At least people know that there is new episode out, when all the small things people thought was offensive are being discussed in this thread. Drama is part of SotG. :D

You wanna talk about growing a community, stop treating women like objects. Hi, welcome to the real world. I don't know where you have been all these years but this happens across the whole western society across the whole spectrum of society(as in old, young, rich, poor). The only difference is that people don't say it in public and act like holy knights. Its evident with the choice of jobs most women end up working in or the way they need to behave to further their careers, they are still mostly treated like objects. I don't support what 2gd said, but this is not exclusive to gaming communities.

Thanks for replying. You apparently didn't read the post where I said it was my personal opinion and I don't expect everyone to have the same views as me. I'm not pinning this on anyone besides 2GD really, besides that the crew could have handled it a little better. I'm glad Catz responded so quickly on twitter though.

You have to be able to joke about every group of people, saying it's okay to joke about one group but not okay to joke about another group is just hypocritical. The context was obviously in light hearted fun, I doubt 2GD is a misogynist or any of the guys at SOTG and I highly doubt he hates transgender people.. you all need to lighten the fuk up. Ok. Yeah, that's a pretty innocent joke. You could argue it was unnecessary, sure, but it's not a big deal. (the proverbial you, didn't mean you as in daxile) If that was all there was to it I call this case closed.

This is a terrible argument. So we aren't supposed to make fun of transgendered people because they're transgendered? what about black people for being black, white people for being white, asian for asian, etc. I don't understand why society takes issue with one particular group but "no it's okay to make fun of this other group", transgendered people are humans too, I think the last thing they want is for people to treat them differently, which is exactly what you're doing by putting a moratorium on joking about them. context is big and the joke 2GD made was completely harmless.

He often crosses the line of what is considered PC. Some people love him and some people hate him for this. He is not going to change regardless. I like him.

To quote one of my old co-workers: "It isn't racism if you're equally shitty to everyone" Might not be a great way to go about life, but I think it raises a valid point. When it comes to these Howard Stern-type roasts it's not really fair to exempt one group of people from being at the end of the joke. That is, as long as it's not threatening or going to compromise someone's career.

I don't support what 2gd said, but this is not exclusive to gaming communities. I'm not saying that it is exclusive to the gaming community. I feel that if the gaming community wants to expand itself then it should look upon people like 2gb who want to make outrageous comments for the hell of it and say 'Not Today'. Everyone I think here wants to grow e-sports to a position where it compete with "Real sports" and I want to help grow E-sports to be a competitior amongst those traditional sports like NRL, Basketball, Baseball. I think in order to do this we have to act a little better than "Real Sports" we need to be more accepting than "Real Sports" and say, It doesn't matter who or what you are, if you like competitive video games then you can be a part of this. But the way 2gb acted, whether or not he was intoxicated and the way others have said "Its a joke, ligten up". It just adds to this view that gamers is about guys, its a hyper-masculine community in which girls can't participate in unless they good look and act like we want them to act. I've written about this before over at Day9.tv. and it got a few responses and opened up some good discussion. And if E-sports wants to grow. Its a discussion that needs to be had. I love SoTG, Its a great show, Its superb and important for many reasons. But the comments nearing the end of the show just bought me back to this position of 'Oh! Well I guess we can't be better than "real world". Why should we accept the status quo? Why can't we, as a community, break down the barriers that the "real world" has yet to conquer? Those are my thoughts, I think this is probably best discussed in another thread. Thanks to JP and the guys for another great show. Looking forward to more in 2013.

Wow, whatever happened to respecting people? I certainly never said you should go around making fun of everyone else except for transgendered people, so why *you* think it's okay to make fun of everyone for no reason is beyond me. There's a difference between making a good-natured joke that makes fun of a person or group, and being deliberately cruel towards someone, especially in regards to something biological or some other part of their identity. I think that belittling someone's sexual identity- a trait that a person has no control over and, in the case especially of those who aren't heterosexual and gender "straight", are stigmatized for- falls into the latter category, and is not an innocent joke. I think an example of an innocent joke at Scarlett's expense would be how at a previous tournament (that she either won, or she just won a big match), when she was about to be interviewed on stage, she just ran off into the audience and didn't really wait around to be asked questions... and then people mocked and mimicked her actions of just deliberately leaving after a win or ignoring those big highlighted situations. But not "oh she's transgendered? i'll go after her instead of the other women, because she's both a man and a woman", which is what 2GD implied with his "best of both worlds" comment, and something I find a little too personally harsh. Anyways, it's late here, and I don't want to rant anymore about this. SotG was wonderful tonight ![]()
