Honestly I'll check and see if the quality is really that bad during the event but if it is I'm going to be skipping this one. I'm not about to pay money to watch a tournament either when I can watch plenty of SC2 for free... or just play.
I know people are going to jump on me because I'm "not supporting e-sports" but I don't particularly care about that. I just like watching SC2 matches.

To see demos of the stream and vod quality go here: http://www.gomtv.net/2010gslopens1/premiumzone/VideoSpecs.php
You will need to download the gomtv player, it's free and installs in a few seconds.
I think the quality of the streams (both the free version and the premium version) is alright. Hoping the higher quality vods become available soon but i can live with the 500k for now and have decided to definitely purchase the $20 stream+vod deal as soon as they put it up on their website.

I have stayed up all night and gone to work on no sleep watching pixelated slide shows with non-english casting that had to be refreshed every 3 minutes just to watch BW games i wanted to see.
Gom stream is completely and totally fine. In fact, its a blessing.
BTW, the OP pics make the streams look worse than they really are. I have done a check on all those setting and its not as bad as he is making it look. On my screen 300 looks better than 500 looks in the OP.

It's simple, GomTV understands that it will be difficulty to stream lagless from Korea (be it in low or high quality) so they rented a US server to be able to broadcast in Low/High quality to the rest of the world. By default the network settings of the OSes are not suitable for high-speed transfers over a single session over high-latency links, that's why you cant just stream HD-video off your US West Coast server because it will be laggy for most of the people outside America, who haven't tuned their network settings. To broadcast in HD (you will probably need 3-4Mbit bitrate for the video to look good) worldwide without lag you will need a CDN, which costs money.

I too would go the same route as Canadian ISPs suck the big one when it comes down to bw limits. Anyways, I am used to lower quality vids.

Quality is actually quite good :o I mean it's free and even for that we had to fight. I'm pleased with it

MLG's free stream looked much MUCH better..but whatever. Atleast i get to watch.

I feel stupid, I don't see any differnce?

You want better quality you pay for it. As long as the games are legible for free I think it's unreasonable for people to ask for more.

I can see the units, and have a fairly decent understanding of whats doing on.
All I need

The low quality stream does seem really low... but it is free so I won't complain. However, they should've definitely upped the paid stream to like 1000Kbps at the very least. I'd feel kinda shafted if I paid for that, and you can barely even make out the supply counts.

It's free and it's a stream. Better than no stream? YES PLS
|
my question is can the free one be uploaded to youtube without being taken down.

I've even seen 3000k streams on Afreeca before. Crystal clear and crisp, was ridiculous.
But a shitty stream is better than no stream.

This is better than nothing or paying the $50. Anyone who wants better should pay for the quality boost. I'm fine with this.

500k SC2 looks far better than 3000k BW imo.

When taking into account that its SC2 and the graphics are way better than BW, and also since tasteless and artosis will be casting this, I dont see any issue. Will probably be even easier to follow then a koreak speaking guy explaining a game with terrible graphics even if its in HD.
(I mean, seriously, whats the point with crisp clean stream for BW ?)

so the idra match is on at 3am pst? somebody clear this up for me please.

That leaves understanding what's going on in the match completely in the hands of the casters. That's okay if you just turn the streams on and work on other stuff like me, but it'll matter to those who play this game seriously and wants to see/predict everything in the game.
Surely they'll have the ability to use the English client for casting the games - I mean, I'm pretty sure that's what that KevinAce guy said what the foreigners used to play during the offline prelims.

Whoever suggested using octo needs to be beaten up. Octo is awful.
But like I said in TorcH's thread, now that its $20 instead of $overpriced I'll probably buy the High/VOD ticket.
