And this is why marketing strategies work. Believe what you want about their intentions, just from reading the recent threads on TL, it's apparent that if they did plan this marketing strategy, it was wildly successful. The free stream's quality is awful. The paid stream's quality isn't bad but is pretty awful for having to pay $20 to see it. I would have expected the free stream to be around "High" quality and the paid stream to be HD quality.

By default the network settings of the OSes are not suitable for high-speed transfers over a single session over high-latency links, that's why you cant just stream HD-video off your US West Coast server because it will be laggy for most of the people outside America, who haven't tuned their network settings. To broadcast in HD (you will probably need 3-4Mbit bitrate for the video to look good) worldwide without lag you will need a CDN, which costs money. TheGunrun demonstrated the "high" stream quality [500k] and then showed his own one for GLHF.tv [1.4M] and it was a big and visible difference. They are doing FREE streams already in his quality and I think he said he would be willing to stream it if he was asked, so go figure why I think that some people simply want to make money and simply give excuses for putting out a crappy free stream and make people pay for "high" quality. We already had some pretty big tournaments with free super high quality streams during the beta and I doubt the number of viewers will be much bigger than that and it worked and did not require any special super upload streamer.
