That he didn't learn anything or see anything impressive, mostly because he won 3-0 and his opponent sucked. Well, I guess I'll admit that the opponents weren't quite good enough for MC to show really interesting stuff with. But I mean, HongUn beat Jinro, which is probably the best foreigner in the world right now, Byun was the code A runner up and a pretty solid player, and July has taken out both Clide and Nada. The fact that MC didn't just beat, but crushed these guys without dropping a single game seems to show that he is a damn good player. It isn't that informative seeing him make S class pros like July, HongUn, and Byun look like nubby nub nub three men in a tub, but it hard to take as anything other than a testament to his skill. I think you're missing the point slightly. For the MC and HongUn series, it was a PvP and I think Tyler wanted to learn something about top level PvP in korea. I actually watched the series with the exact same intent. But then as soon as HongUn goes and drops his second gas SUPER early and lets MC see it, I was just like "Oh.. well, MC can just 4gate and win" ...and that's exactly what happened ...for two out of the three games. The other game was entertaining from a spectator perspective, but the builds were both standard. Hence, he didn't learn anything.
I agreed that it was not particularly informative, I was just noting that that does not speak poorly of MC's impressive abilities. It is more of a criticism of his opponents than of him (or of him for being SO good that his opponents look like scrubs).

Keep on rockin' Tyler. Most people don't know yet but you're going to win TSL3.
I would love if InControl and Tyler came first and second in a major tournament this year. The subsequent SOTG cast would a hilarious shit-talking fest of epic proportions.

Everyone should send in questions about Day9 responding to Artosis' call to battle!

so why are we staring at a cat for incontrol? because he doesnt own a 5$ webcam?

I wonder... am I the only one that misses their analysis on how the game is currently played? Last summer they picked out one match-up an episode and gave their thoughts, which I found interesting. Especially with the standard plays shifting this way and that, you could rotate through the six match-ups and discuss the new 'standards' or - in case nothing much happened - new plays from top players that might change the match up.
Currently I'm slowly losing interest, because it's more or less only what happened in the big tourneys (=GSL atm) last week and user questions.
Oh.. and I miss day9 on the cast.

I can't believe that Tyler and iNcontroL continue to do State of the Game after all the shit that they get from it. They contribute to JP's show, which is free content, and all they ever hear for it is crap. Yes, I think that iNcontroL speaks out of line sometimes. Yes, I think that Tyler should put more effort into practice. But you know what? They are very talented players, cornerstones of the community, who are donating their time to give us an entertaining product.
SoTG just did their 30th episode, and each one is 2 hours long or longer. That's five full days of recording that they could have spent with their wife/girlfriend, or practicing, or working out, or whatever. Sure, they get some notoriety from the show, and some fans, but they also get targets painted of their backs for having their opinions be so public. It disgusts me how much nonconstructive criticism (note the word "nonconstructive") keeps getting throw at them.
Tyler, you've been my favorite player for years, and you'll always be nony to me. You're awesome. iNcontroL, you're a baller and I hope the NASL opens up a career path for you. Thank you, and JP, Day[9], Idra, and all of the guests for giving us a great show. Screw the haters.
This man speaks the truth.
Regardless of what people think about SotG, its production, hosts, topics, attitude or content, this show is ultimately about professional or semi-professional gamers and avid members of the community discussing their honest opinions. It gives viewers a lens that allows them to see the world of competitive starcraft through the eyes of a prominent community member. The show gives character to its hosts and guests, and lets us, the viewers/listeners, get to know our favorite players better. That's actually one of the greatest strenghts of the show; SotG isn't a professional, but rather casual talkshow (although it does have professional-level production value) where the hosts and guests shouldn't have to watch everything they say so closely. This clashes a little bit when a representative from a powerhouse company is featured (you guys gave a hard time to Sundance who is really working to have Starcraft II grow even if he doesn't know much about it) but you are able to make very valid points about any problems they may have with rules or organizing an event, which can be used to improve future events.
Regardless of any issues I have with SotG (you guys hate europeans, although not really ), I wish JP, inControl, Tyler, Day[9] and Idra keep the show alive and keep doing more episodes. The show is a great contribution to the community.
Keep up the good work.

I agree that would be cool to hear how is the state of the game right now, but I don't know how much conversation could you get from it. Still would be cool. In a way they do touch on it though when talking about strats. Can't say I'm losing interest though, still completely awesome x)
I don't really love when they start talking an hour about a tournament formats and stuff but that's good too, need to be talked about. Agree on Day9 part but IdrA is awesome too! Really glad he is on it so much. Artosis is cool too.

I just listened to the latest episode of SotG and at the end iNcontroL was asking why cats go limp if you grab them by the backs of the necks...
...It's because that's how mother cats move around their kittens when they're really young and can't walk correctly yet. They bite them softly on the skin of their neck to carry them and move them place to place. So I guess even as they get older, they still have that sense hard wired in them to just go limp.
FYI.

the Manifesto comment from IdrA was pure gold ^___^ classic

oh, I think I missed that.. what did he say? (or timestamp pls )

FYI. Nono Tylers pets are ferrets not cats and them going limp is and old yet completely useless defensive mechanism.

so if anyone disagrees with SOTG or criticises it then they are flaming retards who are the vocal minority, I havent been flaming this thread but wow talk about blind fanboyism
surely any discussion show on any topic is exactly that, a discussion show, so by publicly airing their opinions im sure the gents on SOTG are expecting both approval and disapproval, hell they often say things knowing they're controversial and enjoy it - hoping and expecting contrasting views, makes em feel good and they're not defenseless little kids who need 100 fanboys sticking up for them LOL, sycophants

Echoing an earlier thought I really enjoyed the talks about specific match-ups each SotG and wish you guys could begin doing that again. Perhaps starting with a ZvP one, given that there have been some pretty notable changes to the matchup with this new Mass/baneling/expand style.

I think what everyone is trying to say is that the show is great and thank you to SotG for offering a podcast free of charge to the Starcraft community.

Hi, I'm new here. Big fan of SOTG and I just kind of wanted to chip in on what you guys were talking about towards the end of this episode, about all the 'new blood' at TL.
30 Second life story: I played Starcraft/BW when it was released but I never 'got into' it, and mainly only played the single player and online a few times before I forgot it even existed around ~2003. Same with War3, but I got hopelessly addicted to WoW.
Flash Forward to February 2010 and I get a SC2 Beta invite! sweet! I play it for about a month off and on, and then forget it exists. Sometime over last summer I discovered HD and Husky's videos, and I got super addicted to watching others play. Eventually HD/Husky led me to Day9 (a bit after the SC2 launch), and from Day9 I find out about Team Liquid, and from TL I found out about the GSL... Which I've been watching non stop since half-way through Season 3... I still really need to go back and buy S1/2 :x ... I don't think I ever watch HD/Husky anymore, and Day9's daily is getting pushed to the back burner more often (I'm like 10 episodes behind right now, don't tell him!)...
I'm a silver league player because I enjoy watching SC2 FAR more then I enjoy playing it. I think laddering simply for the sake of laddering is stupid, but I greatly enjoy playing this game with my friends... I'm one of the nice new guys here at TL, I don't troll, I love the funny picture thread, and I'll contribute if I think I can add something to the discussion, but I don't feel the need to post just to watch my magical post counter rise. Plus I'm smart enough to know that I know ALMOST jack shit about strategy, so I'd likely be wasting my time critiqueing others anyway.
So anyway, I just wanted to say keep up the good work, you can enjoy SC without playing in Master's league, and there are a ton of TL.net Newbies who are actually mild mannered and reasonable, don't let the vocal minority sway your opinions too much.

This was a great post! I get tired of seeing flaming post of guys that doesn't do shit for the community and don't have any credits to even be in the same conversation with the top guys.. I mean come on what can a lower player (like me btw) argue with tyler/idra/noni/artosis about game balance, face it they play the game in a higher level and have a much deeper understanding of the game than all non top players like themselves..
Or course everybody has a opinion but sometimes people should just take other people's opinions for what they are.. OPINIONS! It's like taste.. everybody has them and it's always different.
This is a great show and very informative and funny. I like the format, it's like a late news show with the "bad boys" instead of the prime time news show with everything 100% politically correct!
Thank you very much and keep up the good work!

Thanks for taking the complaints seriously JP. I appreciate that the options are limited when working within a tight (or nonexistent) budget. It seems like I'm part of a small but fairly vocal minority.
My suggestion would be uploading the video to youtube and letting us have at the mp3 via utilities that pluck audio from youtube videos. I'm aware the issue is deeper than just throwing it up wherever, so at the very least, I appreciate that you're aware of this annoyance and are looking at potential improvements.
