Watching the Code S yesterday was really bad.
Mechanical pencils?
Money eye sockets?
Nestea jumping out of an airplane with a shark and a tiger?
Riding into battle on a giraffe?

I mean, I'm trying to organize a barcraft equivalent at my place with some guys from work and that kind of commentary is just embarrassing when I'm trying to show that competitive gaming can be taken as seriously as regular sports.

Quick question, while we all know no other professional sport commentary contains idiocies like that, do the Korean casters on GOM also do this? I'm thinking not.

A few jokes here and there is fine, but I'm sad to say that I'm starting to even prefer other casters that spend down time at start of matches to talk about the players, past matches they've had and the strats they used, etc more than Tastosis.

I guess maybe I'm just too old (I'm 40) and thus not the target audience of this comedic stuff (i.e. 12).

Just stop talking about make believe stuff and just cast the game. Please.

My 2 cents.

Their jokes are aimed at 12 year olds? Oh okay...

Just get off your high horse lol, there are plenty of other casters that cater ur needs, let Tastosis do their thing, you know the thing that the majority of the SC2 viewers actually love to watch?

Couldn't disagree with you more. Tastosis are fucking amazing. Besides, in most games there isn't a great deal to say for the first 5 minutes or so anyway, I'd rather have them saying funny stuff than being 'serious'. The fact that they are genuinely fun to watch coupled with their insight and passion for the game, no other casters come close.

Particularly liked the analogy of a scouting scv running up a ramp past a stalker and sentry to the US military shooting a paper boy running up some stairs. So good! xD

Sorry back to your rant, I think you answered you're own question - yes, you're too old. I'm 23, they're brilliant.

I like humor in the casting. It's just lately, they are trying too hard. It just goes on and on. I'd like a bit more shift towards serious analysis. Not just that, just a bit a shift more back to it.

Talk about the players, their past matches, their mindset, past strats used, provide statistics on their past performance, etc.

Sure, make a joke or two if you run out of things to say but prepare before the match with interesting topical things to say instead of preparing questions like "what kind of animal would you ride into battle with?".

Again, I like Tastosis a lot. I just don't like it when they go down that path.
I mean, "What up! I AM NESSTTTEAAAA!!!" was pure gold.

I agree, and I'm surprised more people aren't annoyed by it. Jokes should be made in between analysing and describing what is happening, not the other way around. I was most annoyed the other day when they were talking about Scooby Doo characters and rhino sex instead of things which were actually happening in the game. Hearing Mr Bitter and Rotterdam argue and discuss the game during casts is actually really refreshing. I still love Tastosis (particularly Artosis) but sometimes they take the jokes too far, and it detracts from the games IMO.

yes.

casters like tastosis, day9 and so on are one of the reasons why sc2 is a far superior esport. they make even boring games entertaining with their conversations/jokes/etc.

Hey, I love a joke or two as much as the next guy. I.e. make the cast enjoyable but them talking about hating Scooby Doo for 5 minutes instead of talking about the game I'm trying to watch and understand in more depth is just boring.

There are always things to talk about. I remember the end of HSC3 and having NightEnd, MC, Grubby, HasuObs, Rotterdam, ToD and whoever else cast the PvPs at the end was awesome, I learned a lot and they made the games more interesting. I also recall shortly after that MC played Huk in GSL, and in one 4 Gate vs 4 Gate game, they were just discussing random crap until the first Stalkers came out, which prompted Tasteless to say something along the lines of 'now that something is actually happening we can go back to the game'. Actually there was a lot to talk about, and slight deliberate variations between both of their builds that weren't discussed at all.

SC2 is boring as hell, for the first 6 mins of a game. These two make it fun. I think its great they can keep the banter up when they are casting for up to 5 hours. Cant wait to hear more funky qoutes

I happen to agree with you, being around your age group I do see a lot of their jokes and such quite juvenile and at a grade-school level. However, you have to pull back and take into account the larger picture of eSports in general.

I'll be willing to bet that most fans of eSports are quite young, like the players themselves. Most all being in the age range of teens to mid-twenties. Remember when you were that age? It was quite surprising the things you found funny. For such a majority, Tastosis hits the spot. Our sense of humor has matured with age, but eSports has not really grown up yet.

Keeping this in mind I enjoy the games and do laugh at a joke or two. Tastosis has their own style and I do appreciate it along with the other GSL casters (I prefer Wolf myself, though he doesn't have a good co-caster yet).

I'm 20 years old and still think they are hillarious i wouldn't say the jokes are at grade-school level.
Only in the sense that they kind of go back and enjoy being childish and pointless but realy realy funny :D !
In TvTs i sometimes don't even watch the whole game but play minecraft while listening to tastosis.

I have never read a post that I disagree more with. Tastosis is a big reason to why GSL is the best league to follow IMO. Well, that and the fact that they have the best players.

Some times they strike gold with their jokes, but not often enough to justify for some of the stuff thats getting broadcasted. I dont know if i just pay more attention to it or if it has actually changed, but i feel that tastosis isnt quite as professional about their casting these days as they used to.

Random banter between games is one example - even understandable one - but more annoying example would be the early game: "Another TvT. Artosis, have you ever seen movie X blablaba..." "nothing much to say here, its PvP, we haveto wait and see what hapens. Now, artosis, ask me a random question that has nothing to do with game, isnt particularly interesting and is extremely unprofessional and feels out of place in the highest tier of starcraft2 play" and so forth.

Listen, id rather you showed me map, gave hints how to play on it, what to expect from the players, all this stuff that is related to the game. Maybe joke here and there, but even Jerry fuckin' Seinfield would run out of jokes if he was trying to be funny 4 hours straight several days a week!

That said, i still enjoy GSL and GSTL. I just wish Tastosis would consentrate more in game.

The reason I love Tastosis as compared to any other casters is the fact that it feels like I'm watching the games with my buddies. I've outgrown the serious, non-stop strategical analysis and don't really enjoy meaningless play by play. I can see what is going on, I understand the game well enough. But if they see something new, or exciting, an "oh! this is so smart!" Artosis moment, they cover it immediately.

Tasteless and Artosis are willing to say "well this game is bad..." just as I do with my friends, and they tell jokes to fill time and make games more enjoyable to watch. Analyzing every move gets old, and is quite boring. I don't comment on MKP's marine control the 100th time I've seen him stutter step, but if hes got a 20 kill Banshee, or MVP tech swaps to BC's I'm going to say something.

I think they put a good amount of strategy into the cast but they also do it in a way that is really enjoyable to watch.
