Why not have the pregame countdown.....
..after the loading screen?!
<match found> 3.. 2.. 1... <random loading delay> <game starts>
-or-
<match found> <random loading delay> 3.. 2.. 1... <game starts>
Edit: I thought of this after having caught drinking or eating during loading screen then 2 or 3 seconds behind at the very beginning of the game. I am genius

I assume you want this for mouse positioning? I don't see how it affects being caught eating/drinkign at all. Either way the same amount of time passes and you have ample time to get ready.
|
Haha. Definitely didn't blow my mind but that is a good suggestion. I often see myself starring straight at the screen getting annoyed and dazed to when the game is going to start in order to get the best split/start as possible. With the 3,2,1 I would know what the game is going to start and be ready for it instead of being rattled if the game starts up all of a sudden.

because its there for a reason. it makes sure all clients are in sync

I would REALLY like this feature. :[
edit: This did not blow my mind because I've been dreaming of this since like my 2nd beta game T_T.

Maybe the 3, 2, 1 is part of the loading time.
Edit: Since it is before, it can be part of the load time. If it was after, it would be difficult to sync it perfectly to include the loading time. Sorry, this is hard to explain.

Definitely a incredibly simple idea that would make the starting game that much more convenient.
Alas my mind is still intact though , but like it none the less

@OP There is that second of lag (actual time varies form game to game) that always occurs when all all of the loading bars are complete but nothing is happening... the countdown would fix this problem at the start of the game, so I'm not sure why this hasn't been implemented yet.

mind was not blown, disappoint

Whether or not your mind was blown, OP has a legit point!
|
not blown but this is a great idea.

being able to chat during hte loading screen would be nice too.

I mean what's the point of 3 2 1 if the game won't even start after the 3 2 1?
I mean think about how people would commentate starcraft 2...
IN KOREAN:
AHHH GAME IS STARTING!!!
WE HAVE AWESOME GOSU 1 VS AWESOME GOSU 2!!!

GOSU 1 FIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah... they should do this... They should also make the cursor always start the center of the screen. (maybe it does and I'm doing something wrong... I will not refuse that possibility)
|
I thought of this every time it pauses an unreasonably long time during the loading screen. It's just such a tense moment where you need to concentrate that seems so easy to fix.
|
reminds me of watching gomtv
Tasteless: And we are going to start.... Lilsusie: NOW! ... Lilsusie: NOW! Tasteless: I guess they aren't quite ready. I don't know korean so i have no idea what's going on.

I totally agree with OP!! Load the game then have the countdown. Because having a countdown, followed by a random amount of time, followed by BAM your in the game, is completely retarded.
|
The reason for this is for custom games. That way they make certain you're in the game and ready and so on, and that all players are ready before the game starts. If you switched it, a lot of players would tab in too late. It should probably be an option or something.
|
A pre-game countdown after loading would be great. - When playing with quick match there is still a slight delay after the time it seems all players are at 100% and when the game starts. A 3 second countdown with an audible sound would help let you be focused and ready at the start of the match without having to just start at a motionless screen.
- When playing custom maps, many don't allow you to see your opponents loading bars (eg Nexus Wars). This is another occasion where a 3 second countdown with sound would be useful. (Note: This may not sound important to 1v1 players, but map makers in tournaments may eventually want to use custom for maps depending on the features they decide to include in maps, but even if they don't custom games make up and will always make up a very very large portion of players. So they can not be ignored).
- Most importantly. A 3-5 second countdown after load screen would allow commentators to sync their replays/vods when commentating together over vent/skype etc. Think back to the vast vast majority of VioleTaK vods. Whenever they are using vent they always use the countdown at the start of SC1 to get in sync with each other. Moletrap even used the countdown to get his own audio in sync with the video for most of his commentaries without a partner.

i'd suggest to start a poll, because i'd really want this feature.
