just wondering.... does anybody know how the SC2 engine handles sight? Obviously all the data for unit location etc must exist on each players pc during the game. Are certain ~layers(lack of a better name)~ made visable/invis based on other unit locations?? or have I been using autoCAD and photo shop for waaayyy too long.

Doesnt matter if its once per person. The fact is, people will report people for stupid reasons if they know it would bring someone closer to ban. Me reporting someone once may not get them banned, but it will contribute towards them getting banned.

How about if someone gets reported 5 times, he will be investigated by Blizzard?

Isn't it by reporting, and then Blizzard having the final say? What? We seem to be agreeing... you should watch the replay before you report hacking or else you are relying solely on your suspicions which is bullshit. that's unfair for blizzard and unfair for the player. And if people are constantly wrong about hackers then I believe blizzard would stop taking it so seriously and we would all be fucked.

Oh cool so blizzard employees have to filter through a high amount of people's fake reports and determine a credibility rating for each person who submits then. Rather than just having it so you report and blizzard looks into the report themselves.
Thats why you dont give people any power to influence bans or penalties. You can inform, but saying X reports then the person is banned is dumb.

I don't understand why everyone wants these maphackers to be banned.. does noboby want the "Beat 5 Maphackers" achievement?
But seriously, map hackers are lame. But it's absolutely hilarious that you beat him lol

it would cause an outrage, but they should make hacking in any game result in a zero tolerance total blizzard account closage. the same people that hack on sc2 probably bot on WoW and vice versa. bet they would never even consider cheating if it meant losing an account full of lvl 80 WoW chars!

You can inform, but saying X reports then the person is banned is dumb. What the hell are you talking about. How is 'looking at a credibility rating' worse than 'looking into the report themselves'? Actually it isn't even a substitute. If you ban by tally alone, then you're doing it wrong. Imagine how this goes:
Blizzard employee starts working. Looks on his screen and looks at the list of people who have been reported. This list is sorted by the number of times they are reported (in some way summed up). Because the people reported most often are most likely to be hacking/abusing and you want to get rid of those first. Blizzard employee checks the reports one by one until enough (perhaps one) reports show up as positive. If the reports are unjustified, then the ones who have reported could be flagged/penalized in the way that their reports don't add to the tally as strong as others'. Thus improving the overall sorting of users by number of report (summed in that special way). If you don't grasp this concept please don't argue against it.

Well, it's an entirely new game, and there are probably a total of 2-5 public maphacks at most available, so what's going to happen is this:
Server side update -> tagging accounts for some time, possibly months -> massive banwave which sends strong signals. Also, profit.
|
The issue was that it was proposed as an automated system that blizzard would then have to go back through and check to make sure it worked in every single case anyways.

I second this. Cheaters deserve to be punished severely (although public humiliation, like this thread, is a nice start).

Mass banning after long time is good only for Blizzard, no one else.
Consider that ppl with weak minds see that those "hackers" ( I don't like ppl using this word having in mind bunch of losers that just download some hacks from internet) dot get punished and also start using those tools. Also there will be for sure some fools that would try to cheat in normal circumstances but when "everyone else use it" they would also start using it. No reaction just make more ppl use hacks and more ppl (those who play fair) will have their game spoiled. Also as someone said before, more bans can give more income. :|
I also don't think so assigning a few ppl to check reports with replays where cheating is just obvious, checking other replays of reported player and other info (for sure they have access to replays and other useful stuff) and simply ban just after making sure about it. Frequent bans to hack users would at least make some players think twice before using hacks.

I think it's on the contrary rather, i.e. you don't notice it if a few hackers get banned here and there but if they blast them with a 50k accounts banwave it's going to show. It's a valid strategy that they've been using for ages.

I am sure the new hacks will filter out your inputs so you are not caught looking into the fog of war on the replay.
