THE GG ETIQUETTE GUIDE
- The literal translation of 'gg' is: "good game". It also demonstrates respect for an opponent, similar to a handshake between competitors in other sports
- When it has become clear that the game will soon be over, the losing player should 'gg' his opponent and leave the game
- If you are winning, do not 'gg' before your opponent does!
This is known as an 'offensive gg', and can be interpreted as "I think you have no chance to win, GTFO my game already"- Note that 'gg' can also be used at the very start of the game to wish an opponent a good game, in the same manner that you might wish an opponent hf (have fun) or gl (good luck). It is not BM, honest!
- If you are winning, do not 'gg' before your opponent does!
- It is considered polite to reply to a 'gg' from the losing player with a 'gg' of your own
- At the end of a game, if your opponent gg's and leaves before you are able to reply, you may optionally contact him via battlenet chat after the game with your 'gg'.
- If your opponent left the game and did not 'gg', do not contact him in after the game.
If a player has abandoned the game without speaking it is likely he may be frustrated or angry. Contacting him in chat after a game may be seen as 'chasing' or 'harassing' an upset player (imagine a tennis player storming off the court angry after a loss, and his opponent chasing him attempting to force a handshake)
+ Show Spoiler [The 'wp'] +As a general rule, it is very friendly to tell your opponent 'wp' (well played) - it will make him feel good!
However, be wary of telling your opponent 'wp' if you won the game, as it may be seen as sarcastic by your opponent. I would recommend only telling your opponent 'wp' if you are the losing player (unless you are replying to his 'wp') - At the end of a game, if your opponent gg's and leaves before you are able to reply, you may optionally contact him via battlenet chat after the game with your 'gg'.
