the sake of playing without having anyone to share it with or talk about it with, really don't gives you the desire to put effort into it.

So most of my time end up just watching streams and watch tournaments, and then just chill out to other stuff (fan of tyler clearly )

I have 3-4 friends into SCII to some degree. One of which who would be insanely good at the game but he can't be bothered to play (First time playing SCII he pulled out 150 apm and pulled off exactly what I told him to do and placed plat but then stopped playing) the others are at plat, silver / gold.

The "problem" with starcraft 2 is that its really competitive type of game and most people are casual gamers.

I only have 1 rl friend who has sc2, all my other friends own playstations or xboxes, the friend who does have it only played the single player, he never even done the placement matches for the 1v1. We did do a few 2v2 but he quit playing and went back to wow. Feel free to add me and maybe play some time. I live in uk

None of my RL friends play SC2. Ok well thats not technically the case. They are bronze level and play maybe 1-2 games a week.

So essentially everyone I play the game with I do not know in RL. But this has been the case for nearly every game I have played.

I don't know how a new player sees it (someone that never played SC or RTS games), but I find SC2 very rewarding. Each game I play is either a stressful loss, that I want to learn how to avoid, or an victory, where I feel my job is complete, and that I earned something.

Also, there are tons of achievements =P

You are not awarded by playing, but for winning, so it's too stressful sometimes, and achivements are sooooooo meh ....
plus if u start mixing games u will end up getting really bad in sc2, it requires full time...

That depends on how you see it. A lost is also a win if you earn some crucial piece of information that will make you a better player.
