SC2SEA.com does an interview in a very laidback style with SEA stars kellymilkies and moonglade, who are currently in Korea for casting and playing in the GSL respesctively. It was quite late last night while glade was in the middle of his training for his Code A match today, so i told them to just be casual and have fun with it! Hope you guys enjoy it!
Also, it came to my attention that glade was a movie star sometime in his past.
2.37 Onwards.
And lastly thank you to torch for his wonderful camera and pinder for the moviestar link.
Apologies if my questions weren't that good, i guess i should interview people more to learn how to ask better questions!
Remember to catch glade in his Code A matches later today!

He is from Queensland but I assume his travel has influenced his accent greatly, thus it's gonna sound a little off to a typical native Australian accent.

Wow ... usually its only some freaking movie video or creative movie which gets blocked by some record company for my country. This time its an interview (blocked by UMG copyright) ... which leads me to believe they used some music in it.
Please dont do that for interviews or you cut your potential viewerships in half (or whatever the number is).
You can bypass the music thing by writing about the fair usage policy in the description, I've seen that done before. but the best way would be just to dump the music altogether, unless it's original stuff. Kelly's growing on me, never had a problem with her casting, but her confidence and personality is shining through.

Oh hell yeah! When I was a kid, I would impress people on the internet saying I had an awesome family history since I came from an Eastern nation, and Eastern nations had such awesome histories, until I was told that due to colonization, a mainly white population and international relations, we were actually Western. I was so sad about that.
Glade doesn't even sound like a typical american-australian hybrid accent to me, there's something else weird about it. anyway nice interview, good luck to them both!

I officially now have a man crush on Glade. So handsome.
With the amount of bigotry and pure hate that Kelly has been receiving despite her efforts, it really goes to show just how long the foreign community has to go before e-sports can really "explode".
Not saying her casting is top notch, but to take her as a scapegoat for all your frustrations instead of giving positive feedback so she may improve is completely childlish...
On that note, Kelly, if you read this, try to speak slower so you can properly emphasize and ennunciate certain phoneme you seem to have the most problems with. For example, [r].

Kelly is cool it's just... it's like this: Artosis HAS to be there. We NEED his fucking amazingly insightful commentary; as a Zerg player I don't know the complexities of any nonZ MU worth SHIT, so when I see some weird attacks I don't know how to gauge who comes out ahead as well as he does.
Kelly+Artosis would probably not get that much complaining AT ALL. Tasteless + Kelly is just like, two funny/cool people but it makes the games way more boring.
Frankly I'd go as far as to say that Artosis makes the GSL as interesting as it is because you get everything from a VERY informed/pro perspective.

Indeed, can't believe there's not a caster available that speaks fluent easily understandable English with a pleasant voice. Maybe one day.
Her perceived improvement in casting is due to her not speaking as much as she did before.
Guys need to stop judging and understand the process of how she was recruited.
First of all, shes doing fine. Secondly, its all about who is doing the judging for recruitment. Clearly the people who recruited were not "american" or "australian" its a korean company recruiting after all.. Kelly has a huge asian backing and for ppl to sit down and just start bitching about her when they didn't apply for the job themselves is ridiculous.

I think only a few people have criticized her on the part of gaming knowledge, but all the people who say "she will be improving rapidly" are wrong. You can NOT weave a wand and have good enunciations and an acceptable talking speed within days or weeks. That takes months of practice, but I dont see her twittering about going to a lesson to improve that; all she seems to do is sticking around the GOM studio.

/sarcasm on Stop this Kelly-hating! /sarcasm off
Seriously, if you call the comments of others bigotry and hate you should refrain from doing the same OR stop using these words to describe the shitload of constructive criticism. People simply cant stand her accent and that is an opinion they have to be allowed to voice. People describing her as having "just an accent like every other accent" are soo wrong, because accents use the whole alphabet.
Someone should tell her to go and watch "My Fair Lady" ... that is the best advice I can come up with on how to improve her casting. This kind of improvement takes time and effort and the only way she thinks she needs to improve is to adapt to Tasteless and Artosis in her casting style and jokes. In german we would call people like that "beratungsresistent" (immune to advice).
People in the eye of the public (musicians, singers, moderators, politicians, ...) have to acknowledge that they are held to a higher standard than your average Joe. This must be the case because they are role models to the rest of society. Our societies need role models which are above average or its quality will stagnate or even decline. Having the decency to admit "my english isnt good enough YET to cast for a worldwide audience" and not applying for this worldwide job would have been a first sign of decency, but getting professional help for speaking clearly would have been a second. I dont think she did either of those and this makes every criticism totally valid and NOT hatred.
So I would advise Kelly to withdraw from commentating after this season, get a professional speech coach (maybe in England so she gets away from the community which speaks just like her) and come back in half a year or however long it takes to be able to pronounce r and l and all the letters of the alphabet clearly ...

Honestly ... its the GLOBAL Starcraft League and the job is to commentate in ENGLISH. It is fine that she has a huge asian backing, but then GOM should start providing a second international stream in Singlish (or whatever her way of speaking is called). Let the viewers decide by giving them the choice, right now that is not the case.

Your accent slipped through into your post . It's to wave a wand, not weave it.
Also, why does she have to twitter about getting speaking lessons? Just because she hasn't does not preclude the possibility of her doing so.
Why rage at me man? They made their choice, and for decent business minded reasons. The only way they could have made it better is by getting native english people to do the judge it.
I have seen the same people bitch about it thread after thread... Seriously, its not necessary that every GSL thread gets to the point where its some guy whinging about the casting. As the banks know, mass exodus is the only way to change things. So simply don't watch if it bothers you that much.
Alright, since I just posted this on a similiar thread regarding the choice of Kelly as a GSL commentator, I feel like I'll repost here (even thought some of the concerns have already been mentioned by others):
1. She's casting for an English audience, and her thick, non-standard accent and frequent grammar errors make it difficult to understand what she's saying.
2. Her in-game analysis seems very, very subpar.
3. She did not compliment Tasteless well, and on top of that, didn't bring anything to the table as far as entertainment or insight.
4. In response to the 'give her more time / you can't judge only one, two, three, x performance' arguments: the GSL is SC2's most professional league, and she's being paid to do this. Ironing out such basic flaws in casting ability should NOT be one of the GSL's priorities. The league's professionalism, in turn, gets taken down a couple notches.
If someone new to SC2 comes and watches her casts and has the same troubles understanding her or her analysis, do you think they would give her--and the GSL / SC2 in general--the same amount of leeway that you, as a community member, are willing to give? Doubtful.
The fact is, the GSL casting selection should be based on the quality of casting. Given these and past casting, how could GomTV have made such a bad selection? Is it because she's female, and GomTV wanted to use this fact to appeal to certain demographics; did they want to emulate the Korean casters (who also have a female caster); was there no one else who applied for the position; etc...
I readily admit there were a lot of sexist comments about her on TL in the aftermath of her casts. BUT, the above concerns are in no way, shape, or form sexist. At all. The sad thing is to watch how so many good-intentioned people on this forum dismiss these concerns as sexist, nit-picky, whiny, whatever. Too much blind white-knighting, if you ask me.
If she's smart, she'll these criticisms and try to fix what she can, while she can...

You're an idiot.
1. Do you really expect someone to lose an accent in a couple weeks?
2/3/4. Watch Set 3 and set 4 of Code A Day 2 (PvZ and ZvZ), Kelly easily held her own with Tasteless as far as analysis went and understood the Zerg matchups far better than Tasteless.
Obviously, there's much that can be improved, but I have no doubt that after she'll be improving a lot in the coming days of casting. I was extremely skeptical of the choice of Kelly as commentator too, but after listening to the 2nd day of Code A matches I was pleasantly surprised.

Yea, she's speaking more slowly now (thank God). But you know what? The cast is now that much more boring because she doesn't add any excitement to the play-by-play!
And yea, she's improved a small bit since the first cast. But damn, why settle for the (barely) mediocre?

you can actually be well mannered to people without having a crush or wanting to get laid...
Just watched kelly casting moonglade's game. Honestly I'm starting to get skeptical and feel bad about not accepting kelly as a caster. Kinda feel like she got it hard, and also tasteless supports her so much that he even tries to defend her by saying things like she's always right... more knowledge than 90% of the viewers, etc. its like ive done something wrong for being a viewer. well not really but you get the idea. just wanna watch the game with nice commentary without all this drama
The casting itself, like the bit by bit casting of whats going on... I feel sometimes unnecessary. I mean, I think people can visually see some small things that doesn't really matter. Like a spinecrawler just popped. We can clearly see its a spine crawler and it popped. timing didnt matter. These things take up time to say and maybe something else more meaningful could have filled that time. I'm just saying cuz kelly does that kind of thing frequently.
And I think its clear that theres bad grammer in kelly's speech. First I thought thats how singlish works, but its just lack of english.
Hope she improves I guess. I don't know how its gunna work out but yeah.
glade underperformed today but he's got the potential to make it big if he keeps working hard, will be rooting for him. one can understand how we was under the pressure not only of playing live while being so new on the korean scene, but also representing for both the sea scene and the overall foreigner scene.
as for kelly, for all her qualities that make her a potentially good caster, she really needs some professional speech coaching as someone suggested; i'd love to see her cast live shows once she can perform to the standard required by this prestigious league, but till then she's working to the detriment of the league.
i really got no ill feelings for her plus i think her being flamed like she was is pretty shameful for this community, but there has to be an understanding of the fact that the uproar against her casting gsl is mostly justified, and the standard that the community sets for its league casters is justifiably high enough that it's not acceptable to just go wing it hoping you will improve slowly over time and/or people get used to you.
as for the interview per se, i like how glade's all chilled out; modest but pretty confident guy, i like that.
kelly however really disappointed with the answer to the flaming question, i'd have expected a more mature response, i felt her reaction was very disrespectful to the part of the community that has brought up real concerns about her status in a respectful manner, even if it was a completely justifiable reaction towards the moronic flamers.
that was very unprofessional of her, she needs to assume the responsibilities of her position when giving interviews that are of direct interest to the people watching, who (in)directly pay for this show, this isn't shits and giggles in the school backyard.
Did people even watch this video? I love how no one even bothered to comment about her stay in Korea until March 17th (at least I think that's what she said). So either GSL already informed her that she was only going to cast one tournament, or she herself only planned on doing a month's stay in Korea. All this whining can stop now.
Wait, what, when did people start to like her? That is new to me. I know they stopped flaming her because admins here banned anyone that did that (with good reason or not) but lack of flaming does not equal liking someone.
Other then that a good interview, at least the parts where she is not talking.
'How do you feel about the initial flaming on TL?' 'I feel very happy about it!!'
'How have you prepared for your code A match on friday? Brian you are like the worst question writer on earth. Of course hes been practicing.' Wow... English fail.
Dear kelly, I don't care what all these team liquid haters got to say, kelly doesn't know any thing about sc 2 and kelly has strong accent. I think that you are a great caster and I very much enjoy watching her and tasteless cast code A and i also enjoy watching the casting archon. I really hope you keep up the good work and don't let every one get you down.
Ps I love you will you marry me ^_^ your pal hatchetwound
I heard the guys on SotG say Kelly had a really strong accent...I mean, not really? Just watched this and a couple Code A matches, I understood every word perfectly fine, I genuinely don't get it.
EDIT: And glade is kinda sexy with his nonchalant attitude and weird accent 0_0
