Korean Zerg player DongRaeGuProS(동래구프로에쓰) just reached 4000 points in KR ladder. He won 12 games in a row, and now he is 4006 points.

As you can see above, it was like a competition between DongRaeGuProS(동래구프로에쓰) and ST_Squirtle(스타테일꼬부기) who has 3954 points now. Among his 12 winning streaks, last 3 matches were against ST_Squirtle(스타테일꼬부기).

I just talked with DongRaeGuProS(동래구프로에쓰) and you might can see his stream on this Wednesday with Xeph's Progamer Stream.

Interesting, a zerg taking out Squirtle three times in a row huh. Will look forward to seeing this guy in action.

Never heard of him tbh
I'd like to hear IdrA's opinion, he always says it very clearly who's good and who's not.

He's been top of the Korean ladder and has had a roughly 60% win rate for at least a couple months now.

Yeah, but piqliq plays toss. I don't think it's that easy with Zerg. 60% win percentage is actually quite amazing with Zerg imo.

That's odd.

My mistake, I had loaded up SC2ranks earlier and saw him at 4,000. Then loaded it up again a few minutes later and it had him at 3,960 and 59.90%. Must have been an updating issue. I apologize for the misinformation.

Grats to him!

He's the guy that couldn't get to the Code A qualies because of how far he lives from Seoul right? Hopefully he can make the trip next time ^^

(in other 4k news, nightend briefly hit it this afternoon on eu [4012] before falling back down again)

yeah this shows you how ridiculous ladder is if someone like nightend can be in top 3. (i mean ... seriously ... watch some of his games)

love to see how dongraegupros performs, idra called him cheesy, but anyone that doesnt play 100% macro greed zerg is a fucking idiot according to him anyways.

KR ladder is pretty tough, so he must have some pretty solid early game.

Is there any more information on DongRaeGuProS, such as his experience in previous games (if any)? Considering that pretty much every SC2 progamer in Korea has played BW or WC3 professionally, I would be really interested to see this guy's past.

Perhaps he might even be related to a certain other "Dong" we know haha...

Idra has only played against him. He's only got one third of the picture, so what's the point of listening to Idra? Apparently he thought Nestea was cheesy and wasn't very good after he won the GSL so...

ProS clan starts standing out. Just like MvP team (after all, they have the same root). I hope they both do better in GSL and GSTL.

EDIT: Xeph i don't know how you find this kind of contacts but you're awesome. I hope your stream records VODs just in case i can't watch DongRaeGu on wednesday.

ProS was born out of the old WeRRa, I guess MVP (the team, not the player) was as well.

Exactly. About ProS, there was a community thread named "WeRRa to make fresh start as ProS". About team MvP, ex-WeRRa players like PhoeNix, LoveRip and Keeping are with that team. Also, if you watched PhoenixMvP's stream recently, he uses the ID "HeaDProS" in the ladder. With all of this being said, it makes me think both ProS clan and MvP team share the same root with ProS being the "clan that carries WeRRa traditions" which was mentioned in "WeRRa disbands due to sexual misconduct" thread and MvP being the team which is also supported by ProS clan that is picking up where WeRRa left off.

I'm intelligent enough to extract only the data I need from his replies, you don't need to protect anyone. I'd like to hear IdrA's opinion because he's one of the best players in the world and he is very honest about what he says; some people lie if they don't want to make someone feel offended, he isn't that way and therefore his opinion is much more worth.

IdrA on MvP team and ProS clan players: "/* They are a bunch of cheesers */, they tend to do one base allins and they are not that good".

/* I'm not exactly sure on what he said between these signs. Jason Lee expressed the entire quote before PhoenixMvP's GSL S2 Ro32 match, that IdrA said these things about WeRRa clan, you can check out the VOD in season 2 website, VOD of the first match may have this in it. */

IdrA on DongRaeGuProS: "No, he's not good. Having him on #1 KR ladder is like having piqliq on #1 NA ladder"

IdrA on WeRRa's disband: "Them all wearing the same tag was a good way to know when you're getting all-in'd"

EDIT: If there is anyone else who has more idra quotes on MvP/ProS/WeRRa/DongRaeGu, don't hesitate to share please.

Phoenix is anything but a cheesy player. Cella probably told his clan members about how everyone used to cheese Idra on the NA server during beta and maybe they thought it'd be funny to do the same.

Idra may be honest, but he has very strong opinions on what he considers as a pretty narrow set of "legit" strategies, and if he encounters players deviating from it, he has a tendency to call them !@#$ing terrible whether he wins or loses those games.

EDIT: On this DongRaeGu guy, he's going to have to show some decent tournament results before we can really acknowledge him as a top player. Ladder system has its flaws and many pros don't take it as seriously as others.

I don't recall IdrA calling Nestea a cheesy or "not very good", what I recall is IdrA saying that he didn't know Nestea enough to afirm that he was good.

IdrA's opinions were quite accurate when we think about WeRRa guys and their results in GSL1, as most of these words are quite outdated (except the one that's specifically on DongRaeGu), it's not that accurate at present. Phoenix is far from being cheesy, MvP guys were quite solid and did better than i expected in Zotac team invitational (3-5 with wins against finalist ZeNEX and semi-finalist SlayerS and all-kill against Prime), Tails especially was quite solid (with a bank of 10 wins and an all-kill against Prime with MarineKing in it).

On DRG: Considering MvP's best 2 zergs not being that dependable and him appearantly being the "top dawg" in his race in ProS clan and MvP team, I don't see a reason why he's not recruited by MvP. Sure he needs to bank some tournament wins, but i don't think he's too far away from doing that. He's eliminated by GanZi in code A but i think that was some kind of bracket sinister. I don't think he would be eliminated by current code A qualified players except GanZi, LosirA, Virus and maybe Ace.

On HuK vs DRGProS video: Artosis only casts replays that foreigners win against koreans. That is maybe because he only gets those replays. I watched it and DRG didn't play cheesy at all in that game. I'm pretty sure that HuK has an even-ish record against him in a good number of games.

Idra has only played against him. He's only got one third of the picture, so what's the point of listening to Idra? Apparently he thought Nestea was cheesy and wasn't very good after he won the GSL so...

I don't recall IdrA calling Nestea a cheesy or "not very good", what I recall is IdrA saying that he didn't know Nestea enough to afirm that he was good.

Are you serious? He definitely made it clear he didn't think Nestea was very good. He said in GSL 3 that "a good player would win this time" and, probably not tot the best info, but someone mentioned in Idra's fanclub that he changed his opinion on Nestea, he thought Nestea was bad because Nestea would always cheese him on the ladder and he thought he had an easy bracket in GSL2.

Please if you want to state things at least be up to date. Yes in GSL2 Idra said he though Nestea wasn't as good as everything thought and I think that can't really be argued. His play was good but not above what other zergs showed. Since then Idra has stated "people change" and how Nestea has improved a lot since then and is really good now. He even said how Nestea is one of the only zergs he knows that can handle all the cheese thrown at him.

Nestea did have an easy bracket and wasn't that amazing back then. Now is a different story.

Uhm, context, context. I know what Idra thinks now, you don't have to tell me that. My whole point was that Idra's impressions from the ladder isn't really the best way to gauge a player.

Even after Nestea won GSL 2, Idra said that he's not that good and grossly overrated by Tastosis.

Idra is... an entertainer...

I didn't want to use the word clown, but for someone who takes things seriously, he doesn't command the respect he probably should among the community, even though he is actually a skilled player.

idra called him the piqliq of the KR server

Yeah, but piqliq plays toss. I don't think it's that easy with Zerg. 60% win percentage is actually quite amazing with Zerg imo.

yeah in all honesty, i was surprised that he was zerg as well. not that it's impossible, but to win 12 straight seems like he should earn a feat of strength achivement lol.

Watching him on Xeph's stream right now: I think Idra must have been talking about his ZvZ, because his ZvP and ZvT seem pretty solid to me. Also, his English is good! He tabbed out of SC2 to talk to stream viewers and bantered a bit. Really nice guy.

Are you sure it was DongRae speaking the English? It might've been Xeph himself, since he often speaks to the stream viewers and translates stuff for them.

Nevertheless, it's cool to see the DongRae on stream. He's quite a strong Zerg, and I'm hoping to see him get into GSL in the near future.

This guy is amazing. He sent waves upon waves of zerglings against a protoss that was 3 bases against his 3 bases on scrap station. The protoss, going for MASS sentry collossus zealots, used forcefields nonstop, seemingly owning DRG, forcefields going across the map. However, in a small window the protoss didn't have enough FFs to block everything off; he built a shit ton of sentries but stil had no FFs left due to DRGs constant efficient ling attacks. ~35 banelings were morphed and BAM the entire protoss army was gone. Sadly, DRG lost his 3rd while his banes were morphing, so he was left with no source of money and had to GG.

Epic match.

I noticed he overbuilt on COrruptors to make the protoss switch more into a zealot, sentry and stalker army. This was cool b/c it allowed for those banelings.

Why? People really got to start taking what IdrA says with a gain of salt. Shesh, it's starting to get out of hand.

He's also very biased and bitter towards certain people like MKP. He's not always honest.

Anyway watching this guy stream, he's actually surprisingly good!

No, he definitely said Nestea "isn't that great and is overrated". Eventhough Nestea is easily the best Zerg in the world at the moment.

That was after his win in season 2, where he didn't get the chance to play "macro games which showcase real zerg skill", and only proved himself as a top zvz player. Since the S3 ended Idra has said Nestea is the best zerg in the world atm.

I just watched several hours of DRG, and he is one of the most impressive zergs I have ever seen. Amazing. Xeph is streaming him right now, and he has such creative play and solid macro. I am shocked he ever looses. I just linked this thread in the justintv chat, so hopefully it gets more attention, and I hope more people recognize who DRGProS is. He went from rank 47 masters to rank 2 masters on a smurf in like 2 hours...crazy.

He is very active and good in flanking, that's what I see when I see him play. Sending zerglings all the way around the map to flank an army, really good stuff.

And he has some sort of resilience to early pressure / cheese.

Made be nervous on the scrapstation ZvT he forgot to get the gas at his natural all game long but he did rush for the 3rd base gas fast at the same time. Still held off any Terran pressure though with just enough banes/infestor play. Good solid player

i hope he's better than what that game vs huk showed, seems like he must be if he killed squirtle 3 times during a 12 game win-streak. not an easy task as a zerg, even if squirtle was trying a new strat perhaps. or maybe his allins just normally do better than they showed vs huk.

Are there any reps or VODs other than that one vs Huk of this player? I always like watching top zergs :D

I'm really surprised a zerg managed to go that many games without getting a loss to cheese.

I just watched a couple hours of this fellow and I have to say and Idra appears to be entirely wrong, he has some really creative play but his movement and macro is nothing short of impressive.

It was really weird. In his game vs sCfou he build early evo chamber and put down like 5 spore crawlers without scouting him going banshee. Maybe I missed something.

Glad to see that even the pros share my detection paranoia!! I always throw down a spore at each base regardless of whether or not I know they have cloak.

I didn't see the game, but you don't need to scout cloaked tech to prepare for it. Early double gas, or no expansion, added on to missed timings for normal timing attacks (as cloaked timings hit later) mean that pro-gamers can get a feel for when they need detection or not. Perfect example is MVP vs MC in the team league. He didn't scout DTs, but what he did scout hinted at some tech that was hidden from him.

I saw him practicing a proxy-hatch strategy for his TvP on ladder on Xeph's stream. He beat the likes of Genius, Sangho, and other top Protoss with this strategy popularized by our dear Root.Catz. It was funny seeing him as possibly the Korean Catz.

Honestly, after watching him play through first person, I've never seen anything like it in Starcraft 2 (I'd imagine only the likes of NesTea/MVP would make me feel the same). The complete control he has over everything under any kind of pressure is amazing, and to be honest (and I don't say this lightly, in fact ever) the only time I've seen anything like it, is watching the 10 second first person views of Jaedong they show every game...

I've watched Idra, Ret, CatZ, etc. countless times...and it's not even close for me. His macro is second nature, on par with IdrA. However at the same time he is looking at 10 places on the map, and doing things with his zerglings and Mutas that I am pretty sure is illegal in 29 states...

Picture the macro monster that IdrA is, but with the harassment of I dunno...god? His game sense is incredible, making perfect counters, flanks, surrounds..not to mention he can at anytime pump an army to end the game if he sense even a little bit of weakness...

I don't know, maybe he was having a good day, but the way I saw him..toy...with code S and A players made me feel like I was watching someone get violated. By far the sickest Zerg..no Starcraft 2 player I have ever watched in first person...and I watch streams VERY often of all races (pretty much anything available to me, aka not in Korea only).

watch his stream last night and I was like holyshit this guy must have like 400 APMs, got stress with his amazing speed and control in the game, he destroyed ST_Bomber, Protoss easily. His macro and micro was insane, mass FF can't even trap his zerglings.

Yeah I watched this today, he looked like the new NesTea (I think one of the few games he lost was to nestea?) Destroyed pretty much every all-in that got thrown at him and counter-attacked with perfect timings. Great to watch.

None of his opponents executed their builds particularly well nor abused the zerg timings. He seemed like a very good player, but the stream likely painted a bit overly positive image. Seeing Boxer's meta close positions meta was especially disappointing.

Xeph, if you get the chance you should stream DRG again. He speaks english too, and takes song requests which is always fun. Just all around that was probably one of the best streams I've watched.

I couldn't disagree more. Not only did he stop some very well timed Terran and Protoss timing pushes several times, but he went about delaying the pushes longer than I've seen any Zerg do with amazing decision making, harassing, and countering. I don't know how much of the 5 hour stream you actually watched but the boxer game is the only example of a poor build execution that I even saw. I'm sure some of it was being 'in the zone' because to be honest he looked unbeatable except in ZvZ when he played NesTea (the best Zerg let alone best ZvZer). But yea like I said.. Sick good.

VODs weren't allowed to be recorded off of Xeph's stream since the Korean progamers don't want other Koreans being able to access their first-person VODs. Xeph said that the pros allowing him to stream on TL were simply doing a favor, and he repeatedly urged the stream viewers to not record the stream or else he wouldn't be able to stream any more games.

That is his ability, I think. I don't know why, but none of his opponents cannot make great decision against him; maybe DRG's timing, harassment, multitasking ability made that. Actually, some other progamers are saying DRG has some 'supernaturl' power. lol. This is RTS which is none of the players can make decision freely.

Idra has only played against him. He's only got one third of the picture, so what's the point of listening to Idra? Apparently he thought Nestea was cheesy and wasn't very good after he won the GSL so...

Idra is... an entertainer...

I didn't want to use the word clown, but for someone who takes things seriously, he doesn't command the respect he probably should among the community, even though he is actually a skilled player.

He does entertain, but he doesn't intend to. He's a competitive guy who talks smack about his opponents in order to unsettle them, and it works sometimes.

No he lost to GanZi, who is a very good terran I believe? It's in the thread several times, read it over. He is on IM with NesTea and MVP.

I found one.. I don't know any korean, but with some help from google translator I managed to type in his name and the word for replay (in korean, then pasted into google search). I didn't find any replays but I did find one VOD. It's from the korean gomTV site, but the only problem is that the video is almost 3 months old now... A lot has changed since then but since it's the only video I have found that isn't the match against HuK (which is also pretty old) I thought I would post it.

Here is the link (the site is in Korean, but i'll explain how to get to the VOD):

http://ch.gomtv.com/4057/28101/397657

On the right side there, they have the video for each individual set between the two teams. Set 4 is the one with DRG, his korean id is: 동래구프로에쓰

You will need the korean (the one from the US site will not work) GOM Player to view it. It is easy to download however, just like the other one, only difference is that it is all in korean.

Just saw him stream for the second time a couple of days later (last night up until the GSL, on Xeph's stream). And I'd have to say everyone in the chat agreed, it was an awesome "pre-game" show to the GSL (Code A in this case), and since it was all against S class talent, it turned out to be even more entertaining than most of the Code A matches themselves. I am just as impressed as I was before. I think in the 4-5 hours total I have watched of MVP_DRG I've seen 2, maximum 3 losses.
