Guess I missed the comment about Scarlett though. there was no misogyny, just nerds getting upset over nothing the scarlett joke was pretty funny.. the context was hooking up with esports girls and he just made the joke "maybe i'll go with scarlett, best of both worlds", obviously poking fun at the fact that she's transgendered.. who cares. You have to be able to joke about every group of people, saying it's okay to joke about this group but not okay to joke about this other group is just hypocritical. The context was obviously in light hearted fun, I doubt 2GD is a misogynist or any of the guys at SOTG and I highly doubt he hates transgender people.. you all need to lighten the fuk up. Either you haven't been paying attention to the amount of cruelty and ignorance portrayed towards Scarlett and transgendered people for merely being transgendered, or you don't really know how to make a joke in good taste. This is a terrible argument. So we aren't supposed to make fun of transgendered people because they're transgendered? what about black people for being black, white people for being white, asian for asian, etc. I don't understand why society takes issue with one particular group but "no it's okay to make fun of this other group", transgendered people are humans too, I think the last thing they want is for people to treat them differently, which is exactly what you're doing by putting a moratorium on joking about them. context is big and the joke 2GD made was completely harmless. Wow, whatever happened to respecting people? I certainly never said you should go around making fun of everyone else except for transgendered people, so why *you* think it's okay to make fun of everyone for no reason is beyond me. There's a difference between making a good-natured joke that makes fun of a person or group, and being deliberately cruel towards someone, especially in regards to something biological or some other part of their identity. I think that belittling someone's sexual identity- a trait that a person has no control over and, in the case especially of those who aren't heterosexual and gender "straight", are stigmatized for- falls into the latter category, and is not an innocent joke. I think an example of an innocent joke at Scarlett's expense would be how at a previous tournament (that she either won, or she just won a big match), when she was about to be interviewed on stage, she just ran off into the audience and didn't really wait around to be asked questions... and then people mocked and mimicked her actions of just deliberately leaving after a win or ignoring those big highlighted situations. But not "oh she's transgendered? i'll go after her instead of the other women, because she's both a man and a woman", which is what 2GD implied with his "best of both worlds" comment, and something I find a little too personally harsh. Anyways, it's late here, and I don't want to rant anymore about this. SotG was wonderful tonight I guess society is never supposed to joke at anyone or anything ever. Grow up dude, you have to be able to laugh at yourself, no one should EVER be uptight about anything. The world is a crazy place full of crazy people who come from a variety of backgrounds, yes you should respect them on one level but on another it's fine to joke about them, that is a form of acceptance believe it or not.
The context of the joke is all that matters, I doubt 2GD made that joke out of spite or hatred for Scarlett, it was just a FUNNY joke. He's not being deliberately cruel, you can interpret the joke however you want but at the end of the day, he was just poking fun at the fact that she's transgendered. I HIGHLY doubt he was implying that "she's a horrible person for being transgendered and all transgendered people should die".
There's no belittling going on anywhere dude. Just lighten up.

yeah, because there are no comedians who make fun of the catholic church because of that, right?
Hell, some of the best comedians out there use topics like that. You should watch Jimmy Carr man, you might enjoy it.

Ok so here's the issue I have here, was the scarlett joke funny? it was clever, I laughed, 2GD is a hillarious person and for the most part I enjoy watching his shit.
But it wasn't harmless, and that's what bothers me, when you single out someone you don't even know and have never talked to to laugh at their expense, that's just not cool, I talk ungodly amounts of shit about people I dislike in private, to my friends, hell I laugh at racist, sexist, handicap jokes more often than i'd like to, we all talk shit, its our nature. I get that its a joke: the 'best of both worlds thing' but it really rubs me the wrong way, make that joke when you're with your 5 friends drinking, but single-ing out someone, with 6000 people watching, someone you probably don't know and you've never talked to -that's not fucking cool- its not 'speaking your mind', its not a 'oh ahhaha its 2GD and he has no filter, there's no line he can't cross, its all good!" its just not, its just plain out being insensitive as fuck and having no respect for another human being -for no fucking reason- idk, its just a bit low, that's all, and that's just my opinion. Life goes on, you live you learn, #yolo. first and foremost, I love you catz i'm a huge fan but there are some major inconsistencies going on here, first off you draw the line at making jokes about other people when there's viewers watching, to that I ask you what difference does it make? a joke is a joke, whether it's said to 5 people or 5000. How many times has a joke singled out someone that the joker him/herself doesn't know..? I mean look at every comedian in existence, in every single act they'll single out a celebrity or a cultural icon that they presumably do not know.
Also the joke seemed harmless enough to me, there was nothing spiteful about the joke he made, it was just poking fun at scarlett. I mean she's not special or anything, neither are you and I and especialy not 2GD. So why not make the joke? If you are able to make fun of a group of people, surely you're able to make fun of someone you don't know.. that's not necessarily singling out. I don't think he's out to GET scarlett at all, he just made a joke about the fact that she's transgendered and that's all.

Thank you Catz, you hit the nail on the head. I'm glad everyone doesn't have the simplistic opinion of "These people get shit on, and these people get shit on. Everyone should get shit on equally!". Instead of accepting it because everyone else does it. It would be nice for everyone to have respect, especially in this community where it's held as a standard.

Transgender isn't a race. oh ok. tell me what else we can't joke about since you're obviously the authority on morality This x10. You should be able to joke and discuss about either everything or nothing, transgender, islam, etc child molestation, rape, mass murderers, holocausts, genocide--so much material that is overlooked because of people's sensitivities. its really a shame. yeah, because there are no comedians who make fun of the catholic church because of that, right? Hell, some of the best comedians out there use topics like that. You should watch Jimmy Carr man, you might enjoy it. nothing like a good joke about fucking a child to get you going in the morning! seriously though, i went to the extreme to show the absurdity of the statement that you can joke about everything regardless of people's sensitivities. i honestly thought that nobody would try to justify it. silly me--this is the internet.....
Yes, you can. Because it's a joke. You might not like it or find it offensive, but you have no right to judge somebody who laughs at it. For example, I find this video hilarious:
+ Show Spoiler +
Am I a bad person?

Look, it's not about whether you joke about something is right or wrong, it's about if you CAN joke about it. The thing about jokes is other people have to find it funny. If other people don't find it funny, and instead find it offensive or damaging, then guess what that's something you can't joke about. I mean if you find it funny, that's great good for you. A schizo will laugh at his jokes all the time, but you don't see him selling tickets.
Look, if people laugh at a trans-sexual joke, then you can joke about it., and it's all good. If people don't laugh, then it's not something you can joke about. It's not about any moral high ground or any bullshit about that, it's about people finding the humor in it, and if people don't find the humor in whatever you joke about, guess what, you're not funny.

Many people do, and will continue to do so. Many comedians have become millionaires making such jokes. Your surprise is odd. You must have a lot of judging to do in your life. I think the most important part of Catz's point is that making a joke so you can single someone out is probably the worst part. At least that's what felt most offensive to me.

Wait a fucking second lol. I didn't hear the whole thing till just now. Really? Transgender isn't a race.
That's just the way I see it dude, the joke might be harmless to you, and it might seem harmless to scarlett, but in the off-chance that it isn't, I'd stray away from it, its a touchy, sensitive subject. Its not the same thing to make a joke to 5 people than it is to 5000, respect may not be tangible but its very real. easy example: one of my best friend's dad passed away the week before father's day, The last thing i'd do is ask him "what are you doing on the weekend?" he might have great plans for the weekend, he might even tell me "well my mom's feeling really sad so we're going here or there" on his own, but out of respect, im not gonna poke at him. Lets say you're hanging out with 3 of my friends and then one arrives with a gay friend, you don't know him, and even though you might call your friends jokingly "fags" ocasionally, you probably won't while he's there. Why? because you might get beat up? likely not... just out of fucking -respect- in the off chance that it might offend him or that it might make him feel awkward. Now apply a similar concept, except its not 5-6 people its 6,000. R-e-s-p-e-c-t. moar example: I am peruvian, and my friends in ROOT joke about it, KiWi calls me a Mexican all the time, they make up names for me, and we do the same for the frenchies, and we call TT1 a suicide bomber and make fun of the fact that he hacked, we know each other, we know it doesn't bother us, we know we're cool with it, we know we're not trying to be offensive towards anyone, its harmless fun, it doesn't make us racists or terrible people. Lets set another hypothetical, very simple example: I'd ok with drewbie saying "omg you're a fucking spic!" I can joke about my skin color myself, or my beliefs, culture, I have an interview about Taco Bell... I mean... its cool. etc. But that doesn't mean that if I was walking on the street and two random people said "omg look at that spic!" it wouldn't bother me. It would disgust me, to the point where I might go and kick their asses (unless they're too big, but it'd still make me uncomfortable). Boundaries, Respect, I am not even saying "OMG THIS IS NOT COOL TO JOKE ABOUT THIS!"
Lets take a look at this reddit thread for example, since it is a sensitive, recent subject : http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/151iur/wtf_cnn_just_revealed_that_serial_killer_adam/ The most upvoted comment is: Flymite I knew so many ZvZ finals could piss a guy off but damn..
its clever, its funny, I laughed even upvoted. Its not directed to anyone, and chances are, no one will be affected by that comment. Now lets say the thread was made by someone who had a relative injured or dead in the shooting. If you are aware of that fact, and you're still making jokes about it, you're an insensitive, disrespectful -douchebag-.
So in short, I am not trying to tell anyone what to think about any subject in particular, fuck, if you wanna say spic, nigger, chink, faggot, or make a racist or sexist joke, go for it, I won't judge, I won't get offended, I might even laugh. But when you single out a single person for no reason, ESPECIALLY if you don't know them, that just bugs me, its pathetic.
TL,DR: Respect
