I really wish US got HD, at least for the VODs. Oh well I still love it, $20 was definitely worth it.

I'm paying for the HD stream. I don't care it is grainy as I have a low speed internet anyway. However the stream being choppy and saying the stream is full in unacceptable.

im kind of disappointed that they dont have higher quality vods for the premium users especially after seeing what the koreans get to see =_='

irregardless. the stream wont improve if gom's viewer count doesn't improve. at the very least there should be consistant reminders that if you CAN watch the direct stream you SHOULD. it's nice to have the restreams there for people having problems. but i worry people who can watch the direct stream fine are just watching restreams
and to almost everyone in this thread as gom's viewer count increases so will the quality of the stream. if gom can actually pick up some international advertisers for the ad breaks im betting they will increase the quality then aswell

Bought the stream, mostly for video, and imo the quality is not bad. HD would be nice, I would take it for the VOD only if they could do that. 20$ was worth it.

It's not our fault GomTV's client ruins our PCs.

the free stream is really good for as long as it doesn't crash and then you get blocked from restarting it because there's too many viewers T_T

I bought the HQ for $20, so far it's been unwatchable about half the time (stuttery), the rest of it has been okay and noticeably better than the LQ free stream.
Difficult to judge whether it's worth it or not, considering the amazing HQ stream provided by GLHF for free and the relatively cheap HQ streams from the MLG and ESL are comparatively much better. Yet, I'd still say $20 for the amount of hours of entertainment you get compared to any pay per view TV event or even going to see a movie or something is worth it.
Overall they are working to get their shit together but they could still do much better, they need to swallow their pride and hire the guys at GLHF to restream... I'm not sure what GLHF would charge but it's got to be considerably less than paying to set up the infrastructure to do the whole thing yourself. Even if they struck a deal with GLHF to split the money with them for providing a HQ stream for $20 would definitely be something I think a lot of people would be happy to pay for.

$20 a month is ridiculous. Thats more than HBO costs. And its not even HD.
|
I paid for it and usually watch at least the first 2 games before I go to sleep then watch the vods after work then repeat. I also have never ran into any issues with lag/stuttering.
I also agree that TL shouldn't allow streamers to be listed that re-stream the game(at minimum not on the first page). It really is only hurting the growth of starcraft 2.
Restreaming issue aside, TL is a huge help to GSL just by gathering so many StarCraft fans and making news posts about the tournament. How exactly is GSL advertising outside of Korea? I haven't heard of anything. It seems like their plan is to just announce their tournament and let SC news sites gather all their customers for them. I agree with this as well, gomtv can't really complain as without TL they would loose at least 80% of foreign exposer.

frankly i paid $20 simply to support them. i didn't pay to get access to anything running a stream costs alot of money and currently the english stream is just a MASSIVE expense for gom. they dont have any advertising or sponsers for it. the only money they get to cover the stream comes from that $20 people pay and i doubt that even covers it.
please support it if you want to see it continue.

Ah but to have HBO you need a cable tv package and those aren't exactly cheap. With GomTV you can watch the vods whenever you want, can't do that with HBO. Besides HBO doesn't cover SC2 matches anyways ;p
$20 isn't a lot of money, it's 66 cents a day, or about 3 mcdonald meals, or 1 large pizza. It's less than three hours of work at the federal minimum wage (well at least in the United States it is). It's about $30 cheaper than most current-gen video games and most video games only entertain you for a month at most. And best of all you'd be supporting international esports, this is the best chance esports has ever had of becoming global.

Hopefully they come out with a yearly package, so you could just buy 12months for like 50$ instead of 20$ per month.

Restreaming won't begin hurting GOM until their stream can actually handle the load and not block out viewers for hitting their cap.
Also, until GOM finishes the GSL iPhone app they claim to be making, restreams are the only way to watch it on iPhone.
|
Considering their servers were permanently maxed out on connections, how could they have lost any viewers to re-streams when they could not have handled those viewers in the first place?

I found the quality of the SQ stream to be very very nice actually, I could read the names of units, and buildings/units were very easy to see clearly(I could even see the wings on lings :3).
But, I really do say people need to watch it from the Gom player if they can, as it will only help GomTV keep making more GSLs(And make them better).

Nobody is saying otherwise. The problem is that GOM's stream can't handle the viewers so they have to go elsewhere. The restreams are probably the one of the main reasons interest in this event is still alive. If only a quarter of the people trying to watch it could watch it, people would just start to ignore it and probably not bother coming back in a few months when they get their act together. The restreams are saving their viewership.

This is really the biggest issue. From personal experience with communicating with GOM, they do not have the personal, expertise, or vision to cater to a market outside Korea. Their plans extended to hiring two foreigners to talk and setting up a PPV website. The end.
That being said, GOM and Blizzard is a partnership for the Korean scene that we happen to be interested in, not an international endeavor. The only reason they are in bed together in the first place is to break kespa.

I can assure you that TL has helped more than hurt the GSL.
