Agreed... Anna calling in randomly and interrupting everyone just reeks of desperation for attention... It might have been funny to some people the first couple of times, but now it's just plain annoying. Yes please fire her.2 hours is already short I dont want her to waste that time.

Anna seems pretty cool but yeah I have to agree, the calling in thing is getting boring.
I got annoyed last week when Tyler was talking about something and it just cut in the middle of it, tbh I would prefer it if incontrol just muted his mic when Anna rings and talks to her rather than this awkward silence and her distorted voice over the stream.
If she rang in during question time and asked a question I'd have no issue with that, but as a listener I think it is taking away from the quality of the podcast if she rings in halfway through someone explaining something.

It seems to me some people have an obsession with professionality. Haven't you guys seen how dull things get when there's too much of it. It almost becomes like work. I don't listen to people working, that is retarded. The moment SoTG becomes this dry, uptight bullshit I'm done with it.
That said, Anna can call anytime - even thought I can never hear her that well - she even has the best questions.

Annas questions are really good i dont see why ppl are getting pissed lol

You mean when Tyler was "dropping down some serious fucking knowledge"?
There was hot coffee coming out of my nose when he said that.
I liked it when she called as an accidental thing, but now that it's more of a scheduled thing it feels really awkward.

OMG THIS. People say things like "I don't like this because it's unprofessional", it's exactly like saying "I don't like this because it is blue". It's dumb.
Yesterday I went out with some friends but we dumped one on the way, he was acting so unprofessional !
>< edit : I don't talk about Anna here. Just talking about people who use the professional argument to say something is good or bad.

No one is even talking about professionalism lol. Anna should call at the end or something if she really must... a lot of people have a problem with her constant interruptions, it won't turn the podcast into "dry, uptight bullshit" fyi

Like a few other people wrote; I listen to SotG because it's a fun & relaxing show about SC2 and more (i.ex horses), with a dash of top notch knowledge.. if they'd started to take themselves way too serious all the fun would go away, Tyler wouldn't be able to stay as chill as we all like him to beat, Day9 would have to watch his uncontrolable laugh outbreaks, iNcontroL would have to hold back in his rants, and JP would have to be über uptight..
..now where's the fun in that? :\
I love SotG the way it is, I'm even watching it live (and it usually ends around 7-8am CET) - if they made it "more professional" I'd probably wouldn't bother to watch the VODs..

Why does it have to be uber proffesional? Like when Anna called in I laughed pretty hard because tyler was in this rant and got completely ignored haha.
|
It'd be more interesting if their conversations didn't consistent of 50% pauses and awkward silences and 50% one-word lines.
|
I still find it funny when Anna calls in. Interrupting an interesting conversation and the tortured sighs is actually half of the joke and calling during question time would be pointless. The other half is the question actually being informed and reasonably interesting. If you do not like it and are listening to the live broadcast, not the recording, you can use the call as an opportunity for a quick dash to the bathroom.
I suspect I would like the show a lot less if it would get more serious.
By the way: the one show with everyone drunk and the depressing show when Tyler had his TSL loss and hid under a blanket for a week and did not follow any leagues: I liked those, too.
I do not think I would want a repeat of those shows, but every single SotG being the same format with the same style would have been less interesting than having the occasional show that is a bit off and thus interesting the first time it happens. Being too serious and planning too much (and listening to opinions too much) would perhaps make that impossible.

My feelings: First two times the calling in was funny. After that it felt staged and wasn't that fun, the questions suddenly become really good though, perfectly on topic what a major topic on the forums has been that week. That makes for a good segment. But I can't understand what she's saying what it's through Geoff's phone -> mic (where's your webcam btw, don't leave your friends hanging, get webcamming).
A proposition: So what I would propose is to keep Anna but make it an actual segment, have her call in through skype or use Geoff's mic when she get's home. Formulate one really good question to start up the "forum topic of the week". Allow everyone to talk about that a bit before going into the other users questions. I feel that's a fair way of doing it, has high quality, and removes a lot of the things that are hindering about the seemingly random call ins.
Expansion: To further expand, when it interrupts someone that is talking, that makes me cringe. I want to hear the person finish his points. And with the webcams looking at that persons face, you can see he is atleast not enjoying it, nobody would, you want to be heard. Put in a different way, if anyone else called anyone else, there is no way you would pick up. It's like a meeting, emergency's only otherwise you just wait until the end of the meeting for a call back. We don't have to be available 247, it's perfectly fine to ignore, especially since she's totally aware of it.
Summary: So to summarize because I'm ranting like mad. Make Anna's part into a segment just before the user questions start, where she asks one "hot forum topic of the week" question. And have her call in through Skype or use Geoff's mic, because the audio quality makes it really hard to understand her.
Edit on topic of professionalism: The criticism has nothing to do with professionalism, obviously we don't care and the podcast will always be casual and fun. It's just that the segment is very poor quality and many people can't enjoy it anymore. Don't throw it on professionalism. It could be an unprofessional, but high quality segment and the opinions would be a lot different.

I've been a lot into balance discussion but it's getting old, people shouold just stop talking about that until something else happen.
The protoss community is so tired that they get agressiv every time somebody comes up with something about ZvP, and the zergs just needs to justify their loss every game, stating how broken the game is. Let's just call a truce for the time being.

fixed!
Anna calling in is totally fine, but i cant hear what she is saying at all
if shes calling in when top notch knowledge is being shared maybe incontrol can take a message until the questions round.
"Heres a question from Anna: (insert question)"

The people that complain about Anna, do you even listen or watch the show? JP and everyone else on there (save maybe Day9) have said numerous times that they shit on just about everything going on in Starcraft 2 during their two hour session.
Their podcast is done in heavy satire of just about everything. It's not meant to be this super serious week in review. They're having fun bantering about what has happened since their last podcast. Professionalism went out the door when they did their drunken State of the Game. If you're seriously tuning into State of the Game for consistent insightful review done in the utmost professionalism and class - stop. You're going to be disappointed and waste your time. If you're tuning in to get a recap on what has been happening in the Starcraft 2 community, that's when you're going to get the most out of the show.

feel free to read the thread next time buddy!

I don't want SotG to become more "professional." As one of the pillars already claimed several pages earlier in the thread, the show isn't professional. It's a public discussion of some of the community's most pressing issues, but it's done in a light-hearted manner that is both entertaining and educational.
If the show becomes too professional, it practically becomes akin to dry PBS or CSPAN discussion programs. That would be a tragedy.
Heck, SotG had a drunk show some months ago, where a ton of vulgarity was thrown around. Even so, it was one of the most entertaining shows that they've done, and there is probably a large segment of the community that enjoys such a non-serious atmosphere to the show.
SotG has the right people for a serious, controversial discussion. However, it's not the right show for such a discussion. If there is enough demand for a more serious, professional show, then another program or show should be created to satisfy those demands. Until then, I want to continue to enjoy SotG's unique atmosphere of banter, laughter, and discussion.

I want another drunken show

Lol at the defence squad that uses "professionalilty is bad" excuse. Its not about being professional, its about common sense to not interupt someone when they are talking or do you also call that "professional"? Just have her call on a time so its not in the middle of somebody talking.
