For years, the TLPD has been everyone's #1 source for Starcraft Progaming statistics. Starting today, it will be our go to source for SC2 stats as well. Thanks to the hard work of our resident TLPD wizard PoP and TLPD staff like p4ndemick, Jonvvv, Emlary, the SC2 TLPD is up and running on release day.
In fact, why don't you mosey on over to the right sidebar right now and check it out?
Sick, you say? Totally.
It's not there by magic though. It's all powered by hard work, and that's why we'd like to take a moment right now to remember the TLPD. They truly are the unsung heroes here on TL. While the rest of us are watching VODs and making posts, these guys are up in the bowels of the site, day after day, night after night, consistently carrying out a task that makes the lives of so many others that much easier.
Writers and translators aside, the TLPD is used by pretty much everyone on TL who has ever written, argued or theorycrafted about progaming. It is one of our most precious resources, and we want to use this space to say a massive Thank You! to PoP and his team who have kept this arm of TL running so smoothly for so many years.
Today, with the launch of SC2 TLPD, TL steps into an era in which we continue to sit at the very center of the Starcraft stats universe. Look below for a taste of what's to come.
The face of the beta.
Yup, that's Top 20 Beta Players ranking based on ELO. Although SC2 proper will necessitate a new ranking altogether, the functionality will essentially remain the same as we move into competitive play with the retail version. The players are all there, and the games they play and the titles they grab will all go towards their rating, and their rating will of course be used to rank them*. If you're feeling nostalgic though, you can always come back and check the beta ranking at any time. A worldwide SC2 ranking that auto updates - we don't know about you guys, but that makes us break out into a grin!
Of course, what kind of TLers would we be if we didn't go and check up on the home team. Turns out the lads haven't done too shabbily in the beta. Go Liquid! Ever wanted to know TLO's ELO? Here you go.
Liquid's combined ELO is really over 9000. 10450 to be exact.
Doing all this cool stuff, it's easy to forget that this is all just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. The real functionality of the TLPD lies deep within, and the only way to experience it is to have a go yourself. As you spend hours and hours in these tables, you will slowly begin to see the true potential that this feature of TL really unlocks for you.
Well, do we need to say more? Go ahead and dive right in. When you're done with your nerdery though (try sorting by different criteria - so cool!), be sure to jump back in here and give these guys a hearty thanks for what they've done here. TLPD team, you guys own!
Finally, a friendly note from PoP saying that he welcomes all bugs, suggestions and complaints in the TLPD feedback thread. Thanks for reading, TL, and enjoy this new tool. We know we're gonna be playing with it well into the night!
*TeamLiquid rankings take into account players who are banned from TL events such as the TSL for cheating/abuse and the TLPD will not display such players or their ELO on rankings until the ban period decided upon is completed. Their games however will go into the TLPD, because other players' rankings may be affected if they are removed.
Further, players with under 10 games have been removed from the ELO rankings for obvious reasons, and all players have had their local games (e.g - games played by Koreans vs Koreans in Korea) removed as well. We felt that games played for countries skewed rankings and gave players from bigger countries an unfair advantage at times.
It's kind of a stretch to say Lucifron is the best terran in the beta, but for people who only go by ELO, they will get the wrong impression. It's surprising qxc would be so low when he has been unquestionably the best terran foreigner.

Basically, people who think Huk is bad, are just wrong ;p

Really? I would give that to DeMuslim but that's just me... Maybe I'm uninformed about what Qxc has done, but Demu has won/done good in a lot of things.
TLPD is such a great thing - I really had to take a close look on the page to find where on the page I can access it though (without using the search or this topic). Mardow is in alternate by the way and his name is Sebastian Dutsch.

I could not agree more. Jinro for president!
Edit: I'm interested to see how this changes when the ITL is added. Will move QXC up a bit with his 7-1-1 record and HuK shoudl take the top spot with his 7-2 record. Also Sheth should have a nice jump in the ratings

lol I was wondering about that "gamin" thing. Hopefully that match HuK took off Tester ends up counting for him !
Gogo ITL! Will bring QXC up a bunch of slots and should put HuK in the #1 slot, although I'm not 100% sure how thier ELO system works so I could be wrong.
Yeah, I really hope Nony comes back. He was my favorite foreigner in the Broodwar days and I would love to cheer for him again in tournaments to come. I'd be interested in seeing a show match between him and TLO.

On July 27 2010 00:08 NuKedUFirst wrote: So how does this ELO work exactly? Win / lose in the ladder or tournaments? Tester being the only Korean so it must be by tournament stats?
ELO works by calculating the expected winrate between two players based on their current ELO using a mathematical formula (your initial rating is 2000). If you win you get K*("your expected losing rate") points, and if you lose you lose K*"(your expected win rate)" points, with K being a predetermined value that is the same for every game (I think this is 20 in the TLPD).
So for example if you have an ELO of 2200 and face an opponent with a rating of 2000, you are expected to with 76% of the time and lose 24% of the time. Thus, if you win you get 20*0.24 points and if you lose you lose 20*0.76 points.
As for what games are counted, only official international tournaments are counted. Ladder games obviously can't be, since that would be both abusable and next to impossible to keep track of, and country restricted tournaments are unfair for the overall ranking.
"all players have had their local games (e.g - games played by Koreans vs Koreans in Korea) removed as well. We felt that games played for countries skewed rankings and gave players from bigger countries an unfair advantage at times"
Don't agree with this and I don't see what's unfair about players from the strongest countries being ranked more highly for beating their compatriots. It's going to create a completely skewed and inaccurate ranking system if "local games" are ignored.
Wouldn't this method of ranking place someone like Idra above Flash if it were applied to BW, for example?

There will be a Korea exclusive branch of the TLPD as well though.
samples are pretty small, game is pretty new, things such as white-ra proxy gating every desert oasis game and beating some good zergs are still highly influential over these small samples. please don't make claims based on too small samples.

Hey Naz will the ITL be put it. I was told it would be several times and I went through and spent lots of hours getting the records as complete as possible here.

Can't see why it would not just curious.
Yes, I will add the ITL later Thanks for collecting the info!
As for the new sc2-international tlpd, we have yet to discuss which tournaments we are going to include.
Wrong. All wrong. Nony is either on top or it's wrong.
But... thank you! Been waiting for this! Will it have all the videos and games in an easy to find place? That would make pro SC2 easy for me to follow again because it was tough for me when I had little time and all of the tournaments were scattered around.
Wanted to give a shout out to TheFallofTroy as well who started working on the SC2 Beta TLPD about a month ago and has probably done more than me concerning the project as I've been fairly hands off on this one. Right now is a really exciting time as TLPD grows along with SC2, and we've been fortunate to have some great people step up to help carry the load.
For a couple players in there (Time and Murder) both of them are in Quantum Gaming. I dunno how you guys get information and what not or even how you add players .
Yeah, I think you're right. There's another way though. On the right on the Database thing, you can got to the drop down menu and change it, and than just immediately press search. It should lead you to the right place.
Lol when I first saw Tester wasn't on a team the first thing I did was search him up on the sidebar and was quite relieved it does say TSL for the team he is on ;D
So glad to see a TLPD for starcraft. The original TLPD was great, I especially loved the massive map database. Looking forward to seeing the same great stuff for SC2. Thanks to all whose hard work made this possible!
Hey so how do you get your clan in the TLDP? 2 people in my clan so far are on the TLDP and would be sweet if it said what clan they were in rather then unknown/retired
Wow I've been checking out the new TLPD, it is quite awesome. I've been wanting to find some more replays of Mouz.MaNa since I love his play style, now I know where to look!
With all the work that has clearly gone into it, I think it's worthy of a bump, no?

Jinro I remember in the beta HuK was on par wtih Orb, there was that one PvP
But now it seems like HuK is at whitera's level maybe even better than whitera himself.
HuK just does alot of smart stuff and he can squeeze every ounce outa his units. Hes legit 200apm-er. His probe harass is awesome. Everytime I try to copy him in my game, my buildings end up 20minerals late / probe / chrono late. (1250d).

I believe he lives in the LA area currently though, I know Day[9] has talked about hanging out with QXC before, and I believe he was at the day[9] launch party too.
Ironically I was also surprised to find out that KiwiKaki was Canadian too, for some reason I always assumed that he was American. Must just be my American arrogance
I wonder how the TLPD guys went about collecting all of the player information, must have been a nightmare?
