Of course he did because Team Liquid has most of the best foreigners on it; people that train in Korea with the best players in the world that actually have shown that they are good enough to deserve an automatic qualifier in GSL.

so they are good enough to get a automatic qualifier but bad enough to risk getting through with playing code A prelim?
HuK would clean his group without problem since MarineKing as he himself said is no problem for him... And Ret.... Being code A and be afraid of code B players... such a shame...

PS... If we get more westerners into GSL Nazgul should have a talk with other managers for a temporary merger of players in GSL under one team (only for GSL) eg. LiguidRet.West, EGIdra.West and so on. That way the next GSL Team tourney our western players could participate in it (hopefully)

You are fighting a losing battle. You will never get them to admit how biased they appear to be in this thread and some of them may not even realize it themselves. This thread has become a trainwreck unless the title changes to "Vote for your favorite compatriot" or "Vote for a player you want to hang out with the most" for a bunch of people mentioning incontrol in the first 30-40 pages. Incontrol is an awesome, fun guy and also a decent professional, but he just hasn't shown enough at this point to deserve a free Code A.

I think I might just give up and start posting "I VOTE FOR BRATOK" myself here every 8 hours.

You must not have followed GSL before as it is not easy to qualify whatsoever. Jinro didn't qualify for GSL 1 or 2. Tester failed to qualify for GSL 2 and 3. Both of these players are now in code S top 16 along with many other Code A and Code S players who failed to qualify multiple seasons.

I am beginning to realize this, I was just hoping for some nice discussion on the topic.

As for Incontrol I agree completely. He is my favorite SC2 personality and one of the top foreigners from my country (US) but I would never recommended he be given an automatic qualifier over other foreigners who deserve it much more.

Do we know when a decision will be announced by GOM? We're quickly comming up on Feb and these players obviously have to make plans if they are going to Korea (if they aren't already there).

I think GomTV would probably get in touch with the players and hammer out the details in private long before returning to this thread or making a public announcement as to who is going to show up. I suspect we will find out a few days before the event itself. Its a two way street remember, if GomTV advertises a group of players joining the GSL months in advance, and something happens in a players personal life that prevents their attendance, that would be money, time and hype wasted for their event.

Almost everyone who posts in this thread is biased one way or another, it's just way more obvious with the russians.

Because it is annoying for GOM and anyone else interested in reading this thread to go through and see a bunch of useless spam voting for a player that would get crushed in the GSL. Unlike these 1 post accounts, I actually like to read the insightful posts people make, which is what TL is about. These posts are turning this thread into something it shouldn't be. It's supposed to be a discussion thread, not a poll.

As for the "aggressiveness" don't you see it as aggressive having thousands of people coming into a website that they have made no contribution to at all and spamming a thread they don't really understand?

but no really i vote for myself, huk, and hayder. would suck if one of us who actually live here would have nothing to do for monthssssss cause we lose in qualifier (there's a lot of really good players in the qualifier, and me and haypro actually play zerg so yea.)

there's not a single tournament other than gsl, unless ur willing to wake up at 7 am and play in bad lag on us server keke

gg

If someone has the chance to qualy, but fails, why should he deserve a spot then ?

If someone doesn't even try to qualify, does that automatically make him better than the guy who attempted to qualify and failed?

I don't think so. If anything, it makes him even more of a wildcard. Why should he deserve the spot then?

Liquid guys have been there longest, Liquid is the most powerful foreign team (by some margin), their members in Korea live in a pro team house and it is veeeery unlikely any foreigner who hasn't even been to Korea yet or played a single game against their top players is more qualified to play in Code A than Ret, Huk and Haypro.

Its not they don't try to qualy, they don't have the chance. But if you have the chance to qualy just with your skill like the liquid guys why should they need a wild card? On the other hand people it would be more clever to give the spot to people that don't have the chance to qualy. For example HuK will probaly get a spot in prem, but Brat_OK could be the best player on the world, but as long as he doesn't have the money to go there he has no chance to qualy. (Obviously this is unrealistic cause he would find a sponsor to get him over there just see it theoretically).

Theoretically idea is that players who appear to be "the best players in the world" will be picked up by foreign teams that have the ability to send them to Korea, and then sent to Korea. None of the Liquid players would have gone to Korea by now if they weren't in Liquid, and they wouldn't be picked up and then sent to Korea (which I presume costs a fuckload of money) if Liquid didn't believe they could play on that level. That's simply how things work. If you can't even attract the interest of top foreigner teams, or you aren't on a good enough team that is willing to invest into sending you to Korea, then there has got to be a reason for that.

In my opinion, the invites are there to ensure foreigner presence in the GSL as GOM believes (and rightly so) that it makes GSL more attractive to the foreign audience. Sure, the Liquid guys are already there and can qualify by skill via qualifiers, but qualifier games are always unpredictable. Even if you're generally good enough to go through, you can still lose to another good player and then you've got nothing to do for a month. Ret nearly lost in Code A qualifiers to (imho) inferior players because he was sick that day. Just because you're good enough doesn't mean you have to qualify. No foreigner could be confident enough to just storm through these qualifiers, and probably nobody would go through on their first try (or two) either.

Finding a team isn't about pure skills but also about popularity within the community. This is for example why ROX would prefer Brat_OK over a better player from Europe (lets say Jinro) if they had the choice. They are a russian sponsor, so they have to care about the popularity within the russian community (where Brat_OK is extrem popular as we have seen). So Liquid also did the same with their guys. They would barely recruit a Eastern europe/Chinese/Sea player who barely has anything to do with the community here on TL and might even have language barrer or visum problems or whatever.
You are talking about top foreign teams ? Afaik only Liquid (and soon eg) offers their player a opputurity to go Korea and live there. Obviously Rox is a top foreing team too.

Edit: Actually this thread doesn't really make sense since you wouldn't know who would accept an invitation.

I disagree with mostly all of that.

Liquid already have players from EU/NA and I can't see why would they be reluctant to recruit, for example, Dimaga, Sen or a Code S Korean player given the opportunity, even though they may not interact much with the TL community and have a language barrier. Obviously language barrier can be an issue internally, but that's not what we're discussing here.

ROX's main sponsor is Kaspersky as far as I'm aware, and I'm pretty sure their interests extend well beyond Russia. I can't see why they would have any rational reasons not to sign Jinro or Idra, nor how would that negatively affect the sponsorship (in fact it would be quite the contrary) in a hypothetical situation where such a deal could be possible.

As long as the player is proven and skilled, he will have some sort of following on TL unless he has personal issues (extreme BM, lack of discipline, personality clashes), and will have generated enough "star power" that the issues you present won't be issues at all. Pretty much every successful foreign player is known and respected on TL, including Brat_OK. A lot of people in this thread voted for him even before the Russians thought of invading the thread, by the way.

Where'd the influx of russians come from?

Anyway,

After seeing a few things I've decided to change my vote to the following

Huk (Because he's probably top 3 protoss in world)
Sjow (He seems to do very well in the competitive environment)
Ret (He still deserves one more shot at being competitive)
Kiwikaki (Has what it takes to be in GSL and would probably flourish in that environment. I think EG or team liquid should attempt to pick him up if he gets voted in)

Who I did not pick
Haypro. Has consistently underperformed at all tournaments. He tends to lose with major mistakes. Not sure why he is still in korea when he has not been in top 100 of korean ladder for a while.
Morrow. A really excellent player, but his playstyle would not be good in korea. If he lived in korea for 6-9 months he could possibly be competitive if he switched back to terran.
brat_ok. Has not participated in enough competitive tournaments. Not the highest skilled.
mana/naniwa/whitera. Protoss is played extremely differently in korea and these players would have trouble adapting.
QXC/drewbie/nama. Simply not enough experience. They would definitely benefit from going to korea to train first.
TLO/tarson/incontrol/machine/inka/demuslim/fenix/tt1/etc Definitely fan favorites, however, belong in a lower calibur of play. Some could be in code A, but most simply are missing either motivation or the ability to practice in a very competitive environment.

@darmousseh Some of the players you mentioned needs to be in Korea to progress. I'm quite certain that the more major problem is that they can't be there due to different reasons. TLO and iNcontroL had been to Korea, they could just go in and play prelims when thy have a chance. And very frankly, both of who had shown far superior play than what we saw currently in Code A. Demu is heading over, so is moonglade, so I see them prepared to play preliminary as well.
