Balance is not about time or motivation (as stated by the panel) it is all about numbers. The more players that play it, the easier it is to balance the game. It is not about money or motivation.

This is the product of holding the regionals and continentals months and months ago, the players that qualified in April/May of this year are in some cases no longer top players. Also Terrans got screwed in KR with the patch timing right before the WCS KR qualifiers. Building up to a big tournament at the end of the year sounds good in theory but the scene moves too fast and top players change too often. For example, from the players in the top 8 of the current GSL season only one of them is going to BWC.

Thing is, SC2 Champion of 2012 doesn't just mean who's best in Nov/Dec. Winning during April/May still counts as part of 2012. Plus those tournaments were legit tournaments on their own (except for the MLG ones but other than that).

I'll tune in some to see the production and stuff, but in terms of quality of players it's a pretty low level tournament. MLG was more stacked and the upcoming IPL 5 is more stacked than this. The quality of players here is slightly above a DH. There are just too many foreigners here and they will get destroyed pretty easily here.

I still think this tournament is an awful way to determine the " world champion " or " best player of 2012 " It should be based on performance in every tournament the player enters for the entire year, if BWC was the only tournament for sc2 like it is for World of Warcraft then it would work and make sense. No other tournament has players who qualify 6+ months before the finals and may no longer be in good shape attending. Also, not nearly enough slots for KR players. If all countries were equal in sc2 skill it would be fine but the competition is not tough enough compared to IPL5 or Iron Squid 2.

For example, from the players in the top 8 of the current GSL season only one of them is going to BWC. Not really. The players that qualified in April/May weren't the top players in Korea at the time either. In fact, they never were top players. HerO, Rain, Parting, Creator? Okay, I can get that. Maybe I can pinch for stephano. The reality is that none of the na, even the europeans (minus maybe stephano) that are attending, deserve to be allowed in a tournament fighting for "world champion", and it takes away from the tournament. And it's unfortunate and I hope the gap closes remotely in the future and that the attendance is better in the next one because it's an awesome tournament. But, in the end, I see it as "a tournament that teams decided to send some players to", not "holy shit it's the best players in the world going head to head".
