I really don't agree with the 'bashing' of SeleCT. There are many players who stick to their build as long as it works for them. Idra plays 95% of his games with same build order, same style, it works for him, and he'll probably continue to play it as long as it works. MorroW won a major tournament with one build, once it stopped working, he moved onto another builds.

Same with SeleCT. He has a vP build that works well, and he will continue to use it until it stops working. Then he will find another build that works. HuK had a chance to watch that build being used against KiwiKaki and Tyler, and still lost to it, so I wouldn't say the only thing that is good in SeleCT's play is his build. He's a beast and I'm sure whatever build he decides to use next after this one stops working will be equally strong.

I agree.

It's pretty obvious that SeleCT is easily one of the best foreigners, It's impossible to say right know who is the best for sure and make a list after so little time, sure jinro, haypro are in korea, but they haven't really done anything yet. It's obvious that TLO and idra are among the best but i honestly would put SeleCT on at least the same level, up there with them too. Winning 2 TL opens in a row with 512(?) players in each is VERY impressive. But watching him at MLG, seeing how many matches he played through without resting even the slightest, and watching him beat just so many amazing players to get to the finals really made me realize how good he actually is. It would've been pretty damn unbelievable if he had won after and im not sure if anyone expected him to after all the mental exhaustion.

People bashing people for using the same build orders all the time clearly arent familiar with starcraft.

SeleCT isn't really a "foreigner" though. He's Korean and just in the USA for school.

You can't say he is one of the best when only his TvT and TvP is any good. He played well in the tournament but his TvZ was horrible.

Also I'm sure you are not saying that inControL and Tyler aren't familiar with starcraft? :o

I also disagree with the SeleCT bashing. Even Tyler admitted he thought he 'had his number' and then got 3-1'd by exactly the same style. I've seen a lot of replays of SeleCT playing some European tournaments, and using a lot of banshees in TvT as well, I just think he is incredibly solid.

Frankly it's disappointing to see that arguably the best player in America right now is not receiving the reputation he deserves solely because he isn't here posting, or appearing on podcasts to defend himself. Thankfully he also appears to be the kind of person who does not care what people think of him (why else would he make that comment about the NA zergs? what will happen when he loses on the ladder to an NA zerg now? :p)

SeleCT is great, and while his style may be singular, I still learn a lot more from watching his replays than I do from watching replays of anyone else at that tournament, bar HuK, Kiwi and IdrA

Yea he didn't play well vs Idra, but he did beat Slush 2-1(the best NA zerg besides Idra). Considering that SeleCT is a mass gamer, I wouldn't expect him to have a very strong TvZ unless he actually had a good zerg to practice against.

Agree with you guys about SeleCT. He's just damn good. That's all there is to it. Anyone who has ever been competitive in the SC always says: "at a tournament, stick to what you practiced". Well he did just that! And it was beautiful to watch.

I was present for the recording of this and all I have to say is that being able to see the facial expressions of these guys and their interactions and reactions were priceless in almost every case. If you think iNcontroL is funny in these podcasts, imagine what it's like in a room full of people cracking up at everything he says, it was amazing.

If you only download one audio-based StarCraft 2 related file this year, let it be this most recent SotG! =D

I'm amazed that even after iNcontroL insulted him once, he basically backslaps him yet again in the follow-up discussion. The funny thing is he aludes to the "play one style, like a robot (Idra)" and yet he accuses SelecT of a "single build" style. I mean, all we saw was muta/bling from Idra - and executed INCREDIBLY well. But you don't hear anyone criticizing Idra's ZvT do you?

Execution is everything. And yet, apparently it's a character flaw for SelecT, but not Idra.

Idra has to somewhat adapt based on what his opponent is doing, but Select didn't even make ghosts against Tyler when the game dragged on and he was on 3-4 bases. Also Idra didn't make mutaling every game.

Anyway, doing exactly the same build over and over again in a tournament is not good. Doing it most of the time is fine, but you do have to vary a bit.

IdrA used several styles throughout the tournament. Granted it was mostly muta/bling/ling for Terran and more of a Roach/Hydra set for Protoss, he didn't do the -same- thing every game. SeleCT's MMM works so incredibly well vs. Protoss on large maps because his effective APM is nuts and Protoss just doesn't have a lot of options to defend even if they know it's coming. KiWiKaKi MIRACULOUSLY won that game on Metalopolis vs. SeleCT and HuK watched that whole series sitting next to me, knew what was coming, and still was powerless to stop it in game 1.
